Green Flame Rising (Exalted vs Dresden Files)

It probably helps that they aren't real outsiders. Its probably just something that got in ages teleoperating.
I think that's just how lesser outsiders work in general; they're weird, but still count as outsiders.

Even if they didn't they're still an active link outwards; a risk to reality and a "living" violation of Winter's greatest duty.

In terms of being an insult it's still basically just as bad.

Personally I'm more interested in how the red court managed to smuggle Outsiders into what was likely Winter territory.

Also how they managed that without causing a mutiny among the strike force, cause that shit is a one way trip to a pissed off Sidhe's torture dungeon at best if they get caught. You're not only consorting with their mortal enemies, you're effectively mocking them with it in their own homes.

Edit: dropped a letter
Basically this. Something is seriously fucked for the Blackstaff to be jumped on the Ways by Outsiders backing Reds

Occult tells us the How, but not the politics that makes it possible.

[X] Yes
-[X] Why were they using these outsiders? That seems insanely dangerous even compared to literally summoning demons.

So, how bad of an idea would it be to look at the sword of the cross with our crown? Because so far angels and White God seem to be our best lead in finding the true nature of our exaltation (Uriel, who is likely a third circle deva of primordial YHWH, seemed to know at least something, though he is either mistaking our exaltation for a solar one, or coaching his words in the way to best pacify Michael). We could ask something like "what exactly is the sword?" or "what made it?" or "how is the sword related to our power?" even, given that Molly noted similarities.

Unless we want to go and dig in Yomi Wan to find some more exaltations, or at least at the place where ours was found.

I think she'd have a bit more respect for White God's decisions than that, especially after she got a literally divine character witness.

The reason I don't want to do that is that I feel we don't know enough about...any of that to use our once per question.

Well, worse comes to worst, there are three swords, two of which are in our relatively easy reach, if I recall correctly. Even if the first question ends up somewhat wasted (and I doubt it), we will have two more.

I am not sure about that. Its possible that if we ask too general a question, the target won't be for example "Amoracchius" but "the Sword(s) of the Cross" and all three would count.

We know how they were made right?

Nail+Saviour juice. Possibly along with a permanent sacrifice of power on behalf of god or an angel?

Yes, nails of the cross.

But still, knowing how they were made doesn't mean we understand why or exactly how they work.
Taking a look at Yahweh's artifact-crafting looks like an interesting prospect.

@DragonParadox
Small thing, could you add the benefits of our Demonic Guide to the Character Sheet?

Stuff like the bonus on initiative and perception are good to have at hand at all times, else it goes forgotten for a roll.

Will do, thanks for the reminder

  • [X] No, as impressive and interesting as he has been you are just glad to have gotten through this
    [X] Yes
-[X] How did he wind up being chased by vampires on the way here anyway? You'd think traveling by portal should be harder to intercept.
[x] "Hey Harry, is now the right time to be asking the sorts of questions I was asking in the church" (aka obliquely check with Harry if you should offer Ebenezer some psuedo-intellectus backed questions)

Normal form.
We get shintai at Essence 2 at the very earliest, so you have some idea of the passive effects an Infernal's normal form is likely to have running at E2.

Remember, combat effect in shintai. A naked, unarmed temporary clone with no magic is not a useful combat aid.
I have no idea what you are saying here. The charm flat out says that you get two human clones and that they are not shintai form but our regular human body. By RAW it is useless, I agree but that is how it is written.

Arc 1 Post 4: Eyes Above
Eyes Above

7th of July 2006 A.D.

There's an old proverb that says that the wise know when to be quiet, or at the very least you think there is a proverb to that effect, you heard it from a wise old master type character in one of Mathew's shows. Given the quality of the dubs he will take in anime sometimes the character might have actually said that to get your fries you have to know when to start a riot, but it sounds wise enough to you that you contain all the questions that come to mind, about the Council and its politics, about the war and about magic. Everything McCoy is likely to share Harry probably knows as well and everything Harry does not know the old wizard is not likely to tell you over coffee because you asked nicely.

Harry tries to convince him to stay, but the old man shakes his head, beard and mustache tangling up even harder with the sigh. "Can't Hoss, have to report the leeches on the Ways then I have a meeting an' after that... 'nother meeting. Winter's on the defensive more than usual, Summer's on the warpath and something's really stirred up the Wyld Hunt."

"Rare it is for the huntsman to have lost prey as mighty as you," the demon in your head gloats. You do not share the thought, since if he is right it's not like you can fix it. What are you supposed to do offer up your own head on a spike?

"The Huntsman bears no ill will to those who by guile or strength escape him," Usum corrects you. "He is but emboldened to scare up even mightier prey."

"Good luck to him finding vampires them,"
you scoff at the thought of wasting all that power on what is basically a pissing contest.

"Thank you Harry, for being here for my family again," your dad says to Harry. "You're a good man."

Of course Harry is a good man, you think automatically. That did not really need saying. There is something strange about the tone as well, all the more so as it's dad and he does not do the whole hidden meanings thing very often. Does he secretly think that magic makes you less likely to be good? No, that's not it, he did mean it. It's just he added it because he must have felt Harry needed to hear it.

"Thanks don't seem like enough for all you've done, so if you ever need help or like a clue to a case give me a call, you have my number," you offer sincerely.

"I... Best learn out of trouble before you decide you want to get into the buisness of looking for it," he answers with a smile to take a sting out of the words.

What the...? Oh, you actually hadn't been flirting that time, but it's not like you can say so. Seriously there should be like a dedicated flirting channel, like maritime flags or something, you huff inwardly.

As you and dad get in the car he is quiet, just sort of looking at you, as if to consign to memory all the ways in which you had changed. He does not comment on your driving, which is apparently rare for dads given the stories you had heard from girls at school, but then about a third of the way there as you are stopped at a light he speaks up quietly.

"The part of Uriel's message he asked me to give to you alone was a request. He said not to look into angels or heaven, or anything else that would reveal the mind of God in ways he does not mean to be revealed."

It feels like you had been struck by lightning, like you had been broken in three: One part Molly Carpenter dumbstruck that you are even hearing this, one part demon whirling with cold machinations and one part unshakeable wordless certainty older than the foundations of the world that you had the power and the right to use it. And then you are one again human, demon and eldritch power, you have always been one, your voice comes out surprisingly even. "So you know about the crown then?"

"I know only what I have been told and visitations rarely explain themselves to human satisfaction," dad replies seriously.

"I have a... power to know one answer about anything I lay eyes on, besides the power itself, the. eyes in my flames." You had almost said 'spark of intelectus' but t he only one who had used that term was Lasciel and you did not know if was a giveaway of some kind that you talked to an angel. "I just didn't realize anything meant anything until now."

"Likely why this messenger came to your father and not to you Peerless Seer of Eternity," Usum is quick to point out. "If you had refused his request you could then ask a question of his nature and secrets, being under your eye."

An archangel did not show up to meet me because he was afraid of what you might learn of him,
the idea sounded preposterous on one level and perfectly reasonable and all the more terrifying on another. You have never been more glad for a light change in your life.

"Uriel also said..." dad hesitates, as if struggling to find the words. "If you agree do limit yourself like that it wold be part of my charge to mentor you as far as I am able."

Silence again.

"For the record I am really shaken right now," you say finally.

Dad smiles more than a little shaky himself, but he puts his arm around your shoulders. "Same here pumpkin, same here."

Do you accept the covenant that Uriel proposed on the behalf of Heaven?

[] Yes, Michael takes up his task of mentoring you among his other formal duties with the knights

[] No, you will not limit yourself thus (Lose Mentor; you are refunded 5 Freebie points; ???)
-[] Write in what you spend them on

OOC: Getting a Knight of the Cross as a mentor has more than just mechanical costs same as if you had a high generation vampire or a werewolf elder in WoD, but still if you do not want to take it there is a mechanical refund.

Imagine not learning all that we can.

-[X] Buy 1 pt of WP, buy off Nightmares

I'll think about what to spend them on. I'd probably want WP 10 / Dex 5 or buy off Nightmares tbh.

Sure. The only limitation is that we do not use the eye on them. So we can still find out the old fashion way.

Yeah learning more about the heavens would be nice but Molly is still very much a respectful Christen girl and just received the closest thing to a direct request from God she is likely to get given her abilities. A request delivered via her father who is a literal servant of God.

While it is certainly possible that the other aspects she has picked up in the last day or so could push her to ignore this request it would represent a pretty massive character shift not to mention the impacts it would have on our family relations.

Besides; Micheal is an awesome mentor.

I actually trust Uriel to have a really good reason for this.

I mean, if something covered by that actually becomes a relevant need to know such that we'd be realistically be considering breaking this promise over it, at that point it'd probably be easier to ask politely for divine guidance to allow us to maneuver around whatever secrets we shouldn't be learning without letting innocents die, because I can't see Molly having much other reasons besides that kind of thing to consider going back on a promise to her father and to the god of her upbringing when asked for like this.

Especially since this isn't a demand from up on high, this isn't another 'oh you broke a rule you did not know existed, sucks to be you' like was with the White Council's laws. Uriel asked, about as politely as was possible given that he couldn't afford to let us see him because he didn't know if we'd agree or not.

At a guess from Usum, you could ask such questions as 'How can this angel be most swayed to Fall?' and 'How would one go about destroying the Swords?' Knowledge is in a very real sense power and the more it is hidden the more power you get from unveiling it.
