I have no real idea what's going to happen when Zhengui wakes up, so I would really like to take things a bit cautiously with having LQ's mortal family close by.

The point is to give everyone a chance to be heard. There is also always a chance for an upset. It has happened before where a vote with a huge lead gets beaten because a new view point is heard.
Leaving enough time for everyone to vote builds trust between the author and the readers. No matter how lopsided the vote is everyone wants to be heard.

I want to spend more time with our family. The only way to do that consistently is to tie them into the story enough that they aren't just an occasional sub plot. That requires effort, risk and deliberate action on our part. In time they will be useful and central enough to be worth our time. That starts here, with Ling Qi's resolve to respect her mother.
