Threads Of Destiny(Eastern Fantasy, Sequel to Forge of Destiny)

The town had very few cultivator residents, there was a Sect Overseer which the mortal governor and ministers answered too, a man at the fifth stage of the third realm, and a bare handful of early third realm officers in the hundred and fifty strong permanent garrison of first and second realm soldiers.

I don't know if ~7% of the population is "very few" Ling Qi.

Interesting though. This is our first explicit look at cultivator population ratios. Slightly higher than I expected, but it also seems like this town is the main garrison for this region. The other minor villages probably have much fewer cultivators.

Also: stop tsun-ing at the poor boy Xiulan..

Well, again, I believe that there is a distinction that is being made between the residents and the military garrison.

The residents would be those who participated in the economy and didn't involve themselves in military matters and the military would be the garrison seeking to protect the town.

Alternatively, it's quite possible that Ling Qi has absorbed some... unfortunate biases. I know that there has been some mention in the story that people aren't truly considered cultivators until they are in the third realm.

So... Having 7,5% of the total population to be cultivators is below average? Apparently the Empire is very good at mass-producing Reds and Yellows...

This is the front line, just a few kilometers from the edges of imperial territory. It is also the local capital and the nexus point of all its economical value. I doubt the rest of the region is as heavily defended and the empire at large probably spreads its soldiers far wider still. But it wouldn't surprise me if they were that common, red spirit stones are expensive but not that expensive and a five to ten percentage mix of both soldiers and civilian cultivators seems possible.

I feel like we haven't been bold enough recently. Let's volunteer for the front line where the action is hottest.

Remember, sometimes it's not about doing what's best for the group, but about being a badass protagonist undergoing harrowing challenges.

Well, in order to facilitate some discussion, I'm going to promote going and defending the river villages rather than being on the Frontline or as a messenger.

First off, defending widely separated villages seems like the type of work we are more likely to do as the baron of a fief. Our holdings, likely, won't be concentrated in a single location and this is some prime experience to be had under the purview of the Sect.

Secondly, while we are fast and can respond to situations quickly, or spirits are not. I want this to be a learning experience for them as well, and I feel that they can learn and experience a lot more as part of a defensive network for the villages. Even if that is to operate independently from us for a bit as they secure a village from follow up attacks while we deal with another village close by.

Thirdly, I think this is the type of work I would like to see more of in the narrative. I want Ling Qi to be out there defending the Empire. While the facilitation of messages is extremely important, I think that I would like to see some more action.

Plus I don't think we've seen Ling Qi defending a static position in quest yet.

Well if I break down the options as I understand them

[X] The river villages.

I think I prefer this option over the others, I wouldn't worry about actively looking for trouble and getting to see action too much either, pretty sure trouble will be coming to us this time

edit: with some new information, approval voting
[X] The front line.

[X] The front line.

Because I'm tired of always playing it safe and taking "calculated risks", I want to have some fun and take actual risks and I don't want to miss out on any potential plot threads like we did with the barbarians last time we scouted.

Plus I want to see a Cyan level Cultivator kick ass and take names just so Ling Qi can get MOTIVATED!

[X] The front line.

You know what, I agree. We are here to impress, to learn, and to turn ourselves into something amazing. Anything that threatens a Cyan will be deadly for us, but that is part of the challenge of pushing your limits and stretching out to take the stars.

If there is anything that would be dangerous to a Cyan, we could tip the scales in her advantage for a more favorable resolution. Even the small can affect the paths of the mighty.

Let's do the responsible thing and redo the plot of seven samurai, except no samurai, and only four people.
