That isn't what no downside is supposed to mean by any reasonable measure. The idea is that using your charms won't directly hurt you with their normal operation unless they say they do. That doesn't mean there aren't consequences for them doing what they say they do.

Big flaming wings are big flaming wings; they won't give you third degree burns or set your drapes on fire, but people can still see them and react to what's present unless you do something that stops them.

It's about profile; if you're flying with wings then you're basically a sphere with the diameter of your wingspan for the purposes of being noticed.

Well, if you want to go that far- why don't we talk about radar profiles.

Did you know that some shapes produce a disproportionate radar profile? And that the human skull has a profile more in line with a truck?
That was actually a serious issue with the stealth fighter airplane design. The U.S. solved the problem by lining the cockpit with Radar absorbent material- in this case gold.

Did you also know that the human brain is particularly adapted towards spotting fast moving objects?

That is exactly what happens Exalted charms have no downside unless mentioned in the text for the charm.

Having giant flaming wings make no difference to how easy you can be spotted again Charms have no downside.

And it make no difference to how easy your are to be seen or hit with a gun. If little thing like that mattered to an Exalted they full stop could not have even had the potential to win the Primordial war. If exalted had easily exploitable weakness like that the Primordial who had full control over causality would have just messed with it to instantly win.

Molly is not a bunch of gameplay abstractions wrapped in irrelevant fluff, she is character who interacts with the world as part of the narrative of an interactive story.

On less asinine tangents, I'm quite happy the basic survival Charms are finally getting added to our repertoire.

Beyond being much more able to survive higher level combat, this is an opportunity to branch out into all of the other neat Charms y'all have been talking about for months now.

I think you will probably have a better chance when the next arc concludes. With 18 XP in survival Charms taken care of, a lot of leeway for other stuff opens up.

Say half a million on off the shelf parts, spend a couple of days rigging it up, not a supercomputer but plenty of CPU cycles for our needs. Virginia tech build a supercomputer around this time for 5+ million, way more then we need.

1. Build a little supercomputer to run support, and some light hacking.
2. Buy the upgrade HMP to allow it to work thou the internet.
3. Have our little setup start working on the supercomputers around the world. All the charm would need is even light access.
4. HMP the worlds supercomputers.
5. Own the internet.

1)HMP does not work over the Internet. Its line of sight, or at least line of perception. If you cant perceive the computer system with your senses, you cant HMP it.

2)Monthly running costs for a supercomputer in power consumption and network access is nontrivial. Just ask some of the big YT streamers what they pay for good network access. Universities rely on the cheap expertise of students and academic staff. Personal stuff requires professional staff.

3)Guess how much personnel costs are for a skeleton crew to keep the hardware running.
Then add a premium for staff willing to help break the law. Then pay for rent, airconditioning and security. Yearly.
Do the math for yourself.

4)Virginia Tech was a university. It paid university prices. Your costs as a retail consumer are going to be a lot higher


You tend to lowball or ignore a lot of these things when you make assertions.
Magic allows us to bypass a lot of problems that you would have to deal with if you tried any of this mundanely.
 
Wouldn't we get a demon natively capable of hacking if we HMPed something that's natively made for hacking? LIke we got a demon capable of driving when we HMPed Black Rider.
