Green Flame Rising (Exalted vs Dresden Files)

I feel like the most important part of including Lydia is that it means that she also adds her overwhelming dice pool to the ritual which means that 2 essance might have less chance of going wrong then 1.

[X] 2 Essence from you and one fron Lydia, that is... proportional and if you time it right three is one of the numbers of great significance

No need to go crazy here. Two points maximum, more might end up doing bad things to the poor thing.
For the Dresdenverse, 3 specifically is significant in Dresdenverse magic.
There's no explanation, it just is.
There is a reason for the use of 3, while I can't say how much of this applies to Dresen cannon there are a ton of numerology implications of the number 3. First, and the most basic reason often used 3 is the least amount of sides that can be used to form a polygon, and it therefore represents stability. Second, 3 is a representation of unity because it takes the principles of identification found in the ideas of man being created first as 1 and woman being created second as 2, therefore a union between the two is the next step up, and again leads to stability. Third, 3 has a ton of mythological implications and therefore gets relied upon in magic a lot due the law of threefold resonance (which honestly deserves it's own spot) there were three witches in Macbeth, three Norns, three Fates who watched over the loom in Greek myth, three great gods in Greek myth, not to mention the correlation to the concept of the three domains of land sea and sky, there are three names of Ra, in Christianity God has three parts. There are so many things that make 3 pop up as significant, that I'm willing to trust in it, if nothing else the concept of a "stable union" when applied to our energy should help.

-[X] Use Occult Excellency
-[X] Use Crown of Eyes on the Cauldron for ways to make the power channeling through it safer
-[X] Lydia uses Intelligence Excellency

-[X] Stunt: "Oh, do you mind if I look at it closer? How do you use it? Do we need to boil a potion in it of some kind?" you ask, in honest curiosity, even as you
look as much as listen for the answer, the unseen and unfelt eyes of your soul gazing past this moment and into the past and far away. "There are some tricks to handling my power I think you might want to take into account, that I worked out when working with Warden Dresden". "Lydia, what do you think? How should we handle this?"

Something like that. I tried at a stunt, but honestly, it's difficult. Sorry about that. I think this is the safest we can make it. Crown should definitely help here, and it shouldn't be hard to disguise the source of knowledge.

If we are going to use the crown of eyes on the caldron I would much rather find out its full purpose and functions. It seems rather likely to me that it was made for a different purpose than it is currently being put to considering its long and broken history.

Also that gives us a chance of learning an occult secret which is always good for sustainability.

Possible, but, honestly, it's still a middling mortal enchanted object. Making sure we can use it safely with exalted scale power is more important than making sure a coven of mortal minor practitioners can use it to the best of its ability. Safety first and all that.

Being able to tell them though would further cement our status as a one of the wise. And it's original purpose is unlikely to be completely unrelated to how we are using it today.

Likely does not matter since 1 Essence has 7 votes and even if you combine all the 2 essance votes that only makes 6.

It's also harder to explain away knowing what the cauldron is for and how to use it perfectly than knowing how to use it safely. Crown of Eyes is a big asset and something to be kept secret.

I feel like living dangerously today. And between us and Lydia using Excellencies, we should get enough successes to minimize the risk.

I should note that you will be limited in your ability yo fix botches because neither of you has any applicable Path Magic (or indeed any Path Magic). You can add successes, but your successes cannot fix botches from the other participants
TLF is always active.
-3 DC to protect in areas of urban blight. And Molly has 7 or 8 dice of native countermagic
With that and Occult 5, they should be good. Not counting Lydia having her father in her head as an advisor.

Thats why i've been convined to roll the dice here.

I don't think we can apply countermagic to things not targetting ourself.

That takes a finesse that requires actual magic.

At least I think so.

In an active ritual where we're actively involved, I would think it qualifies, because any backlash would hit us too.
At least thats my opinion.

Still, it shouldnt matter. IIRC the mechanics correctly? ExWoD defines a botch as a roll with no successes and at least one 1.
If every one of the Ordo Lebes spends a temp Willpower for an autosux, as they should in a ritual, they eliminate the chance of a botch. They can still fail, but not botch.

Temp willpower successes do not count unless you get at least one native success

Anyways good night guys, see you tomorrow evening. I'll be traveling again tomorrow but when next I post it will not be from a toaster.

We should probably use a leadership excellency for an inspirational peptalk beforehand then. A stunt can be built around this. And with this idea, I am off to sleep.

Book appears to say otherwise. Citation:
Willpower said:
A player may spend one of her character's Willpower points to gain an automatic success on a single roll. Only one point of Willpower can be used in a turn in this manner, but the success is guaranteed and may not be cancelled, even by botches. By using Willpower in this way it is possible to succeed in a given action just by concentrating. For extended rolls, these extra successes may make the critical difference between accomplishment and failure
Source: V20 page 267.

Text seems explicit that you can spend a Willpower to eliminate the chance of a botch.
You may choose to houserule it otherwise, though.
Have a safe trip!

Beckitt's sharpness at least suggests that, sleeping together or not, Marcone hasnt told her anything about Molly's adventures a couple weekends ago. Else she'd be a lot more polite.
I wonder how much of this is just irritation at the teenager with Occult 5.
Being fair, the stunt could be taken as somewhat condescending. They clearly weren't planning to put enough juice in to directly start a fire and just accept the possibility of it being insufficient. The only thing they didn't consider was blinding bystanders.

I'll acknowledge that this might not be the most responsible, but I want to see something eldritch and freaky. With two exalts shaping the ritual with superhuman skill I feel fairly confident that it won't explode any of the witches.

Edit:

I'm reluctant to share information for using the cauldron better with our power directly since that tells them more about how it works then they might already learn from observation.

Modifying what we do is one thing, but an explanation seems more significant.

It definitely was. It isn't as if the fire mage doesn't know how fires work. They just considered it a small price to pay for home security.
