Well now, ain't that a thing.
I must admit, Paradox of Choice was one of my inspirations, but I could never run something on the scale of kingdoms or even noble houses so I thought this was something more to my speed.

Dragon-Mage of Caledor let's gooooooo!
That is one of the options for magical traditions you can go for, yes.

Canonically every kingdom has its unique type of mages but only three are named, so I've had some fun filling up the blanks.

If the Exile wins, we can pick any tradition we want. Caledon we know, but what about Tiranoc? What of Chrace? Also, getting a dragon makes things too easy, there aren't many counters to that, it screams power gaming.

I mean, this is Mallus, IE one of the most dangerous death-worlds in fiction. I am quite happy with having a dragon buddy to watch our backs when the orcs and beast men and demons come knocking.

I mean, depending on what the specific magical traditions of the other kingdoms are, I might change my mind.

Awesome!
can I give some guesses?
Caledor has Dragon Mages
Avelorn has the Maidens of the Everqueen
Saphery has it's Loremasters and Swordmasters. I guess supercapable greatsword wielding magicians are their unique type?
Nagarythe has its's Shadowy Vengeance types. Forgot how they are called. The Shadow Stalkers?

so for the guesses:
Eataine / Lothern has naval-foccused Mages? weather forcast, mist, navigation etc. Or taming / communicating with sea animals
Ellyrion is the Horse-land: something with horses & time-distance manipulating magic?
Yvresse is the landof Mist and strange happenings in the Mists. they have Mistwalkers?
Cothique is, like Eataine, a renowned naval realm. Something naval-based i guess? Maybe they have the sea animal focuss, as their waters being further North have more monsters?
Chrace is the Hunters Realm. Guess shapeshifters or druids or something?
Tiranoc is famed for it's chariots and being a realm in rebuilding? Maybe shapers of stone and metal extra-ordinaire?

Why should we get a Dragon from Caledor, when we could just go to Cathay?
Cathayan Dragons are lords and masters of their own empire, and aren't too keen on hanging out with two-leggers who have the audacity not to prostrate themselves before their majesty.

Pretty sure we get access to the traditions if we go Agent as well.
Every option has access to magical traditions, but it does modify which ones you get. Exiled can't be one who realistically can't be exiled, Agent can't be one that can't fulfill the missions of your patron, and Wandering Mage won't have access to some of the more powerful options and will instead have to build towards them over the course of the game.

Also, getting a dragon makes things too easy, there aren't many counters to that, it screams power gaming.
Being a dragonmage has its drawbacks. The dragon is young, eats a lot, is terrifying, and draws attention which forces your employers and enemies to adjust accordingly. You don't send a dragon for missions that require even a whiff of sublety.

Becoming a dragon mage also locks you into Lore of Fire, gives you a penalty to dispel attempts and diplomacy (Except with dragons, dragons like you) and you lose out on having any other starting troops. For that you get to be pretty good at Aqshy, the ability to cast in armour and yes, a dragon.

Pretty good guesses, you've got some right and some wrong. There's also a few that don't correspond to any kingdoms.

Personally I would like to see how going Tiranoc would lay out for progress. Maybe better chariots and mounts, maybe we could get to the point that we're shooting lasers while driving through enemy armies!

I'm so torn between Agent and Exile... The hook for this quest is super interesting. Ah well, I've got 20 minutes to get my vote in, I'll try and think fast. 😂

2 minutes left and one of the main draws for me is that I love the idea of stuff impacting our life coming in from Ulthuan.

I would have preferred to be a secret agent, I think, but that's not going to win the vote looking at the tally. So let's go with the one where we have powerful enemies in Ulthuan! (and also a whole bunch of priviledged access to elite Asur stuff). Exile it is!

[X] Exiled Prince/Princess

Apologies for deleting and reposting, I put in the wrong settings into the tally initially. Exile wins, next vote will be magical traditions.

Our chances of getting a good elven spouse, ruined! We'll be single our entire life, which is a very long time indeed.
