Game of the Year: A Naruto Quest

[X] The Scion. You were born to a family of wealth and privilege, growing up wanting for nothing.

[X] New In Town. You're not from around here. Your family is a new arrival in Konoha, and it definitely shows.

The out of town parents would presumably have normal income. They could ground us, perhaps, but if we're training to be a ninja we could just sneak out. Not like they can watch us 24/7. And if they'd disown us over it, then fuck them, they're not worthwhile.

The Scion's parents would have servants, which may include other ninjas if its a clan of ninjas, who could explicitly keep us from doing that. And they likely would use those to manage our life if we decided to do things they didn't approve of.

Also, not everyone in the village hated Naruto, even knowing what he had inside of him. Iruka didn't, and neither did the folks at that ramen stand he frequented. There were likely others as well. The hate wasn't ever truly universal. For those who did hate him, his pranks certainly didn't help, as the fed into the bad perceptions, but those were cries for attention - if he had an actual friend to play with, he wouldn't be doing that so much.
I mean, there had to be out of town parents in canon as well. And they and their kids still scorned Naruto. If we want to befriend him, we are almost certainly going to have to go against our parents to do it.

Hell, the Scion might have it easier, since Ninja parents would be able to recognize the difference between a Jinchuriki and the Kyuubi. They'd still not want us socializing, but we won't have to deal with the Demon Child civilian stuff.

Wow. You completely miss the point. Ya know they can pull us out of the Academy yes? Like seriously just cuz they don't have servants or are rich doesn't mean they aren't our parents.

I'm not sure they actually could pull us out of the Academy. You do understand that the Academy is basically Konoha's military training program, right? And Konoha's government is going to want return on investment. I don't think the administration would actually allow that, especially if we wanted to continue with the program. The village needs as many ninja as it can get.

The kids scorned Naruto because their parents and/or all the other kids did. If our parents demand we don't hang out with Naruto, we can demand to know why, and when they inevitably don't give us an actual reason not to... well, we'll do it anyways. Or at least we will if we don't have goddamn ninja servants getting in the way.

I honestly doubt it. Oh, sure, they might know the difference, but they'd have the family reputation to be concerned about. Would they want their scion hanging out with the town pariah? Almost certainly not.

Lets go over this slowly, since you obviously still don't get it.

Our parents won't approve. It will not be easier to hang out with Naruto if there are no 'ninja servents' like you keep insisting. Punishment after punishment will keep piling up. No sneaking out a grounding will not work. We'll be caught. Not be trusted. And will be kept under watch of our parents 24/7.

Do you understand yet?

Let's go over this slowly, since you obviously still don't get it.

First, "Our parents won't approve" depends on the parents, because our parents are people and a variety of factors will apply to what they think. I think it's more likely that the out of town parents would be fine with it than the scion's parents, because an established rich family that has to care about their reputation and the reputation of their scion (and heir?) would very much not want their kid hanging out with the village pariah.

Second, normal parents can't actually keep their child under watch 24/7. They'll have jobs, and their kid will need to go to school, and other things that will prevent that from happening, because that's what happens in real life when normal children defy their normal parents. Wealthy parents on the other hand can just have their servants, and possibly ninja in their employ, which they can use to enforce their edicts, and could actually have us watched 24/7 if they so desired.

This is partially based off of Japanese culture at the very least. The thing about Japan? ALL families care about their reputation. Not just the rich ones or ones of high status. So that utterly destroys your first point.

They will do their best to keep us under constant watch. Especially if their job hours are the same as our school hours. They can ask the teachers, who'd be more than happy to, keep us away from Naruto.

And even if despite everything we still keep doing it? Congrats! Our reputation becomes as bad as Naruto's! Now, how do you think being ridiculed by the majority of the village will do to our mental state?

Honestly, your understanding of how bad things are is probably based on bad fanon and bad logic. Case in point - Ichiraku Ramen served Naruto openly and publicly for years. Did their business get destroyed? No. And while Naruto damn well loves his ramen, there's no way they could have stayed in business with only one customer. Obviously people didn't care about Naruto's status nearly as much as you're claiming they do.

...I'd ask but I already know the answer is yes.

You do realize this destroys any argument you have about scion and 'muh reputation' there too yes?

Not really. There's a difference between "there's enough people willing to eat at Ichiraku's to keep it in business even though Naruto eats there" and "the scion/heir of the <important wealthy clan name here> clan is hanging out with the village pariah". High society operates on different rules, and reputation isn't just a matter of business, it's a matter of pride.

Ugh, scion reads like a trap option. Better to get a feel for the world from the bottom up. Choose Newcomer to play a refugee who starts from the bottom and befriends ninja!jesus. Wanting for nothing sounds like a recipe for entitled spoiled brat.

[X] The Street Rat. You grew up on the streets, using your wits and cunning to eke out an existence.

ehhhh, might be unwanted, but congrats to those who don't like the scion.
