Anyway, am I missing something, or do most (all?) designs appear to not actually use any of the advanced technologies we've unlocked. The same research action that upgrades our mechanical unit also gives us full directional ion shields, but unless I'm misreading something, none of the designs appear to use them.

Similarly, we unlocked widespread augmetic production, but none of our proposed vehicles appear to take advantage of that either.

Widespread Augmetic Production
Sometimes, it is not wise to keep treating a person's flesh. Sometimes, removing a limb that cannot be saved or replacing one organ with another is necessary. Many times, the person in question does not have the time or wealth to wait for a replacement. No longer. With the continued investments of the Federation into its medical production capabilities, replacements for fallible and malleable flesh have begun to see a renaissance amongst its populations, millions now enjoying lives that had been forced into wheelchairs and beds, organs of metals pumping and filtering where flesh failed, limbs of striding iron power step after step. Nerves are steadied with electronic calculation from implants correcting what bodies cannot, and spines, once fractured, are whole again, as eyes see where no light could grace their blind gazes. Sight, smell, touch, hearing, holding, all are returned to those who had lost or never had those in the first place, with tears shed upon the simple pleasure of a step taken freely again, happening again and again for hundreds of thousands everywhere. Though for all that it is a breath of relief for the wounded and maimed, none can deny that a mechanical body that never tires does not have benefits in warfare, and it is not like volunteers are lacking...
(Widespread Augmetics improves civilians' livelihoods and the effectiveness of your SAGs and Navy while reducing casualties. Unlocks [Augmetic Legion]s for Recruitment.)

All in all, it all feels very generic and not really taking advantage of the wide open vote we have before us right now. Sure, we should maybe not cover every single vehicle in Ion shielding, but why not make the accountants cry, a little?

This is basically the standard issue Squad Battle Bus for a mechanized doctrine. The more advanced you get, the fewer we can build. If we can't build enough for a full mechanized formation, then it's a failure even if it's an absolute unit of a design.

Also, Aside from Ion shields, Not exacly sure what advanced tech we have to actually put on these things, aside from being build and designed to a higher standard then the chimera. All of our research has been into ship stuff, So we are still packing tempestus scion-chique, So our updated vehicles, End up equipted pretty similarly to imperial guard vehicles, just build for feeding an army of maybe half a million instead of trillions.

Aside from ion shields noted to be pricey, even the Directional variants, Our options for Stuff to put on ground vehicles is incredibly limited compared to our navy. We could Try to invent new gear whole cloth to put on the vehicles, but If the morrigan was any indication, even if it works it will probably end up finnicky and rare, which is not something we want for an APC, or the most numerous part of our ground forces.

If we want better guns and stuff to put on our ground stuff, we probably need to take either infantry arms and armour and then use that to scale it up, Unlock some form of plasma weapon research, Go pick a fight with more advanced people then the imperial guard or chaos, Or do the Missile research and hope that whatever element is apparently upgrading our ship missiles can be pair down enough to go from kilometer long behemoths to a non-superheavy, Non-titan ground vehicle.

Basically, We have Imperial guard/tempestus scion tech, and aside from Ion shields haven't really research anything to go beyond that, So we are relying on just making a good, well constructed product that the imperium could never afford to provide to its trillion strong standing army.

EDIT: Get fucked chaos, They are now contested everywhere except yivv. On the other hand? That a lot of Bodies, and blood to try and do a ritual with. if we are lucky, they will leave the khornates behind and start a fighting retreat back to Yivv, And then use a ritual to escape like the cowards chaos are. We are not lucky, So I doubt that. Need to start actually clearing these contested systems before chaos does something fucky.

  • [X] Ranger Infantry Fighting Vehicle
[X] Gremlin Light Infiltration Vehicle (LIV)
    [X]N3 Klajiyos IFV
    [X] Demigryph type Tracked IFV
    [X] Magnadon Heavy APC
    [X]Valkyrie SPG
    [X]Bonehead Superheavy Assault Transport.
    [X] Sharpuktu Reconnaissance Hover Vehicle
-[X] While the Salamander has served us well, as a reconnaissance vehicle it is somewhat lacking in mobility compared to what we could design. This is where the Sharpuktu comes in as fast and maneuverable hover vehicle that's able to be airdropped onto the battlefield and capable of getting over obstacles with hoverjets and even able to "boost" its engines for increased speed, but both features are not able to sustain use for long and will overheat through prolonged use. It's armed with a light, fast-firing battle cannon (albeit only capable of moving vertically) and missile launchers. It is intended to carry high-value personnel whether it be field commanders or an elite strike team or recon squad with a carrying capacity of 6 people.
    [X]N3 Klajiyos IFV
    -[X]Crew: 3 (Commander, Gunner, Driver)
    -[X]Armament: 1 Autocannon or 1 Multi-Laser, 2 Missile Pods or Grenade-Launcher Pods)
    -[X]Propulsion: Front wheels, Rear tracks
    -[X]Troop Compartment: 8-troop squad
-[X]Special Equipment: Motivational posters present in Ogryn regiments
-[X]Description: The N3 Klajiyos IFV is the next-generation of infantry fighting vehicle purposefully designed for the Federation, by the Federation. Setting itself from the age-old Chinera is the Klajiyos' half-track design; a return to an old design now made logistically feasible once again thanks to large improvements in alloying, automation, among others. These recent improvements place the Klajiyos on par with the Chimera in terms of cost and maintenance, while allowing it superior maneuverability, ease of use, and greater survivability.
    [X]K6 Grom APC
-[X]Crew: 2 (Commander, Driver) Standard; 4 (Commander, Driver, Gunner, Engineer) Flamer Variant; 4 (Commander, Driver, 2 Medics) Medical Evac Variant; 3 (Driver, Gunner, Vox Operator) Command Variant
-[X]Armament: Pintle-mounted Heavy Bolter Standard; Dual-Heavy Flamer on Flamer Variant
    -[X]Propulsion: Tracks
-[X]Troop Compartment: 16 infantry plus equipment
-[X]Special Equipment: Troops compartment replaced with fuel storage in Flamer Variant; Seats and equipment racks replaced with stretcher mounts and medical equipment in Medical Evac Variant; Vox, auspex, and other equipment deemed necessary in Command Variant; Motivational posters present in Ogryn regiments
-[X]Description: The K3 Grom APC is the purpose-built mass troop transport for the Federation's mechanized infantry. While the tanks and IFVs punch through the enemy's defenses, the Grom follows through with reinforcements and supplies to keep the advance moving. Similar to the Chimera, the Grom's modular design allows for variation in its role. Some variants already approved include a designated Medical Evac variant, a Command Variant, and even a Heavy Flamer variant that sacrifices transport capability for additional firepower on the frontline. Utilizing advances in the Federation's heavy and military industries, the Grom has been proven to have increased survivability and speed with decreased cost and maintenance compared to the Chimera.
    [X]K6 Grom APC
    [X] Sharpuktu Reconnaissance Hover Vehicle

Winning Vehicles
IFV = Ranger Infantry Fighting Vehicle
LIV/Scout = Gremlin Light Infiltration Vehicle
APC = N3 Klajiyos and Magnadon (Exeutive Decision Time here, both get built as the Klajiyos and Magnadon both fill the same role, even if the first hasn't been declared an APC but is built to fulfill that role.)
SPG = ...why is there tank artillery in my Mechanized Force?

Anyone against my ruling on who won?

Hah, Your the GM, I was staring at it trying to guess how you would parce that lol

Also, I suggested the SPG for the mechanized force because mechanized groups have a bad habit of outrunning their artillery support, leaving them unprotetced by counter battery, Unable to deal with fortification, and all around in a dangerous spot if theydon't turn around. The SPG is their to be attached to a mechanized unit, ensuring that even if they do outrun the majority of the artilery support, They can't outrun ALL of it, leaving them with some form of mortar support even if they end up outrunning their backline support.

Besides, sometimes you need a fire mission now, not however long it takes for it to go through the chain and get back to you, so organically attached Artillery is something I have a softspot for.

It's funny from the perspective of "Someone in the design teams did a funni and managed to slide in a pet project for an unrelated contest"

TBH though, I'm pretty happy with the Ranger, and I think it managed to toe the line between a major effect gain for our doctrine without breaking our budget to mass produce them. The only real parts difference it has from a Chimera variant (Aside from form-factor of course) is the hover functionality, just about everything else it has are replicated in other parts of our force, and scaling that up shouldn't cost a fortune.

I'm looking forward to seeing how the hell the Mashan manage to pop off so much. The only system that Chaos has full control over in subsector 621 is Yivv. Everything else is contested by us or the Mashan

I admit to being worried about the Hover, The only imperial vehicles that use hover tech are space marine grade, Both Pre-Heresy and Post primaris, That IMO doesn't say good things to me about their cost or the complexity of of the systems.

So since we don't actually have That grav tech to copy, We are either Try to scale it up without a research action from Grav-chute tech, Or we are using Air cushions, which is an absolutely Horrid idea.

Oh well,I could be worried for nothing, If the Ranger's hover systems are a white whale, It should be possible to add tracks, Or Turn the Magnadon Into a proper IFV.

The only military vehicles the Imperium uses. They've got lots of civilian hover craft all over the place, so the technology itself isn't prohibitively expensive.

I would also point out that the Imperium does a lot of suboptimal shit for the sake of making sure nobody is self-sufficient. Case in point, "Better to load macrocannons with chain gangs than actually design a halfway decent autoloader because we're willing to accept the effectiveness and manpower costs in order to ensure that a mutiny needs to secure an entire deck before it can turn that gun on someone else.

The real bottleneck with grav vehicles in the Imperium is that the Mechanicus think it crosses the line of what laymen are allowed to use, so they reserve it for their own use or for the use of those who can afford the neccesary favor trading to justify their time on it. The Imperial Guard does not meet that standard.

LIV/Scout = Gremlin Light Infiltration Vehicle
Actually, the Gremlin and the Sharkpuktu are meant to fulfill different roles is seems like. The Gremlin sounds like it's meant to be behind enemy lines for infiltration missions while Sharkpuktu is meant to be more of a forward scout and command vehicle, if that makes any sense.

So, maybe the Gremlin for our infiltrators and the Sharkpuktu for elite recon?

603.M42 - Onto Local News
As always, the streets of Benata were busy with the clamor and shouts of people, vehicles, temples, industry, and construction.

Here, merchants and farmers tried to sell their produce on the local markets, the stalls and streets packed with people rushing to and from work, out on a leisurely stroll with families, or shopping for groceries, clothing, luxury items like electronics, jewelry, brands, or local fads, with stores dedicated to specialist scenes or niches like books, pen-and-paper games, or miniature models not uncommon.

There, the streets were packed with ground cars, busses, bikes, both common and their dirtbike variants, and even a vehicle of the local PDF trundling here and there on occasion. Large trucks and vans carried produce and products from the factories and the farms to their destinations, be they stores, warehouses, other factories, or even the spaceport outside the city within an artificial small-rimmed crater to reduce noise and improve its defensibility.

The temples of the Star Child are havens of silent contemplation, the scent of holy incense embedded into the very stones of the structures as lights play and shimmer across the artworks within and without. Students of both mundane universities and the holy clergies meet within the parks surrounding many of the structures where space is available for relaxation and debate, a hundred minds working with or against each other on topics as mundane as a new musical style or a mural being drawn by a dozen priests debating amongst themselves regarding color theory and why they should or shouldn't use red in a scene to depict health.

The noise of industry is ever-present within the city's manufacturing districts despite the numerous measures taken to reduce the noise. Within the halls of industry, the roar of smelters, the buzz of vehicles moving pallets and materials, the banging and clamor of giant presses and hammers forging metals into form, and the hiss and bubbling of chemicals and plastics vie for attention from the shifts of workers marching unto the treadmill of progress, product after product completed, packed, set for delivery, and driven off for local consumption or off-world sale.

Construction, ever the bane of the commuter and those living near it, occurs at all times of day and some even at night, highrises sprouting from the ground and reach into the sky alongside roads and theaters, parks stand barren and empty of foliage one day and bloom with flowers and life the following year, with bunkers public and for the PDF claw deep and deeper into the soil at the perfect intervals to defend the people and allow them the chance to evacuate in long-divined patterns of mathematical efficiency. In some years, a shimmer can be seen in the sky for a few hours or a day as the shields of the city are tested for faults and defects, or another portion has their shield installed as the walls surrounding the districts and outer-most parts of Benata are joined by another proud sibling standing tall and sturdy with its palisades of anti-air and anti-armor weapons bristling in patterns derived from calculations most beneficial to their sections defense.

Life continues and bustles in this world that would have once never seen technology above a wooden crane in the hands of the people; with the same now carrying on regardless, no thought is spared to such a reality...because that was not their reality. "Before we go onto local news," a well-groomed young man on a large public screen on one of the highrises bordering the plaza said, his suit cut in the local fashion with a dash of red mixed into the otherwise grey fabric. "The local PDF is currently seeking a Human Techpriest and Kil'drabi Engineer for stealing a new weapon prototype for our Karnivores, the large weapon around 7 meters long and plasma-based in nature. Both thieves are suspected to be on a ketamine-derived narcotic and are not to be approached. If you see them or suspect one of the two nearby, please leave the area immediately and call the local PDF to contain and handle the issue." Several people paused at that, the image of a Kil'drabi and Techpriest high on drugs amusing to more than one of them. None noticed the human and Kil'drabi duo at the end of the plaza carrying a long beam wrapped in a bright pink plastic wrap. "Onto the local news; the Winged Wreckers have scored 17 to 9 against the Starborn Trackers, moving up in the local bracket by 2 points, securing their entry into the regional plays..."

So I think for our Karnivores we should stick to medium to short range. I don't think the machine spirit of a melee only machine is going to react nicely to a sniping weapon.

Seconded, Gremlin is great in its role but having a hover IFV/APC and a wheeled scout for them? Horrible idea. Not to mention that if you had to pick one vehicle in your fleet to be a hovercraft, it should be the scout.

Edit: I sure hope that we are getting hover logistics and engineeting vehicles with those.

Also, Aside from Ion shields, Not exacly sure what advanced tech we have to actually put on these things
We have Admech level tech up to and including SM gear. We have a massive pile of stuff that Imperial Guard can not afford but we can. This, we are not short on.

Yeah, keep in mind that our troops are outfitted with Semi-powered Carapace Armor and Hotshot Lasguns that can be used as an emergency Melta Gun in a pinch. And this is our standard equipment, who knows what kind of shit elite units have.

I have an idea about a triple barrel or double barrel Lascannon that can fire in either Charged,Auto, Single, Pulse(Burst basically), and Beam.

The idea here is that it's like the weapon of our human infantry but upscaled to be better and to act as versatile weapon for our Knights .
I'll put on "5 Star Light" as it's placeholder name cus I suck at naming lol .

The Karnivore itself is already perfect for CQC, So we don't need to cover that niche.

4 weapons should probably include some form of Anti-horde weapon like a super charged Flamer, A medium/long range AT weapon like the example plasma lance,, Probably an all arounder Medium/Long range weapon like a Shrunken Battle cannon.

Equipment.. Hmm, Armigers have Ion shields as standard, A second ion shield in a gauntlet is interesting but eh.
Equipment could include replacing the havoc launcher on some models with a brace of Hunter killer missiles to render it a better superheavy/vehicle killer. Not very many ideas aside from that.

Heavy Plasma Cannon Lance
- The results of a Ketamine Driven rampage of size, The Heavy Plasma Lance Is grafted straight into one arm of the armiger, replacing it whole sale, With a Stabilizing rail mounted On top that Is typically Held say the armigers other arm, Stabilizing the large cannon. Designed to Rival the Plasma Cannon of the leman russ executioner, The Heavy Plasma Lance is a devastating wepon when used, Even without overcharging it.
Designed to emulate the Plasma devastator, The Heavy Plasma Lance is capable of creating devastating Anti-armoured blasts, Cutting even into the most heaviest vehicle armour. During melee, One can typically see an armiger equipped with the plasma lance using the heavily reinforced Barrel arm like a club, Mixing Devestating smashing attacks with swiftgrapples and punches should one forget that the secondary arm is not attached to the Plasma Lance.

Decied to lore out the example

Karnivors should be melee monsters, think lowercase knights, so a melee weapon, a shield, and a short to mid ranged weapon I think. That shield gauntlet looks good.

Dunno about the ranged weapon. Does Karnivore have something to shoot at infantry with? Can it even be threatened by infantry?

Keep in mind that Karnivores are linebreakers and should be followed by legged tanks into the breech.
