Threads Of Destiny(Eastern Fantasy, Sequel to Forge of Destiny)

Doesn't CRX have to work to dispell our stuff? It seems strange that Ji Rong would be able to easily do what CRX works at. Plus we would work with our spirits, like we said we would, and get to use our strong field effect arts if were worked defensively. I read defensive as hanging back and setting up our fields along side our spirits and their fields. Offensive reads like we try to charge foward solo and take him out with some art? FSS I guess would be the one to focus on. Doesn't feel like our normal fighting techinque.

If the Shishigui Kennel Brute is any indication his build is still about lightning striking his opponents like he tried against us. He basically has our teleport which he uses to land lightning punches. Fast, hard and accurate with some Dispel and probably other things we don't know about.

But we have West Wind Step.
When used, the user avoids all effects of B rank or lower, regardless of potency. This includes effects which normally cannot be avoided, such as field effects, as the user scatters, rematerializing with Far range of their current position. When the user takes this action, they may attempt a special dispel using derived stealth as their attribute on a single negative effects currently affecting them and if successful apply it to an enemy within Close Range.

When using this technique allies within close range of the users destination receive a significant bonus to Physical and Spiritual avoid, and reduce the damage of all incoming effects by one rank until the users next turn.
Any time he shoots off like a lightning bolt into our face we'll just teleport away before he hits us. Avoid B rank tech and then -1 rank damage for one turn. SNR has a technique that outright makes us immune to C rank damage for a duration, perfect if he tries to beat us with a barrage of weaker punches like unarmed types usually do, and the Art also has its own A rank block. He'd need to Dispel our defensive effects to get a hit in while our offensive and control effects mount, all the while all of our Techs are ridiculously hard to Dispel since we've shored up our own weakness.
All activated music arts gain one 'shield' charge, when a technique would be dispelled, this shield charge is removed instead. A technique must be reactivated to regain the shield charge. Dispels of A rank or higher adjusted for potency may ignore this effect.
When targeted by a technique which would dispel an effect on or cast by the user, they may activate this talisman to absorb a hostile dispel up to three times per combat. The user may only absorb techniques of B rank or below as modified for potency. Absorbed techniques cause none of their effects. Each technique absorbed grants a charge increasing the Talisman's resist bonus by 5.
We can avoid taking anything weaker than S rank damage from the first Action on, meaning he'll have to get up to some shenanigans to stop us from reaching our capacity. Not unlikely but ten months later we're still pretty good at toughing out aggression.

Stars exploded in [Ji Rong's] vision as the back of [Sun Liling's] knuckles met his lips and he flew backward, slamming painfully into one of the trees that lined the path.

"The guy who got stuffed in a box doesn't get to talk like that," he groaned as she spoke, blinking away the spots in his vision to find her looming over him. He grunted as he foot impacted his chest, pinning him to the tree.

...

"It means we're focusing on the tournament," she replied, lifting her foot away. Some part of him felt vaguely disappointed.
P.S. If we don't end this fight by stepping on him with Call to Ending I will never forgive Yrs.

I vote we go defensive purely because we just recently promised our spirits that we would be including them in the battle more instead off going off on our own again. I don't want to strain our relationship with Zhengui just after we patched things up with him, and this is the perfect opportunity to show that we won't be breaking our promise to him like he thought we would.

I think both defensive and offensive are valid options, defensive is predictable, but also our strength; he will almost certainly have a counter, but if that counter isn't enough it's almost a guaranteed win in my eyes.

In the end it was the idea that we should put our money where our mouth is on the issue of our spirits that fully convinced me. We've just spent a month learning defensive with Zhengui, and we have promised to include him in our fights and strategies more often, so, I'm all for going defensive and making the best use of his strengths.

Have we seen Ji rong little bro in action? Had it broken to third yet?
Ji Rong's little bro is in Green, he wouldn't have been allowed that deep into the Corrupted Caverns if he wasn't, but it was a close thing. As for seeing him in action... I think we saw a little bit during the fortress fight in the Corrupted Caverns. It's a lot of lightning.

At first I was not sure about doing offensive or defensive strategy, just because sudden offense would be unexpected and could bring good results.

But than I thought about it some more: What is our goal here? Beating him would be great, but far more important is to actually test how our build is working, especially collaboration with our spirits, since this is what we developed over the last months.
Besides, we promised our spirits to work together, Hanyi spent a month to invent something new. I want to give them time to shine, and going offensive would prevent that.

Furthermore, the defensive style is something we will use in our future fights and the tournament, so if there are some weaknesses, I want us to discover it here and now, while the stakes are still rather low.

Now I'm not sure how we should fight, but I think we need start by paying this guy rent. Seriously we have basically taken over part of his brain. From what we have seen on screen he was mad about losing to us last year he spent time training arts to counter our dream stuff. Which I would like to point has a risk of changing who you are as a person at this stage of development. At this point every art can leave you with a deep lession. It seems silly to risk changing who you are over a petty grudge. Then he complained about us so much that his boss had to come to a Cai party, that she probably hates, to ask her to ask us to behave. Did we even mention him once to CRX? Ever? I can't really think of it happening. Hell the only time he came up was that time we saw him the library. Yet he's been pissed off at us since. And he then went and challenged us to a duel, and I'm betting this wasn't exactly boss approved. At this point we've basically setup a new cultivation site in his head. Poor guy. Also, he's kinda a dumb ass.
I expect that next year when someone asks her what Ji Rong is doing Ling Qi will respond with a "...who?" :V

@yrsillar:
Is the unawakened domain supposed to lose the bonus to health and spiritual armour between bond ranks 2 and 3?

Also is it meant to lose the bonus to health forever after Bond 2? It seems somewhat odd.
    • +15 to Speed and Initiative.
    • +10 to Health and Spiritual Armor.
    • Immunity to Compulsion or Illusion effects which would cause action against allies of Bond 3 or higher (Bypassed by effects of rank C or higher, adjusted for potency).
  • Bond 3
    • +25 to Speed and Initiative.
    • Immunity to Compulsion or Illusion effects which would cause action against allies of Bond 3 or higher (Bypassed by effects of rank B or higher, adjusted for potency).
  • Bond 4
    • +25 to Speed and Initiative, +15 to Spiritual Avoid.
    • +1 rank to Spiritual Avoid, Spiritual Armor and Combat Perception(Boosted Rank cannot exceed Ling Qi's).
    • Immunity to effects which reduce speed, initiative or avoid(Bypassed by effects of Rank C or higher, adjusted for potency).
    • Immunity to Compulsion or Illusion effects which would cause action against allies of Bond 3 or higher (Bypassed by effects of rank A or higher, adjusted for potency).

I mostly wanna do the Defensive one because I want to see Laughing Flight of the Wind Thief utilized at its fullest
Hm. I was going to say that seems more likely to be used in the offensive tactic as it would be used extensively by Ling Qi to keep in his face, but it occurred to me that if JR gets somewhere between a 7-9 on his domain weapon ramp up it might be used in an air dance.

Actually simply getting the chance to see what his domain weapon does at high levels would be useful by itself if the inter-sect junior division group formed by CRX ends up fighting another group led by Liling, which would be useful if for no other reason than giving LQ's spirits the chance to come up with counters for it.

Moratorium's up.

Winning this fight is actually fairly irrelevant in the long run compared to improving our abilities. We are fundamentally a defensive fighter, why shouldn't we practice that against a ramp/rushdown brawler and see how it works and if our current line up of arts has any weaknesses?
I was convinced that we should practice our normal strategy here, because if our normal strategy fails against some countermeasure of his, that is useful information for us going forward in preparing for fights that actually matter. Let's go full Yin and see how good a job we do at that.

If we have holes in our defenses, I'd like to know now so we can fix them. Three cheers for spars, eh?

Do we have stats on ji rong from info gathering?

I just want to take our all and go against his all. I really like JR as a character, i respect him, see him as our total opposite and rival. I want to take him at our best, not just take him. Its what will show the most respect to him and to ourselves.

Offensive rushes are not our strength. Trying might surprise him, but only for the amount of time it'd then take for him to smack us for the presumption. Defensive focus is still our best bet considering our entire build revolves around it.
