For me, this is the coolest both in terms of fluff and potential.

Bonuses to all stats because we're that much of a polymath, being able to cast in armour and access to all eight winds, albeit in a dabbling manner, but we can improve on dabbling without too much difficulty outside of Ulthuan. It's not like Qhaysh where it's slow to advance, especially without access to the White Tower.

There's so much potential here and its super flexible, gives us raw stats everywhere and sets us up to advance however we want to as a result!

And I think the flexibility will also mean it's a lot easier for us to survive and maybe even thrive things if/when they go sideways.

Just as a note, while I fully understand why you'd want to implement it this way, what Loremasters are actually supposed to be is prodigies who kind of turn up their noses haughtily at battlefield magic, preferring to master grand rituals to grapple with the heavens. Quite why GW chose to write them up as such for a tabletop wargame I couldn't say, but there you go.

Yeah I mean there is a degree of "I don't want to write a quest about a ritual caster, this is mercenary mage quest not bookclub nerd quest", but the lore for the loremasters does say that it's rare for two loremasters to go about seeking enlightenment quite the same way, which is further reinforced by Teclis being nothing like the tabletop example.

So the way I figure it is that there's lots of different kinds of Loremasters and the version presented by the tabletop rules is just one possibility, but it is the one I wanted to use to implement the option for the quest.

Yeah I get you. You can try to ride herd on it by like, saying this loremaster is about 'big rituals' in the sense of strategic warfare stuff, but why borrow trouble?

An exiled Loremaster honestly sounds pretty nifty. If nothing else being able to do all magic while armored, and able to knock arrows outof the air with a single two handed blade sounds cool as hell.

No natural mount, but probably the best all around infantry unit you could ever hope for.

I was pretty tempted by Dragon Mage, but since it's not winning, Loremaster looks to be just as good, if not better, in some ways.

Just for the record, you totally can swap out your starting troops for other shinies later. If you want to play a one-elf wrecking crew, it doesn't have to mean being a Dragon Mage.

Y'all are really going to make me keep track of eight different spellbooks, huh. :V

Nah I kid, I offered the option and I wouldn't do that if I didn't want it picked. But I do want to clarify for the people voting Loremaster that Dabbling means dabbling: in exchange for raw versatility the Loremaster is by far the worst caster amongst the options in terms of sheer power. And while you can improve and learn new spells, doing that as an Exile and totally lacking a support system is not going to be quick or casual.

I don't want to discourage anyone, versatility and blenderizing is absolutely a legitimate build to go for, but I do want to give fair warning so that people aren't shocked when they realize they don't have that much raw magical oomph.

Don't worry, that was clear from the get go in my eyes. I stand by my vote for Loremaster. I knew what I was getting into and it's the coolest option for me.

Mr. QM sir I have a question, could you tell us what the scale of magic we could feasibly complete during battle would be at the Dabbling level?

EDIT: Like obviously we can't affect the entire battlefield or probably even a company easily, but will it be only 1v1 kind of magic?
