Green Flame Rising (Exalted vs Dresden Files)

I think the heart of Charity's concern is that we're going to do something reckless and stupid. There's what's reckless and stupid for a mortal or wizard and there's what's reckless and stupid for exalt and the threshold is higher. The part about keeping our grades up is meant to ensure we have a way out/shot at normal life if it comes down to it.

Also you literally get better at stuff the more dramatic you are, that is what stunts are. The trouble is that is rather hard to put into believable arguments.

-[X] You agree to the first parts, you will do your best in school and you will listen to dad, but you can't promise not to go into trouble if it shows itself, or to avoid all places where it might find you. The craving for knowledge is part of you on the one hand and the desire to act when you see wrongs being commited is all on your parent's education on the other hand.
Okay, just found this quest today, but if I can make a suggestion? Ask that "dangerous situations" be defined by our dad's standards instead of hers. And a waver for if someone in front of us needs help now and we think we can. The "Dad's definition" clause should at least let us go book shopping, and moral arguments should work for someone needing immediate help.
Its not a magically binding oath. But Charity would consider going in to kick the ass of muggers to be in violation even if Molly doesn't.

Hence, don't leave it to stand

@DragonParadox I have a question about how our crown works. Let's say we look at Harry Dresden and ask the question "how does wizard's regeneration work?". Following the lottery logic, does this mean that we now can't ask a question about wizards in general? If so, can we still look at, say, Mccoy and ask "what are the identities of his blood relatives?" as that is a question about him as a person, not a wizard?

Wizards are more interesting than mundane lotteries so that would count as your question for 'wizard' generally rather than Harry if you formulated it that way.

Crown of Eyes and You
Crown of Eyes and You

The basic gist of the crown goeth thusly: While intensely studying an object, situation, or individual that is within her line of sight, the Infernal may spend 1 Essence and ask one question about it, which the Storyteller must answer honestly. The Infernal can only ever use this power a single time on any object, situation, or individual.

You need to actually meaningfully perceive things with your normal senses to ask about them, though some amount of inference is permited. So if you see a picture of someone's hand strangling another person, you can ask about the attacker reasonably inferring that there is someone attached to the hand, but even though you are in the universe you cannot conceive of the whole of of from an outside perspective, the word universe is an abstraction like 'everything' so you cannot ask about it.

So what about things that are related, what about classes of people? How many questions do you get? It depends, specifically it depends on the quality of the secret, this is a mystical tool for ferreting out the darkest secrets of the world, it will give you more leeway when you want to look at the obscure, the occult and the dangerous than it will the safe and the mundane. You get one lottery number and, one horse race winner etc... but you can ask about wizards, vampires and other supernatural beings individually and as a group. The same holds for secrets that are mundane but perilous to know. What is John Marcone's greatest fear? will not close you off from asking about other gangsters, even from asking about his organization because those are secrets kept with blood and murder and your eyes peer most intensely at them.

On the matter of things that might perhaps be too arcane, too dangerous, say the current thoughts of an Outsiders or 'how did the Fall happen?' your crown will prioritize keeping your mind intact over the fidelity of the data. It is not going to feed the raw stuff of mind-bending madness into your head just because you asked the wrong question. That said you can totally find out things that you would rather not know so you should be careful of that.

OOC: I will be adding to this as more questions are asked about the crown. Given how powerful it is I feel like it is inevitable this will happen and best to keep it all in one easily accessible place

We ask and it turns out that they think we are adorable and want to give us all the cuddles.

Its not their fault that we tend to discorporate at a conceptual level when exposed to even token amounts of their love.

Gribble. Gribble. Gribble.

[x]Sure, but I want to come back to the subject of risk management later, once we've slept a bit or something.

I am not sure about this, but I think its a suitable question.

Will the range of "safe" or "useable" information the Crown can grant us expand as we grow in Essence as a sign of increased spiritual and metaphysical potence as we become closer to the Demon-Empress-To-Come we could be, or would it require innovating some transhumanist Charms?

Understand how powerful I am would probably work better. 'Supernatural hierarchy' is too vague since you do not know how you would fare against every supernatural being

By the time your soul is its own realm, you can flay your body and soul apart for clones etc.. you will be able to learn more eldritch lore without harm yes.

On the whole, the general thrust is the same as the other write-in, "Listen to Dad" and "Finish Studies" are agreed to, the only thing is "I can't guarantee that I'll never take any risks, but I'll definitely do my best to make things as safe as I possibly can if I do"

And hey, we've got Omnicrafting potential now, prep time memes have been unlocked!

More so if we can ever shake loose the XP needed to learn Constructive Convergence of Principles and unlock Wonder-making, gadgets galore!

(Again, it hurts me that people just sleepwalk voted Kakuri when so much of the Cool Shit in the Infernal toolbox is Wicked City, gah!)

Did she really think you could outrun a swarm of flying giant bat monsters or just leave it to the wizards to handle the fangs and claws? Wizards being
Imagine her surprise when she finds out that she can.

Demonic Aspect: Swift Stride doubles her base movement and jumping speed.
Then the Skinned Alive charm Wind Born Stride(2 dots) permanently triples her movement speed, and doubles her Initiative rolls without spending Essence. Spend 1 Essence, and it multiplies her base speed by 10x.

Getting anywhere from 6x to 20x times faster in movement speed is running on water territory.
Aim dodging territory.
And it shouldnt cost her more than 8XP for the charm Wind-born Stride and another 6XP for a Rage Recast repurchase.
What do you reply?

The first two requests are reasonable. The third and fourth are dealbreakers.
Charity herself didnt exactly wait for Michael before attempting to track down a kidnapped Molly into the heart of Winter's Power with only Dresden and a White Court vampire as backup.

They've both clashed often enough on these issues for Charity to expect Molly to balk at this.

Molly was loath to acquiesce to Charity's rules and demands as a normal teenager who just wanted to hang out with her friends and dye her hair and tinker with magic; thats why she moved out.
Let alone as a Willpower 9 Infernal with cosmic power at her fingertips.

Charity remembers Molly when she was a toddler, she would maintain that has always been her nature. :V
And she would be right.

In canon, Molly had moved out of the house by the events of Proven Guilty because she and her mom kept butting heads, and she'd been arrested for possession of marijuana and ecstasy at a party; she was allegedly holding them for someone else, not using them herself. She does have an established history of Curiosity with a capital C.

IIRC, it was one of Dresden's conditions for taking her as an apprentice that she move back home.
Both for emotional support, and as a test of learning control and restraint.
In Death Masks, Molly is fourteen years old. By this time she developes a rather Goth scene look in clothes, piercings, and make-up when not at home, but changed back to conservative clothes in the treehouse before going home.[3]

Molly first manifested her magical power about two years before the events of Proven Guilty, when she instinctively created a veil. After coming home from school she had entered the house while still wearing her Goth clothes, confident her mother was out. When Charity, who had stayed home sick, happened onto her in the living room, Molly, in a panic, unconsciously veiled herself. Shocked to discover her mother did not acknowledge her, she went to her room to change her clothes, now aware that she might have magical talent.[4]

Molly was arrested for possession of marijuana and ecstasy, which she was caught holding during a police raid at a party, and sentenced to community service. Her father thought her apparent repentance was enough, but her mother insisted on further actions and restrictions. In the spring before Proven Guilty, the familial situation escalated, resulting in Molly leaving home and dropping out of school.[1]

-[X]Stunt: I promise to be careful when possible, to listen to Dad, and to work on my grades. But trouble will not always schedule itself for my convenience or his, and I have the strong feeling that I must learn as much as I can as fast as I can to be prepared when it does show up. Other people need Daddy too; he wont always be around. You didnt wait for Daddy to come back before you came for me, did you?

One of the hardest things about being a parent is realizing when your children are growing up.And when you must let go.
Charity's traumas around magic and her own history as a teenager/young woman color her judgement here, and defusing it is tricky.
Molly has canonically demonstrated the intent and will to walk away. They love each other, but they're too alike not to clash.

Im not comfortable using an Excellency on Charity here.
Feels too much like crossing a line for something that isnt necessary.

She got over her dislike for magic in canon without Exalted level persuasion, and there Molly was learning magic under the Sword of Damocles; one misstep and the Wardens would cut off her head.
She'll do so here as well.

I'd argue that Excellency is no different in nature from other social approaches(and makes up for Charity's amazing Dig Heels In Dice).

Using the Crown or other supernatural influence would be too much, but this is just constructing the same argument better. She can throw willpower at it to reject absolutely if she wanted.

Its a bit too late for "crossing lines", we seem to have done so already.

Hardly thinking about it you reach out for that spark of power and kindle it into a flame of insight in your mind, that by its light you can find the right words "Mom, no matter what happens, no matter what I can do or how I change, block of ice stabbing things with poison fire I am still going to be me. No one, nothing can make me stop loving the people I love."

There is an odd ring to your words and you know at a level deeper than reason can touch that it is true, that your power will make it true if it has to.

Spent 1 Essence

"Oh sweetly, you don't even know what it is," she replies, but she sounds less certain than she was a moment ago.

I have been thinking.

We can stack not just the Demon aspect to double movespeed and Wind-Borne Stride.

If we repurchase By Rage Recast again, se can also add flight. And the movement speed increases just mention movement not that we need to run.

How fast would we be? Sounds pretty useful for getting into melee range and travel.

It might be super-helpful to keep the list of questions previously asked as a separate post (perhaps adding to this one), under spoiler for new readers. Or at least to keep the list of entities we asked about.

I'm not sure of the actual mechanics, but more speed and mobility is always appreciated.

Being faster in general will probably work really well with using the Ways in the Nevernever for travel purposes. Walking the Ways like a muggle can already dramatically shorten distances between two points in the mortal realm, so being able to blitz them at highway speeds might be as close to teleportation as we can reasonably manage. The Ways are not super safe, either, so the faster you move the less likely you are to have a bad encounter.

Flight could make that even better. Most beings who use the Ways are limited to ground travel. Flying would probably help us avoid a lot of dangers, plus we could probably discover entirely new Ways that are exclusive to airborne travelers.
