Then don't ask for my help in future.
Huh? Paul volunteered, because he felt responsible. Why is he acting up now?

Ranakar appears disinterested.
I think this should be "uninterested". "Disinterested" means "unbiased".

I hope Ranx eventually chooses to leave the Orange Corps. We need people that Paul considers MINE to act against his desires. Will that irritation make him choose suboptimal choices? Will he weaken the mental control of nearby Orange lanterns when he is suppressing his desires? Perhaps he will accidentally Orange-ify important (meaningful) items in his subspace pocket.

That last action... It is the biggest show of antagonism Paul could do.

Really, the absolute number one thing Paul wanted from the Guardians was to get a lantern for Alan. He hasn't exactly been subtle about it either. Literally, putting Paul's dear friend and father figure under their control. And they passed. The only reason Paul wasn't seething with rage is because he knew it was coming. It still puts them on his shit list though.

Plus, I don't think the Guardians quite have it in their head that the controllers don't actually run the OL corps. The idea of symbiosis instead of control isn't exactly a train of thought that a mind on green light would jump to.

Which actually explains many of the Green Lantern corps problems. A GL is essentially Judge Dredd,* not the beat cop who knows everyone in the neighborhood.

* Only with being carted to live in an cell instead of killed. Isocubes ho...

Edit, to prevent double posting:

We don't know enough about what it's* builders designed it for. However, we know it desires a flesh and blood crew. I'm not going to say that Ranx won't at some point go OL crazy, just like that's a concern with Mother of Mercy. However, this is a known issue which Paul is actively working to mitigate.

Oh, and can I just say I'm so happy to see Paul interacting with my favorite controller!!!

* Genders are tricky. If you're uncomfortable using "it" to refer to something sentient, there's been a growing trend to use "they" as singular.

I'm pretty sure he stepped through the Plane of Avarice or something (Where ever the metaphysical Hosen of Avarice is).
Honden of Avarice, not Hosen. The former is the part of a Japanese shrine intended exclusively for the kami's use, the latter are German pants.

Edit: HA! It's not a successful ninja if they spelled the correction wrong! Play more MtG!

Think one of the 'rings' in the bolded section is redundant.

Thank you, corrected.

He wished to imply that he had done them a favour.

'Macro', not 'mega'. 'Macro Lantern'.

The Guardians, meanwhile, are assholes who only manage to be as awful as they are because they've got the power to enforce it. Only they aren't the only option, and Paul would love to help give more exposure and PR for the other colors of the spectrum...
(They're not evil, which is nice. They're just assholes. As with the Collectors, I suspect that they will need to start moderating themselves a bit once their power is seen as less singular.)
Eh, I thought they were kind of reasonable. I mean overall, they're right: OL accidentally created a lot of of powerful, unstable people, some of which could and did go on murderous rampages, and his attitude has been (and mostly remains) "Eh, I'll get around to cleaning that up". He's telling the guardians "It's not my fault if they do bad things, Orange Lanters be Orange Lanterns", but at the same time he's using the occasion to recruit for his corps. It's a bit of a diplomatic dick move, especially considering he doesn't really have the negotiating upper hand and they're otherwise cutting him some slack.

After they said "Fuck Scott" and "We don't give a shit about the martians" Paul really didn't want to be there any more.
Yeah, I can empathize with them on that one. Charlie's rule 16: when your decisions affect billions of lives every day, your attention becomes a very precious commodity.

There's no particular reason Ranx has to be a Lantern. I had a whole post written about this that I scrapped, but Ranx isn't particularly suited for offensive combat given its size, mass, and value. It is suited for operating as a ship yard, center for logistical and tactical control, manufacturing center, and all of the people stuff that happens in a city. None of those require it to have a power ring, although it helps, so long as it has access to the capabilities of a power ring through someone else. Really, if it has decent space devoted to fabrication, and some form of FTL drive is added, it doesn't necessarily even need that.

For combat, Ranx should focus near completely on defending itself from outside attack, and let its crew of Lanterns or any of its accompanying ships handle offensive maneuvers.
'Macro', not 'mega'. 'Macro Lantern'.
Fair point. I was thinking 'megastructure', and forgot that the term for Mother of Mercy is 'macroorganism'.

rhanx having a ring would likely help more than having ring users who are crew. First, it's going to be an essentially free FTL, as well as a significant upgrade for most of rhax's systems. Sure you could have a dozen lanterns do whatever rhax asks them to do, or you could put a ring on rhax. If he can handle the mental issues it's an essentially free way to give him a pretty big upgrade.

Get the say @Mr Zoat, I really like how you write your antagonists: the SI knows he's right, the antagonists know they're right, and they both get to make their case until it's clear they just want different things and this won't be resolved by talking. Very appropriate for this premise, and sadly rare in general.

Let's see, carry the two, multiply by infinity... if my numbers are right, Paul needs to completely exterminate at least seven species through his carelessness before he qualifies for a gentle slap on the wrist and a firm finger wag.
