Game of the Year: A Naruto Quest

All good stuff- and the first one was kinda uncanny. You did a scarily good job at aping my style. I'm a tad freaked out.

60 XP for the first one and 50 each for the other three. 210 total.
Thanks! I'm mostly seeing the flaws, but you probably know how that is. Maybe I'll try harder to copy you in the future.

Alright folks, I'm undecided. Kawarimi would let us pull the Bushin shell-game more effectively(and potentially clang our sword behind him using a hidden clone as a swap point), while tossing it into Song of Discord could give us a new trump mid battle that not even our friends know of, if someone else donates. Advancing Endless Sword or our reserves could give us a nice edge. So I guess it depends on where everyone else decides to spend their wealth.

Reserves are 260 away. If someone puts 50 into reserves, you should be able to bring it to Superhuman, which will be a big help for us for using jutsu.

Just my 2cents here, but I'm in favor of buffing attributes before anything else. Then again I don't do any omakes or artwork, so I'm not really in a position to argue for any of this.

At least our physical aspects, because most of our combat ability comes from CQC.

Don't have any xp currently, but I'd recommend attributes. Particularly physical ones. Those ones aren't likely to get much higher at this point, though some of that is the fact that I honestly wanna see what happens if Dai gets pinnacle physical and appearance before puberty fully hits its swing.

I'm torn between it being a freight train and a jet liner crashing into him.

[X] Get close and use your strengths
-take the initiative
-get close, but stay focused on what he's doing, never lose track
-start the fight with Ken-jutsu, don't rush it, every little cut is a small chink in his armor
-start to gradually implement your Bunshins, they are nothing more than an annoyance in close-combat, but it might be enough to distract him for a split-second
-throw in a few Creation: Straw Companion: Ranking Not Applicable. Usable 5/day for emergency Kawarimi
-- just maybe you can try to fake a Kawarimi by using Henge into one of your Straw Companion
- try to implement your Bunshin as phantom-limbs to land some critical hits
- when the time is right, Sasuke loses his cool for example, initiate Tone of Discord (vertigo)
- disengage and initiate Endless Sword
- during the fight stay cool, there's absolutely no need for banter or some such.

A rough plan that I think would counter Sasuke well.

[X] Plan Beta

Try to get close to Sasuke as soon as possible. Use Ken jutsu and Taijutsu to attack, leaving him no time to make handseals for ninjutsu. Keep tapping your fan against your sword as if you're using ToD. Use ToD sparingly, poking his Anger so hes more reckless. Use Endless Sword only as a last resort if you can't dodge or if you see an opportunity to finish the match.

Be mindful of Sasuke's ninja wire and any possible traps. Bait him into wasting CHAKRA while you try to conserve your CHAKRA. Use Messrs Wood and Straw to either block Sasuke's attacks, obstruct his vision or serve as Kawarimi fodder.

Well, he's currently 13, so puberty's gonna set in over the next few years.

Also, Chakra Control, Chakra Reserves, and Chakra Senses are all Attributes, and will be dead useful in the up-coming battle. Especially Chakra Reserves, which is only a few hundred XP away from Superhuman and will greatly increase our ability to use more jutsu.

Comparatively, the Physical Attributes require more XP to reach that level, and we frankly need the Chakra advantage over Sasuke, considering he's got the greater technique arsenal and is loads better at a bunch of different ninja tools than us, as well as being in the same weight class as us in many other areas as well - taijutsu included.

A Thinly Veiled Reference by Katsuragi
@Vesvius

It was a dream he kept having. One that in no way fit his current life, but also one he was positive didn't come from his last. Backroom deals, haggling over position, comradarie and cut throat betrayals. Fame and fortune that attracted many, but ground them away until only a few ever truly made it. And even those elite, the ones that made it to the top, would almost always suffer serious injury and the rate of washout even with them was absurdly high.

He felt the thrill as dream him stepped up to a desk, his nerves carefully controlled and hidden beneath a calm exterior. The man behind the desk gave him an appraising eye before nodding once and sliding an envelope across.

"He's who I'm going after tonight?" Dream Daisuke asks, reviewing the details.

"Yeah. I've looked over who I have available, and you've got the best skills to handle this one."

You shrug slightly. He wasn't wrong. Your abilities matched up well for this particular throw down. "Pay?" Had to be asked. You weren't one of his regulars, so your recompense had to be negotiated up front.

He steeples his fingers together. "For this? I was thinking two hundred."

You snort. That was a joke. 200 wouldn't cover your expenses. You weren't well enough known that you could expect that kinda cash for grunt work, but going by the details this was anything but. They were setting up for something big here, and it would come crashing down if you didn't play your part well.

"Doesn't even cover my expenses, but you knew that. Five hundred, if you want to play it that way."

He shakes his head. "You're good, but you're not that good. And I'm pretty tied up making this happen. Three hundred is the best I can do."

You mull that over. It was...sufficient. But if everything went like it seemed to be planned, you could stand to get more in the long run. "Two fifty, and you guarantee me work next month if everything goes smoothly tonight."

He grins and reaches out to shake your hand. "A forwards thinker? That's what I like to hear. We're going to do great things if you stick with me."

You believed him. You followed his organization's work. They were a new group, but they had a certain quality the existing locals lacked. If nothing went Fubar tonight, they'd draw more attention of the right sort.

You excuse yourself out of his room and head over to your bag to start gearing up. Ordinarily you'd do more prep work and hash things out with some of your coworkers for a job, but they were tied up handling other things. Dude wasn't joking when he said he was stretched thin making this happen.

You felt the excitement flow through you as you pulled on your outfit. There wasn't anything else like.

As you pulled on your leather jacket, you let yourself grin fiercely. No, nothing else in the world like stepping into the squared circle.

You wake up with a smile on your face, most of the dream fading away without entering into your memories proper, but enough sticks with you to keep you in good spirits the rest of the day. You weren't positive what you dreamed about, but you knew you wouldn't trade it for anything.

I'm going to give it a lot of leeway, just so that he isn't trying to win with a totally rigid plan. Now, in some ways Sasuke is the worst possible opponent, as he's primarily focused on long ranged attacks. Luckily for us, he doesn't have the chakra to throw a bunch of those fireballs at us, but his ninja wire and shurikens are going to be a problem. The name of the game is to get close. Kawarimi, whatever, All Daisuke needs is to get in melee range and he's probably going to win. We should try to use tone of discord against the weapons and substitution to dodge the fireball

Yeah, I'm well aware of the bunshin's shortcomings. But if it overlaps with the user, it mitigates those weaknesses because the user is there to provide that sensory stimuli that would otherwise be missing from the usual use of the bunshin. You're there, under the bunshin so your opponent can smell you and see your shadow. The shadows would be slightly off but your body is there. Think of it as a hologram of yourself over your body. Or multiple holograms of yourself.

The utility of this usage might be minimal though, but it might be useful in misdirection against multiple people without having to put them all under genjutsu.

...You do realize just how fragile Bunshins are right? Just a simple swish of a hand and it bursts. So if you're overlaying your bunshin over youself and doing different handsigns than the bunshin, that would pop the bunshin because of the different hand, wrist, and elbow movements, and then the enemy sees you in the middle of preparing a different technique and make the appropriate defensive action.

Still doesn't work. Ves just debunked that.

Love the thinly veiled reference there. Could barely tell what it was referring to. Take 30 XP.

So, I've seen a lot on plans to try and close distance to Sasuke or the equivalent...but do we have too? Sure Sasuke can bombard freely...until he runs out of ammunition and chakra. And while he and Daisuke probably have similar chakra reserves, and while the Great Fireball is less costly then our Endless Sword, it's still not particularly cheap, nor has Sasuke really pushed it's speed/power/range. More close-to-medium distance, and too slow to get carry out if we can see it and close to disrupt or reverse to dodge. His projectile skill, while superior in quality (and probably more numerous in ammo then normal students would have)...also isn't particularly special. He doesn't have any fancy jutsu to combo it with yet, and his wire skills are still in development and more useful when he has time to set up or a distraction...which won't work in this context or against us respectively (unlike say, Naruto).

Since it's a limited-area spar he can't act with stealth (at least not with a near-peer opponent like us) for an ambush manuver, and his projectiles all have greatly reduced effectiveness (because we can see him, and c + reaction time is much faster then time to hurl a projectile and for it too reach the target at our level).

The biggest problem I can see us having is Daisuke being poor at projectile parrying/dodging even with his focus on CQC since it's not a specific skill we've developed...and I feel that weakness is mitigated somewhat just by the skill all Shinobi show with deflecting 'standard' projectiles and our hidden armor.

Non-standard aren't readily available to Sasuke (doesn't know the jutsu, and doesn't have the right context for wire trickery), leaving only use as a distraction for closing, evading, or Ninjutsu. The former is a bad idea for him, the latter is limited by our sparring area, and the only Ninjutsu he has, the Fireball, isn't quite fast enough to take advantage of an opponent like Daisuke (i.e. one used to Gai training speeds) before we can do the aforementioned close/dodge/nullify.

And in a battle of attrition? Of physical stamina? Sasuke is at a severe disadvantage...one he may not be aware of the full extent of (doesn't see us spar with Gai after all, or the morning 'games', only the lack of exhaustion in basic Academy exercises he himself is above).

All this leaves genjutsu, or blitz tactics...the former of which Daisuke has shown no especial resistance too (though to be frank, I don't know that we actually have any resistance or that Sasuke knows any), while the latter suffers from the same disadvantages of a skilled, armored, only-slightly slower opponent being able to see everything you do and react in far less time.

Of course, standing still does cede advantage to Sasuke, and I know I probably don't remember all his beginning tricks or if he'd keep anything in reserve. A possible alternative might be to take advantage of his lack of knowledge on the Straw Men. Using a kawarimi to abruptly close distance isn't unheard of after all, but it is limited in that it needs to replace with an existing object. Objects that Sasuke is sure to keep aware of and not too close to. Too bad the Straw-men don't have to exist until they do. It may be a temporary surprise, but if we can 'replace' close enough to engage while Sasuke is still reacting to the unexpected manuver (or even better, looking to where conventional Kawarimi targets would be after he sees our hand-seals), then we can blitz up close and take him down before he can recover.

I could put my 60 points into Taijutsu if needed. If we boost that up even further then we are a special Jonin in both tai and genjutsu. At this rate people will be asking us how we helped Guy come up with the sunset genjutsu.

Regardless of what our main battle plan ends up being, we're going to need to have our XP investments sorted out in priority so our lovely writers and artists don't need to struggle and debate about where to put XP to best help out the situation, or where to put XP in a trollish way that still helps out.

With that in mind, here is a Priority List followed by an explanation of said List and placements.

-

Immediate Priority: Superhuman Reserves (260XP), Advanced/Master Endless Sword (250XP/500XP), Advanced/Master Kawarimi (140XP/390XP), Intermediate SoD (250XP)

Secondary Priority: Superhuman Dexterity (440XP), Superhuman Strength (450XP), Pinnacle Control (690XP), Advanced SoD (500XP), Journeyman Acrobatics (400XP)

Tertiary Priority: Master SoD (750XP), Pinnacle Reserves (960XP), Journeyman Escape Artist (600XP), Journeyman Bluff (400XP), Journeyman Manipulation (400XP), Journeyman Sense Motive (300XP), Journeyman Perception (400XP), Journeyman Stealth (600XP)

Beyond Troll Tier: Expect Kenjutsu (450XP), Expert Taijutsu (360XP), Expert Shurikenjutsu (1150XP), Pinnacle Constitution (600XP)

Immediate Priority covers our most glaring issue at the moment, Chakra Efficiency. Sasuke either has Comparable Reserves or Larger Reserves, and his major Ninjutsu is currently cheaper than our major Ninjutsu. Increasing our Reserves either brings us ahead of or on parity with Sasuke, while Advancing or Mastering Endless Sword and Kawarimi will allow us to use those Techniques more efficiently, therefore either lowering the Chakra Cost or allowing us to do more with the same cost in Chakra. Intermediate SoD makes it Combat Usable and allows us to potentially trip up Sasuke in an area he has expectations in.

Secondary Priority is all about making us more physically capable than Sasuke (or likely bringing us to Parity on Dexterity), allowing us to more easily avoid Sasuke's attacks without spending Chakra, or further reducing our Chakra costs. If we get this far then with a good plan we can completely style over Sasuke and probably shatter his world view by showing him how far behind he still is.

Tertiary Priority amounts to "these things would be nice to have." They either let us better read, manipulate, and take advantage of Sasuke and our ridiculous Bunshin, allow us to bypass him catching us in Ninja Wire, or take a look at the idea of Chakra Costs and break out into giggles.

Beyond Trollish is more a challenge to @Katsuragi than anything else. If fulfilled it would amount to being able to utterly Style over Sasuke in the area he's the King of through easily parrying all of his blows, matching or exceeding his own throws, waiting him out until he's exhausted, and then utterly demolishing him in hand to hand worse than we ever have done before. At this point we might become an Orochimaru target because there's obviously some sort of bullshit that's in our blood that let us curbstomp the previous #1 so hard.
@Vesvius - 650 to Genjutsu.

We're a Genjutsu specialist now guys! ;-)
A list was made, but did you honestly expect Katsu to follow it, Wallis?
That source isn't canon but I could never find a freakin' canon answer to what Itachi's problem was(If there's one in the databooks, sorry don't have those).
I've long suspected that it's Tuberculosis, AKA the one true "Coughing up a lung" disease.

I could put my 60 points into Taijutsu if needed. If we boost that up even further then we are a special Jon in in both tai and genjutsu. At this rate people will be asking us how we helped Guy come up with the sunset genjutsu.

We need Perception.

Sasuke is fucking quick and he has knack for wires. We need to keep track of what he's doing before we get caught in some trap.
