Mami Said Knock You Out, a Yuma Quest (PMMM)

Mustering all your willpower, you slip out of bed and onto the carpeted floor. Your fuzzy green pajamas rustle as you walk to the kitchen-like area, and you rub your eyes as you ponder what to make.

There's plenty of rice in the cupboard, but you decide to go for a western-style breakfast. You had pestered Big Sis to get some eggs, bread, and dairy last time she went out for groceries, and you had a plan for all that food.

Taking out four pieces of bread, two for each of you, you get to work preparing two fried egg and cheese sandwiches. Sure, you may not have really needed to slather so much butter on the bread while frying it, but Kyoko had taught you her trick for staving off weight gain. You think you can afford the indulgence.

Big Sis rolls around in bed, mouth opening in a grand yawn.

"Yuma, what're you doing?" she mumbles.

"Making breakfast," you say. Kyoko sniffs the air, grinning as she smells your work. "Gimme a bit to wake up," she says.

You comply, assembling the sandwich into its buttery, fried glory as Kyoko stretches.

Once fully awakened, she pads over to the table, sitting down as you present her with breakfast.

"Here ya go!" you say. "One fried egg and cheese sandwich, hot and ready!"

Kyoko rubs her hands together, licking her lips as she grabs the sandwich.

"Mhm, this is good," she says once she's had a bite. "But Yuma, serious question. Is this the only kind of food you can make? It tastes great, but I don't think I've ever seen you make a meal that wasn't a fried egg and cheese sandwich."

"Yuma can make other foods!" you say. "What about Yuma's grilled cheese sandwich?"

"That's just fried egg and cheese without the egg. It's an easier sandwich to make, it doesn't count."

"When you put it like that, then Yuma cannot make any foods other than that. Well, I can, but they don't look good. Or taste good. Or anything good. Yuma kind of sucks at cooking."

"Well, at least you can make this," Kyoko says, taking another bite. "It's goddamn delicious."

You smile at her praise and dig into your own sandwich.

"So those three girls we met," you say. "What do you think of them?"

"They're super weird," says Kyoko. "Madoka seems like a wimp, and Sayaka's a goddamn idiot, but Homura seems pretty decent."

"That's mean," you say.

"What, is calling Homura 'pretty decent' suddenly mean?" Big Sis says, a sh-poop eating grin on her face.

"You know what Yuma meant," you say. "You just met Sayaka and Madoka, and who knows what will happen if you give them a chance?"

"They didn't seem to like me that much either," says Kyoko. "Or at least Sayaka didn't. She was pretty upfront about it too. "

"Maybe you just got off on the wrong foot," you say. "You seemed off-balance, with how you kept leaning in all close. The two of you were almost nose to nose!"

"Oh, lay off," says Kyoko. Despite her words, she's still smiling at your banter, so you know she isn't seriously offended. "I was being all predatory, you know, like 'rawr, I'm big and in your personal space, be afraid of me,' not flirting around."

"Not even a bit?"

"Not even a bit. I'm not so desperate I'm gonna flirt with girls I just met, especially ones who don't like me."

"And back to that, I still think the two of you could get along if you just try. First meeting, maybe didn't go so well, but that doesn't mean you have to mess up all the ones after it."

"But Yuma, seriously, why should I bother being nice to some bitch who already hates me? It's just a waste of time."

You sigh, setting down your half-eaten sandwich and looking Kyoko straight in the eyes.

"Big Sis, if you don't bother being nice to people, then they won't bother being nice to you. Maybe Yuma's wrong about Sayaka, and she'll be a total jerk the entire time, but what if she decides to be nice? What if she goes to lunch ready to suck it up and give you another chance, but then you act like, well, you? No way will she ever be nice to you again!"

Kyoko shuffles in her seat, looking to the side.

"Big Sis…"

"Alright, fine, I'll hear them out. But if Sayaka's being an ass…"

"Then you can be a worse ass," you say. "But on to the really serious topic. What kind of shampoo do you think Homura uses?"

"Oh, no way is that shampoo," says Kyoko, her grin returning to its rightful place. "That shit is magical, or I'm not Kyoko Sakura."

"In that case, I can adopt you and you'll be Kyoko Chitose, official Best Big Sis. But you really think it's magical? She was so rude when I suggested it."

"Yeah, but she never said no. She gave a bunch of good reasons not to, but we're assuming she's any brighter than the other two."

"But if she's using magic on her hair, she must be doing it for a reason… Do you think she has a crush on someone and is trying to impress them?"

"Oh, she must. But the only question is who…"

"It has to be Sayaka or Madoka, they were the only ones who would have seen it last night."

"Ohhh, this just got good," says Big Sis, grinning ear to ear. "When we go for lunch, we have to tease her about this."

"But what if we get the wrong one and end up looking stupid?"

"Yuma, is that really an issue?"

"What do you mean?" you say, tilting your head.

"I mean we'll look stupid sooner or later, no matter how hard we try to not be. So why not say screw it and do what needs to be done?"

"That makes sense... Yuma will think about it. Speaking of lunch, how long do we have?"

You look over at the clock, happy to see that you have about an hour until lunch. That's just enough time for you and Kyoko to change, get bored and start watching some TV show, realize how late it is, panic, and run to the ramen place.

"I'll go change," you say, and head off to the bathroom with your clothes.

Almost an hour later, you and Big Sis Kyoko are a block or two away from the ramen place, feet pounding on the sidewalk.

"Why did you start watching Pokemon?" says Kyoko, chest heaving.

"Because Big Sis never remembers to tape it, so I won't have another chance to see that episode!"

"Kyoko Sakura and Yuma Chitose, this is Homura Akemi speaking," says a voice in your head.

"You're in my head!" you say, also in your head. "You didn't use to be in my head! How long have you been there?"

"Why not just kill me now, put a bullet in my soul and be done with this," says Homura. "Afterlife can't possibly be any worse."

"Uhh, Homura, are you okay?" says Kyoko.

"....That was not supposed to be broadcast," says Homura. "In any case, I have a question for you. Where exactly should we be meeting for lunch? You never specified."

"Oh, right," you say. "You know, Yuma just kind of assumed you knew. You seem mysterious, you probably know things. We're meeting at the ramen place over by the mall, you know the one?"

"Well, at least your planning skills are on par with everyone else in this city," says Homura. "In any case, I will be there momentarily."

You share a confused glance with Kyoko, before turning the corner onto the ramen place to find Homura herself waiting for you with an icy glare.

"You're late," she says.

"But-you-how?" says Kyoko.

"I am not required to explain myself. If you would follow me inside, I can show you to where Sayaka and Madoka are."

She strides through the entrance, leaving you and Kyoko dumbfounded in her wake.

"No way is she human," says Kyoko.

"She's like some sort of super-advanced human-alien-angel-demon-robot hybrid," you say. "That's how her hair is so great. It's holy, unholy, magical, and futuristic at the same time."

Now all that's left is for the two of you to enter the restaurant and face the (hopefully nice) girls within.
