Game of the Year: A Naruto Quest

Changing my vote.

[X] Kiba's right. You need to narrow your search. Instead of just researching the era, you'll focus on one specific thing.

Wait.... a while back I did say that if we got a chance to befriend Kairi I'd support it, so... I guess I'm changing my vote. Sorry Ivy, I must honour my words.

[x] Recruit another helper. You just want to do a general overview of the era and for that, you need more help finding better information.
-[x] Kairi; in exchange for permission to draw us until graduation

Did Sarutobi Okimi die? His name is crossed out in the Relationships tab.

I'm against getting Kairi purely because the vote for it involves letting her draw Yaoi pictures of us. It just feels wrong for Daisuke to be ok with that.

Rebuttal:

Mother has been using her body and image to take advantage of other people's attraction to her for longer than we've been alive. We currently have several omakes that refer to her currently doing so in a platonic manner so that Daisuke can gain assistants for various projects he's had. I don't find it outside the realm of possibility that Daisuke has taken advantage of his inevitable fangirls to achieve his own ends.

Therefore, it seems likely that there is a price on Daisuke's begrudging approval of yaoi smut of himself and it is simply that Kairi has not yet offered anything equivalent to that price. Help with Warring Clans Era Research may or may not be that price, and that's up to the voters at this point.

What does mastered bunshin even look like?

I'd imagine we could pull of that Kawarimi+Bunshin combo(Or whatever it was exactly) that Kakashi used against the Demon Bros really easily now.

Really, mastered bunshin is only really useful as a sudden surprise(Like the Kawarimi thing Kakashi pulled) or tied in with other mastered techniques. Like for example, the major weaknesses of the basic bunshin is the fact that (beyond the whole easy to see through shit if you're really bad at it) it has no shadow and doesn't rustle the grass or leave footprints in it and doesn't give off a smell. Quite easy to see through for any experienced combatant, which is why it's only taught as an introductory aid for the academy students and wouldn't be a problem for anyone should an Academy student somehow go rouge, and why most people move onto other better bunshins.

So the best way to use it is to master several other basic techniques, primarily genjutsu, to cover for such weaknesses. However unless those too, are mastered(And then practicing to join those various techniques together into 1 unified technique to activate in one move/moment), it's probably harder and less cost-effective to do so, than to simply move on and learn the Earth or Water Clone technique, for example. Plus, the higher bunshin techniques generally have other benefits that trump the basic bunshin too. And even then, using genjutsu is tricky because you never really know what the enemy sees and truly notices which means you have to take into account every little damn variable so as to properly ensnare them, unless you're a cheating cheater who cheats(Uchiha), which makes it hard to rely on in full.

I mean, if you're determined to really make the bunshin truly viable and cover all those weaknesses, good on you. But I think it'd be a long hard slog for very little gain and unless you can somehow teach someone to skip over learning all the techniques you had to use to learn and master to make that 1 unified new bunshin technique and just use that new technique, probably not worth the time.

Guy has his sunset genjutsu, we need a bishe sparkle genjutsu.

Complete with a pear(in the place of the moon). "Shall I bring you... dis pear?" :V

For the benefit of Future Vesvius:

@Vesvius, after careful consideration I would like to put my 60xp into Heal. This should be enough to level.

Edit: Turns out I suck at math so switching to heal instead of charisma.

@Vesvius Here, have a snippet.

"Alright, let's try this again…" Daisuke was currently perfecting his precision in his Tone of Discord genjutsu technique with the usual test dummy, Yamanaka Ino.

"Ready when you are, Dai," said Ino. Daisuke readied his fan to tap out a simple vertigo frequency. *POP*

… Oh, that wasn't supposed to happen. The fan popped out accidentally, clanging multiple parts of the sword in the process.

Ino shook a bit, before a single tear ran down her cheek and let out a small smile. A grumble was heard from her stomach and her eyes darted between his left and right.

"Haha, Dai, why do I feel like I'm happy-sad?" she slurred the last couple words. Maybe it was from the constant exposure and her willingness to allow the effects to take hold upon her, that resulted in this stronger cacophony of effects. She stumbled a bit towards him, and suddenly a projectile lashed out at him.

Daisuke ducked in preparation before feeling an unexpected wet splosch on his feet. He gagged when the smell hit his nose.

'Note to self, doing whatever I did makes the target prone to projectile vomiting.' He shuddered before scrapping his feet against the ground to get rid of the evidence before Ino got out of the very momentary effect. Maybe he should tone down the amount of times a day he subjects Ino to his jutsu.

Ino coughed out a few times, before a look of disgust and fury lit up on her face. She smacked Daisuke on the back of his head.

"Never… never again do that, Dai, or I'm not helping you with this jutsu anymore." The look she gave him told him that'd be the least of his worries.

Daisuke raised his head with a shaky smile. "… Fair enough."

@Vesvius You know what, here's another.

Daisuke could feel a bead of sweat running down his head in the area Rock Lee was intently staring him down, scribbling down his every movement in this impromptu spar with Gai-sensei.

"Daisuke, I'm glad I found you!" Gai popped out of the treeline permeating this training ground. "And I brought a young apprentice whose YOUTH burns brightly!"

Oh? He supposed it
was about time Lee started learning under Gai-sensei's tutelage. He turned to see two blinding stars obscuring his vision. He backed up a few feet, shielding his eyes.

"YOSH! My name is Rock Lee, and you must be Gai-sensei's youthful student, Daisuke-senpai!" Lee held out a hand for a handshake with a large, shiny smile and a radiating twinkle in his eyes.

And so Lee decided to watch him spar with Gai-sensei in order to study his "YOUTHFULNESS" he learned from Gai.

Daisuke blocked an incoming fist and flung himself past his opponent's side and strike from behind. Gai tends to keep these spars on or just above his level to keep him improving at a steady pace. A loud "Wow!" expelled from Lee's mouth as he watched his counter attack before quickly scribbling down the maneuver into his notepad.

Gai dodged and round-housed kicked him back a half-dozen feet. Daisuke stood his ground searched for any openings Gai would let him use at this level of Taijutsu.

"YOSH! Daisuke-senpai, you're YOUTH is amazing!" Daisuke's attention faltered at this outburst and he was rewarded with a backhand which he barely blocked, being pushed away once more.

"Don't let your surroundings distract you from the fight, Daisuke!" bellowed Gai, as he shot forward once more on the offensive. Daisuke dodged and blocked a few more strikes before countering with a few strikes of his own, a couple of which made impacts against Gai's torso.

"Ohhh!" Lee was awed at the display of chunin-level Taijutsu before him. Daisuke ducked under a fist a weaved into his opponent's defenses before trying to kick out Gai's feet from under him. Before that could happen Gai grappled both sides of his arms and flung him to the side, skidding across the ground before he righted himself.

"WHAT AN AMAZING COUNTER TO DAISUKE-SENPAI'S ATTACK, GAI-SENSEI!" Lee has visible tears running down his awed face. Daisuke, whose attention was once more on Lee's display of affection, was promptly kicked into the ground by an overhead kick from Gai. Gai turned around and gave Lee a thumbs up with a glinting smile.

"One day, Lee, you'll get to this level and surpass it! Fan your flames of YOUTH and give it your all!" Daisuke gave a groan into the ground.

"Gai-sensei!"

"Lee!"

"Gai-sensei!" Daisuke stood back up to see for the first time just what it looked like when they did this. They were tightly embracing with tears streaming down their faces, with what looked to be a shining beacon setting behind them.

"Lee!"

"Gai-sensei!" Daisuke sighed and brushed off some excess dirt from his person. Guess this spar's done for today.

@Vesvius

@Vesvius

I've been lurking and reading this enjoyable quest. Then omake muse kicked me due to the prompts, and thus this happened:

The bell above the door rang, alerting the proprietress of the famously exclusive Black Lotus Spa of Konoha that her longstanding Saturday 1:30 booking was right on time as usual. Smiling as she looked fondly at the trio standing in front of her, Izumi Okajima adressed them. "Miss Satomura, Miss Inazuka, and Kuromaru. Welcome back to my establishment."

Tsume Inazkuka let out a groan as she eased herself into the welcoming warmth of the hot spring to the amusement of her best friend.

"Yes, Yes. I'm a uncultured brute. I just got back from a an extended mission, so cut me some slack will ya, Manami?"

The titter from her friend was more of an answer than anything else, so like any good kunoichi she changed tactics and decided the best defense was a good offense.

"Speaking of that, while I was away your son decided to do something about my brats' manners."

"Oh? I haven't heard of this from Daisuke. What happened?" Manami asked, the ghost of a smirk on her lips.

Tsume scoffed. "Which means you already knew about it from Inoichis' daughter."

Her friends' smirk turned into a vulpine grin as she shrugged, sending ripples across the surface of the water. "Indeed, but because of that, I imagine yours will be significantly more entertaining."

A sharp bark of laughter was her response. "Ha! Hana is still debating on what to do with the afternoons' worth of work your son promised her, so if you have any ideas..."

Letting loose a sigh of contentment as the spas' on-staff medical kunoichi massaged her back, Tsume reflected on how the pair had become such good friends. Initially, it was more a begrudging appreciation and admiration from her as she watched the civilian Manami handle the attentions from men of Konaha with the skill many kunoichi would never begin to approach. More than anything else it resembled her families skill with ninken, as with but a word or gesture she could bring them to heel.

Hell, she'd seen Ibiki Moreno walk straight into a lamp post with a merely a smile and a nod of recognition from Manami as she passed him in the street.

Later on as their respective brats went to the academy together, they were drawn to each other by dint of being single mothers. It was then she found out that beneath the regal exterior, there existed a woman of keen intellect and cutting wit.

Her thoughts were interrupted by Manami politely clearing her throat. "Hmm?" she answered, turning her face to where her friend was getting a manicure.

"I asked where you wanted to go after this. Kuromaru still has some time at the groomers, and it won't take much time to do your nails."

"Food, maybe? Is there anything you wanted to do Manami?" she idly said before the almost gleeful look on her friends' face made her balk. "No, not that. Please, Manami." She did not shudder. It just got colder in here suddenly, that's all.

The courtesans' tsk in response made it clear that she was in too deep to escape. "Honestly. You need more in your closet than your uniform. I saw a dress the other day that would look amazing on you..."

Correction. She was doomed.

Daisuke has shown open disgust to the imagery using his form, as shown in the last chapter. By last chapter I mean this one, just saying in-case there is any confusion.

Excellent there! Take 60 XP and canon for this one. Thanks for the mass quote earlier BTW. Very helpful.

Certainly nobody is going to expect his soon-to-be Mastered Bunshin, so that's a surprise element

Not even Daisuke expected masterin the Bunshin.

[X] Kiba's right. You need to narrow your search. Instead of just researching the era, you'll focus on one specific thing.
-[X] Map of clan territories 5-10 years before hidden village establishment and descriptions of their relationships.

Just imagine trying to cover a 1,000 years in real life. That would be the medieval age all the way to today. That's way too much for a presentation. Paper would be doable-only because it'd turn into a whole freaking book. That's not even getting into the fact that they have to deal with crummy, contradictory sources.

For the current low exp shortlist:
Disable Device: Simple (150/200)
Henge no Jutsu (Ninjutsu): Basic (420/500)
Yin Release: Tone of Discord: Advanced (900/1000)
Appraise: Simple (100/200)
Beastmastery: Untrained (020/100)
and for skills that people are interested in levelling for other reasons:
Perform: Adept (590/800)
Linguistics: Practiced (250/400)
Disguise: Practiced (250/400)
Reserves: Above Average (980/1300) - achievement

Fair point. My point is less "Daisuke is inclined towards selling his image" and more "Daisuke likely has a price that he'd be willing to sell his image for, despite his disgust."
