Let's all agree that Sayaka being guilty of killing Mami Tomoe is absurd.
Like, she might bear some responsibility for it, but no way in hell Kyubei or Mami herself aren't more responsible for the result.
So I want to contrast that absurdity with Sayaka's very emotional assessment of the situation.

Like,
"We are all going to die!"
"That's just silly. This is snow; snow doesn't kill people and we are wearing warm clothes while sitting in our apartment and sipping hold cocoa." ( edit: hold cocoa is not a typo, it's a cross between hot and cold, but not lukewarm. Authentic. Genius. Radical )

I mean, yeah, an emotional approach will most likely work too, but it would set up an uncomfortable ( for me ) precedent of Sayaka having to seek emotional reinforcement, I guess, from other sources other than self-confidence.

That's actually pretty normal and happens all the time, but I feel like a Magical Girl would need more self-reliance in order to survive and relatively prosper.

So I just concentrated on presenting the argument "from the mouths of babes", as it were, in the most logical manner possible, so that even Sayaka would realize she'd been so stupid and stop her hysterics what the crossed part says, but without a Witch-out reference.

Then again, I'm probably overthinking this to hell and back, and what Sayaka really requires is a long, sloppy kiss. From Kyouko, that is. Or Homura's Hair. Iunno, I haven't slept for all that long.

This makes a lot of sense to me, actually, and I have (I think a minority) view that individual votes can set a precedent for actions and mentalities further on in the quest, but it still should be judged on a case by case basis. Here I think emotional reinforcement might be good. Sayaka is, among other things, an emotional person and right now is having an emotional breakdown. From personal experience I find that it is easier to reach that kind of person if you engage them on their own terms, so to speak. If you just apply logic... the brain is really good at coming up with justifications of "Yes... but!". And I don't think that's because Sayaka is a dumb stupid idiot or anything (not that I'm saying people here are strictly claiming that.) I think it's because she's a teenager and lost somebody she deeply cared about and saw as an idol, and now Kyubey is actively guilt-tripping here. That's going cause someone to spiral bad. It can be worth looking at somebody on an emotional level in these cases and try to balance things out- no you're not at fault here, it's all going to be okay.

Looking at things logically can work too, don't get me wrong. If done the right way- and I think the way in this vote is more or less fine- even people upset and depressed aren't inherently immune to logic, and I think Sayaka can easily get where we're coming from here. I'm not sure it'll work effectively as I personally see a more directly emotional approach working, but with a bit of charity from the QM, at the very least it could hold off an outburst for now, and if it gets set off again, we can deal with that later and maybe even be able to confront the more underlying issue, which is really what's important here.

I guess my point is that while I think the vote I'm backing is better... I think both votes have their strong points and I just wanted to use this post as a bouncing off point as to why.
 
Real talk though, I have a rather amusing mental image of Sayaka also ending up kissing Homura before Madoka gets a chance to.

You can always combine the votes together in an indestructible megazord that will mow down through Sayaka's insecurities like a mermaid's knife through a rather long slab of peanut butter help I don't know what I'm even writing anymore.

Really, if someone combines the two winning votes reasonably well, I'm going to vote for them later when I have the time. Tapkomet tried something that looked quite promising.

Honestly looking at the vote again... yeah I'm willing to swing to that. I might switch back to my initial option if it doesn't get traction but it's a pretty decent shot at a best of both world's approach that works pretty well. Doesn't get too aggressive with the intellectual angle, and I think a soft approach is better here, and I feel like in some ways it kind of feels like it defends Sayaka, rather than more aggressively attacking Kyubey, and wraps up with an emotional moment, and if we're going for a combo I think that's the way to go.
