just caught up. Geomancy is the no-brainer choice. music notes seems an interesting choice but I kind of like that LQ's approach to music is more organic than a systematic study and not sure we actually need more options on art considering the trouble with the ones we have . skipping the chance of a violet realm craftsman with a focus on instruments from a clan with a huge music investment seems short-sighted . as for the arguments against the flute choice, I agree that we need to do a bit of soul searching to get what exactly does flute means for us clarified. but reading through the update, the eccentric crafter who asks patrons to find the mats themselves and the mention of resonant material seems to be a dead giveaway that meng dan's uncle is someone who specializes the instrument to the owner. and as a violet, he could probably help us get a clearer idea of what flute means to us without impinging on personal boundaries .
also even without a high-level mat violet crafter can give us the best flute for mat we can actually find

Well RIP trade. Even the blank piece of paper the Meng handed us got a handful of votes.

Edit: I'm a music advocate, not trade, just find it a bit sad.

Having someone teach Zhengui the secrets of geomancy? That is just beautiful synergy. Glad that most of the voters agree with that as well.

I would like to add a commentary about these 2 options.

These, together with the trade option, are the ones that also benefit the Reformist Meng faction. Their objective is to expand the presence, relevance and influence of the Weilu tradition in the Emerald Seas. Ling Qi is their way to do so with the Duchess heiress.
They would love for Renxiang's domain to have the aesthetics of the Meng, and for her left hand to immerse in their culture, musical or otherwise.
The Isolationists, on the other hand, want to keep everything for themselves. Which is why they were grumbling for giving us even this much.

To continue on a bit in the overall vein of your post. Doing well with those two options would likely reduce the influence and size of the isolationists (at least those that can be swayed) and increase the size and influence of the reformers.

And doing it with the Meng culture will have a much longer lasting impact than just trade (as theoretically nice as a trade route could be).

I really hope that we can get history for Uncle Skelly and have Meng Dan do the paniced-excited scholar thing as he bursts into a Meng residence/his sect with a sheaf of papers in his hand and he's like 'PRIMARY SOURCE HISTORY! THANKS BE TO LING QI!' And the Meng/Dan's Sect go bonkers with excitement.

100% agree but speaking of aesthetics do not forget that we have a deal with the Wang builders... So maybe mix between Rivendell and dwarf cities... A very interesting combination of styles can come out!! (which at the same time serves to represent the union between the different powers of the Emerald Seas)
