Green Flame Rising (Exalted vs Dresden Files)

Molly rolled 19 successes on a dice pool of 20 dice at DC4; Occult is a Key ability, so 1s do not subtract successes. Legendary
Lydia rolls 7 successes on a dice pool of 12 dice at DC7. Legendary.
Helen rolls 2 successes on a dice pool of 7 dice at DC7. Adding autosux from WP, total is 3 successes.
Pauline rolls 3 successes on a dicepool of 7 at DC7. Adding autosux from WP, total is 4 successes.

Total combined count of successes at the end(-2 sux for safety) is (19 + 7 + 3 + 4 -2) = 31 successes.
Utterly hilarious.
:V

[X] While not quite the intended outcome, the results speak for themselves. This is our first ritual working with multiple unfamiliar participants, after all, not to mention the addition of the heirloom cauldron.

Only lie when absolutely necessary.
There's certainly no need to lie here. We just....overachieved.

Constructive Convergence of Principles is said to only be able to create creatures of darkness. Is our least god a creature of darkness?

Ok, it's made of curses, this is probably a stupid question.

In the depths of your mind, among the alien gears of a power twice gifted, twice cursed, a voice, a recording, crackling with static from some far off flash whispers:

"Ig...iti...n"
If we had rolled just a little bit better, would we have heard the word "divine" in there? Still, dredging the echoes of the First Moment... If Anduriel was listening in, what are the chances they are recoiling in horror?

This is a momentous moment - a least god born of those who hold Mandate of Creation has been born, first in many ages. They are not great, but they are the first. Those with ears to listen, with minds to know, take notice, new age is around the corner.

Also, we should probably talk with Harry, and redo the wards on his house. I am fairly sure that there we could do better. More prep, more essence, ideally WHWH to throw into the mix, and BSM for good measure. Harry and Bob advising and participating. Let's crack 30 successes.

You would have heard it if you had Constructive Convergence of Principles already, also it would have given you some options as to what kind of least god you wanted to make, as you did not have the charm it just went path of least resistance.

So did we roll 29 or 31 for the warding?

One of the special powers from Gods and Monsters is flight.
She could give her favorite horse the ability to play Ghostriders in the Sky..
Which works with the legends of her father's hunts back in the old country.
Depends on the thematics you're working with I guess. Lydia doesnt strike me as a horse girl.

I have access to a copy of Bygone Bestiary as well as Gods and Monsters, so I have some idea of what I expect thematically from different species. And given Arawn's association with certain animals, I would not be surprised if he's arranged for a couple to show up on his daughter's doorstep on or around her sixteenth birthday.

At least, thats how I'd do the first couple.

Remember that darkness does not mean evil.

Horror? No. Definitely not. Interest? Possibly.

No, Harry's a wizard. He can build his own wards without help, and has. His heavy duty wards were good enough to deflect an entropy curse thrown by a Denarian, and that was before he upgraded them after Dead Beat.
Plus, he has Mouse backstopping them now.

When 5 sux is legendary, 10+ sux really need to be called something else. :V
Constructive Convergence of Principles discount
So we have a small discount on this charm. That's nice, except it is a 5 dot charm of a non-favored hell, gatekeeping access to Holden's new crafting system. Still. This is a thing.

"Brief" refresher, since it was awhile we discussed Holden's new Crafting system.

By default, Constructive Convergence allows to craft Mage's Wonders, which are a type of magical items. This is arguably bad, because Wonders are mechanically kind of busted, and constantly need a GM to curtail worst of the "technically legal" excess. For Exalts, these "technically legal" excesses are worse. So, to fix this, Holden wrote a Masterworks crafting system.

Which is an insane 30k words monstrosity.

To boil down it into something sane, Exalts craft four categories of items;

Gadgets - Very Good Science, flashbangs, guns, jetpacks, orbital lasers, giant robots, etcetera - doesn't require special reagents, but requires a bunch of mundane materials. Broadly useful. Yog would be very happy with all of that.

Arcanas - golems and spirits. Useless, because recruiting minions and ensuring their loyalty is faster and simpler with Infernal charmset. Nevermind those Fomori empowering charms.

Prodigies - Alchemy and Enchanting merged into one charm. Of debatable usefulness compared to actual Alchemy and Enchanting, because Holden decided that everything 3 dots+ needs Rare Reagents, making crafting Good Stuff difficult.

Splendors - Alchemy and Enchanting, except there is a more detailed system to craft stuff. Useless at low dots, useful at high dots because it allows for some circumstantial "Break the setting's rules" effects like making people into Mages, or resurrecting the dead, or producing portable ley-lines.

All in all, it is a gigantic mess, and if anyone have some sort of a theoretical amazing project that makes it all worth it, then feel free to speak about it in the thread. Here are the rules, thanks to @OctarineShrike .

Compiled version also could be found on that ExWoD discord I linked before.

So, CCP is applicable to this kind of situation. I'll note that we didn't do a lot of what CCP requires, like a multi-hour long ritual, defiling our Wonder, etc. Does this mean that in-quest application of the charm is divergent from how it's written in the book?

And Harry, Mouse, Molly, and Lydia working together is drastically more than Harry working alone. Wards specifically designed to take into account Mouse being there and probably in command of said wards (like the general being in command of a fort) would work better than wards Harry likely has now (I don't remember him redesigning his wards around Mouse's presence).

Mechanically, assuming best possible conditions, Harry has at most 20 dice to throw at the problem of warding his house, even with Bob's help. Combined with all of us and with prep? Yeah, we can improve his protections, and by a significant margin as well.

There's no "good enough" when it comes to a protection of a magical commander in an active war. We don't need to spend significant resources on improving the wards, even. Just, more power, more successes, more high level people participating.

I would agree about going with Harry to re do the wards, but the small casters probably need the assistance more.

And keeping the small casters safe, able to defend themselves, and away from any dark powers does a heck of a lot more to keep him safe than harder wards.

CCP used to its full extent still needs all the things it does in canon, but the simple fact of having it means you are a little bit better at connected 'magical crafting' tasks such as this one.

Plus if we are working with Harry we can jump up to the next couple of significant numbers for essence spends. Spending 5 or even 7 essence likely provides a bit more... kick... than 3.

Though there is a joke in there somewhere about how "Hair of the dog" treats any number of ills, and a ward involving Mouse likely uses his hair in there somewhere, especially if the ward is centered around responding in kind to attacks.

Also - We should consider ways to strengthen the threshold of the station. It sounds like a good place to slap a powerful ward.

We shouldn't lie, but we can frame the truth better.

My understanding of how occult works is that Molly knew what she was doing when she did it, it wasn't just something she wished for in ignorance that ran away from her. Being transparent about the fact that once we got into the thick of things we took an opportunity we didn't preciously think was available makes it clearer that there wasn't a point where they were sitting next to an unstable magic nuke with completely unknown trigger conditions.

-[X] There was no point where this was out of control, but the opportunity wasn't apparent until after we started.

The proportional retribution thing is an interesting addition; it lowers what the least god will do in a lot of cases, but I wonder if the magical significance of it would make it stronger at the high end as well.

Even if it doesn't when that guy comes to kill Helen he'll still get a face full of 'three times worse than death' from a newborn genus loci.

… Actually, he is a Skavos planning to feed on her until she dies, so something substantially worse than being driven to suicide by magical despair.

Then there's his whole genocide plot that he's hoping to kick off with this murder spree; if that counts as part of his ill intent for the purposes of the ward then the first use it sees could be incredibly energetic let's call it.

It might have been kinder to go with the haunted gamma burst or something to be honest. :V

It's too bad that we can't reliably replicate this, putting least gods on the thresholds of all the minor practitioners we know would be funny.

… Actually, doesn't Lydia have a problem with her house not having a good threshold? Once that she needs to compensate for with whatever talisman her father hung around the entrances?

Might be worth our time to try setting something up with more kick at her place next.
