I don't have any sex jokes for this chapter. No regular jokes either. Zoat plz, I need material.

Onto the chapter: interesting that Cyril is managing to be so civil with this woman. I think he could be a little more assertive (give an inch take a mile and all that), but beyond that minor he's been the perfect gentleman. Grayven is taking a back seat (perhaps for the best...) and now we'll see who the real power is.

For those who have trouble with it, a quote with the godspeech highlighted:

Hmm. Yes. I can feel her.

Not a lot of blatant magic on display. The magic lights are dim, but I imagine that is because the castle is in its night cycle and the queen doesn't want her circadian rhythms to get messed up. But nonetheless, the one who raised this castle has woven her power through every brick, every furnishing. Even with New God technology, I don't have this degree of penetration into the fabric of Challenger Mountain. It's almost godly. I can feel the pressure of it. She almost certainly knows that I'm here and what I am.

We don't appear to be taking a direct route anywhere. Either that, or our host is on the move for her own convenience and we're trailing behind. Is Frimost showing of the place in an attempt to impress us? Faceoff is pretty much just checking the corners for potential attackers -must remember to teach him to check up more- and then ignoring the rest as a distraction. Sir Cyril is looking at points of interest, but I think he's just being polite. He's probably seen plenty of 'working' castles, and his own has been significantly upgraded in recent centuries. His armour's probably buzzing slightly from the surrounding arcane energy but when you can't feel it directly that sort of thing is far less impressive; a substitute for a technologically primitive people.

Not at her age. In her youth she was a club-attendee.
You know, you forget in the moment how the Caligula Club and its entire sordid joke of a storyline is a take off on Britain's government and royals and then you hear something like this. Really? Just... Really? Good heavens Alan Moore has issues.

Now, as to my response to this evening's installment, I suppose that can be summed up as 'This is going to be Good.' Though, not in a Good/Evil sort of way, more of a Good/Entertaining one.

Grayven: "A pleasure to meet you, your Majesty. I am Grayven, God of Conquest, and Prince of Apokolips ."
You forgot a bit there (at which point the Princess perks up)

Is it New God technology that lets them sense arcane energies? If not, I feel "metaphysically inferior" would be a more apt description.
I think Grayven's thoughts were more that Knight and Face Off couldn't feel the shear amount of magics embedded in the castle, so they may mistake the environment as just being technologically primitive.

More likely he's deriding the magic as being a second-rate knock off compared to a simple CCTV system.

How much of the royal family is getting removed by Grayven anyway? If the queen herself took part in it, well, it looks like it's somewhere between "most of them" to "everyone."

Edit: Or were you implying she's a victim of the Caligula Club?

Given how pervasive and ruthless the Caligula Conspiracy (for lack of a better name) appears to have been, I have to wonder if the answer is "all that are left". Because I suspect that any that didn't join in probably suffered from a fatal accident or the like.

...Would bringing up the British Princess Diana be in bad taste?

I suspect that after portraying the British royal family as demon summoning sexual deviants, bad taste is already engaged. And at least saying she was killed to keep her from talking implies relatively good character; not that you exactly need to be a moral paragon to be better than the Caligulaites.

You know who I just remembered we haven't seen in a long time (unless I'm forgetting something more recent)? That gynoid OL helped. As I recall, her ability to want things slowly dissipated when she went a long time without seeing OL (unless that was fixed and I forgot), so not having seen her in awhile could be a problem.

She was getting better as I recall; she was apparently developing her own independent emotions. For example she spontaneously smiled without realizing it until someone pointed it out, despite her emotion emulation programming being shut off.

My interpretation of what was happening is that she was developing like an inverse baby. That is, turning off her fake persona left her with fully developed higher mental functions & the knowledge base of an adult, but no emotions or instincts; the inverse of a baby that is all emotion and instinct but no knowledge or higher level thoughts. She went passive without OL around because without either a programmed purpose or her own emotions there was nothing to drive her.

But, over time she was developing her own set of real emotions to replace her former fake persona. She smiled without a program telling her to fake emotions because she was developing the real thing. Probably a combination of having a soul and her turning off the programs giving the emotions an opportunity to grow.

She leans forward, looking slightly more alert. "You're actually a knight, like my brother was."
Considering what kind of "Knight" Mordred was, I'd say she's right to be cautious!

Now, as for her Mother, her namesake, has she already performed that Fire-ritual she stole from Merlin's "tomb", that was supposed to restore her eternal youth, but was obviously an incomplete rite/TRAP devised by the wizard to keep the Witch-queen in a cycle of perpetual burning agony by having to perform the same rite over and over and over again in order to maintain its rejuvenating effects?

Never underestimate a clairvoyant wizard who can keep one HELL of a grudge, folks!

That very heavily depends on which series of events/telling of the Arthurian legend you give the most credence-for example, depending on who's retelling it, the battle that broke both Camelot and Morgan's forces irreprably (and cost the lives of both the reigning king and the only other current claimant for the throne)happened either hecause of a coldly-calculated betrayal of a truce by the bastard prince-knight, or started as a genuine parly (some claimed a genuine attempt by Mordred to step back and find a less drastic settlement) untill a knight (or possibly even a common foot soldier) was attacked by/almost stepped on a snake, and drew their weapon to kill it- and everyone nearby from the opposing force drew theirs, fearing an ambush...unless were talking about a comic-established version, in which case I'll admit complete ignorance XD
