Why do people want to finish Warhounds Cry? That seems to be the main difference between the two leading plans, but we can only barely finish BSA before our trial to the deeps, we can't take enough pills to finish WC aswell. And as a Beast/Sound Art, it is very off-brand from our core - and we will almost certainly get access to better techniques when we are 8th circle, from either better library access or from Elder Siani himself. It has 6 phases, and the materials we are buying is only enough to get us to phase 3 - We'll have to sink even more money and sect points into finishing it if we want to integrate it. It's a off-element Art we can't train much before the Deeps and can't integrate without a buttload of cash better spent on Time/Steel/War arts we can train for free, or more crafting materials. And it's the main reason to vote Plan BSA and WC over Plan Kong Zhi, Warrior Crafter. There's no requirement to fully complete all our arts, guys. We can just leave it be.

With the confirmation that mastering a tech raises the related stat, mastering all of our techs is a must.

While we can't master Warhounds Cry before the deeps, when we DO master it, we will (most likely) gain a +1 to our Resolve Stat, which will not only raise our Skill Cap for all our Resolve Related skills like Cycling but will increase our Anam threshold from 18 to 21.

Sure but why master Warhounds Cry in particular, just because we unlocked it by chance in a social action? If we had a list of arts to master, would we choose it? We're spending ~20 points just to get it to rank 3/6, and it's only going to get more pricy from there. We can instead spend the same amount of money unlocking a new Resolve art from a library - one using a Aman type we have native access to, Time/War/Steel/Smoke/Fire/Air. It'll be cheaper in the long run (so more crafting materials), similar action cost, and actually more useful to our long-term combat prospects than a Beast/Sound art that doesn't match our style at all.

It's not like any other suitable techs to raise our Resolve (and thus our anam capacity) are just going to fall into our laps, and it fills the Scholar technique part of our arsenal as well as AOE. And mastering it doesn't preclude getting other techs, and we can get those techs to raise other stats besides Resolve. Why pay to double up on something we already have?

On the contrary, we already got WC for free, while we would have to buy a hypothetical new scholar technique, and those don't come cheap.

Moveover, we would be starting from scratch with it, and there is no guarantee that it would be of better quality compared to WC.

Narratively, WC has a far bigger weight than its hyothetical alternative, as it was a big deal for Nokai to offer it and for Zhi to accept it.

Finally, long-term wise, it doesn't really matter. I expect Zhi to find and develop a lot of different techniques as time passes by and he grows in power and knowledge.
Whether a single technique is fully optimized is meaningless.

1. It was free.
2. Its our only aoe.
3. Nokai best girl.

But we have to pay to train the damn thing - that's the point! We got it for free, but if we want to train it we need to keep shelling out on pills! While we could instead go the other way around - pay an up-front cost to be able to pick a technique that A - fits our role in combat better B - is actually free to train and isn't dependent on the whims of sect points and our allowance. Or invest in crafting materials, make charms, and sell those for more points to do both of these options. WC doesn't help us in the short-term, and in the medium term is still costly to benefit from. Why not spend our resources in other places to get the same benefit?

We're good up on Resolve right now as it is. A stat value of 4 is nothing to sneeze at, and we can take care of the issue later

But do we even know if WC will raise Resolve? I've heard chatter that's suggested that we'd only get a stat boost for a tech if our current stat matched the stat requirements for the tech for exactly, to prevent us from train spamming Level 1 techs. WC's requirement is Level 3.

We'd have to pay for a technique from the Archives if we bought one there as well, and those aren't free. A mere Grade 1 Fire tech costs 30 points. Warhound's Cry is Grade 3, so getting an equivalent tech, even with elements that match what we have available, would cost much more. We'd likely end up paying just as much if not more to buy a "more suitable" replacement technique than we'd end up paying to master WC. What you're proposing isn't likely to be a cost savings.

[X] Plan BSA and WC

Voting this because it spends less on materials. We're about to move up a circle, so I expect we'll get better material access next week anyhow.

I might be blind, but has this been mentioned in the thread anywhere? Maybe this is a question for @Vesvius. Are there level requirements for getting stat upgrades from tech integration?

While the thought of leveling both our techs is tempting, will we even have enough time to level up both BSA and WC?

Assuming we follow through with the BSA/WC plan, that's 4 actions to use up all the BSA pills, and 2 to use up the WC pills. Add in 2 actions for the Deeps run, and that leaves us only 1 action left to take care of any extra necessities we need, like training our limbs.
Personally, I don't want to immediately follow up on WC - I agree that continuing to work on our limbs before we head into the deeps would be preferable. I'd just rather invest points into something I know we'll want to do (train up WC) rather than spend about the same amount of points on mats for speculative purposes.

Given the current state of KZ's adaptation to his alterations, I do consider those to be the biggest liability for the expedition.
While I'm sure that the exercises are perfectly designed, I don't think that KZ has enough Athletics skill to pull off enough improvements with just 1 action. Perhaps inviting Nokai would help? She appears to have some experience with using claws. I'm sure that a bit of humiliation will inspire KZ to do better. :)

I strongly suggest at least 1 action of working on those limb exercises, with Nokai invited to help.
Whether further actions towards attempting to overcome the Dex penalty are worth doing is entirely up for debate.

We don't have enough pills for 2 Phases of WC.

The Grade 2 Beast elixir and one of the Sound Pills will let us go up one Phase. But we'll need at least one more Grade 1 Beast Pill for the next phase
I did not say we'd go up 2 phases
but we can only use 2 drugs per action
we bought 3 for WC
Unless we can split cycling into anam techniques (like one action letting us put wood into BSA and sound into WC)
we're going to need to spend 2 action on wc to get the full benefit.
