Though I have an idea. @Blackout do we have rope with us? On the chance that we encounter there something that we want to carry, but is too much for just us to take, we could conjure some Ghur elementals and tie it to them while giving them the command: "Follow me" so they take it with them.
Do we really want to take anything we find in a Chaos corrupted location? Especially after what happened last time with the shield, or the time before with the plaques? Are we really going three for three with this?

Taking the shield was actually good and important, if risky, as that thing needed to be destroyed. Now, that's not to say it is a correct choice here, that really depends, but it's not something we should use as an example of 'never do this'.

Did we really want for the shield to stay in Norsca so that the next Chaos Champion could pick it up? We don't actually know what's causing the compass to spin, so I was just imaging a situations in which the cause might be something we don't want the Beastmen keeping.

It didn't need to be destroyed, in fact it's probably being in use right now, rather it was taken by that vile Vaul priest and I will have my revenge!

We took the shield for safekeeping, so that no Chaos-aligned person will find and use it again. It was always agreed, that it shall be taken to a Priest of Vaul for destruction or reconsecration. We got unlucky and lost the rights to the shield, but we remember that slight and hope to avenge it one day.

[X] Write-in - Bring the Swordmasters, and you may be able to deal with the threat here and now.
-[X] Scout ahead of the Swordmasters invisibly and soundlessly to ensure that the path is unwatched (or to deal with any such watchers), as well as to get a sense of the cause of the magic and its defences before the Swordmasters arrive so that, if necessary, you can order a withdrawal with the aid of The Wilds Undisturbed before they catch the attention of anything that might be present there.
--[X] Use The Wilds Undisturbed on the Swordmasters on the way, too, if it's possible to avoid creating Dhar by casting it on them but not yourself.
-[X] Leave the Sea Guard behind (and Eöl with them). They won't be as suited to the thick woods as the Swordmasters, nor as familiar with Chaos' hidden enclaves and what it takes to root them out, and a group of ten will hopefully be quicker and quieter than a group of thirty.

We are also compelled to learn what is going on. We are not compelled to actually solve it here and now.
This is the point I think Fanriel would use to rationalize her poorly-made decision to everybody else. We know there's a beastmen caster in them there woods, that it's pretty close, and that it could be a problem. Fanriel is the best equipped individual to chase down that lead and report back, if only because being sufficiently educated with Windsight is an auto-success at sniffing out what magical beings doing actively magical things are up to.

If it's a beastmen fighting Orcs, we can safely ignore it. If it's a beastman shaman using Ghur to hide a force from the Orcs to ambush Elector Count's forces later on, that's actionable intelligence that's worth our time. If it's a beastman shaman trying to open up the beast-paths for a force to come through... well, that's a worst case scenario, but we can probably teleport in and decapitate the shaman without too much risk, unless it has Marked or minotaur bodyguards.

[X] Go alone, you can slip in and out invisible and soundless with minimal risk.

I'm not sure it's a caster. What we know about what's there is that it's aligned with Chaos, and has enough magic to make the Silver Compass point towards it rather then to the Lightfangs, despite having all of our magical equipment and Fanriel herself here, so a considerable enough amount of magic to outweigh those. That makes me think we might be dealing with a herdstone, or perhapps even some sort of warpstone meteor.

@Blackout do we know if during the last Geheimnisnact there was some sort of meteor shower in the area?

You know come to think of it this campaign is centered about fighting Beastmen and Greenskins, but the Forest of Shadows is also Melkhior's stomping grounds isn't it? Perhaps we'll get to see that Dark Curiousity roll about whether to study from a vampire after all, seeing as we're traveling in the homebase of the world's foremost vampire mage and his coven.

We're out of the Forest of Shadows- the narrative specifically talked about Fanriel traveling into and then out of it.

We're up in the Middle Mountains, and Melkhior doesn't seem to leave his Tower much at all.

He's probably busy training Zacharias anyway.

Well, it seems like the vote is quite well-defined this time. It seems that Loremaster Fanriel will go to the whisky cabinet curious exploration of nearby darkness all aloneo_O
Between Ulgu and various assorted magic, she should be able to exfiltrate... At worst we take a trip through ChaosRealm, like earlier.
*Flashback of Scorpion pulling Bi-Han/Subzero in the Netherrealm, in the previous Mortal Kombat

It isn't too bad. Even if the worst case scenario happens and we end up in the realm of chaos given how time flows there we might get to at least have a touching reunion with uncle Malekith while we're at it.
