Game of the Year: A Naruto Quest

You want us to live, right?

I see. You want us to die so we can learn more about Tokei and potentially get his achievements in a new playthrough?

I can't really say much to refute you if you want to die, other than that the save / reload mechanic most likely won't be kind due to the difficulty, if it even exists at all.

I'd rather not die, and am anyway not interested in Tokei's achievements after he called Daisuke's mother a whore.

I mean, wanting to live but assuming we'll die is an option that somehow doesn't seem to be coming across. I apologize for not being even more clear.

My plan has nothing to do with us living as a major priority, which is where the problem seems to be arising.

Here are my priorities:

1. Mother is not harmed further and put somewhere safe as assurance that she won't make Tokei escalate.
2. We ask Tokei questions and hope he feels like answering.
3. If he answers enough to satisfy the requirements, see what the Achievements do for us.

If nothing else, being reasonable so that he doesn't kill a woman he obviously loathes after butchering her child seems like a valid plan to me. We wanted our stated motivation to be "protect Mom", so this is how I'm approaching it. In a way that a 5 year old who has been working out all day could feasibly pull off with greater chances than trying to outrun and outfight a samurai coming at us with intent to kill.

I think that even standing around and answering questions could be seen as a stalling tactic - which is then interpreted by Tokei as being harmful to his mission, since every second passing means more chance of a ninja interrupting. Also, Daisuke doesn't possess the social chops to pull this off.

Just up and running (where he'll have to ditch mom to chase after us) seems to be more likely to fulfil step 1 of your plan. As I'm not interested in Tokei after this reveal, I am hopeful that his achievements will remain unachieved and can't support 2 and 3.

[X] You must protect your mom, everything Gai-sensei has taught you has been for a moment like this. You can't beat Tokei, but you can buy time for surrounding ninja to help. Lure him outside, where there is more space, and try to be loud and boisterous to attract surrounding ninja. Engage in evasive maneuvers.

Um. I'm gonna say that our best option for survival is to call bigger fish. We've stumbled into a boss way out of our level of matching it head on. Attempting to even use the sword is roflmao terribad, and taking it with us... feels like it'll result in something that'll result in some unfortunate stoppage via door frame.

Whether or not he'll listen or not is up to the individual, but I have presented why I think he'd be willing to accept it. Hell, we could walk with him as he locks mother in a room somewhere or whatever. I did say we'd sit, but the entire point is to act in a way that doesn't arise suspicion because there's nothing suspicious going on. So put him at ease so he won't flip out and murder us in front of our mother.

Aside from that, I don't think the rewards have anything to do with us needing to be with or around him after this. I just want more tools for us to benefit from in the future, and if we manage to use them to get out of this situation, then hey, I'm fine with creating a deus ex machina for ourselves.

What do we have to lose by trying, besides time?

We don't know if the Save / Load system works like that. This is hardmode, so it might not be so easy to succeed. We could have a steadily increasing malus for every death, like in DS2 (I think Curse Death? It's been a while) or we could end up having to restart from an infant, which would be horrid.

And shouldn't we find out now when we stand a chance to gain a lot and lose a little (we still haven't gotten out of the tutorial I'll remind you). We won't lose Achievements, however, because no game works like that.

If it was feasible, I'd push for getting the Mr. Straw Achievement since it's only a few hits off, then let him kill us. But we can do that in another life, while we probably (as voters) aren't going to trust Tokei again and get close enough to get whatever reward from him we deserve. Also, only one is specifically about him, the other is about us. Him telling us about our true heritage as a dying wish could get us an Achievement and we wouldn't need to be all that sketchy about us. "Can you at least tell me a little about the lord you serve so loyally?" Bam.

Doesn't require super high stats since it's not a super complicated plan. No moving parts. Just two movements. Mother to safety, ask a question.

I can't see why he would waste time monologuing when every minute that passes makes it more likely he'll be caught. Why not kill us and commit sepukku? He doesn't even like Minami, his priority is to finish the mission.

As for our true heritage - I think we can ask Minami about that, once we survive. She's more trustworthy.

I kinda agree with you in that getting the achievements might be the ace in the hole that could let Daisuke survive. Mr Straw should really be part of that though, it should give some kind of physical boost.

Would Tokei really allow any of it though, since any kind of talking is likely to shake his resolve?

I don't care much about Daisuke's death at this point because we have not achieved much. It's better to find out what we keep and what we loose after death early in the game rather than after one year of playing.

I mean, chances are we die regardless here. Not to be a downer, but trying to evade him in any way - running included - is likely to fail. The gap between us and him are beyond compare; he's a Samurai from the Land of Iron who were only made of the highest caliber of individuals. We run, we're pretty much asking to be run through. I'm more of the opinion that this is mostly going to cement the fact that death is inevitable and to be careful in further interactions with all. We discarded our relations with Tokei and it could well lead to our death here because of it. Sucks, but likely to occur.

Then again, maybe that isn't how this turns out. I sincerely doubt we were presented with a problem with no solution available. Then again, this is a rare case where we've been allowed the option to create write-ins. Might be a meaningful bit that should be considered.

[X] Tokei is beyond you. He's a fully trained samurai and you're fucking five! You need to run! You need to run right now and call for help!

Okay, for people voting for

[] Tokei is beyond you. He's a fully trained samurai and you're fucking five! You need to run! You need to run right now and call for help!

How do you expect to get away? You're going to run outside through the door, scream for help, and then what? You're betting on a trained samurai not being able to catch up to a 5 year-old. Leg size makes a huge difference here. Moreover, his sword is right next to the door which means he'll grab it if he chases us outside, and afterwards all he has to do is catch up and slice us up.

Unless you expect ninja response to be incredibly fast then this is a dead option. Also, we were just lectured by Gai that no enemy is truly unbeatable and that no matter how impossible a situation is, there is always a path to victory. Running away contradicts this lesson and obvious foreshadowing/hint about the fight with Tokei, and it's easy to see that not heeding the narrative will end up with us dead.

For people voting for

[] You must protect your mom, everything Gai-sensei has taught you has been for a moment like this. You can't beat Tokei, but you can buy time for surrounding ninja to help. Lure him outside, where there is more space, and try to be loud and boisterous to attract surrounding ninja. Engage in evasive maneuvers.
-[] Grab his sword on your way out.
-[] Fight Dirty
-[] If the opportunity presents itself, all you need is one clean shot to kill him.

You're going to fight him using everything Gai taught you, right? Since when did Gai teach you to use a blade? You're going to be fighting him with something you have no experience using in contrast to the actual skills Gai-sensei taught you, the ones that were enough for you to go head-to-head in a practice spar with the man and even take him off-guard.

Also, how exactly are you going to fight dirty with a sword? You're going to kick him in the crotch or bite his hand all while trying to balance an heavy sword? Maybe try to fling sand in his eyes, oh wait, we have a blade in our hands. Seriously, please explain what that's supposed to be because it's pretty nonsensical.

And us only needing one clean shot to kill him? That's a two-way street. A little kid is far more squish than a brutish samurai, and we're going to try to kill this samurai whose trained his whole life with the blade and against it, with a blade. I highly doubt we're going to beat him in that angle.

Besides, it's not like there's already a plan that tries to maximize the chance of getting off a critical blow with a blade and capitalizes on that advantage to beat him down.

Oh yes and for the people who've already thrown in the towel and are just banking on being respawned, it might be my unfamiliarity with this format, but I do wish for us to try to survive and not give up just because this seems impossible, especially when the same update argues that unbeatable foes can be overcome.

Hey OP; just a thought but votes are getting hella messy and hard to tally; maybe a plan format should be applied? Remove the options you left and just put [] Write In

Then require players to vote in Plan format so that votes can be easily counted and ideas better implemented?

[X] Grab Tokei's sword, and start running up the stairs. When he gets close, launch yourself backwards and try stabbing the Samurai. When you hit the floor, throw yourself away from the stairs and run for help. If he grabs you, fight as hard as you can and don't be afraid of dirty tricks.
[x] You're the one he wants! Draw Tokei upstairs! There has to be something you can use to defeat him there!

-[X]Stab him in the legs as soon as he opens the door.
-[X]Run away and start screaming for help. With his leg hurt, he shouldn't be able catch up with you.
[X] Kite the bitch! You cannot defeat him on your own, but you are a future shinobi of Konoha, and that means relying on your comrades. Lure Tokei into a public area, and other shinobi will surely assist you! That doesn't mean you can't try to get your own hits in. Put Gai's training to use.
[X]You need to draw him away from your mother, so run outside.

[x] If you run, Tokei will take it out on Mother before chasing you. You can't let that happen! You know some Taijutsu! You'll fight him head on!
[X] You're a small exhausted child up against an experienced killer who doesn't even like you. Welp, time to cheat and blatantly metagame.
-[X] Ask for him to have the common decency to at least lock your mother up, unharmed, in a different room so she doesn't have to watch her son get murdered. You have no intention on running, you're too tired, so you might as well have a seat while you wait for him to return.
-[X] Use the time to figure out an approach to let you fulfill the Unsheathing the Blade and He Who Watches Achievements. Hopefully he'll be willing to grant a cooperative child's dying wish to learn a few things that always eluded his grasp.

-[X]Grab the sword, run outside, and close the door
-[X]Stab him in the legs or torso as soon as he opens the door.
-[X]The pain and shock should make him kneel over slightly which should leave his head open to an assault.

That's why I think a plan format makes more sense; Cause honestly the people who voted for it probably would rather their vote be counted towards the higher one that is a little more detailed then be put in a separate block and possibly lose the option they wanted when the vote is closed.

That's why I prefer plan format; if people vote for different plans even if they only differ slightly you can be sure they voted BECAUSE of said difference

You should remove the x from the bracketrs unless you are planning on changing votes.

I don't really see how trying to cripple Tokei in a sneak attack is any better though. Is Daisuke's stealth higher than Tokei's perception?

As for running I don't think it matters if Tokei has his sword or not. He can probably kill Daisuke with the knife he's wielding anyway.
The running vote is for those who hope that help comes fast, and it's not unreasonable that it could. There has to be someone patrolling somewhere and Manami will probably try to stop Tokei in whatever way she can. She'll fail but it'll give Daisuke a few secs at least.

Even if he can overcome any obstacle, does not mean that he can do it without help.
