[X] Very seriously, tell Kyoko that you understand why she likes Homura and her Hair, and that you support her no matter what.
"Homura, huh?" you say. "Yuma could have sworn-"
"No, no!" yells Kyoko, waving her hands wildly. "No no no, no, no no!"
"Now, Big Sis," you say. "Yuma knows that she may have been pushing you in a different direction, but Yuma wants you to know that she supports you, no matter who you like."
"But I don't like Homura!" says Kyoko. You cock an eyebrow, staring at Big Sis in disbelief. Is she really...
"Yuma may not be the best when it comes to kissing and things," you say. "But Yuma is pretty sure that when you kiss someone, it's because you like them."
"But, I, I don't!-" Kyoko sighs, rubbing her pink cheeks. "Yuma, sometimes, you kiss someone even if you don't like them. And that, what just happened? It was that kinda thing."
"So you're saying you don't like Homura?"
Kyoko nods, a smile growing on her face.
"And you kissed her anyway?"
"Yeah, now you're getting it!"
"Big Sis, you're not very good at this whole 'dating' thing, are you?"
Kyoko groans, head falling into her hands.
"Just let Sayaka and Madoka in, will you?"
You turn around, walking over to the balcony door. You notice that Homura is in the exact same position as when she saw Madoka, eyes wide. Enh, she'll get better. You open the door, smiling at your two new guests.
"Hey guys!" you say. "Glad you're here!"
Your voice snaps the two of them out of their transfixed states, staring at Kyoko and Homura. Their cheeks somehow turn even redder, and the two of them snap their gaze down to you.
"Oh, uh, Yuma!" says Madoka. "Are we, um, interrupting anything-"
"No!" Homura and Kyoko shout at the same time. They look at each other and blush, turning away.
"Madoka Kaname, you are not interrupting anything," says Homura. "You cannot be, as nothing is happening."
"B-But, I just saw-"
"NOTHING!"
Madoka jumps, making an 'eep' sound.
"Please, come in!" you say. Madoka and Sayaka finally do, hesitantly stepping into the hotel room proper.
"So, Kyoko and Homura," says Sayaka. "I guess, congratulations on-"
"We're not dating!" they say.
"Oh, sorry," says Sayaka. "If it's embarrassing, then-"
"It's not embarrassing," says Kyoko, argument somewhat hindered by the color of her cheeks. "We just aren't dating!"
"You aren't?" says Madoka. "But you two were just… you know…"
"Kissing," says Kyoko. "Yeah, that wasn't what it looked like."
"You two weren't kissing?" says Sayaka.
"Well, I mean, we were," says Kyoko. "But that's not because we're dating or anything! I just… got caught up in the moment!"
"So it was more like a confession!" says Sayaka.
"No!" screams Kyoko. "Not a confession! I don't have a crush on Homura!"
"Are you sure?" says Madoka. "She has very lovely hair, and she's actually a very nice person once you get to know her-"
"I! Don't! Have! A crush! On! Homura!"
"Then why did you kiss her?" asks Madoka.
"Because-" Kyoko raises her hand in the air, finger pointed to the sky, but stops. She takes a deep breath, letting it out in one long sigh. "I'm just really bad at this whole 'romance' thing. I'm not experienced in the whole 'knowing your feelings' stuff, and I got carried away, and the hormones took over, and we were arguing, and you know the whole 'slap slap kiss' thing? Anyway, I'm sorry if I weirded you out, Homura."
"It's fine," says Homura. "Though I must request that you don't do that again."
Kyoko nods, smiling lightly.
"Aww," you say. "How nice! Now-"
"If you even
think of saying 'now kiss,' I will make you kiss the business end of my spear," says Big Sis Kyoko, eyes narrowed.
You close your mouth, wisely deciding to live to tease another day. But wait, maybe-
"Same goes for kiss and make up," says Kyoko. "And 'you really do love each other.' That one especially."
Well, drat. There go all your ideas. Kyoko relaxes, looking up to Madoka and Sayaka.
You motion towards the bed, and the five of you sit down on and around it. You and Kyoko are the only ones who actually sit on the bed, with everyone else taking a seat on the floor next to it.
"Say, Sayaka," says Big Sis Kyoko. "And Madoka too, I guess. Why were you so shocked to see Homura and I kissing?"
Sayaka turns her gaze to the ceiling, while Madoka turns bright red and stares at the floor.
"Why
was I so surprised?" says Sayaka, thinking out loud. "Well, I guess I hadn't really figured out that you liked girls."
Kyoko's shoulders drop, and she hangs her head in defeat.
"Really?" she says, looking up at Sayaka. "What, was Yuma shouting it out not obvious enough for you?"
Sayaka blushes, making her the first person in this room to blush because of something non-romantic.
"Well, I was thinking about other things, okay!" she says. "There were more important things on my mind! Who you kiss was not the biggest thing to come out at that lunch!"
Kyoko smiles, already back in the teasing mood, but doesn't push any further. Madoka doesn't seem to be up for talking, staring at the floor as if having realized a horrible secret, and you end up being the one to break the silence.
"So, Sayaka," you say. "Homura, Kyoko, and Yuma were talking about becoming a team. And since you seem pretty cool, Yuma was wondering if you wanted to be in it too!"
Sayaka doesn't say anything, rubbing her chin. Her eyes are narrowed but not looking at anything, and her brow is furrowed. Eventually, she looks up at you and speaks.
"This team of yours, why do you want it?" says Sayaka.
You shrug in response. "Well, Yuma thought it would be good for us to work together," you say. "If we come across a witch too strong to take on by ourselves, if one of us is running low on grief seeds and someone else has some spares, or just to have somebody to talk to."
"That… seems good," says Sayaka. "Maybe give me the night to think it over? I mean, working together to help people can't be bad, right?"
You smile at her, positively beaming. Yay, you could all work together!
Of course, your happiness is ruined by an annoying voice in your head.
"
Sayaka Miki, I find it odd how willing you are to cooperate with them," says Kyubey, pacing along the floor and settling in the middle of you all. "
In particular, Homura Akemi. Were you not cursing her over her role in Mami Tomoe's death mere days ago?"
Sayaka stiffens, but more noticeably Kyoko does as well. Why would she- oh right, she knew Mami!
"Kyubey," snarls Sayaka. "I was wondering when you'd show up."
"
Sayaka Miki, you are being unnaturally aggressive."
"Homura didn't do it, did she?" says Sayaka, ignoring him. "I thought that she had let Mami die, hell, that's almost what you told me happened. But you were lying, weren't you!"
Kyubey tilts his head, expression unchanging.
"
Sayaka, you know I cannot lie. I told you what happened, and my recounting was entirely truthful."
"Oh really?" says Sayaka. "Then why did you say telepathy wouldn't work long-distance, huh! These three think it works just fine, and Yuma was able to connect with me when I was in my apartment, so why did you say we couldn't contact Mami, you lying
fucker!"
"
I did not tell a lie," says Kyubey. "
Had you attempted to contact Mami, you would have found yourself unable to. The telepathic connection would not have worked."
"That doesn't make any sense!" yells Sayaka. "How can it work now, but not before?"
"
Because I control the telepathy, and I would not have connected you to Mami," says Kyubey. "
As such, the telepathy would not have functioned as you wished it to."
Sayaka lets out a scream of rage, bounding up and grabbing Kyubey by the neck.
"Why?" she screams, eyes glistening. "Why would you kill her? I thought you were her
friend!"
Despite his current strangulation, Kyubey remains calm, detached. His expression remains the same, seemingly uncaring as to his current danger.
"
Am I truly to blame for her death?" he says. "
When I told you to go into the barrier, I expected Mami to survive the encounter. I did not expect for her to die alone."
"What exactly do you mean?" says Sayaka, suddenly quiet. Her hands begin to tremble, and her expression turns from one of rage to one of horror.
"
I knew that the witch would be strong, too strong for Mami to handle alone," says Kyubey. "
I also knew that sooner or later, you would make a contract. If you and Mami had worked together, I suspect you could have defeated the witch. But instead, you stubbornly refused to make a contract, and Mami Tomoe was murdered."
Sayaka drops Kyubey on the floor, shaking. "So that's it," she says, voice wavering as tears fall from her eyes. "You were just trying to help her, but I messed it up. It wasn't Kyubey or Homura who did it. It was me.
I killed Mami."
You stare at her in shock, as do the others. Kyoko's fists are clenched, and her arms are shaking with what you think is anger. She's switching her gaze between Kyubey and Sayaka, and you think she wants to say something.
But for whatever reason, she's keeping silent, as are Homura and Madoka. Homura has returned to her original coldness, face blank, while Madoka trembles.
