Finally we see Sun Liling again! I like her a lot as a character, even as an antagonist, so I'm glad to see her back in the story.

Vote wise, I'm tending toward Soil Studies for the dice roll mod. Though I wouldn't be opposed to the Elixir either, skipping a whole step of the quest line is a pretty good result as well. Though I think the dice roll mod will pay off more in the long run.

Dunno if it's been commented on but some people are making statements that give me the impression that they are interpreting Soil Studies' benefit as a +10 to development rolls. It is not that. It is not a dice roll modifier or an extra degree of success. Rolls is plural and there is no 'bonus to'. It is 10 additional rolls, whatever that means. It's XP on the early portions of a scaling bar, not a permanent increase to gains. It is, to me, functionally equivalent to 200 Stones, because both are black-box headstarts on developing the fief.

e-just kidding I asked in the discord and apparently it is indeed meant to be +10 to rolls even if it's not worded correctly. It's still just okay to me, but it is better than I thought, probably.

Rare Reagents is also a headstart on a future long and expensive endeavor, but one which will grease Ling Qi's continued smooth ascent in a way more tangible to me than her fief. Resources like what Soil Studies or Stones would yield might help her in such a way as well, but only in a long term. If she wants her breakthrough to be prompt, then she should begin to prepare for it now, not when she is nearing its need.

I prefer Insight Sharing over any other, because Bai Xia Lushen is a character very far from the squeamishness of SV voters and I like him. LQ is part of 'what comes after those who built the foundations no matter the cost' and for that, she needs to take the lessons her predecessors have to give, even if she finds them unpleasant. She can't ignore them. You cannot turn away from pain without disrespecting those who faced it.

That being said, I do recognize that 2 XP is...kind of...small...? ;-; Bro please. It's truly just a crumb...

I have a few problems with rare reagents. For one, we already have enough half-started things on our plate to add another right now, especially with peak green still years away. We don't need to start thinking seriously about Elixir Quest till like G7.

And two, I want the quest to be fully collaborative with Li Suyin/Su ling. If we come in having already made a sizable dent in the project, that changes the dynamic a lot.

I think some of you are really underselling Shenua by a bit. Sun may have been able to kill a peer, but he was fighting a Bai. He was probably preparing for that fight from the moment he decided to rebel. Even if we assume he's not dependent on the temple city to fight at 100%, that doesn't mean he can just walk down the street and kill any old peer level opponent he sees.

He could have been preparing for this fight as well, but Shenua is basically cultivator Batman. Trying to out prep a crafter of her caliber in their own seat of power is just asking to miss something and abruptly go from home invader to surprise reagent delivery.

On the knife sale, I'm thinking breakthrough elixir. Primarily because it'll probably save us a lot of time we can use for other things.

I get why the development bonus is tempting to parts of the thread, but I don't think it'll be that valuable even if it does end up being mechanically significant.

Ling Qi's territory is going to be close to path she helped blaze to the White Sky right? Considering how valuable they apparently find lumber if we position ourselves well then tapping into that the beginnings of that trade route will likely make way more money than anything we can reasonably grow directly in the near future.

We have a green spirit beast focused on Growth, which should give us a leg up on most of our competitors, moreso if we get this assistance from the Bai. Being located out in the mountains may mean that we can make money by selling lumber, but it also means that most things cost more due to transportation problems. Having amazing agriculture could be the first step to being self sufficient in terms of pills, and will definitely help us keep our population fed.

Sun Liling nodded cheerfully. "Other thing's a bit bigger. I need you to pass a message to your Mother. Gramps has decided, since we're all doing this imperial unity thing, he's gonna head south too, clear out our bits of the mountains! So, he's gonna be coming to meet the Duchess so they can talk coordination, yeah? Don't want to step on each other's toes!"

Silence hung in the air at her declaration, and Ling Qi glanced at Gan Guangli, who seemed bewildered too. The less said for Bai Meizhen and the other Bai the better.

"If that is King Sun's wish, I am certain mother will prepare to receive his simulacrum," Cai Renxiang replied, barely missing a beat. It is good to see such cooperation."

"Nah, he's gonna have his alternates overseeing the muster. General Lu's got that mostly in hand. He'll be coming in person. Ask your mother to open a line so we can figure out the date, yeah?" Sun Liling said.
So Sun Shao is likely waging a war of extermination for the insights to advance his cultivation with the aim of ascension, and remind everyone else in the Empire that he is a peerless general by preforming better than the Cai.

Also getting a source for quality iron that avoids needing to go through the trade network of the Empire either by conquering the place, or more likely taking advantage of the waves CRX is making to trade the exotic resources of the WT for a stable source of iron to feed his army. In a sense he is doing what Shenhua did with the Bai as their return into power was something she viewed as inevitable thus she worked it into her plans, and he is doing the same with the Sun inevitably losing enough favor in CP to keep the Bai suppressed, therefore he works the plans of the Cai into his own while using "Imperial Unity" as leverage to insure the Cai cannot refuse.

We're going to be in the mountains, I doubt amazing agriculture is really on the table in the near term. We should invest in getting it up to snuff, but I'm betting that pound per pound we get more per unit of effort out of engaging in the lumber trade where we'll have a competitive advantage.

The mechanics of this and what it actually means seem opaque to me. While I get that the choice is called "soil studies" but does that mean that whatever bonus is gotten out of this is dedicated to agriculture/land quality? Ie. are the 10 bonus rolls specifically for something about the soil? What do 10 bonus rolls mean in general?
