Green Flame Rising (Exalted vs Dresden Files)

Autochton did self lobotomy but his thematic is itself the transcendent craftsmen and transgressing boundaries. Ironically the self-surgery to cross borders is in theme for him.

As for the Aftershock War Primordial, as with all similar events like Yozi, it took trimming their soul hierarchy enough to change, like Primordials to Yozi just...not mutilated.

Spiritual surgery and level of change it implies is questionable that if the same level of change happened to a person, would most people even recogize them as the same.

Edit: Also, I don't think we know what the Mythos of the Aftershock one was. The Ebon Dragon was originally The Dragon's Shadow before Sol existed and he could antithesis him, but he did exist.

It just that he changed a lot, as Opposition is still him just...well, there were some changes if not so drastic.
It sounds like the Yozi do change. Just in deranged and deviant ways that they all find horrifying. Like Adorjan purging her ability to feel anything but positive emotions.

As an aide. Since we have mentor five, lets see what that does...

Mentor
This Trait represents a Kindred or group of Kindred who looks out for you, offering guidance or aid once in a while. A mentor may be powerful, but his power need not be direct. Depending on the number of dots in this Background, your mentor might be nothing more than a vampire with a remarkable information network, or might be a centuries-old creature with tremendous influence and supernatural power. He may offer advice, speak to the Prince or Archbishop on your behalf, steer other elders clear of you, or warn you when you're walking into situations you don't understand. Most often your mentor is your sire, but it could well be any Cainite with an interest in your wellbeing. A high Mentor rating could even represent a group of like-minded vampires, such as the elders of the city's Tremere chantry or a Black Hand cell. Bear in mind that this Trait isn't a "Get out of Jail Free" card. Your mentor won't necessarily arrive like the cavalry whenever you're endangered (and if she does, you're likely to lose a dot or more in this Background after rousing her ire). What's more, she might occasionally expect something in return for her patronage, which can lead to a number of interesting stories. A mentor typically remains aloof, giving you useful information or advice out of camaraderie, but will abandon you without a thought if you prove an unworthy or troublesome protégé.
• Mentor is an ancilla of little influence, or a Ductus or Pack Priest.
•• Mentor is respected: an elder or highly-decorated veteran, for instance.
••• Mentor is heavily influential, such as a member of the Primogen or a Bishop.
•••• Mentor has a great deal of power over the city: a Prince or Archbishop, for example.
••••• Mentor is extraordinarily powerful, perhaps even a Justicar or Cardinal.
Sour our father would be an extraordinarily powerful example of his kind. Which tracks. I also can't see him abandoning us. Even if he does need to rescue us for some reason :V

Though I will point out he is a very good mentor for us particularly. If our plan is to change the world for the better with the blade of a sword, there is not better example to live up to than the Knights of the Cross.

And while he might not have our raw dice pool, or be able to match our excellency (without his own swords magic). Hes been a mortal swordfighting against wizards and supernatural terrors for decades. Hes got to have loads of tricks.

It wasn't that Yozi don't change. They can't do or think things outside their Mythos.

But if Ebon is Opposition, who he opposes changes how he acts but not his base nature. Dude's just opposing Sol 24/7 now though.

Autochton is transgression and tools, so he rigged up a method to let him do whatever, good reason or bad.

Adrian's endured suffering from all souls dying instead of inflicting it, so Adorjan shucks all bonds to be free of suffering...by inficting suffering onto others.

Malfeas is the most fucked up because Theion's theme was king which was objectively proven to be not him. See Nightmare Fugue Vigilance as to his mental state and delusions.

Cecelyne was of law. So when everyon rebelled and won, she learned that the only Law is might, and acts accordingly hypocritical, which is what she thinks is truth.

Swlihn also got fucked up bad by Hierarchy being so upended and her answer was basically to double down on fuck free will thing.

Edit 2: A Dresden example would be how the favour and "love" of a Winter Court fae might be as bad as hatred.

They might want the best, but the lens that interprets the best is...Winter.

But there is a difference between hatred and like, its just that the basic, essential (heh) nature does not change.

Arc 0 Post 16: Secrets Great and Small
Secrets Great and Small

5th of July 2006 A.D.

Asking for advice is asking for trouble, you get off the chair start for the door, then you stop again. No reason to be rude even if you don't like someone, you can practically hear your mother's voice. You really do not think she had meant that advice for this occasion but still you turn to the Fallen Angel still looking unfairly composed and regal on that battered chair and nod. "Thanks, I'll keep that in mind."

Lasciel sort of huffs amused then she slowly gets up and wordlessly poses with the boots, giving you a good loot at them. "You can probably make them, if you get the leather proper stitching and the silver. Making yourself very good at stabbing things isn't all you can do."

"What do you know about what I can do?" the question slips out. It is not asking for advice, you remind yourself.

"I have some guesses, quite a lot of them in fact, but now is not the time to share them." She tips her head to the side, thinking. "As as gesture of goodwill I will say this much, when I saw you slip off that torment tree I got the feeling that I should know precisely what you are, but I didn't and a phrase came to mind, in Latin of all tongues: 'Hic sunt dracones'."

"Here be dragons," you breathe. Latin is not your best subject at school, but you do like history and that was one of the things they used to write on the edges of old maps usually with dragons and monsters drawn in.

"Maybe ask a dragon, they remember much and their tongues are less bound by oath than most, but beware their pride."

So it is that with the words of a Fallen Angel still ringing in your ears the vision fades to mist and the mist takes on the familiar hues of cream and white that revolve into the shape of Saint Mary's. Harry is still sitting right where you left him, but he looks like he has been though a hell of a run, breath rattling in his chest.

You on the other hand feel refreshed, like the fire that burns in your mind just got a little brighter from knowing that which you had not before, from revealing secrets unspoken.

Gain 1 Essence

"I don't know where this power comes from, but it's yours, no strings attached other than having it." He runs his hand though his hair making it even more messy and giving you the inappropriate urge to just pat it back into place. "Be careful with it, power changes you. With great power comes great responsibility."

Did... did he just quote Spiderman at me? Now you find yourself swallowing a laugh at the sheer silliness of the situation, but then the mirth fades from your thoughts as you recall the conversation you had, the Council, the Laws. You could just keep quiet, you think Lasciel would play along since she has by her own admission no reason to sow discord between you or you could admit that you just had along chat with a Fallen Angel about wizards... and about Harry himself. He probably would not want you to know about his first... girlfriend, Lasciel had said 'lover', but that word sounded super awkward outside the context of talking to Lasciel.

What do you tell Harry about the soulgaze and the talk with Lasciel?

-[X] Leave out learning about his personal life, other things are fair to talk about.
-[X] Key to the Kingdom/Excellency use.

Something like this. Though, I can't write stunts
Edit: Or we can just dump it all. Thats also fine by me.

I was wondering, how does our Key to the Kingdom interact with Crafting?

Say we make a pair of great boots, can we boost the crafting roll even though it clearly takes longer than the 2 minutes of superhuman excellency?

Yes, once you start a roll with an excellency active as long as you do not put the task down you can keep using the supernatural insight. Given that people eat and sleep and take breaks you are probably going to have to spend more than one mote on most crafting projects.

I don't know what kind of stunt to make here, aside from the joke about pretty ladies in his soul, so bare vote it is.

How does one define free will?

Do humans truly have free will or are we deterministic?
For the purposes of DF yeah humans definitely do. Being able to choose instead of being stuck forced to follow roles and rules forced upon you is a key property of the mortal soul.

The choices aren't always good, especially when other people are involved, but you always get to make them. The white god even has angels dedicated to punishing supernatural creatures if they violate free will in certain ways.

That is a bit of an exaggeration, and the Aftershock Primordial is a good example of this. While it did change because of soul hierarchy pruning, it was not forced to do so. It is important to remember that subsouls are actually the deeply held thoughts and feelings of a Yozi given form. What likely happened is a subsoul representing the desire for revenge was born, and through violence and diplomacy alongside the support of the fetich soul, they remade their Primordial with murder and suicide. The Primordial that became Ramethus could have put a stop to it, but it wanted to change so it didn't. From a Primordial perspective, this is introspection, inner-turmoil, and finally becoming the person they want to be.

How Malfeas feels about things of beauty is expressed through Amalion. Ligier is ashamed of Malfeas because Malfeas is ashamed of himself. When the Reclamation started, Malfeas grew a new subsoul that has yet to be born, and that will change him at least a little as well (possibily a lot since there are parralels to his lost fetich with all the queen imagery).

Also, I do not think there is anything stopping a Yozi from getting a truly shitty dice pool on something their Excellency does not apply to by Channeling a Virtue, but it has been a long time since I had system mastery of 2e.

Chungria (as the Exalted Community called him once) was one of the strongest, if final, active Primordial opposition during the Orchid Fountain Era. That bastard did what Autochthon did to himself once with his rearrangement of his Soul-Hirearchy, only with greater propensity towards single-minded vengeance and ego-suicide.

End result? More than a hundred Celestial Exalted died (a loss seldom received barring the Legion-Murdering Incandescence that the Holy Tyrant committed) before they could finally deal with that Primordial. Whether he entered the ranks of the Defeated Yozi or died as a Neverborn, we aren't sure. But Primordials CAN change.

Theirs needs a little push, and a magnitude of personality-murder.

A primordial certainly can change, but it is a slow process to be sure. Third Circles are their intimacies basically, and function as a perfect defense of those intimacies. What they can't change is their theme, that which they declared to infinite chaos they would not change, they would be a static existence. So long as their Fetch soul survives, they will keep to their theme even if the way it manifests changes. Thou it should be noted that a primordial can even go against the theme, thou that is the equivalent of a bout of insanity.

-[x] "So about the laws, I am pretty sure they don't matter to me now, breaking them cannot effect my mind." "This power burned away the side effects of, of what I did." Roll (Intelligence+Occult+excellency)
