The abdomen contains all of the ship's generator, drive and storage bay while the front part mounts weapons and crew quarters.
"bays", I think.

Of course, if it's probably nothing like as well armed… Some sort of upgraded civilian transport or generation ship?
I'm not sure if that's a question or a statement; if it's a statement the "if" should be removed.

Energy shields cover both types of ship, but only the front part of the smaller vessels and the core of the larger on is well armoured.
"one"

Now… If I went after the Gordanians instead, they'd become more dependant on the Branx for muscle. The Branx are more efficient and lest brutish than the Gordanians.
"dependent", "less"

One of them notices me, his upper eyes tracking me while his lowers ones remain focused on his molecular bonding equipment.
"lower"

Huh. No Thanagarian magic users quite yet. Has anybody read about any hive-mind species that uses magic? Movies, literature, whatever. Not looking for supernatural horror or reality-bending though. Perhaps Magic the Gathering... The only one I can think of is from Chaotica.

Back to the update: does the spider ship have the usual futuristic, sleek inside, the WH40k grunge look, or are we looking at a bioship? We need to know how comparable it is to the Stewart-Ring starship design. If Paul could justify getting a car, then he can justify a starship. T. O. Morrow needs a work station after all.

Since they like to have their new home finished before the even consider moving there, I doubt that generation ships are really a thing for them.
before they even
but only the front part of the smaller vessels and the core of the larger on is well armoured. Pretty much in line with existing records…
larger one is
more efficient and lest brutish than the Gordanians. Still ruthless, but…
and less brutish

lower ones remain
I'm liking these Spider folk so far.

I'm not thrilled about it either. Particular given that it shows the Guilders as actual Spiders, rather than what they actually look like.
What about this Spider Guild ship, from GLC: Recharge?
Thank you, but that's too big and too even-looking.
These seem at odds...
Thank you, amended.
No, Iraq Prime.

The Hosts of Hell from the Castle Perilous series; the individual "demons" are drones of some kind that fade and die when cut off from the whole.

The Dark from Barbara Hambly's Darwath Trilogy are a hive mind.

Goodness gracious me, a mission critical object that isn't warded. I'm starting to like space.

"Nestship responding. If you are contacting us to complain about the deaths of colleagues, or to threaten us, please say so now so that I may stop listening. Also, I do not have a thoumpa, and if I did I am not certain that I would want it elongated beyond it's natural span."

These both cracked me up. It's fun meeting new and exciting species.

They banned magic, which is why they have a mage on their payroll. :p Who, when fighting Larfleeze, mentioned that he once visited something called the Nine Mystic Worlds.

The 5 inversions weren't the only magic civilization they decided to nip in the bud, I understand, but yes, banning magic is quite the exaggeration.

Especially since in Sandman they revealed that Oa's sun possesses an elemental intelligence, it was revealed in Swamp Thing that Oa has an elemental intelligence (When Swampy became a planet elemental, Mars greeted him with words to the effect of "Welcome, little brother. I'm just sorry that our sibling Oa didn't live to see this day."), and oh yeah, the Babylonian Maltusians are magic users.

So the guardians failed to remove magic from their own solar system or species. Presuming that guardians and babylonian maltusians are still the same species, of course.

Plus when a Guardian made the New Guardians, one of them was given magic powers.

Not that I see the Guardians granting many magic powers in this fic. :)

That doesn't say what you seem to think it says.

It said they are dumb, not that they arn't sapient. Unless GL have some sort of codified Lingo I don't know about.

'Low-level intelligences' seems like a bizarre way to say dumb. That, and the fact they're called drones, to me implies subsapience. I'm making that assumption, given how they never seem to do anything beyond attack and die in the source material.

Thank you, corrected.
So, is that particular amount of time because whatever unit of time he used tranlated as such?
Yes.

"bays", I think.
No, just one bay.

"one" "dependent" "lower"

The Empire series had magic-using pseudo insectoids.
Thank you, corrected.

"Lantern. I am pressed for time, and I require a demonstration. You will attempt to protect me from these soldiers. Their lives are expendable. If I still live in two minutes and ten seconds, I will introduce you to the Queen. Do you understand?"

"Tell me when time begins."

"Now."

Identity theft complete.

"Next task?"

While he.. could do that, does that sounds for a moment like something he'd actually do?

I don't think that Grayven would either - he doesn't exactly deny that he can assimilate anyone with an identity/soul, but he tries not to do it when there are that many witnesses around.

The sound of progress my friend!

Goodness gracious me, a mission critical object that isn't warded.
Give it time. The Light is still looking for extraterrestrial trading partners.

"Lanterns are green, you are wasting my t-"
I throw my arms out to the side and generate a large Orange Corps sigil.
"-iiiiiime."
That feeling when you realise this is way above your pay grade.

"To what faction are you aligned?"
"Do you have any relevant experience?"
Do you have references?"
"Who were your previous employers?"
"I'll put you down as 'self employed'
I can see why these guys are called a guild. Even their military commander is an enthusiastic bureaucrat.

You will attempt to protect me from these soldiers. Their lives are expendable. If I still live in two minutes and ten seconds, I will introduce you to the Queen. Do you understand?"
…on the one hand, ruthless pragmatism. On the other hand, willing to risk his own neck along with his soldiers.

While he.. could do that, does that sounds for a moment like something he'd actually do?
Personally I'm expecting minute one to be a replay of his 'fight' with Artemis and minute two to be a replay of his 'fight' with Black Canary. Probably both with commentary.

oh that poor communications worker if he/she where more humaniod he probably would have shat himself when he saw the sigil appear. The please hold was just icing on the cake because you know it was basically code I shall inform my superior officer of your pressence while I go change have a nice day. Of course they aren't humanoid so still funny.

What is it with Bugs in the DCU, The king of tears, his creations, spider guild, the reach are there just no Friendly BUG people?

Has anybody read about any hive-mind species that uses magic?
D&D has examples. The illithids are a weak hive mind, centered around their city's elder brain. Even though they're primarily psionic, they do have actual magic users. Then there are cranium rats, which are a much more traditional hive mind, and which in large numbers simply get smart enough to figure out spell casting. Formians are another, and their hive queens are normally casters. I think a worm that walks technically counts, but usually when people talk hive minds they mean groups larger than the combined mass of a single humanoid.
