Game of the Year: A Naruto Quest

[X] Ino does not look happy. She needs you now. Go find her before she gets too far away.

I actually disagree with your metaphor here. There are NO bullets that can possibly do anything less than impact their target and impart kinetic energy (excepting blank rounds, which are not actually bullets). There are some with additional effects, but nothing with less.

There are plenty of Genjutsu which have negligible effects or even potentially benevolent ones (though there are few benevolent ones, admittedly).

I think he was talking about KHR, lol. Mixing metaphors though.

"Hard work Beats Narutal talent" - Rock Lee

I will become the Rock lee of omakes to Katsuragi's Neji. Taijutsu will not become completly overshadowed! The Saskue reaction omake is on its way. @Vesvius

It had taken much effort but you had finally convinced Ino to start training with a blade. It had taken everything short of begging on your hands and knees for her to finally cave. You were almost forced to buy a hot pink tanto in public before you were able to convince her to practice with sticks first.

All that lead to right now. You standing across from Ino on the academy training grounds. Sticks in hands and no idea what to do. Of course, you knew the right movements, but teaching them was another matter entirely. You tried to start off simple. Swinging your stick in place, in the same manner, hundreds of times. When you suggested that you were met with a dead stare that promised that she would not be their long if that was all you did. Not one to be deterred you moved onto the next idea in your impromptu training plan. Explaining the blade and its various functions.

Her mocking yawning gesture was not encouraging for that potential plan. Finally, you resorted to your last remaining plan. A live spar. If she wanted to see the benefits of Kenjutsu then she would have to experience them first hand! You were most definitely not bitter that your best friend was mocking you. Nope, that was not it at all.

As the two of you stare at each other you wait for the exact right moment. Your hand resting lightly on the pommel of your sword. Waiting for Ino to make her move you stand there. No words exchanged between the two of you. Eventually what feels like five minutes pass and you eventually lose patience. Drawing your sword ready yourself and attack! Charging forward with one mighty leap you quickly close the distance! An overhead strike is all it would take. Nothing that would really hurt too badly. She is still your best friend after all. What should have been ended in a moment with one swing instead ended with your sword dispelling a clone. Looking around you were met with nothing. Ino nowhere in sight. Hearing a whistle from the trees above you saw her. Hands clasped in a very familiar seal. You were too stunned to react accordingly and were only able to squeeze a few words past your confused state of mind.

"I thought that this was a Kenjutsu Spar?" She looks at you like you were an idiot and said the words you were dreading to hear. The one that somehow justified her blatant cheating.

"Ninja in training." She said in a singsong voice. Then her jutsu hit you and everything just faded away. It was only when you finally found a mirror did you realize that you were in the possession of some glasses made out of magic marker. As well as some fantastically drawn facial hair. You wanted to be angry at her for using the very jutsu that took away control of your body, but as much as you hated it her 3 words had a point. You needed to be prepared for the unexpected! At least she had the decency to not touch your hair. That was just a line that you did not cross. She may have won this battle, but you will win the war!

Tbf, Asuma did teach his team. He just didn't teach his team conventionally. Especially since they had their clan to fall back on for their combat techniques. So I'd say Asuma was actually a pretty decent teacher.

On terms of teaching, I personally rank it Gai > Asuma > Kurenai > Kakashi.
*Remembers chunin exams*

Asuma: Don't worry Chouji, we will stop stop the fight if you are going to be hurt. Like how we stopped Neji from killing Hinata.
Shikamaru: Bitch, you are the only one who didn't jump in when that happened!

Like seriously. Hayate, Gai, Kurenai and Kakashi all went in to separate them and Asuma chilled. Shikamaru comments on it.

Anyways, I am considering changing my vote to

[] Ino does not look happy. She needs you now. Go find her before she gets too far away.

Because: a) Mariko is angry at the moment too and b) I want to point out to Ino that we are the ones on a team with Mariko so she should be consoling us instead. For the lols.

But we have to make a token effort and hopefully Mariko will calm over lunch. I also find it amusing that this all started over trying to have lunch with her.

[X] You may not like one of them, but you have a team now. You should make the best of it. Go find Kiba and Mariko, and have lunch.

We got Mariko.

I could BATHE in all the salt being thrown around in thread. Feels. So. Fucking. Good.

Just want to say that while we are friends with and care about Ino. We aren't going to be able to hold her hand for everything. She is upset. But going to her isn't going to change the fact that we aren't on her team and she isn't on ours. We can meet her later at her house when tempers aren't as hot. Right now, we should set some ground rules with Mariko and meet up with Kiba before Kurenai comes in. Lets clear the air before meeting our new teacher.
Making ground rules with someone who hates you doesn't end well.

Telling Ino to 'suck it up we're not gonna hold your hand' is completely ignoring a lot. Ino was so absolutely certain she'd be with Daisuke forever that it never even came into her head at any point that they'd be on separate teams, despite the fact Ino-Shika-Cho is a tradition she definitely knows about. She has been with him every single day and they have stood buy each other every single day of their lives since they were five, as even as babies they interacted a great deal.

Yeah, Daisuke means that much to her

This is Ino having the most important person in her entire life separated, she'll spend weeks away from him in her mind, they'll both be busy much of the day. The times where'd they'd spend nearly every moment not at home hanging out or together is gone.

This isn't her having to grow up, this is a near inconceivable separation for her. I really don't have any comparison for it. Just know that she is gonna be in a bad place right now and needs a hug. Not only that but leaving with the person who's tried t make her miserable for years is just gonna hurt her.

I'm sorry dude this isn't holding her hand for everything, this is a comforting hug and talk before they start to separate themselves from each other in a way they haven't since they were five.

Uh, guys, I think it's a really bad idea to go eat lunch with Mariko. She's not gonna forget anything over just a single lunch, right now she will start shit, Daisuke is stressed, his best friend is in a rage/panic/hurt and he is not gonna be in a good headspace for this. An unsupervised lunch will end with Daisuke breaking Mariko's teeth or her attacking Daisuke. It won't give us ammunition, it won't help team dynamics and it won't help Daisuke right now.

Dude, we are meeting Kurenai right after this you know. We should be clearing the air right now before she comes in. We should at least lay some groundwork or have a talk with Kiba and Mariko before Kurenai comes in. It would be better for anything to come out now than when Kurenai meets us for the first time.

Furthermore, how is Ino going to feel? This ain't just a 'she can deal with it'. This is her having someone she's spent every day with since she was a little kid separated from her, there will be a drift unless both work very hard to keep the relationship, and it will not be as close as it once was. She realises this, realises her childhood dream of being with the person closest to her in the whole world has been shattered.

And then she'll physically see that, instead of said best friend trying to comfort her, he went with the person who's tried to make her life miserable since she was five out for lunch.

That will only further enhance her worries of them drifting, made worse by who she'll see Daisuke chose over her.

When the cards were down, Ino choose to stick by Daisuke, over her friends and over her connection to a cousin, she choose to help him and now she needs him more than ever.

It's not fair if we just hurt her more right now.

This does a disservice to Ino. She is our best friend. Just because we don't run after her she isn't going to cut ties with us. She isn't going to take this as some sort of horrible 'betrayal'. The idea that we won't be friends with Ino any more is pretty out there. And to think that Ino would think so as well is ... very un-Ino like.

Tbf, Nothing did happen! Asuma was practicing Shikamaru's way of living.:lol

Which always confused me. Why AREN'T there more benevolent genjutsu? Hell, why has no one tried time compression before like Tsukiyomi? The amount you could do with time compression is insane. Not to mention stuff like Therapy genjutsu and stuff.

Because they're ninja and until Naruto* became Ninja Jesus nobody gave a shit about "benevolence" or "therapy". And I'd imagine Time Compression genjutsus put a major strain on the brain, not to mention that just because the brain is moving fast doesn't mean the body is keeping up. As for "therapy", they most likely have the attitudes of our pre1908 era where PTSD wasn't a thing and people who came back from the war had to suck it up and move on.

*I haven't read Boruto, so IDK if they ever actually practiced benevolence and shit after.

I'll be honest here. That sounds like a unhealthy attachment that she has to us. If that is how the relationship actually is, then I sort of understand why Ino's dad dislikes us.

Did I miss something in the omakes or story? Why are people acting like Mariko, a child petulantly angry at us, is a psychopath? It's surreal to see people get so upset over and invested in a children's feud.

Meta-game for Daisuke remembering more of canon???

Glad to see someone's looking at the positives.

I had omake ideas that I'd never fulfill before I even made it to the end of the vote.

Tl;dr:

Let Mariko try her worst whenever we aren't on mission.
In the meantime, train Kiba for conditioning, speed, and Taijutsu
Aside from that, get close to Akamaru as a special passion project, bc sword or halberd doggo is best kind of doggo

Even had character motivation stuff going on for it -
+ Mariko takes the opportunity to prove herself
+ Kiba views Daisuke the same way Daisuke views Gai: talented, intense, and batshit
+ Akamaru enjoys having a proper friend who isn't family, for once
+ Kurenai, however, is experienced enough to see what's really going on. A young traumatized boy learned to get ahead of possible betrayal by immediately placing friends and foes in easily noticeable locations. So for the time being, she'd watch to see if his defense mechanism would help or hurt him, while working on easing the obvious mass of insecurity her entire team is composed of.

So yeah. I personally have nothing to complain about except my not-writing of this idea, but there's plenty of potential greatness to be found here.

Yeah no, sorry mate, but that's not gonna work, you don't just 'clear the air' with someone who actively hates your guts for a majority of their life and even went so far as to try and use a Jutsu on you.

Kiba also isn't a social animal, he's not gonna stop a fight in time before it spills out. Furthermore trying to dictate ground rules to Mariko isn't going to work either she does not respond well to Daisuke im any circumstances and he is not in the mood or position at the moment to deal with her without blowing his top.

his does a disservice to Ino. She is our best friend. Just because we don't run after her she isn't going to cut ties with us. She isn't going to take this as some sort of horrible 'betrayal'. No, she won't cut ties or see it as a betrayal logically. I don't think I ever said that, but I can get why you'd interpret it as such.

But it will certainly hurt like an absolute bitch to see her best friend walk away with her new team, including Mariko.

And frankly, Ino doesn't deserve to be kicked in the balls twice today, she's likely gonna yell at her dad for this, Daisuke leaving her when she's in notable emotional distress is gonna make it so she at least cries a bit. Even if rationally knows they still care for each other and will always be together, as lovers, pseudo siblings, best friends or whatever.

However I don't want to hurt her more, she doesn't deserve that at this point and not after she's already done so much and always stood bye Daisuke no matter what.

When it ostracised her, she was still there, when Daisuke needed someone to help him, she was there.

Now it's Daisuke's turn.

I gotta agree. Put this way, it sounds more than a little worrisome. I mean, it's nice that we're Ino's best friend(She's ours after all) and that she has such trust in us(I hope we'll do the same), but put this way and I'm worried.

[$] Tell Iruka that if our team manages to pass, we will do our level best to ensure Mariko dies to enemy action on each and every mission we go on.
[X] There must be some mistake. Go talk to Iruka-sensei now, and try and change his mind! He's always listened to you in the past before. This time will be no different.

Please don't. I'm honestly of the opinion that it is better to clear the air now, when Kurenai isn't around than for this to all erupt when she is. Also, we can see Ino later on tonight when she has calmed down and console her if she still has misgivings.

Why do you think it will work? Mariko has carried her grudge for 6 years and has had no problem displaying it in front of authority figures. It would go against everything we have seen from her till now to be reasonable about it. Her first reaction was rage and her current attitude towards us is also spelled out as rage. If "clearing the air" would be so simple it should have happened before.

On over hand... why not? Katsuragi repeatedly pick choices what directly fuck up thread choices. I d say they have a reason to complain.

This is why we need communism irl folks. Dastardly assholes like Katsu. I don't understand how he gets away with it. We need to rise up against our bourgeouis overlords and string them up from the gibbets.

Indeed. And if prior experience is any example, her "clearing the air" is to attack us... Yeah, better to wait for Kurenai to be there to help stop her since Kiba's not likely to be any help...

Why? It's actually better for Kurenai for stuff like this to be in the open so she knows what to work with and tailor her training to fit what she knows rather than it happening during a mission or something and it comes off as a surprise.

Wow, your argument is both intelligent and compelling, such notably in depth analysis of empathy and people, surely you must have many friends who you don't mistreat, because you so obviously care about people's feelings. Furthermore you actually seem to have read what I wrote in my comments, unlike many who in comparison to you just ignored most of it and then started being insulting.

Sorry if I sounded like a dick there. But I would suggest not commenting in such a fashion. I will leave it here if you do. But I would rather you don't try and start something like thi-

Seriously dude.

Stop. Now.

I'm hopeful Mariko ends up even more useless than Sakura, since she likely won't be able to keep up with our growth rate and is unlikely to get a mentor nearly as good as Tsunade.

I mean, yeah she hasn't done anything but her attitude is bad af. I know she'll probably have a tragic backstory that justifies her being a bitch (probably severe inferiority complex to Ino too), so we should exploit the chance to feel vengeful while we can.

Ino isn't made of paper. The idea that Ino can't survive without us, that she can't cope, is arrogant and frankly sort of condescending to her. Like, I get it she is our friend and we should be there for her. But Ino is a tough cookie too. The concept that she is going to fall apart from this and that we absolutely need to be there for her or we are the worst friend ever is sort of ridiculous.

Edit: Like seriously, do people think that without us Ino is nothing or something.
