Taking the Mickey: A Save Disney Quest

Damn, children grew up in the cold war with the spectre of Nuclear war being what would cause the extinction of the human race, now children in the 80's are going to grow up with the spectre of dying because of the pollution and greenhouse gasses.

This is going to motivate so many to enter into politics, this is the kind of stuff that galvanizes the population and inspires generations to enter into the public stage.

Hey now... We haven't caused the downfall of the Soviet Union yet. There's a chance that it could go bellyup worse than OTL, and the children of the 1980s get BOTH: Nuclear War AND Climate Catastrophe. What a time to be alive.

I'm guessing cyberpunk and apocalypse settings are gonna be even more popular.
Hey that's true! Man, the Terminator franchise it's going to be even more popular than before.

By the way, anyone think we should be going for more movies that are out of Disney's comfort zone? As in, perhaps movies that are more like Alien, Terminator, Blade Runner, the Fifth Element, etc?

War... War never changes... also Disneyland... but they renovate like all the time. Disneybucks are still worth something after all

That might be hard to do... Roy would be against I'd think, so that puts Disney out. I can't remember if we own another production house like Miramax... which... DAMMIT... Weinstein....

Time to wiki walk 1980s... or talk to Spielberg about creating a new live action division... Maybe he and his friend David Geffen could make a studio for live action projects... I'm sure someone like Jeff can make something there for riskier animation titles.

Spielberg, Katzenberg and Geffen... I'm sure NOTHING will go wrong. <blinks innocently>

but seriously let's talk to Spielberg and Lucas, talent and special effects house, dynamite combination and I think Spielberg wants to try and make a production house around this time

Collaborating with Lucas, even if only for the Star Wars films (can we do that? I mean, Fox still has the distribution rights) would be amazing. And hopefully help in increasing our exposure for Sci-Fi. I really think that expanding Disney towards more Sci-Fi movies will truly help the company.

Plus, it will help if we try for Marvel movies once we acquire them later on.

Aside from that, i really want us to get some experience in eastern animation at some point. As well as become the home of some of the best animated cartoons like Avatar: The last Airbender, Phineas and Ferb, etc.

All of the Original Star Wars Films are done (77, 80, 83)... Right now I think Spielberg's working on Roger Rabbit, and Empire of The Sun... maybe something else. Lucas... well Lucasfilm is working on Howard the Duck... yeah...

... I don't think dice can save THAT film. Also if things go well with Man of Steel we might wind up in a better position to handle DC Comics than Marvel.

However even if Star Wars is at Fox... well Indy is at Paramount, maybe Michael would love twisting the knife at Stanley Jaffe who took the job he wanted. Our Michael might not be that vindictive... but Jeff might be.

...Fuck. I forgot about that abomination to all things Marvel.

I do not want us to deal with DC. They have their own home at Warner, and we must then become the new home for Marvel.

Marvel all the Way!!!

(I'm a Marvel fan).

I was thinking more for the when the Prequels are made, but that's fine.

What do you think of the other stuff about animation? About getting more experience in Anime and being the home for some of the best cartoons that were made?

Difficult, Japanese anime companies are notoriously prickly. We have gotten extremely lucky with Nintendo (like seriously amazingly lucky). We could probably start by offering to help distribute some Japanese animated shows or films. Maybe a photo-toonami bloc on Disney Channel after 11 PM to 2 AM that airs "International Cartoons" maybe distribute some Japanese films but we'd have to profit share... which the Japanese companies won't like... and the board won't like us going halvesies or "encouraging competition" from Japan. A Disney Channel "Late Night International Cartoons" might be the best way of introducing a few anime series into public consciousness. Let's be honest teens will be the best demographic to appeal to for this.

True enough. Then I guess we can attract enough animators who are inspired by Anime to work for Disney then. I really want to try and get Avatar: The Last Airbender for our channel, not to mention that becoming the first to air anime will make us look like we are ahead of the curve in that regard when the Anime and Manga invasion happens.

Well everything starts out small... We put on anime to fill up dead air on Disney Channel from 11PM to 3AM and we could wind up with success, just throw a bunch of animes or European cartoons and see what sticks. Better than rerunning old Disney Shorts for 5 hours I suppose.

I love this idea and want more. i mean, even if we start creating new cartoons like Darkwing Duck, Chip'n Dale, Hercules and Aladdin, we will still new and exciting cartoons for future generations, including Anime, although i don't see the appeal of European Cartoons. I saw a couple of those back in the day, and they didn't seem to be anything special (with the exception of Asterix).
It sounds like you guys are making Disney Adult Swim and I fully approve of this.
I think that taking ideas that worked for rival networks and making them our own is an excellent idea.

Say, what do you think of trying to create the Power Rangers? They are not out of what Disney tries to make in the end, right?

If we do want to pursue all these series ideas we should maybe see if we can get some actions dedicated to the TV section to make that easier. Or writes some Omakes and hope for free actions. :D

Looking back we maybe shoulda let John Cooke in on office politics if we wanted to do so much for the TV section.

Crap...I'm going to have to research the Power Rangers aren't I?

You poor soul... there's a reason I wasn't bringing up Power Rangers, and it's probably best if we let history play out there. But if people are looking for some anime that could be useful for late night programming. Dirty Pair, Lupin III, G-Force, uh... Gundam, Space Battleship Yamato

There is a chance that we might own one of the most iconic and profitable franchises since the 90's to today. And I'll take it.

..But dear God, I hope that I only have to research the studio who originally got the distribution rights.

You forgot Robotech and Trigun.

We could also look into Dragonball, Sailor Moon, Astro Boy, Ranma when it comes out... And Voltron of course.

Uh... Trigun came out in 1997...
Well yeah. We are planning to do this in the 90's right? Or do you mean we should start doing it by the late 80's and the beginning of the 90's?

If so Trigun is out, but Robotech is still in. It's some of the best anime I've ever seen.

We must become the first to show these series. These are classics!

I wouldn't mind doing some more adult stuff. If you want something along the lines of Simpsons/Family Guy, there was an independent production I saw recently called The Animatronicans which was about a bunch of Disney Animatronics living together as housemates, which I think would make for a great premise for an animated sitcom.
