"I assume that we can't just transition around?"

"If it were that simple then I would have recommended it already."

"Mister Dox." Another hole made. "We need to-"

A Dominator soldier steps into the doorway, shots from Medphyll's defence construct being neutralised by a red energy field which flares to life around his body when one hits. He raises his arm-mounted gun.

"-g-!"

There a thump as Dox lands one level down and starts for the next hole, Medphyll hot on his heels.

Then the Dominator shoots me.

Please Paul. You're dealing with professionals. Stop acting like a flight stewardess.

Not aware of the Guardians being telepathic?

Now I'm wondering if that's Zoat weakening the Guardians for this story (in comparison to NE) or Paul's failure to get his DC trivia skill to 100 at character creation. ☺

And didn't the Controllers converse with each other non verbally in front of Paul, suggesting telepathy?

Great chapter (or is "part" the correct term?). I particularly loved:

1. Viril Dox: smart, decisive, asks good questions. He's going to do a good job running the OLC.

2. the way everyone kept cutting Paul off was hilarious.

Thanks, Zoat.

"Do you have any non-construct-based weapons?" I take a cold gun out of subspace and hold it out to him. He frowns very slightly at me. "I am in no mental condition to take part in a fire fight." I shrug and take it back. "Will it kill Psion soldiers?"
"Dominator"

It gets confusing having so many science-motivated, atrocity-committing alien species in one setting, dunnit?

Re: Guardian Telepathy

Paul may not be sure if they're telepathic in this universe. The way the exchange was phrased, he may have been trying to get Medphyll to divulge whether or not they were telepathic. It's something that the Earth greenies may have known in their meat brains, but which might not have been in Paul's stolen lantern database. It is useful information, so when Paul had the opportunity to get Medphyll to maybe confirm or deny, he asked.

I think the telepathy is a form of using the green light to will their prisoner to think about a certain topic then use their attunement to the green light to read their thoughts. Kind of how Paul can bring fourth an individual's avaricious desire by just being around them, or intentionally just like the meeting with the pirates/mercenaries, then read or interact with it.

Given that IIRC Guardians can handle quintessence scans and likely manipulate matter & energy with similar precision, I figured that their telepathy might well be of the "mechanical" variety rather the psionic. Just reaching in, and scanning/manipulating the brain down at the molecular level.

Don't know how to change colors, but when it said Psion did you mean Dominator?

I... don't think he can actually get knocked unconscious while wearing a ring with sufficient charge. Basic life support functions ought to prevent that. Unless these anti-construct weapons include being able to disrupt the basic environmental shield...

Yeah, and Robin once somehow stole Hal's power ring right off his finger. I think we all have a lot of stupid plot trauma that causes fear in us when we see what would usually be the beginning of it. Such as OL being K.O'd, imprisoned without his power ring, then have to rely on his wits! Determination! And plucky side characters only shown in this episode! To get it all back.

Typos: It looks like that should be capitalized.
"against"
Zoat, the "effected" should be "affected".
four, maybe. Not 100% sure that's what you were going for, though.
Sorry, but you wrote Psion again when they were talking about the cold gun.
Thank you, corrected.
