Green Flame Rising (Exalted vs Dresden Files)

Various DoTs aren't really very good against Molly for the same reason as being lit on fire isn't very dangerous. One lethal damage per round is a grave threat to a mortal. Not so much for Molly. Especially since she has that innate "Exalts soak poison at reduced difficulty."

Supernatural poisons might be a little bit more dangerous, but IIRC, metal-melting blood-based vamp poisons from Vampire are like, two points of lethal per turn. That's not really great.
I dont have my book at hand.
Nevertheless, note that poisons dont have to be Lethal to be gamechanging.
Rampire venom in this setting applies a status debuff instead of killing you, for example. Food for thought.

Gotta go.

I am absolutely sure someone gave a quote of this in this thread, can't remember who and searching is hellish on phone.

Might've been @Yog ?
Not me. It was @Valkhir I believe, here. They used the quote from Uinverse Emperor Shintai as the source:
Theion woke far from his brethren, brushing against the infinitude of Time Not to gaze on the 10,000 kingdoms he might rule. The formless rebels of Chaos laughed at him, a foolish monster seeking a place that could house his impossible majesty, but they screeched in voiceless terror at what he did next. From all his would-be dominions, the Empyreal Chaos drew forth the skeleton of the universe and shattered it, fashioning it into the fiery tines of his crown, lighting the flame of his righteousness and forging a realm greater than any imagined by others.
Surviving that long requires enough power to be fuckscary enough to see off a diverse group of threats , through times when violence was a lot more casual than it is now.
It doesn't. It requires skills and powers to ensure one's survival. Stealth, being able to run enough, social skills to prevent offense, etc, are all viable strategies.

Still resist the effects at reduced difficulty, but fairnuff.

Anyway, on a note less relevant, here is a small blast from the past.

Exalted 2E: The Vydia Game. If anyone wants to look at how various mechanics worked back then, this is the thing. Also a peek at how overcomplicated combat was back then.

Goddamn 2E was a mess.

And you call this situation stacked in our favor.
Read what i said again. Its a fight where everything is not stacked in our favour.
She's not the meanest motherfucker in the valley yet. Behaving like she is might well prove an expensive and painful mistake.

Thats fine, sometimes you have to take a risk to do the right thing, you can't always be certian of victory.

This is not to minimize what Whampires are.
What are you arguing against. Then being commin doesn't make the actions they are doinb are okay. The obfuscation comment was in regard to the quibbling over the defnition of human trafficking, not the vampires defnition.

1)No, thats untrue.
That was untrue as far back as Grave Peril. Where Rampires attempt to jump Michael in Bianca's mansion.
When the Nightmare went after Michael's wife.
But that just proves my point, they didn't go looking for those fights but instead reacted, and that was just Michal. The white didn't attack them so they don't attack them, its nothing to do with morality at all.

And I am not twisting your worlds, you were trying to use micheal as a mesuring stick of morality, but their inaction has nothing to do with morality but the orders they are given.

That was a fun little tutorial that only took a few hours (More like one and half) to see the basics and damn I'm happy to play the simpler rules here.

Arc 5 Post 21: Deeper Darkness
Deeper Darkness

8th of September 2006 A.D.

Pushing down the instinct to just lay everything on the table and then read the social tea leaves you decide to go with a more moderate approach, after all what you do know about Agent Greene is not entirely flattering. "My name is Molly Carpenter, I am a friend of Harry Dresden's..."

"How old are you?" she cuts you off, the word 'kid' unspoken but heard just the same.

You sigh. "Seventeen, I'm also a Cancer, Type B Negative and naturally blonde. All of that has about as much to do with the reason I am here as my age. Look, I don't know you or how much you know, but I was going to finish that sentence with 'the wizard' and it's not because I make a habit of watching silly daytime television. I want because Harry was framed, but not by any ordinary means. I need help, if you know enough to give it..." You shake your head, the self-conscious gesture as complete as it is calculating. "Now I sound like Dollar Store Morpheus, but there are things I can't tell you unless you know, secrets that would be dangerous to both of us."

Look too in control and she'll think I'm a threat, look too out of my depth and she'll think I'm a liability. So I need to land right in the middle... an asset.

"Yeah..." Slowly, almost reluctantly, as though she has just had an argument with herself and barely come out ahead Agent Greene nods. "I do know what you mean Ms Carpenter." That last part is not said in the tone of a teacher doing roll-call, impressing formality upon the moment to get a hand up, it's more the neutral politeness you would imagine she uses in her job to talk to witnesses.

The glass of sparkling water she hands you enforces the impression, although perhaps she feels that she does better with a glass in hand herself, some place neutral to put your hands.

For your part you mostly go over parts of your story that are official record, like being at Harry's when Wright made the arrest and thinking something was fishy and the security footage from Menominee being the thing that got him off, though eventually you 'reluctantly' admit to having seen the video of her husband's dismemberment at the warehouse and explain that this is what had moved you to action.

"That thing is still out there whatever it is and no one can really catch it. What are they going to do put a shapeshifter on trial? I... know more than a bit about things that can pretend to be human but aren't and that looked like one of the worst, it was playing for the camera, in addition to its broader purpose it wanted reveled in the terror of its actions would breed through the eye of the camera. Not that there aren't... vampires. Do you know about vampires?"

Agent Greene nods tightly, as though she cannot quite trust herself to speak.

"Vampires that feed on fear need to be present to do so, same with dark spirits and fey. For something to gleefully cause terror more broadly it would have to be a wrecker not just a parasite." With utmost care you choose the words to appeal to someone with an axe to grind against the White Court

She takes a sip of water then... "If you do something long enough the mind finds a a way to accept it, embrace it Ms Carpenter. Happens to victims, happens to perps. Just how the human animal is put together and most of that goes bump in the might is really damn human where it counts. I don't know how much you know about Mr Dresden's past associates."

"No offense, but more than I am willing to blurt out to someone I just met."

"On the Sixth of July my husband was staking out Dresden's apartment when he was asssulted by a man matching the description of one Thomas Raith, a vampire and known associate of Dresden. He was later brought to hospital by another of Dresden's assoaciates in what seemed like an obvious warning to back off the wizard, a show of brute strength and connections in the force. I later found out that the reason he was even there to begin with was that he had received a phone call from a friend that implicated Dresden in the Splattercon killings. Said friend just so happened to be going on a fishing trip to Alaska and would be out of communication for the next two weeks. When I got in contact with him upon his return he claimed to have never made the call. He was also suffering from lethargy, loss of focus and appatite, irritability, all signs of someone who has been preyed on by a vampire. At the same time, starting before Howard's funeral even aquientances, sources connected with..."

"They White Court?" you prompt, as one might draw poison from the wound.

"Started hinting at Dresden and Ratih as the true cuprits after all who had escaped justice by means of sorcery. Someone Ms Carpenter had made my husband into a tool, a bomb to use against Harry Dresden and now that are attempting to do the same thing to me. Do not get me wrong I want to uncover who killed my him and why for the sake of justice, but also for the sake of my own survival."

As she had been speaking your gaze wanders out the window, to the backyard, the place Detective Grey had been killed and you ask of the bloodstained earth the question you had come here to ask: Who has murdered a man in sight of his own home here, reveling in pain and agony?

Lost 1 Essence -> Now at 5/12

Seeker broken, a breaking seeks. It twists and it coils like a serpent made of tar, poison that knows that it is poison, a violation of nature pressed upon its forms unwilling, so in spite seeking to prove is only a reflection of its own hateful self. Like a dying gasp on lips from which all agony had been drawn you hear its name: Naagloshii.

You gulp down some water to get the lingering foulness out of your mouth. Whatever that is, and the name is strange to Usum as it is to you, it it near as mighty as Iku-Turso and it is unbound under the sky.

Do you tell Agent Greene about what you just discovered?

[] Yes, she needs to know there's worse than vampires after her

[] No, you cannot afford for this thing, as clever and as wicked as it is, know someone is on its trail and has a name to put to it

[] Write in

OOC: You did not have to trigger IPP or anything from the Skinwalker insight because you got it from the Crown and that is already filtered so as not to harm the user since it is part of the Exaltation.

Ah, fuck. We getting these Fallen Angel things early?

Alright. Go DEFCON 1. Get Greene to safety because you just know she's gonna get targeted again. Talk to Bob to get IC knowledge for Molly about Naglooshi. Prepare some witchery Exalted equivalent for the Indian Holy Man Anti-Naglooshi Magic. Track it down. Kill it.

Also, telling the White Court Duo that Molly Carpenter is responsible for Greene being alive might be a terrible idea because you just know that Elder White Court SoB is gonna snitch on Papa Raith aka the current Naglooshi Handler. Might need to prepare protection for the other Carpenters as well. Oh, and Molly's friends too.

Goddamn it, way too many things to do.

Hmm, finally something that will last more than 2 rounds against us in a fight.

Leta get us a prey.
I dont think so, remember that Naagloshi's power is equal to how much fear they are feeling nearby. With IPP activated it shouldnt be strong enough to be a problem.

Also Im thinking that most elders of the White court shouldnt be as strong as the one we found here. I mean he is really old even for vampire standards and apparently he is feared even by the skavis the rulers of the court. He is probably one of the strongest of the White court.

Shit...

What could the Greenes have possibly done to get on the radar of a Skinwalker? Or worse, who has the resources or power to send one to do something so relatively trivial as murder Howard Greene for the purpose of framing Harry? There are plenty of other, less OMFG!terrifying shapeshifters and critters capable of using veils that don't interfere with technology that could have done the deed.

Naagloshi scale with fear, but they also have a base level power they accumulate over time, IIRC.

Anyway, once again my conviction to get more PUNCH FACE MOLLY STRONK charms + E3 gotten stronger.

[X] Yes, she needs to know there's worse than vampires after her
-[X] "If survival is your goal, you might want to see about getting out of the country for a while. I would recommend Australia."

I mean, will that really help if the king of all Raith wants her dead? The white court is an international organization after all. She would need to hide somewhere they don't have influence.

South America? China? I don't know who runs Australia, but as a European ex-colony I wouldn't put it past the Raith to hold sway there.

The Raiths might kill her. The Skinwalker will kill her, and it will not be a clean death.

From the wiki:
Naagloshii get stronger by eating the essence of practitioners—they eat magic and add their victim's power to their own. Eating a wizard gives the naagloshii considerable power; therefore, a wizard's power attracts naagloshii, especially if the wizard is wounded. However, the longer the naagloshii stay away from their home tribal lands, the more power they lose.[9]
Depending on how far the the Naagloshii is from home, and for how long, he might be managable.

Aside from whatever powers the Naagloshii might have stolen from practicioners, at the baseline it's just a reasonably strong shapeshifter that heals back from damn near everything.
That is something Molly can take on. Free aggravated damage FTW.

It's much more problematic depending on what power it has beyond that baseline.
It certainly has some ability to cast veils, since I doubt it had the chance to add Dresden to its repertoire of forms?

So... and listen me out - this might not be about Dresden at all. This might be about us. As in, getting to Molly. "Naagloshii get stronger by eating the essence of practitioners—they eat magic and add their victim's power to their own" - depending on how much everyone knows, we look like a prime meal for one.

Unless Green was a practitioner* there is no reason a Naagloshii should bother with him so far from it's territory. The idea that someone would just send one as a hitman seems weird to me. It feels like huge overkill.

*And wouldn't that be a twist.
