Green Flame Rising (Exalted vs Dresden Files)

@the DragonBard, @Silent Optics, ya'll are both voting for Leave options, but not for the Leave option that actually has a chance to win the vote. You should consolidate your votes if you don't want the combat option to win.

Squaring up like this only makes sense if you presume she can't beat us no matter what she does.
^^^
Like I said, there is a disturbing arrogance about much of the vote's expectation that a baby Infernal is supposed to beat a thousand plus year old Valkyrie necromantic sorceress. While conserving Essence at that.

Cowl walked away after the Darkhallow, with all the power of a necromantic god, backfired in his face.
And the Capriocorpus literally survived the destruction of her body. Thats the sort of firepower, the sort of resilience, we're looking at from the top levels of the Thule Society.

  • [X] Try to persuade Matthews to turn the tables in Katrina, you can find Cindy afterwards with the Crown (Charisma+Empath Excelency still in effect)
-[X] STUNT: You steel yourself, your determination to end the threat, for she was a threat, awakening something within you. You do not fight it even as you take in her position and yours. You assess her appearance and danger even as you feel the Nuclear fire filling your veins, changing you. You smile at her, with a smile that promises violence. It was time to put her down. So you make your plea and give your minion its orders.

-[X] Assess the situation and use Green Sun Nimbus Flare as a finishing move or if a good opportunity presents itself in the form of Matthews or the car or any other ally.

I would honestly prefer to do this, IF I thought she had any intentions of letting us leave here. She also detected us doing something magical to her car. Whether she has some idea of what we did is unknown, but I doubt she's going to trust the car enough to drive it away without some thorough checks.
Sorry if Im replying to this a second time, but just to be clear:
There is nothing stopping Molly from leaving here right now, even if Kattrina picks a fight.
She can have the Beige Wagon remote activate and just drive off and pick her up as it leaves.

If she doesnt want whatsherface's car to start for the next thirty minutes, it wont start until she either has Molly's permission or can exorcise the car. Or it gets towed. If we want to limit the Mercedes speed to 50mph until it gets to Chicago and sees a mechanic, we can have the cyberdevil do that no problem, and our necro-Valk will never catch up.

The only reason for a fight to happen here is if we choose to have a fight here.
Is there any setting where thats good?
There are settings where its either permissible, or where you can outrun the consequences by just moving 50-100 miles away.
Even this one, if you'd arrived in the Wild West in the 19th century, or in parts of Central Africa in the 20th century, noone would stop you if you decided to square up.

The middle of the American Midwest in the 21st century, 2 hours from Chicago, in daylight, is not one of them.

Yeah, setting special exalted weirdness aside for a moment, we're currently at the stage where a solaroid can be murdered by mid tier terrestrials.

When making our power comparison, pinning people like our Valkyrie friend here against the dragon blooded isn't the worst way to do it.

A thousand years sounds like plenty of time for a demigod sorcerer specced into a prep heavy path to get good enough to compete with mid range terrestrials and exigents.

<.<

A group of mid tier Terrestrials is a threat to anybody. Even more so if they fight smart.
-Gets ready-

But dragonblooded are not real Exalted. One even exalted as a Solar in that story.

Sorry I can't hear that over the sound of the entire solar deliberative moaning about power levels.

She almost definitely is. Look at this:
At the very least you don't think she is about to challenge you to a duel here and now you can hear the sound of kids playing not far away and cars passing by the bridge, in the distance the church bells calling the townsfolk to worship.
This is from two updates ago, and still applies. She can't start a fight here without causing trouble she can't afford.

I'd argue, we're still at the point where a solaroid would get ganked by an experienced mortal sorcerer in Creation.
They'd run into the dude's squad of blood apes, or minions equipped with peronnelles and sesseljae and just go splat.
A mid-tier Terrestrial is just overkill.

Here, in the Dresdenverse, a lot of their heavyhitters are older, but not that old. Morgan is only about a hundred and twenty. Luccio is maybe 200 ish. Kemmler was maybe a hundred and fifty, two hundred max when he was permakilled, judging from the Wild West short story. Ebenezer, Listens to Wind, the Merlin himself, are all in the 300ish range.

So when you have a sorceress who is a thousand years plus.....well, the only White Council wizard I can think of in that age range is Rashid the Gatekeeper.
It implies a potentially horrifying level of experience and expertise. And power, if she's been nibbling on the power of ghosts and the like,

Even if true, it still does not address the fact that we are going to fight her anyway. Keep this in mind.

Options are not, "Fight her or do not fight her", but "Fight her now or fight her later when she tracks you down"

The latter is more dangerous as we do not respair Essence in that time but she has the chance to prepare for us. If we attack now, we get to choose the battle field and prepare. If she chooses, we are even more boned.

Don't discount the likelihood that we will have at least some backup by that point...
Also, we don't really have the option to prepare at all here either.

Eventually before the end of this arc, I expect a big throwdown. But not here.
Trying to find us on US-20 before we get home without a tracker is a literal needle in a haystack problem.

I mean, its worth remembering: She doesnt know who we are.
Neither does Mathews. We didnt introduce ourself to him when we showed up with Dresden; Mathews only knows our face. No name. The bulk of her identifying data is "young woman with piercings and dyed hair, driving a beige car".

Now if she was an investigator, or had an investigator with her, I'd expect her to try to grab our license plate as we drive off and check the DMV. But I doubt she's ever had to do that sort of modern investigative work; she's a thousand years, and rich.
Thats what minions are for.

Similarly, crawling social media to find Molly's page based on her memory of our face is not something she can automate.

Maybe when she gets home she can summon something to attempt to find Molly, but thats not something to do on the fly.
And whether she'd get a spirit that would look at Molly's presence and choose to take the job is a different matter.
Its like with the Denarians; hard to get info from spirits because no spirit wants them mad.

Ink Monkey Bones #8: Modern Infernal Charms

Today we have another guest post by the inimitable Robert Vance. He’s assembled a congeries of old, unpublished Infernal Charms for the Modern Age shard from Shards of the Exalted Dream. Thes…

We get backup?
I figured asking the old man was the only way for us to have that back up.
I suppose God could send our dad to help us out.
Our Dad is at home. She kidnapped a child.Of course he'd help.
Or we could literally go to Harry's place and ask the semi-divine Temple Dog that guards the place to back us up.
Or we could call Sigrun Gard and find out if she wants a piece of this action.

Besides, we can and should call and ask Mouse to wake Bob and ask if he'd heard of NecroValk and if he could give us a rundown of her abilities and/or weaknesses.
We benefit from putting this off a lot more than she does.

I thought we were over an hour away or something. Depending on how soon she stops us wouldn't they have to... like have left even before we call for backup?

Also would the Sword protect him for something like this? I thought it only applied for "official" work. Even otherwise, Knights have died. So calling him is a risk.

Two and a half hours to Chicago.
But we literally have a demon in her car. We can track her in realtime, disable or impair it when we choose, and the speed limit is around 70mph on the Illnois interstate.

Plus, she actually has business with Mathews to handle; thats why she kidnapped the kid.
If she tarries five minutes, she's never going to catch us unless she has the senses to see a cyberdevil, the skill to perform a field exorcism, and her power trumps the Exalted charm putting the cyberdevil there.

There's a kidnapped child.
Thats very much the Sword's business, as much as Charity being kidnapped as a sacrifice to Siriothrax was the Sword's business.
As much as vampires attacking White Council trainees in the canon Proven Guilty plot was the Sword's business.

Just remember that the Swords, and the Knights that bear them, are forgiving to a fault.
They give the perp every opportunity to retreat, or change their mind, or surrender.
Michael gave even Nicodemus that opportunity, even after Shiro.

Consider me skeptical. But I don't think we'll really need the back up anyway.

I've seen much worse flaws. And much more tired and boring tropes.

She's a Valkyrie. She can fly if she really wants to. She's just driving to show off and cause she's lazy.

The annoying thing that's kept me from voting for any plan thus far is that no plan has us ask the Crown about her fighting style/capabilities. We're gonna have to fight her either here or on the road, so it'd be best to get that info ASAP.
