I lost my ability to discord again so I'm moving what I wanted to say there here.
So! This domain conflict is super delicious because generally when something happens that causes a character to reexamine their worldview and amend their behavior, they get to change. We call this 'character development'. In this particular context though, character development is only allowed to bend so far: a monster does not become a good man, and Ling Qi will still seek the path of thorns if on it lies something of beauty and value. This is a 'Way.'
The current conflict with her Way stems from her FVM insight 'Though a path might be hard and lonely, it has worth if you can present something of beauty to those you care for at the end.' and her advanced insight which boils down to 'a family is made up of members with their own thoughts and feelings.'
You've heard the expression, 'beauty is in the eye of the beholder?' Well, with these two insights operating in tandem, Ling Qi has just realized that what she considers beautiful (saving Xiulan using self-sacrifice (a hard and lonely road)) everyone else in her family considers scary and horrible. It is self-sacrifice taken to the level of self-indulgence. No one who loves you wants to see you hurt yourself for their sake.
But because of her insight, that is exactly what Ling Qi is primed to do. This is literally a part of who she is. She can't stop doing this. If she does, she loses her Way.
So, the challenge becomes reconciling FVM's insight with the rest of who she is.
I'm not sure how this will be done. I'm interested to see how people would seek to do it though. Defining beauty, perhaps? Redefining lonely? Redefining family? There are plenty of ways, just nothing that leaps out as a quick fix.
