As An Eagle Flies (A House Arryn Quest)

[X]A Forign Visit: The Esteemed Eminence, the Sealord of Bravoss has arrived to negotiate a trading agreement. And of course, you need to be on your best behavior. But you feel… uneasy about the whole thing. Like something is going to happen.

I'm actually hoping we might squire for Uncle Bronze Yohn. Make multi-kingdom connections in KL during our fostering and then return to the Vale for squiring to make connections with our cousins and other bannermen. Yohn was noted to be a good commander and warrior in his fostering option iirc.

@Magoose, do we take part in the tournament if we choose or do we just partake in the festivities.
You can actually take part as a mystery knight... or help out another one of our friends be a mystery knight. As for the festivities, you will be taking part in them.
Also is there a character sheet?
Front page.

Well we're fostering kings landing, and we're ranking up pretty fast.

Okay now that does sound like fun, if this option wins, and look like it will, then I wholeheartedly vote that we suit up Steffon or Nymeria cause our combat score is shit.
Ah thanks, can you threadmark that?

[X]King Aegon's Feast: Aegon is hosting a feast for many lords of the Crownlands, and is holding a meeting for a potential idea and founding of a new institution, an idea from Lord Tytos… Something about a bank needing more investors.

(Jon POV)

Perhaps you were a bit to hastey in his plan, no matter. You had everything you needed for the entire scheme to work. That was, the seven willing, that no one had caught onto the scheme.

But it mattered little how much you prayed, only that your action was well played, and your role, perfect.

You marched into the iron bank and made it absolutely clear that things were going to happen, and that meetings needed to be arranged.

The magistrate was not happy to see you when you finally arrived. "Ah, Lord Arryn, welcome back to the Iron Bank."

"I have little time to exchange pleasantries lord Magistrate, my king wishes for the immediate withdrawal of all funds that are stored and kept in the vaults belonging to the Iron throne and the kingdom of Westeros, along with the vaults of every Vale lord who had opened and operated an account, including my own." You than quickly handed over the letter from Aegon, and hoped by all the Seven hells that this man wasn't going to say no.

All the gold from Westeros, invested into the bank for safe keeping suddenly taken away by the bank because the Lord's and the King himself had a plan…

Wars were started for less. And you would be quite happy to burn this shit hole to the ground. The months of agonizing planning, waiting and networking to get the gold, and his objective safely to Westeros, and into the court of King's Landing, was quite infuriating.

Aegon's plan however, was worth all the trouble. Because if the bank was doing what you thought it was doing… well, you might have to kill your way out.

And you didn't trust your odds, not with only twenty men, ten ships and an ocean away from any reinforcements.

The magistrates face looked white as snow as the letters were set down. "I am perplexed as to why His Grace would so suddenly withdraw his assets and the assets of his vassals. Would care to supply the reason why Your Grace wishes to do so?"

The look on that bastards face was almost as priceless as the first time you beat Yohn in a wrestling match when you were a child. "It's quite simple. He has lost faith in the Iron Bank to protect his investments and his gold."

There was a frown. "And how has he lost faith in our institution?"

You smiled and leaned forward. "He read my report, of how you almost fell for a fraud, claiming to be the representative of His Grace, Aegon the Fifth. He saw it as a clear violation of trust and he feels unsure if such a matter would be prevented, had his valuables kept in court had stayed in court, rather than being sent here."

The magistrate had beads of sweat dripping down his face. "His Grace clearly misunderstands the situation of the incident in question."

You leaned back. "I requested, multiple times, for the identity of the party who tried to withdraw the contents of the vault. Your institution, refused to hand over the name of the party. His Grace, cannot allow such secrecy when some of his most treasured artifacts are nearly stolen. He wished for justice be brought upon them, but you refused to act." You stated. "So, he will act first."

You turned around. "You are making a terrible mistake, Lord Arryn. You and your king." The magistrate said.

"Is that a threat Lord Magistrate?" You asked as you tighten your hand into a fist.

The magistrate stopped moving, as if he froze in place by fear.

"I thought so." You replied as you walked out of the room. "We will need the withdrawals back to King's Landing in time, but a fleet commanded by His Grace's Master of Ship's will arrive in the city shorly to load the gold to be ferried back to Westeros. It would be best not to lose a single Dragon before they arrive… Stormlanders do not think kindly of thieves."

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

You met with the guard. "Is everything there Balish?"

"Yes Lord Arryn. And might I remind you that if the Bank were to learn of your treachery, they will try to rectify it." He stated.

"I am not worried about them, at least right now. Now, are they all there?" You asked.

"All the ledgers, bank records, everything, all the records of the men who tried to rob your king. Along with your kings… Whatever they are." The man replied.

Good. "I take it that any payment would not be acceptable."

"Just a favor Lord Arryn." The guard stated. "My son is in Westeros, a boy with his mother in Gulltown. Please… let him have a better life than I have."

You nodded. "I will see to it."

You walked away, with the chest in hand.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

You couldn't believe it… How in blazes did they almost get away with… with stealing millions of Gold Dragons.

The Blackfyres would have much to answer for. But now… now you would have to get home.

Speak to Arstan… and prepare.

You removed the dagger from the assassin's throat. Bastard trying to hide among your men... you almost didn't catch him either, until you saw the mans feet.

It was quite hard to hide clean feet on a deck of a tar covered ship.

AN: Enjoy

Can the King or Lord Paromount actually leagally withdraw their vassal's accounts because if this wasn't discussed people will be pissed big time.

Welp our dad's a badass. Also the Iron Bank has fucked itself, this gets out the more lords will pull out. Either they just gave the gold away without proper authority given, which makes them incompetent or they knew and are supporting the Blackfyres, which kinda ruins your neutral reputation which is key to a successful bank.

When I read "Baelish", I freaked out for a minute there; then I remembered that it's Petyr's father Jon's talking to. Also, wow dad, dem' rolls...

No, the event in question was an unknown third party wanting to withdraw certain items and artifacts from Aegon's personal account. The items were not withdrawn, but Jon was sent to investigate the matter, along with his own private buissness for being at the bank.

The Iron Bank refused to hand over the information after being asked multiple times, because Aegon wished to know the identity of the people that tried to steal from him. The Iron Bank said no because they were clients of the Bank itself. The Bank just said that everything is fine so keep doing buissness here.

Aegon decided that if the bank isn't going to hand over information that can help him prevent such an incident, he's just going to pull his assets out, and tell them to fuck off.

Edit: Also one of the options is one of the Lords of Westeros trying to start up a bank, so that may also have something to do with it.

Grandfather actually. But I can see why you would think that.

Also, yeah, Dad rolls good. It's why he was hand of the king baby.

Ah, miss read that, thought it said they did get away with stealing millions of dragons. Which is still pretty fucking bad all things considered. These clients just to steal from a more client, making untrustworthy for how can you trust thieves in a bank? Though with Aegon taking all the money back I now have the image of a dragon sitting on a pile of gold and treasure ala Smaug.

They did not steal any money. They almost stole Artifacts that belong to the Iron Throne. Rather important ones at that.

Well, there are no Dragons alive, so you'll just have to see Aegon and one or two of his sons swiming in a pool of Gold like Scrooge Mcduck.

They tried to steal Dragon Eggs didn't they. Shit...

Also an amusing sight. I am curious where he plans to keep the contents of his vaults, not sure if he has a place in the Red Keep and I'm not sure if I would trust it with the Lannisters.

How did Aegon even hear about it in the first place? It should have been easy for the Iron Bank to hide their missteps.

I keep thinking that the Blackfyres leaked the information themselves, never intending to go through with it... though they wouldn't have said 'no' if they got what they asked for. Though I also don't think its necessary that the Iron Bank was actually fooled for an instant.

Cutting ties may still be a mistake for the Iron Throne though.

This incident could very well lead to a "death spiral" for the Iron Bank. Trust is massively important for a bank, and when one client jumps ship by withdrawing all of their funds from the institution's vaults, there's a very good chance of other people following suit.

Although, this is also a good chance for Westeros to develop their own bank. Funny how Arstan and Tywin were discussing the merits of developing one in our last turn.

If the King loses faith in the Iron Bank and pulls all his assets out then the Lords and Ladies loyal see this and think that if the king doesn't trust them then there's probably a good reason and then those Lords and Ladies follow suit and pull their assets too. And then the other Lords of Westeros see this happen, wonder what's going on, and follow suit. Then merchant and magistrates start losing faith. Once trust and good faith dry up you're fucked as a bank, like what happened to the Rogare bank.
Me thinks the Iron Bank will start sending out hit squads.
Me thinks they already have.

Summerhall most likely. Hardly anyone ever goes there, and it's out of the way. It's literally described as "A summer Palace for the Targaryen Dynasty"

Quite simple actually. Someone wants the Iron Bank to lose power and influence, because its one of the few places keeping all of the Free cities from entering a grudge match that can cause one to rise over all the others.

To put it simply, every free city wanted it gone so they can have little competition in the region for their own institutions, whether they be trade guilds, merchant princes, etc.
I keep thinking that the Blackfyres leaked the information themselves, never intending to go through with it... though they wouldn't have said 'no' if they got what they asked for.
No. The Blackfyres would be stupid to do that. They are the banks most frequent costumer due to all the contracts they take and need to keep the money safe.

Doubtful, as the Bank has a near mythical reputation at this point. But it will lose influence in Westeros... They really might have just lost the whole continent.

for essos.. it really depends on the coming... reactions.

You must remember that the Iron Bank is at heart an Essosi institution. Most of the continent really don't give a rats ass about the Backwater that is Westeros, besides it being a political nightmare, rich in natural resources, and bodies to enslave if it wasn't unified under a single entity.

They will just see it as "Uncultured and uncivilized westerners are so stupid that they can't see the good in a Bank to store their money in HAHAHAHA, now lets rip them off on trade."

Well hopefully he doesn't try to reawaken the dragons while all the money's there. That'd be bad.

Oh those poor arrogant fools. I'll enjoy crushing them under our heel.

Well most Essosi don't give a rats ass about Westeros, unless their making money off of them, and look down upon them. At least the upper crust seem to.

don't know about the lower classes.
Considering most of the Essosi population are apparently slaves they probably don't give Westeros much thought.
