The Path Unending (A Cultivation Quest)

I'm not opposed to leveling WC, but I hate missing out on so many cool materials for one phase of a tech we aren't even likely to use in the Deeps (Since friendly fire is a thing and we'll have a big group)

We haven't bought any mats since before the Duel with Jin... and it just sucks to keep seeing cool stuff show up only to ignore it.

Agreed. There's a lot we could potentially do with the Life mats. A healing charm might be possible, but we could also probably think of something else. We could also refine the antlers to get more Force anam for the axe, if that's how we want to do things. I wanted that sapling last time especially, and we can't be sure it'll be here again next time.

[X] Plan Kong Zhi, Warrior Crafter

I'd personally prefer a couple of different materials, but the ones in this plan are interesting enough. And I do want materials. Last time KZ did a shopping run he expressed frustration at not being able to buy any.

I'm not sure about buying up costly ingredient specifically for a Healing Charm at this stage. We do have a commission to work on.
And if we wanted to work on a Healing Charm, it would be an excellent opportunity to involve a certain (sometimes overbearing) friend, who would likely be able to make some good suggestions for anam combinations and formulations, and would likely be interested in being involved in the crafting process.

Grabbing a bunch of those cheap materials would be potentially useful should there be a sudden Charm Emergency (whatever that might be). Things like the Brass Knocker, the Shellrat Hide, the Teeth of a Mauler Ape, the Hailstone, the Freshly-Hewn Obsidian, the Scales from a Lightbridge Trout and the Wool of a Verdant Ewe are all ingredients that KZ can easily work with.

Random thought: Should we ever get any spare time, it might be worth going back to see Shen Guanyu again. A refiner that is working in charm crafting might have some interesting insights regarding charm crafting, and KZ could exchange some tips on how the Kong family does charm crafting. Shen Guanyu might be struggling due to an overly theoretical/analytical approach to the Art. I've generally found that teaching another can help clarify things in your own head as well. And it appears that we don't spend enough time in the Creator's Garden.

The point of the market is that there will always be cool mats, even if some go away other cool ones appear.

[X] Plan Kong Zhi, Warrior Crafter

I have to say, while I eventually think that leveling WC is a good goal, I think that resources spent towards it at the moment are not the most effective means of pursuing it. It costs 12 points to level WC for its current level- and it takes 3 pills. Given that Kong Zhi can only consume 4 pills in an action, and that scales per level have been somewhere about 1.5x (if I recall correctly for leveling BSoA), that means that as there are 5 full levels of WC to increase, we are looking at over a full weeks of actions to fully level WC using the current method, and the price is at least double that which it would take to level BSoA, given the two types of pills needed, and the fact that we can only source level 1 pills at this time.

Unrelated, I really liked this chapter! I'm somewhat controversial, but anytime I get to see a chapter in a cultivation world where things dont go perfectly for the MC, it makes me feel better about the genre. Plus a look at what normal crafters do through the lens of Zhi's somewhat lofty disdain is a great way of both getting a smidge of world building, and also revealing some imperfections in his character, which makes him more interesting as an MC.

While it's true that there won't be too many opportunities to use Warhound's Cry on the expedition, there's a nonzero chance it will be useful. There is a 100% chance that crafting materials will not be useful in the Deeps though, so that's kind of basis of my reasoning.

All this talk about friendly-fire and having Nokai around as the superior WC user seems a little too optimistic to me as well. Maybe I'm just pessimistic after how some of our recent adventuring endeavors have gone, but I think it's good to plan for worst-case scenario. If we get separated from the group, WC will be vital to holding off enemies (with the added bonus of alerting the party to our location). If Nokai can't come along (she hasn't said yes yet--I don't expect her to say no, but...) then our abilities might still be called upon for whatever reason.

Nah, we're using 10 pills/5 actions to level BSA and WC compared to 8 pills/4 actions for just BSA.

After a lot of thought, I am switching my vote. Our WC having friendly fire and Nokai hopefully joining us with her more advanced WC convinced me.

Or not. I am too indecisive...

Ah, now I understand. I still think I'd rather have the extra action next turn. I was sad we didn't get to go interact with Mo Hanying this turn.
It would be nice to check in on her, but it also doesn't do much for us. We can't invite her on the expedition since we've locked in Mei Daiyu. I don't think she will be too(?) angry with us for being absent so long given what we've been dealing with (having our limbs involuntarily mutated, training said limbs, grinding for our sigil...).

OTOH, she might not be very happy about us choosing Mei Daiyu's help over her's. That's one unpleasant conversation I don't mind putting off another week...

Why would Mo care if we recruit Mei? I doubt Mo cares that much about her, tbh.

[X] Plan Conservative Purchasing

This makes sense to me. Saving points for later when we have more privileged access is more efficient in the long run.

There will be more and better shinies to come.

@Van Ropen we totally forgot that Shouxi offered to let us pay in installments! We only need to pay 16 points up front!!!

And as for installments… yes. I could make that work. Half down would cover my materials if not my time; I would be willing to wait until after you return from the Deeps to set a deadline to receive the rest."

Then 16 points after the Deeps, and we still have two installments of points coming in from Xu Yun!

Meaning both of our plans have 16 points / 3 talents left unaccounted for! With that in mind, would you be willing to add the life mats to your plan? Just so we don't miss out on this great exchange rate?

Oh yeah, dope. Lemme just double check the math.

It was less that it didn't do anything for us, and more that I really liked the prompt. But I get that it doesn't work with our current plan. I just love how uncomfortable Mo Hanying make Zhi. It's some of Vesuvius's best writing in this quest, with the ability to feel the palpable mirth in Mo Hanying's perception of Zhi. Plus I really want Hanying's reaction to the new limbs.

[] Mo Hanying has asked for you. Apparently she has plans coming up that she thinks you would greatly enjoy, and she invites you to attend her at your leisure.
