...Well...The Melkut Ymaryn is unusual in how un-martial it is. Most of us IRL are more militarist than the Melkut Ymaryn.
Why do I see Ymaryn scholars looking at foreign books wondering why the hell everyone is so obsessed about war?

We can only do unfavourable trade deals with the Khem due to their higher prestige and given the objections of the Peacocks, I really doubt that will help with our internal tensions. If anything, it will make them worse.

I don't agree with this logic as the traders are a split between Peahens and Peacocks with a lean towards the latter. Antagonising them is more likely to push them towards the Peacocks and therefore strengthen the Peacocks on top of giving the Peacocks a valid talking point about the Peahen king.I am going more for narrative effects here.
A trade deal, even unfavorable one, means more contact between our policies, merchants and guilds who depend on new goods. Such ties do make it harder to go to war.
This said, it will anger the peacocks, but I think also weaken them.
And I would consider a combo loan/trade deal to the Khem at the same time. They get a net treasury at no cost, we get potentially 2 opinion with them. They have next to no reason to say no.

At what point could we start a project to help the merchants get sailing ships in response to the canal?
Not the same merchants, so it wouldn't help. The problem is these are the people who move stuff around within Ymar. We can't do without them or our economy grinds to a halt and people starve. At what point could we start a project to help the merchants get sailing ships in response to the canal?
That depends, is it *a* button or *THE* button?Congratulations. You have found a button.
How did button pushing work out in PoC again?

What "button pushing" are you referring to in PoC? It's been a while since I read through it so my memory's a bit foggy
Besides 2 influence and a treasury.A way to consistently gain some desired resource without any apparent cost beyond spending actions.
If we take too many. We could be giving them the power to obliterate our economy by throwing us in the red.
I thought this wasn't on the table because Rus tribes are too decentralized?-[X] Authority: Build Ties: Common Ground can be found anywhere, since people are always people. Simply by dealing forthrightly with people, and addressing their concerns in an honest manner or telling them why you can't, you can improve their opinion of you. (10%, 4 years, +1 Opinion)

We were told that the other standard diplo actions aren't available because of their decentralization, but Build Ties explicitly is possibleI thought this wasn't on the table because Rus tribes are too decentralized?
