Green Flame Rising (Exalted vs Dresden Files)

The main moral point of Dresden Files is exactly that being a good person in that world is hard and unfair, especially the more powerful you become and the more responsibilities you get.

That's why most powerful people in Dresden Files are not good people.

That's why it's not boring being as overpowered as an Exalted. Because you need all that "fuck the rules and destiny!" power to try to be good without also being some sort of martyr.

Yes, but none of this changes this specific case, how keeping people (who you have no moral right to detain, just to protect your secrets) from trying to save their families, without trying to do something about it yourself, is not just merely not being good... it seems pretty line-crossingly evil.

There's a difference between not going out of your way to actively save someone, and refusing to save someone, who is in more danger as a direct result of your arguably immoral decision (like imprisoning innocent people resulting in them not being able to try to save said someone).

She could reason herself into thinking why that's a necessary decision in the long term, but that sort of utilitarian rationalization is exactly how powerful, originally well-meaning, people get corrupted.
Eh there are very powerful figures out there who are good their just also limited and uh not causing shit cause their good. Funny thing Mab and Hades are about as powerful as each other but that means fuck all since Hades can barely interact with the world.

@DragonParadox do I understand correctly that there's no immediate urgency in rescuing the family members of the people we saved?

Anyway,
[X] Plan family first
-[X] Talk to Daniel about his... well you hesitate to say plans
-[X] Catch up with Lydia
-[X] Negotiate fealty with Porter
-[X] Call Monoc Securities and negotiate an extraction operation of some mortals from Red Court territory

The way these folk, each in their own way a master of their craft heed your every word with quiet courtesy is in some ways more eerie than the cheers of the crowds or the way guests and servants alike bow to you in the corridors. Just last month you handed Harry a sword and paid him to research it, now you have thousands of bright mind at your disposal in any field of study... and you technically aren't paying them anything which feels awkward as heck.
Did Molly mention that she already has a way to manage it and that she is just hoping that they find an easier way?

As far as Molly can tell no, they are worried about Arianna's threats, but Arianna is dead. To people who did not get terrorized into subservience with those kinds of mind games it seems clear that whoever takes over her affairs, which will probably take a while on its own, will barely know one new human from another, much less look for the former mistress' little book of murder.

That said if you want to pick up the phone right now you can. Hell if you want to go and rescue them yourselves right now you can, though that will make problems as school.

Did Molly mention that she already has a way to manage it and that she is just hoping that they find an easier way?

She mentioned that she can deal with the Hunger, but they still need human blood which is not ideal and vampire spit is super addictive which is even less so

I was talking about how she should be able to exocise half reds. I figured she just wants an easier method that doesn't take her personal attention an hour and 5 essanse.

"We achieve 99.9999% fidelity in reproducing the currency."

Twenty hundred dollar bills shoot out into your hands, as far as you are able to tell identical such that to your inexpert eye at least the original was hidden.

Well, we already had discussions on how winning the lottery wasn't worth it, but now it's even less, we can literally print money if we really need to, doing it too much brings attention, but still.

The write in was @Goldfish 's, not mine.
Ah. My apologies.
The fellowship is just as able to make deals with dark powers as anyone else.
[X]Goldfish
If the Fellowship had the resources to make deals with dark powers of that tier, they would be a major power, and not an insurgency. This was something the White Council would have been hard pressed to pull off in the middle of Mexico.

Seems a little unfair considering it's a 3 dot charm for us and costs an essanse to activate.
Meantime we had the option to gain flight at E1.
We dont really have any room to complain; everyone else needs the leg up to compete.

That's not fair.

It seems like a simple task this time around but like Goldfish said earlier, it could prove problematic down the line if we make a habit of rescuing people by bringing them to the FC, showing them stuff we can't afford them spilling, then going out of our way to get their families too.

This time it will only be two families how many next time? The time after that? It could become a legitimate problem in the short term.
Its not really a longterm issue.
By this time next year IC, Molly will have enough in the way of minions on Earth to handle most of this processing for her, and the financial resources to do so.

With specific regards to people fleeing from Spanish-speaking Latin America, the obvious destination, and a place where they get preferred immigration status, is Spain. For Brazilians, it's Portugal.
We just need to double check and actually set up the groundwork and support infrastructure for that sort of thing.

Hold them off Earth for a year or three until the hunt for them has died down, then relocate them with a new face.

More broadly? This was always going to happen.
What do you think Molly is going to do with knowing human collaborators, people who hurt others for money or favors and could still do so? She isnt going to shoot them outright the way the Fellowship might, but neither is she going to leave them to do more harm.

Indefinite confinement in our Hell has always been on the table for that category of enemy.
I know it was pointed out back when the Hell design discussions were being made.

COMMENTARY
I didnt even consider counterfeiting as an option. Huh.
Lol Molly too dumb to talk to her bankers. Yeah, a bunch of minimum competencies we need to spend time on so we're not just rolling an Intelligence dice pool.

One of the reasons to prioritize building an interdimensional phone: Being able to call or text your loved ones and tell them that you are alright. Not that Charity is going to unclench until Molly walks in the door, but I presume Leech/Wraith got a message from Clippy when Molly was secure.

Its always nice to surprise your QM :)
Im not entirely sold on our ability to alter Seeker's behavior, but it seems logical IC after that conversation that Molly had with Uriel; that one never has one goal when he does something, and it fits his characterization, and how it would affect Molly's thinking.

Besides, if we can pull it off, it would be a huge feather in our cap.
A reputation-making incident, if in a different manner than from shanking a heavy hitter.
Im game to try. Carefully.

I would very much rather work with the fellowship on this one. Seems like the best way to build up credibility with them.

[X] Catch up with Lydia

A lot has happened on our end since we last saw her.
Time to catch up, in detail that we werent able to talk about on the phone.
One thing at a time.

Im personally looking forward to Molly talking to Lydia while the news mentions a missing plane in Mexico.

As has been pointed out, there's no hurry IC with the families.
A Court that is looking to its defenses and investigating deaths has no time or inclination to torture random humans.

So we can take the time to have the Brass Court's intelligence agencies interrogate the people about their families and get us a proper dossier (identikit mockups of their face, names, places of work etc)
We can either hand that off to Monoc, or go looking ourselves.

I would preferably not work with the Fellowship on this. We dont have a relationship yet.
And I would prefer to not owe a favor yet.
The counterfeiting thought was literally: 'OK so how can Molly make money with what she has given the carry limits? Wait... make money.'
Time to give the Department of the Treasury and the Library of Congress simultaneous heart attacks.

In response you take out Arianna Ortega's head and set it spinning in the air like it's a mannequin's head on one of those fancy lit up displays.
Bob to Harry, later: "Oh my god, that's so cute! She's like a cat, bringing her human the prey she caught!"
Lost 1 Essence -> Now at 14/15 (MHM)
That's so petty, noting the mote cost though it literally doesn't matter. You made me laugh out loud :D
Again the way to dealt with Broken Seeker kind of surprised me.
Surprised you how?

Just like in real life, but with magic on top to make the stakes even higher!

Pretty easy to fall into a 'Hard Men making Hard Choices' mindset, yeah.

How did Harry come under the impression that it was after us and not him? I feel sure we brought it up before.
I quote:
From afar one might mistake the figure standing alone under the fierce eye at the sun at midday for a princess of elder days, long before the Spanish first sailed up the Rio Grande or the Colorado, before ships had even come from the east over the sea. Her face and features were not foreign to these lands and if her buckskin shift was adorned with more gold than the harsh scrubland was likely to see, well that could be accounted by a traveller from the great empires of the south.

And it was all of it a lie of which the fathomless black of her eyes spoke clearly. The stranger had not been a woman, had not been human for many a long year, for Arianna Ortega was the daughter of the Red King himself who could ward off the fiercest and most terrible light in the shadow of her own flesh mask.

Alone she stood before a cairn, not a burial mound, not a temple though mortal archaeologists had mistaken it for both through the years. The scorching heat of the sun at its zenith which shapes this barren land as the smith's hammer does molten metal does not warm the stones. For all the long shadows it casts not snake nor scorpion nor small desert rodent seeks its shade for it is poison to things great and small. Thence arose voice at once high and shrill, low and booming speaks from within and though it speaks no tongue you know it is as clear to these ears as plain English: "Speak quickly Blood Whore, I have hunted your kind before, we share foes not loves."

The vampire laughs, as though the threat, or the notion that the tainted spirit had loves was the funniest thing it had heart all year, to be fair it might have been. "I offer you a chance to escape the bonds of your masters' parting curse Messenger, to devour a thing beyond them and upon thy throne unmoving to ascend..."

"You offer empty flattery!" the voice from the mound booms as something part serpentine, part leonine and part cephalopod starts to writhe out of the stones before it wraps around itself in a vaguely humanoid form. "Blood and Bone, soul and mind, these things I take as tribute, not in the form of your enemies loose in the world, but bound before me. Do you have this thing beyond my once-masters?"

There is silence but for the whisper of the wind and for a moment it seems as though the blood priestess' pride would overmaster her, but she smooths out the signs of anger upon her false face, speaking again in dulcet coaxing tones: "We have then for we are at war with the wizards of the white and not all whom we take are fit to join the dance macabre. There is another wizard we wish you to harry and to hunt... "
I think it was pretty explicit that its initial plan was to throw Seeker at Molly.
Which was confirmed by Arianna's first words when we entered the plane.

He does not know Broken Seeker was asked to deal with you, but he does know the Skinwalker is interested in Molly
Really?
We didnt tell him about the Crown vision where Ariana tries to use Molly/Molly's Exaltation to pay for a hit on Dresden?
Huh.

Still looking forward to Molly and Lydia having a conversation with the news report in the background of an ongoing search for a missing Mexican airliner.

Molly did not tell him that bit because if she had Harry would just feel more guilty for being used like that. It is irrational, but that is how Harry works.

People, please, even if you don't want to do everything (and we rather need to do everything at some point), please at least check up on Daniel. We have been given several warnings about him already. We are nearly there in terms of having what we need to at least make him do his questing in a survivable manner.

Also, why is my observation about cocaine getting funny reactions? I was serious there. If we are making super-fakes, not being drug-contaminated could be a tell.

The more we avoid him the higher chances he goes on high octane death riddled adventure.

Well said. The goal should be, to be the exception.

Thats what I said.

Now that I think about it aren't we planning on redeeming Emma'O who is way older and set in his ways? BS could be a trial run for that guy.

@DragonParadox Did Molly bring back the AI-Ball she brought to Earth and hooked up to the internet?
