Company Actions
[X] IFV UberJJK

The Tiger IFV is good to go and selling well.

[X] Letter of the law. Produce 50,000 Arc Reactors for the Citadel market. Let Lindsey handle the rest of your available production capabilities.

Since you company produces other products you have little trouble choosing to sell only the required amount and allocating the rest as needed. The levels need will be revisited on 2174-Q1.

"To an outsider it may look like we are prioritizing the Tiger over the arc-reactor. Given that the arc-reactor is a higher profit item people might talk." Mr. Freeman muses during a meeting.

"We were founded by a colonist that publicly criticized the alliance's ability to defend its colonies. If we didn't prioritize the Systems Alliance military to some degree we'd also get people 'talking', wouldn't we?" Lindsey points out.

"True, public opinion is complicated that way. I think we can present a good image with the current planned split. A fair amount the sold arc-reactors are going to other Citadel militaries. So while we look like part of the military industrial complex we aren't seen as favoring humanity too much."

[X] Build 3 Factory III's in each of Mindoir's other cities (total: 6), and upgrade the Factory I and II in Landing to Factory III's as well (total: 2). Total Cost: ~9 Billion, ~3 Billion left

Mindoir's other cities welcome the expansion of Paragon Industries and the potential benefits. On the other hand you may need some security outside guards for those new factories. To get security to the same standards as the Landing campus' security you'd need to spend one million credits per building in both initial cost and upkeep.

Invest in security? 1 million per building per quarter (amount will be the same for any "high security" buildings)
[ ] Yes
[ ] No
[ ] Some other amount (More for better security!)

[X] Begin to look into expanding Paragon Industries beyond Mindoir. Specifically, conctac the government/administration of Elysium about constructing production and research facilities on their planet.

Elysium's government seems willing to let you expand there. However, there are concerns that your facilities would be "pirate bait", Elysium has already had to deal with pirate raids. If you do expand there they would like it if you considered security a priority. Anything that would increase general colony security would also be welcome.

Mr. Freeman has noted that being on Elysium would put us on the "front" of the so-called "war on piracy". Which may have political implication on both Terminus space and Citadel space as well as here in the Alliance. In short it may make humanity look even more aggressive and may tie us closer to the Systems Alliance military industrial complex in the public's eyes.

You are free to build things on Elysium If you so wish.

[x] Hire an additional 20 Security Teams on Mindoir to protect the facilities under construction in the other cities. Keep their equipment at normal hardsuits and smallarms for now, to be upgraded to Legionaries later.

You new employees get to work protecting your facilities. They are a little disappointed that they don't get to use the new powered armor right away, but they understand the need for training. The high quality "normal" gear is enough to make each guard worth a few conventional troops anyway. Both of the heads of security for the other cities however encourage you to invest in additional security features outside of guards and a few basic systems.

[X] Peak Human - 30d10+55 + Overflow 1
30D10+55=>233 + 212=445/400 Finished! Overflow+45/2=22.5

Jeff Moreau had to admit that he was quite enjoying what the attendant had called a "floaty chair". It combined all the benefits of a wheeled chair and made it so he didn't have to abuse his bones anymore. Besides floating around was cool even if he wouldn't say that out loud.

Jeff had just gotten though with a round of medical tests in preparation for being one of Paragon Industries' guinea pigs and had been escorted to a spare meeting room to wait. Hopefully this new treatment would fix his chronic skeletal issues. Then he could pursue his life's goal without the ever-present risk of snapping bones.

The room, like most of Paragon Industries, practically oozed high-tech. The equipment was top quality. The computer and extranet connection Jeff was using to entertain himself while he waited was lightning fast. Even the chairs were advanced technological gadgets and probably far more expensive then would be sane for a chair.

"Not that it's bad," Jeff mused as he leveraged the chair's powers of levitation to fetch another complimentary bottled drink.

The door opened letting in a girl and a man in a doctor's coat. The girl was easy to identify Rebecca Shepard, girl genus and inventor extraordinaire. Her introduction merely pointed out the obvious, "Hi, I'm Rebecca Shepard, or Revy is you prefer, this is Dr. Young, he's in charge of the testing for the Perficere project. And you are Jeff Moreau?"

"That would be me. Pleasure to meet you both."

"Pleasure to meet you as well Mr. Moreau," Dr. Young added.

Pleasantries thus exchanged the Doctor began detailing the test's results mostly covering medical details that Jeff was all to aware of. Dr. Young finally got to the end of his review saying, "All things told we'll probably need a full year of treatment to fix the bone structure. That does however give us a lot of time for the upgrade cycles."

"We have several options, the buff superman look has been very popular." the Doctor continued, switching the screen to show a 3d hologram of Jeff, but with the physique of a well muscled body builder.

"Of course we can go all out," the screen showed even buffer Jeff, "or go for something more moderate," the screen switched again showing a build more suited for an acrobat.

"Reflexes," Jeff injected during a pause, "I don't really care about being super strong or tough, just a bit more durable than I am now. But reflexes, agility, dexterity that stuff has high as you can go."

With a few key presses the screen shifted again. The on-screen Jeff changed, still athletic looking but defiantly built for agility. "Yeah like that."

"Well good then. I'll have the treatment setup for that."

After a long silence Rebecca finally chimed in, "I think you're the first male tester that was only interested in a more moderate level of strength, would you be willing to explain why?"

"Well, yeah... how do I explain this? I guess, I'm a pilot at heart. I fly things, even with a crippled body like mine I can fly things. Sure its only been aircars and a shuttles, but for me this," Jeff said taping his chest, "is for putting this," he tapped his head, "in charge of something that can do far more than any human body can do. So unless you can make me into a ship I'm not too worried about physical strength."

"Makes sense, well see about having some fight sims available for you. Hm... ship people... maybe with the new ANI? Then you'd have to..." Rebecca trailed of lost in thought.

Peak Human treatment now available and in testing. SA testing and approval process estimated to last a year. Though you could use it sooner on volunteers that sign a waiver.

[X] CASIE Implant - 70d10+65 + Overflow 2
70D10+65=>499 = 499/400 Finished! Overflow+99/2=73

"Okay CASIE social analyzer test seven.", you stand in front of the machine that holds the latest edition of the CASIE system and deliver your line, "Do these pants make my butt look big?"

Deflect the question by complementing her appearance.

"Well that far better than when it was advising a tactical retreat, running away in terror, or giving up on life." your dad comments.

"Are you sure this is a vital aspect of the CASIE's social analyzer? I don't think that's a question I'd ever actually ask." you question your father.

"Very important. Having the right answer to questions like that can make or break relationships" your father assures you. You're pretty sure he's having you on, but a test is a test!

CASIE implants now available.

[X] Frigates - 40d10+40 + Overflow 3
40D10+40=>276 + 24 =300/300 Finished! Overflow-24=49.

Turns out that space ships are even more complicated than rocket science. Many hours are spent simulating ships and watching as they explode, their virtual crew dies, or yet another thing breaks.

In the end though you think you've got the technology and engineering behind the so-called "Frigate" class covered.

Of course adding in your advanced technology is the best part. Using an arc-reactor vastly drops the need space for the reactor core. Then by adding repulsors you can go fast! Possibly too fast, after taking reality and relativity into account the ships will probably only go 60LY/day at their peak speed. Still that four times as fast as the fastest Citadels ship can do!

Your advanced materials make the hull and armor plates stronger than ever and if you pay a bit more the Arcane Blur plates make it even better! That and a thousand and one minor tweaks, upgrades and improvements make your frigates the best ever, a fact you have scientifically proven.

There is just one small issue.

"It needs guns."

"I know Conrad." you say.

"Not small MA cannons or GARDIAN lasers or other PD or CIWS stuff, I'm talking big guns. The kind that make it clear that you're on the wrong end and don't want to be there." Conrad continues.

"I know Conrad. It's on the to do list."

"Good. 'Cause, it really needs guns."

[X] Improved Warhead - 0d10+0 + 150 Bonus RP
150/150 Finished!

The arms race between offense and defense continues. This time you're going to make contributions to the offensive side.

Using the shield breaching system's eezo you can generate a shield around the missile protecting it from kinetic point defense. Further improvements allow the missile to evade fire as it homes in on its target. Repulsor tech makes the missile faster and safer to the operator. The improved power cell allows the shield breaching system to work on more powerful shields. Finally the actual warhead is upgraded using MHD tech and a few mass effect tricks to deliver more hurt then the previous Pilum.

"It works much better," a research observes after test firing the new missile against a plate of shielded Lorica armor. The plate has a nice hole in it where the missile broke though. "Anything else?"

"Clearly we need to develop better armor."

"And then better missiles?"

"Yep."

Pilum II is good to go. Unless you want to change the name?

[X] Advanced Neural Interface - 0d10+0 + 400 Bonus RP
400/400 Finished!

The brain has an amazing capacity to adapt. Using VI technology you can have the computer even adapt back to a limited degree. With a deep and complex interface the line between man and machine is blurred. This unity of man and machine provides untold of potential scientifically artistically, socially and in ways you haven't even considered yet.

Of course all that makes the first use of it obvious as far as you're concerned:

"You iz going down hume!"

"Not if I kill you first xeno scum!"

Full VR gaming.

Advanced Neural Interface ready for use. It works even better if you put it in you head.

[X] Advanced ME Theory - 0d10+0 + 400 Bonus RP
400/400 Finished!

The science of dark energy is complicated. Getting stuff recognized and published by the scientific community is at least a little easier. VI technology allow the the production of proper reports with far less effort then you imagine people had to use back in the old days.

You and your theoretical team test the boundaries of mass effect science. Exploring the possibilities of your new technologies and the new tests they allow. Mostly putting ever larger amounts of energy into things. You get several papers published. Your work on multiple core interaction receives some note. However it is "Complex Dark Energy Field Effects" which considers the effects of dark energy-dark energy interaction the that gets the most attention.

Enough attention that you get the opportunity to defend it as a thesis. You and your team prepare well and after the presentation is made, the questions answered and the review board has considered things you are now the owner of a paper that proclaims you a PhD of Mass Effect Theory. The Society of Mass Effect Scientists even sent you a pointy broad-brimmed hat with the words "space wizard" on it and suitably adorned with the core mass effect formulas.

You now have a PhD, also you ME tech works a bit better.

[X] Optical Computing 0d10 + Overflow 4
49/800 Work In Progress

The idea to use eezo to increase the speed of optical computing isn't exactly original, but the people who know the tricks aren't telling. You've considered the problem and made some preliminary tests, but other things have consumed your time.

Personal Actions
[X] Look into starting a Private Military Company.

The main barrier to starting a PMC is the paperwork apparently. You can see why so may run themselves out of the Terminus. That said any sane government is going to want some accountability for any force running around with significant firepower.

Who do you want to get your PMC license from?
[ ] Systems Alliance (1.5 million in total fees)
[ ] Citadel (1 million in fees)
[ ] The Terminus (Free because there is no license!)
[ ] Don't start a PMC

[X] Headhunt a research hero (this will not necessarily come into fruition immediately).
-[x] Search for someone with experience in Shielding/Barrier technology, in hopes that we might be able to design shields that can protect against DEWs.

Finding the right kind of people is hard. You need people with that extra bit of capacity. The right intellect, the right mind-set and that somewhat "magical" spark of creativity. So many of them are already employed or involved with their own things and even then you have to separate out the mad men and charlatans from the visionaries.

Humanity is still trying to develop their technology and while at times they can find new avenues that others missed, the other races of the galaxy have far more experience. You best success comes from sources outside the SA:

Gala Da'van is a 320 year old asari scientist that is an expert in electromagnetism as well as plasma. She has some ideas that you think that combined with the options your technology allows could produce new shielding technologies.

Jenzel Fend nar Rayya is a 23 year old male quarian that has done a fair amount of work on what he calls "Impregnated Dark Energy Fields". Or in simpler terms sticking things into mass effect fields and then seeing what that does.

Gaver Dor is a rare Krogan scientist that specializes in high strength mass effect fields. You found out about him by chance when he replied to one of your papers on mass effect theory. He has several interesting ideas on mass effect shielding that would require more power then would be reasonable conventionally.

They all seem like people who could benefit Paragon Industries and from what you can tell are not affiliated with anyone hostile to you.

Who will you pursue? (Choose one)
[ ] Gala Da'van
[ ] Jenzel Fend nar Rayya
[ ] Gaver Dor
[ ] No one

[X] Clean break. Continue as if nothing has changed until he actually ships out.
-[X] But keep in touch and try to stay friends. You're honestly looking forward to hearing stories about his experiences in bootcamp.

"We remember to write, or call or.. whatever." You say, a little unsure of exactly what to say. Your going to miss Brian. He was... a different preservative. In many ways he is just another guy, but he... He could work with you socially. The differences between the two of you socially, mentally, economically... just never became a really noticeable issue. Considering your limited pool of friends that's kinda rare.

However, he has his plans and you have yours. So today you bid him goodbye as he heads out to join the Systems Alliance's armed forces. It far to calm a day to mark such a change. The sky is blue and empty. Isn't is supposed to rain or something?

"Yeah I will." he says, "And you, don't forget to get out and live a little. There's more to life than your tinkering. I know with me gone you'll be missing one of your convenient reminders to get out a bit more."

"Yeah, yeah" you roll your eyes, "Well good luck then, Brian."

"Hey I got some advance training with an N5 that should help right?" he says with a grin.

"Hopefully." you smile back.

"Anyway, goodbye Revy," Brian says, before you exchange a final hug and kiss.

"Goodbye, Brian."

You watch as he boards the shuttle and follow the path of the shuttle up into the clear sky. The weight of half-formed tears in you eyes. Far too simple a day. You bury you more egotistical self's suggestions for weather control technology, now is not the time for that. Besides a few tears that's kind of like a few rain drops isn't it?

You turn to leave after the shuttle is out of sight. Time to distract yourself with some science.

A few days later you get a brief note from Brian about the trials and tribulations of boot camp. Apparently he is "a small step above incompetent" in the eyes of the drill sergeant. Your glad he's doing well.

Systems Alliance Steps Up Anti-piracy Campaign
The Systems Alliance's armed forces have increased again the amount of men and material dedicated to fighting piracy. In addition to several cruiser flotillas, several units of soldiers armed with Legionary armor have been deployed. Some reports also indicate that a new combat vehicle has been deployed.

Admiral Elen Cuerller of the third fleet had this to say, "Pirate and slavers are, if I may twist an old phrase, 'hostis sapientiae generis,' that is enemies of all thinking beings. Destroying them is a service to civilization as a whole. However we must consider the risks to our soldiers in pursuit of such enemies. Recent technological advances have made the risks much lower allowing the armed forces to deal with such enemies more readily. In addition a revaluation of our strategy against pirates and their ilk has determined that a more aggressive stance will produce better results."

Only time will tell how successful this new strategy will be. However, the raid at Ki-til Freeport has shown....

In the Spotlight with Tim Vargan, interviewing Mr. Dallon of the Sirta Foundation
"Obviously the near universal access to gene modding for the next generation is a big deal Mr. Dallon. However are there any aspects you would like to highlight?" Tim Vargan says to his guest seated across from him at a round table.

"While several benefits are obvious, I think its also worth considering what we managed to avoid by making the technology readily available. In twenty to thirty year we were looking at a possible 'genetic gap' as I've heard it called. Where on average the rich had an advantage over those less fortunate due to gene modding. We are fortunate that Paragon Industries developed this technology and choose to distribute it so cheaply. I believe it has prevented such a major social divide. While there may be some that don't choose to use the technology, many of the historical greats didn't need gene modding to be great. Even with gene modding, being great still takes work."

"An insightful point Mr Dallon, there have been some rumors about a biotic adaption gene..."

Salarian Technological Firm Patents New "Thermal Superconductor"
"Technology derived from old research into possible materials used in Mass Relay and Citadel hulls. New breakthroughs combined with large amounts of energy from new arc-reactor technology allows for possible mass production." said a company representative.

The company expects to see the technology deployed to improve many cooling systems and radiators as well as investigating possible applications as an armor material.

Nashan Stellar Dynamics Scandal
Nashan Sellar Dynamics a company that manufactures starship parts, was implicated today in a kickback scandal with high ranking members of the Terra Firma party. Several people have begun to call for the resignation of Inez Simmons the partly leader.

Should the accusations prove true Nashan Stellar Dynamic will be facing large fines and legal fees...

Ms. Shepard,

It may be a little opportunistic, but with Nashan selling off some of their holdings we have an opportunity to acquire something. Nashan's stuff is high quality so I imagine it'd be worth something in the new star ship development plans. Chances are well only be able to grab some product production rights or some technological information. On the other hand the political mess we'd be going near isn't pretty.

Let me know if we want to get involved.

Political Briefing 2173-Q2:
From Laurence Freeman:
Needless to say you and Paragon Industries have attracted more than a little attention on the galactic scale here is the more immediately relevant material.

Systems Alliance
For the Systems Alliance as a whole you're the magic golden girl. You single-handedly fought of a bunch of slavers. You've advanced human technology forward several centuries. In short, you're a famous celebrity. Expect people to pay attention to the things you say and do. You and Paragon Industries have an excellent reputation in the Alliance.

Systems Alliance Military
You're the golden goose that lays the golden eggs. You've given them equipment that is the envy of races that have been in space since before our primary calendar starts. You have more than a little influence with the armed forces.

Terra Firma Party
Expanding arc-reactor sales to the Citadel hasn't made any friend here. However they're a little distracted by the scandal with Nashan.

Mindoir
You're the local hero and control the most locally powerful corporation. Of note here is the possible transition of Mindoir into a formal member state of the Systems Alliance. Paragon Industries' growth is one of the contributing factors.

Citadel Space
In general we have a good reputation as inventors an innovators. Our choice to sell arc-reactors to the general Citadel market has won us some good will. There have been some questions regarding the origin of arc-reactor technology and if humanity is hiding Prothean technology or artifacts. However, this is fairly minor right now. If we continue releasing technology at the rate we have such questions may become more prevalent.

Asari Republics
The tone in the Asari Republics regarding you and Paragon industries is currently cautious. Some think things will turn out well. Others are just waiting for things to blow up. For the most part the Republics are taking the traditional Asari wait and see approach.

Turian Hierarchy
The Turian Hierarchy seems to like us a great deal. The only complaint they seem to hold is that Paragon Industries is a Systems Alliance company nor a Turian one. They have ordered a fair number of arc-reactors and I'd expect them to be entering a major military upgrading cycle.

Salarian Union
The Salarian Union is used to holding a strong technological edge. Several Salarian companies have bought arc-reactors so that they can determine how to use the technology. More pessimistically the STG is no doubt doing its best to get its hands on a piece of every bit of our tech they can.

Terminus
The Systems Alliance is for good or ill on the Citadel side of the Terminus-Citadel line. So by default we're either "the enemy" or at least "those foreigners". That said for most of the Terminus we're sort of irreverent to them for now.

Batarian Hegmoney
They hate humanity and they hate you and Paragon Industries by extension. Tensions have been getting worse between them and the Systems Alliance. Due in no small part to the Systems Alliance's increased activity in the Terminus and Attican Traverse. Many analysts are expecting a major conflict in the area in five years or so.

Pirate/Slaver Gangs
The Pirates and Slavers of the Terminus are well aware of who has armed the Systems Alliance with the new weapons that are devastating them. Hostilities between the Systems Alliance and these faction are growing and will no doubt come to a head before to long.

That's an overview of the major factions and groups relevant to us right now. If I haven't mentioned a group specifically they are probably in line with the majority opinion of the group section they fall under. If you need details or information on a faction I haven't mentioned let me know.

[X] All be kept after passing back ground checks and if they are willing to move if need. (Good PR, cost 750k if moved)

You begin the process of moving the former Shifting Developments personnel over to Elysium. Moving people isn't the fastest thing in the world, but they'll get there and be ready to work one they actually have a place to work.

"Captan Hwan, good to hear from you again." you say greeting the holoprojection of your new employee.

"Ms. Shepard, I've been looking into possible sites for the Elysium expansion" he says, getting down to business.

"Anything interesting?" you ask.

"Two sites other than the capital city stand out, near the city there is a large amount of land for sale that we could get cheap. It's very flat and open. Farther out there is a large granite out cropping. Very solid and large enough that we could build a base into it. We could take advantage of that if we were worried about pirate raids," he says, "The military engineer in me likes the idea of such a base if it's done right"

"Won't help much against a dedicated attack though, would it?" you consider.

"Not much does ma'am. If the guy that has the orbitals whats you dead you tend to die if you can't hide. Even then that might not help."

"Any other issues?"

"Its far out so we'll probably have to construct additional facilities and maybe some housing. Employees might not be as happy if their job is out in the middle of nowhere as well."

"I'll take that into consideration then"

Do you want to grab one of the sites?
[ ] Underground base is go! (Security bonus, additional costs 20 million)
[ ] Big site (+1 factory slot)
[ ] Nah, stay in/near the capital
[ ] Actually let's not expand to Elysium.

-[X] A professional - finding a good one takes time, after all, even with your resources

With Dad:
"Hmm, it' s all kinda complicated isn't it? Each person is going to be a bit different. Ironically the ideal would be not thinking about things you can't change. But at the same time that's a tall order. So, when you can't do something focus on what you can do. Don't lockup on trying to solve something you have no power over. The Alliance's unofficial official policy for soldiers during a drop is to have them sing something. It's a distraction and helps morale. It'd be bad for dropping troops to fixate on the fact that they are a good AA weapon shot away from death." your dad muses as he fiddles at a workbench. You sit near by listening.

"As for afterwards? Do something productive, something you can look at and say, 'I did that'. Me? I like to tinker. Might work for you too seeing what we have in common." he says, "Hand me that wire over there, the number three red would you?"

You pick up the coil of wire and pass it over to your dad, "Thanks" he grabs the wire from you hand, "Want to join in? I'm making a new floating mag-light"

With Mom:
"For me it has helped to have a clear understanding of things I can do and what I can't. I can't fight warships, therefore I should focus on tending to things in the ship I can do. Or preparing for when things change and there is something useful to do. I'm also learned to trust in others, my life is in the hands of someone else. Soldiers can pick up a lot of superstitions, deluding themselves into thinking some minor thing they're doing can magically 'help'." Your mom sits on the other side of the kitchen table mug of coffee in hand.

Your mom's train of thought shifts, her voice dulling, "I saw you focusing on the fight and starting to lockup... I'm... sorry, I..."

You grab your mom's free hand, "Hey it's not your fault. I think fast. I'd hyper focused a few seconds after the first shots hit. Besides it's not like any of us thought that we'd really need to prepare for that sort of thing. Nor do I have any serious military training"

"Thanks Revy." she says with a smile, "I'm glad you're dealing with this is such a mature fashion. I suppose now we do know to prepare. I'd advise some form of training. Your fancy brain machines might be able to VR something."

"I think I could do that."

With: Dr. Kopitar:
"I think Revy that over the last few weeks we have established a good working solution for your difficulties. They are not resolved fully, but what we have done has produced results and in time will produce full closure. Would you agree?" Dr. Kopitar asks, from his chair.

"Yeah, I've got things I can do. I've got people I can trust. Especially people who can tell me to chill if I'm going too far. Brian leaving cut that number down a bit, but I've still got people. I can only imagine what I'd end up like if I didn't." You say, leaning back into the couch in Dr. Kopitar's office, "Worst thing is the occasional nightmare. It makes my mad scientist side, if I may anthropomorphize a bit, go, 'hey you can totally fix your brain so that doesn't happen any more'. Not sure that's the best idea."

"As we've discussed before, I recommend either lucid dreaming practice or meditation. You may find a tie-in to your biotic training." Dr. Kopitar advises.

"It's finding the time for that which is the real challenge."

Much Ado about Arc-reactors
Several groups have approached Paragon Industries about buying arc-reactors outside the standard market sales. First off is Eldfell-Ashland Energy who our are interested in buying a few larger arc-reactors for use in their power facilities. Eldfell-Ashland Energy is a major company and has a large share of the energy market, particularly in fusion power. This is most likely an attempt to adapt to the presence of arc-reactor technology and the possible loss of market share they face.

The Post-Scarcity Society, a multi-racial group that does charitable work and strives to reduce scarcity as much as possible. They take a fairly long view in their goals and a the Citadel's premier charitable group. Some of their more recent work has been to improve the situation on Earth. They would also like to acquire a few larger arc-reactors. They're status as a recognized charitable group also means that any donations of materials could be credited against taxes. Any arc-reactors we sell to them could be counted against the Citadel requirements. Fortunately we included a substitution clause that allows us to substitute one larger arc-reactor for several smaller ones.

Finally the Turian Hierarchy would like to negotiate a discount on several large orders of arc-reactors. These could also be counted against the Citadel requirements. They are looking to buy at least 10,000 arc-reactors per quarter for the next year and half, possibly more.

What shall we do?
[ ] Sell a few large arc-reactors to Eldfell-Ashland Energy
-[ ] How many, in what power and at what price?
[ ] Sell/Donate to The Post Scarcity Society
-[ ] Donate (How many of what power?)
-[ ] Don't Donate
[ ] Give the Turian Hierarchy a discount on their bulk order(s)
-[ ] How Much?
[ ]None of the above

Prothean Artifact
"Liara! How are things going? No more trouble I hope." You say greeting your distant friend.

"We are doing fine Revy. We've reached the Prothean ruins proper. It will take maybe six months all told to get the preliminary work done? How long it will take after that depends on what we find." Liara says with her usual exuberance, "However as I said before we managed to find an artifact that is completely intact. We're pretty sure its a technological artifact based on our scans, though it could be a really strange art piece I suppose... Anyway if you can spare some time could you or some of your researchers look over the scans?"

"Wouldn't it be easier to send it to us?" you ask.

"There are some legal complexities that make that a little more annoying than it would seem at first. If you think it would help after looking the scans I'll have it delivered, but dealing with the scans is far easier." Liara answers, "The laws can be annoying at times, but they help protect the artifacts."

"I'll take a look then if I get the chance then." you say.

[ ] Liara's Prothean Artifact [100]: Liara has scans of an artifact that she'd like you to look at. The actual artifact is a small 30cm x 20cm x 2cm slab seemingly made from a single block of an unknown material. One side is completely flat while the other has a few millimeter deep channels in it as most Prothean technological devices do. Liara believes it may be a Prothean data slate. Total: 210d10+395, average: 1550

[ ] Medium Armor [400]: The early tanks were nothing more than cars with a lot of steel plating stuck to them, the modern armor is a more refined beast, and a beast that would benefit more than a little from your careful touch and keen intellect.

[ ] 5 Meter Mech [400]: You have an old, washed-out shirt that used to belong to your father with the inscription "Giant robots. Because life isn't dangerous enough." Now, you will have them.

[ ] Superalloys [800]: Your new ceramic armor plating was developed to be the best possible without emptying your R&D budget and beggaring your clients. However, as your company grows, the former ceases to be a concern and you can let your mind play wild with all the elements known to Sentience.

[ ] Mk II Suit [500]: Building your armor in easily replaceable components made from your advanced materials lets you make it so much stronger than the MK 1.5 could ever be. It also lets Cortana suit you up, which looks awesome. Adding repulsors in the hands and feet gives you hitherto unimagined maneuverability. (I. Am. Iron. Man! [Well, ceramic man, but the other thing sounds better!])

[ ] AI Licensing Preparation [800]: The Galaxy has not had a particularly pleasant history of interactions with AIs, most notably the story of the Geth is perhaps one of the most ominous tales told in Council Space. Learning how to shut down computers is an essential step to take before any AI research can be started. (Develop EMP and electronic warfare suites.)

[ ] Adrenal Implant [400]: Almost everyone has an anecdote about a mother lifting a car to get to their child, or a man pulling a tree out of the ground to bash in an assailant's head. Adrenaline's power to make people stronger and faster is well documented, and many people have wished it were possible to stimulate adrenalin production safely. Well, now it is. (The implant makes the user faster and stronger for a limited time. Overuse is bad for your health.)

[ ] Miniaturized Energy Weapons [400]: A lot of things go into making a laser, but people have made them for literally centuries, so there are few great mysteries left. The major problem in making smaller lasers is containing the energy. Fortunately, you have some knowledge in designing new materials, and now you'll be making cavities and resonators that will make your competitors weep. (What it says on the tin.)

[ ] Gigawatt Range Lasers [400]: Frankly, you're a little worried about increasing the power output of your laser weaponry by several orders of magnitude. And it's certainly not something you should put on a ground-based vehicle, atmospheres are flammable after all, but as a wise man said: "Mad Science" means never stopping to ask "what's the worst thing that could happen?". (Also what it says on the tin.)

[ ] Flawless black boxing/FRM [3200]: By riddling your technology with superfluous wiring and casing, adding minute self-destructive devises, and shielding it all from all known forms of non-intrusive tomography, you have been able to keep your rivals (and most governments) guessing as to how it is your devices work. Now, you start getting serious about secrecy. (Makes reverse engineering your technology practically impossible to any of the Citadel species.)

Now available
[ ] Plug and Play Skills (800): Want to learn Kung Fu? Here's a chip to slot into your brain. So long as the chip is installed you know what the chip knows once you get used to the new skills. It can also function as a teacher. Only challenge can be finding some one to record the skills from.

[ ] Advanced Prostetics (800): Once you've got wires in your brain giving you robo limbs is easy! We can make them almost in distinguishable from your normal limbs. Or even better. Allows just about every limb type prosthetic imaginable.

[ ] Light Cruisers (<500m) [600]: The increased size of the cruiser class makes things even more complicated. In addition the cruiser class of vessels is usually optimized for different things than fighters or frigate meaning you have to reconsider several design choices.

[ ] Eternal Youth [1600]: Death from "old age" is an issue many races have to face. Humanity has been slowly increasing the expected life span as new technologies allow damaged organs and parts to be replaced. However, the body was young once and if one could reset the clock and regenerate what is damaged old age will not be able to claim a single human life again. The Krogan and Asari prove that it can be done biologically. (Produces a treatment that will make the recipient immune to aging).

[ ] Advanced Xenobiology [800]: You've solved many issue for humanity, now it time to consider how to spread the benefits to other races, as well as considering any unique issue they may have. (Allows the application of human biotech to other races.)

[ ] Extremis (Locked) [1600]: Super nanite enhanced super people, what's not to love? Integrates flesh and machine on a fundamental level applying the best of your technology. May have strange side effects that look kind of like super power depending on the programming. Also Illegal.

[ ] Anti-starship Torpedoes [400]: Warships are big and tough, in addition the environment of space means that one must reconsider the design of certain warheads. All that said it shouldn't be too hard to develop a functional anti-starship weapon. (Develop missiles meant for use against starships as well as a directed plasma burst warhead.)

[ ] Hyper Modularity [400]: Allows the development of parts that can be rapidly substituted for one another or re-arranged. Time depends on the scale of the objects. While not the rapid second or shorter transformations seen in some media the minutes to hours scale time frames are still useful.

[ ] Generation II Arc-Reactor [400]: MORE POWER! Well four times as much. And a ten times that one shot burst mode for about a minute. Mind that basically ruins the palladium core and requires the device to be restarted with only a few days use left. Of course you could just put more palladium into it.

[ ] Total Internal Reflection Systems [1600]: Mass effect fields refract light, thus a strong enough field will produce total internal reflection. Used properly a multi-layered field could be used to produce a double TIR effect making the surrounded object invisible. Stealth! In Space! On the other hand you should probably experiment with this in space. (Allows TIR stealth as well as TIR shields that will reduce laser damage, Requires a deep space lab).

[ ] Quantum Entanglement Communications [1600]: Getting functional FTL data transmission from quantum entanglement isn't easy. This technology has been in development for ages by the galactic community. But it has always been far too complicated and expensive to be useful. However, you might be able to improve on it.

[ ] Multi-core Eezo Systems [800]: Using multiple cores in a ship or other system presents a way to get around the limitations of discharge. Using multiple large cores you could cycle a "full" one out and slowly bleed the charge out while another takes over. Or you could have several smaller cores that don't discharge dangerous amounts of energy when they overload. Beyond that multiple cores allow for several interesting future applications. (Ships equipped with these systems cost more but do not have drive charge limitations)

[ ] Tractor Beams [800]: A relatively simple application of mass effect technology applied to a larger scale. The trick is to make it work at a useful range and cheap enough that its feasible to deploy. (What It says on the tin.)

[ ] Comm Buoy Construction [1600]: Barring a truly incredible leap in other communication technologies Comm Buoys are the best way to get large amounts of data around with low response time. The expensive but critical devices allow the galactic extranet to function and hold the galactic community together. They also are a stepping stone toward making one's own Mass Relays. (Requires a deep space lab)

[ ] Anti-matter Production [1600]: Anti-matter is a controlled substance on the galactic scale. It is also one of the primary warship "fuels", making it quite valuable. On the other hand It makes for some nasty bombs. Anti-matter takes a fair amount of power to make and arc-reactor technology provides that power. (Allows the creation of anti-matter production plants)

[ ] Gravitational Wave Detectors [800]: One of these could have a great deal of value in space if it had long range and could be made small enough. Allowing vessels surrounded by a TIR field to see outside easily and also allowing the detection of such vessels. Not to mention the scientific potential.

[ ] Very Large Space Stations [1600]: People of all races have been proposing giant space stations for ages. Why not develop and build one? They're not quite citadel sized, but they're far bigger then any race would normally build. (What it says on the tin)

[ ] Basic Vehicle Scale Weapon Mods [200]: Weapon mods are been used by infantry to fine tune their guns for the task at had. You can do the same for vehicles scale weapons.

[ ] Small Ship Scale Mods [800]: Applying weapon mod technology to starship scale weapons should provide several advantages to the owners of such technology. Mind you'd need to upgrade the guns to use the tech. It also wouldn't be particularly fast to swap the mods out without specialized support systems (Allows the production of Starship Ammo/Weapon Mods and Modable Mass Accelerators)

[ ] Advanced Ammo Mods [600]: Some ammo mods are simple, others are rather complex. Items like warp ammo and cryo ammo aren't simple so applying them to larger weapons will take some more work. Also upgrades the basic ammo mods.

[ ] 200m MAC [200]: Interestingly making larger linear accelerators is a fair bit more complicated than just making them longer, magnetic saturation, feedback and interference are all issues that must be considered. In addition the tech could do with some updating to handle recent technological advances.

[ ] Optical Computing [49/800]: If you can commute with light and can make light go faster than you can compute really really fast right? The basic idea is sound, but the precision timing of computational components means that you need to make sure you don't screw the timing up. Also being able to make the speed dynamically adjust would be useful.

(Available until 2173-Q4, results unknown)

Conrad's Special Projects
[ ] The invisible man [100/400]: The stealth system that was installed in the prototype the Berkeley students presented at the power armor conference was not good enough to fool Alliance security, but then it was Conrad piloting the thing. While working on your advanced ceramic, you've had some ideas of your own on how to incorporate digital camouflage at a fundamental level. (Make near-invisible versions of your vehicles. Sound, thermal and radar detection will still be issues, but issues exist to be solved!)

[ ] The black fucking gun [400]: Conrad knows pretty much how the "Black Hole Gun, but not really" that they entered into the competition works. It does, however, have more than a few safety issues, and you really don't want a gun that will make General Alexander call you and ask what the hell happened to his entire right flank. The core idea is good, but the problem is that Conrad, smart though he is, is very bad at adapting his designs to the constraints posed by reality. (Build the M-490 Blackstorm, though you get to pick a new name for it if you'd like.)

[ ] Time is an illusion [???]: Have Conrad and his team continue the work he started in his dissertation. Time manipulation of any kind would be pretty awesome, but this is as bleeding edge as research gets, and you have no idea what's on the other side, or how far away it is. (This may or may not give you limited control over time. It may or may not have other prerequisite techs.)

GM's Note: Uggg... writing all those tech things was a pain... *checks stats* Holy shit, 19 pages! 8200+ words?! Umm yeah wow. Okay then. Well all the usual I guess. I'm hoping to get the new starship cost/production figures hammered out soon. I'm currently considering numbers around one-tenth the ones I first guesstimated for military ships and civilian ships being 100-5000 times less that that. Also I'm planning on getting a tech release/security status sheet put together. I hope this meets expectations, though I admit that after a point the length got to me. Also I think I collected all the votes scattered in the update into one spoiler at the end. Additional GM question: I've been avoiding abbreviating company names in the text save when a character would say/think that way. Does any one really care if I use abbreviations instead?

Edit: Put techs into a spoiler.

Invest in security? 1 million per building per quarter (amount will be the same for any "high security" buildings)
[X] Yes

The additional funds go a long way to making the other sites secure.

(Security update in progress)

Who do you want to get your PMC license from?
[X] Systems Alliance (1.5 million in total fees)

PMC Name?
[X] Paragon Security Solutions (ParSec)

Paragon Security Solution or ParSec is now licensed with the Systems Alliance. You may sell the services of units employed by ParSec to individuals, groups companies and governments in Systems Alliance space, Citadel space, and else where if they'll hire you. Remember that such companies often live or die on their reputation. Contracts to defend sites are far less likely to bring bad PR as long as you do a good job.

Also acquiring a commander of some sort might be good idea.

Who will you pursue? (Choose one)
[x] Gaver Dor

"You've got you head screwed on straight, Doctor Shepard. I think I can work with you", Gaver Dor says, "Just an advanced notice I tend to toss a fair bit of my earnings toward the Krogan Science Council. Closest thing Krogans have left to a university, and with no taxes all the money comes from donations and the occasional patent."

"I don't think that'll be an issue." you say, "Its good to see that some of the Krogans have kept the sciences alive."

"Alive as in on life support, going into cardiac arrest repeatedly, and with near zero hope of recovery," Gaver snorts, "'Krogan scientists are more rare than celibate Asari', isn't just some pithy saying."

Gaver Dor, Research Hero
Specialization:

High Power ME Effects.
Technologies available:
Warp Barriers
Stasis Plates
As a researcher:
+5d10 (counts as a full 10d10 for bonuses)
Improves to 10d10 if working on a tech that primarily involves the Mass Effect/Eezo/Dark Energy
Researcher Pay:
450,000 credits/quarter
Additional:
Gaver Dor is also a powerful combatant, should it ever come up.

Will you try to acquire anything? (Choose one)
[X] Ship weapons components (400 million credits, 200 points to next level of MAC tech, Bradley now gets 260,000 per Production)

"Well I think we've clearly announced our intentions to the galaxy that we'll be making warships soon." Lindesy observes, "Question will be how soon we can build them and find buyers. Alliance has been using longer running contracts in the ship building industry to promote stability."

"So we can't just step in with vastly better ships and have them buy from us?" you ask.

"We've been fairly lucky with the Alliance choosing to upgrade when it did, letting us come in with a new product. This time it'll most likely be us with a new product first. Stability in he ship building industry saves the Alliance billions, if not trillions of credits. Not to mention any back door dealing going on. If we show a far superior product we'll probably get the new contracts, but it may take a few years for all the old ones to run their course."

"The longer contracts are good for us in the long run, right? Its guaranteed income as long as we can deliver and more value for the company."

"Quite right, though with the sums of money involved the politics are going to be... fun. We may want to consider our political ties." Lindsey advises, "Billions and trillions of credits don't get spent without Parliament and the various budget committees debating them to death."

Lindsey pauses thinking, "We may see more success selling upgrade packages for existing ships at first. Most warships have an expected service life measured in decades, the ships that fought in the First Contract War will most likely serve for another twenty or more years, although upgraded far beyond their original abilities. In addition, upgrade packages are cheaper and thus far more palatable politically."

Do you want to grab one of the sites?
[X] Underground base is go! (Security bonus, additional costs 20 million)
-[X] Look into large-scale kinetic barriers, both for our lab complex and the nearby capital city. Also look into sponsoring a GARDIAN array and advanced power station, if they don't have one already.

Laser equipped robo-miners quickly bore into the granite of the new Elysium base. The design has been specifically set up to maximize defensive benefits. In addition the plans have some housing for the workers at the remote site as well as a shuttle service to the capital.

Given the distance from the capital you are allowed to enforce your own airspace, so long as you keep with in the laws of Elysium and the Systems Alliance. As for defenses at the capital the would welcome an investment into their defenses. The capital and the other major cities already have a GARDIAN system, but the are open to the idea of strengthening it or adding a barrier system. Of course the leads to the fun part of figuring out who pays what and who owes what.

As it stands Elysium can only afford about 100 million credits per quarter for both repayment and upkeep on any new equipment.

What will you do?
[x] Stop investigating
-[X] This is starting to become a waste of our time and money. Thank the Shadow Broker agent for his/her time, but the information is just not worth what he or she is trying to charge.

Well it's your call. If you need information I'm at your service. Just recall that knowledge is power and power is never cheap. Especially when we are being offered money not to sell things.
-Ribbon

What shall we do?
[X] Give the Turian Hierarchy a discount on their bulk order(s)
-[x] 10%

"I'd rather not be selling to the Turians to be honest." Lindsey says.

Your fancy new CASIE implant reminds you that her father died in the First Contact War, there's some blood split here. "Call it an experiment, they can buy the arc-reactors one way or another, this way we can see if the Turians will acknowledge a debt."

"Well based on the current political climate they'll pay it back. Turians as a species are fairly straight forward about things like that. Mind they might pay back any debt in creative or unusual ways, people can be complicated like that." Laurence observes, "They dislike the Batarians more than any of the other Citadel races. They could be a useful ally if thing go hot with them."

"Is that so?" Lindsey asks.

"Turians prefer law and order. Batarians tend to offend that sensibility. So yes the Turians don't like them at all. I hear that the Primarchs had a quiet 'party' when the Batarians formally left the Citadel."

Interview
What type of interview? (You can if you wish review any type of interview before publication.)
[X] Video

Where will you do the interview?
[x] At the Paragon Industries complex
-[X] Stage the room correctly: Revy in a labcoat. Computer interfaces and holograms of already marketed PI -products floating scattered in the background that Revy can control with her implant when speaking about them (and some of the science behind them) to illustrate her explanations. Maybe stage inside her workshop, though obviously not with any current research right out in the open.

Part of you wishes it would have been proper to wear you wizard hat, but that would be a bit too silly. You lab space is set up to look appropriately sciency. The interviewer, one Martin Janssen, is very helpful giving some extra tips before starting.

What got you into science and engineering in the first place?
[X] Mostly through my dad. My father and I have been tinkering with things for as long as I can remember; some of my earliest memories are fixing broken farm equipment or 'improving' some of our household appliances. At first I was happy just learning to build more and more complex things, but as I grew older I started wanting to know how the things we were building worked and why they worked one way and not another. So diving into science was a natural outgrowth of that.

"And your mom?" Martin asks.

"She was the bastion of common sense. 'No Revy, additional pressure and heat do not make things cook faster'," you say with a smile, "me and dad got up to some silly things if she wasn't there to ground us, literally and figuratively."

"More then a few stories there I'd guess?"

"Definitely, let me tell you about the Noodle Incident..."

Where did the idea for the Legionary armor come from?
[X] The Legionary armor was originally just a test bed for the Arc Reactor. When I had been building my first Arc Reactor, I needed something that could draw and use enough power to push it to the limits. Given just how much power it could produce the only thing I had was an old hardsuit my dad had bought for my thirteenth birthday to play around with.
-[X] Even that however wasn't capable of drawing enough so I needed to modify it further. One thing lead to another and before I knew it the hardsuit was halfway to becoming fully fledged battle armor. At which point I just decided to actually make it into battle armor; I've never really been one to leave things half finished.

"So that's the original suit then?" Martin asks.

"Yep the first one. Would probably still work if it had a reactor."

What can you tell us about the arc-reactor (and/or other PI technologies)?
[x] Basic technical details.
-[X] Try to get hints from Nova Mark as to how technical to get; this is a show for the public after all, not a science symposium.
-[X] Mix in some anecdotes and funny stories from research process.

As you begin discussing details you can tell that Martin has a keen mind. He is understands the technology well enough to translate scientific jargon into understandable information for the interested amateur.

What do you think the effects of the arc-reactor will be on society?
[X] I think it will be profound and far reaching.

And on the military?
[X] Well there are the obvious massive increase in kinetic barrier strength but I think we should talk about the less obvious but far more important effect.

"The logistic effects will no doubt be significant, an important thing to keep in mind for the future. In away this might look something like the change over from oil to fusion."

"Probably more so, the arc-reactor makes fuel a very minor factor. Fusion still needs Helium-3 after all even if it is better then oil in term of efficiency."

What should we expect to see next from Paragon Industries?
[X] Smile and say that we do have several projects in the works but they are a surprise.

"Well I look forward to the surprise".

Who's you favorite historical scientist?
[X] Lomonosov

"He's was a polymath." You say, "Not just in the sciences, but he did art as well. I'm really good at what I do, but he did practically everything and he did it well. I can respect that."

Reviewing the edited interview, you find the results satisfactory. You're made yourself a little less of a mystery to the public. On the flip side you now have more people asking you for interviews and stuff. Good thing you have Cortana to sort though your mail!

Company Actions
[X] Produce 15 Accipiter Drones - Atmospheric Edition (4,800,000) allocating 7 to our Landings location and 4 to the other two Paragon Industries sites.
-[X] Show off our new Deathbots to Kasumi
--[X] Apologize that there are no chainsaw katanas.

Ah Deathbots! There is something about them that just seems right. More of them would be good. Fly my pretties fly!

"Of course there aren't any chainsaw katanas, those go on the people shaped deathbost! The small flying ones just need to fly around an go pew pew! You're a silly mad scientist. You'd be lost if it wasn't for my advice!"

[X] Buy three sets of Reconnaissance Drones (3m + 300k/quarter)

Capable of patrolling all day save for maintenance Recon Drones offer a major boost to security. You may have to consider making your own, you're sure you could make them even better.

[X] Expand our partnership with Sirta to include enhancement services for Magi Biotic Amp, basic/advanced neural interface implants and Peak Human treatment, when available. Allocate 1 billion credits to a fund to aid in this project however necessary.

Sirta is more than willing to expand your partnership.

Of note here is upgrading the L2s to the Magi Implant. The SA military has gone ahead and payed for all of the soldiers who have them and are willing. However a political argument has started over whether the government should pay for others.

You could get involved with this some how or pay for them yourself out of the billion credit you put aside.

What will you do about the L2s?
[ ] Stay out of it
[ ] The L2 implants where in part a government project and thus they should pay.
[ ] You'll pay, it's tax deductible and thus the government is paying anyway.

[X] Set up quarterly bulk transport of one-time pads for secure comm encryption from headquarters to factories and for bi-directional data transfer between lab complexes allocating 2 million per factory per quarter and 4 million per lab per quarter to facilitate this (28m this quarter)

Well unless someone can sensors that can read data out of your machines your communication should be secure from the technological side. Now all you have to worry about is the human factor.

[X] Arrange to sell five 150GW Arc Reactors to Eldfell-Ashland Energy next quarter at 3,750,000cr each and inquire into whether or not they would be interested in a more long term arrangement.

Eldfell-Ashland Energy is very interested in acquiring more arc-reactors. What sort of long term arrangement would Paragon industries be interested in?

EAE would like 50 150GW arc-reactors. Then maybe 3-4 per year after that.
[ ] Deal? (Write -in)

[X] Patent the Repulsor in Alliance space. Same deal as with the Arc Reactor before, and with the same expectation, that we will eventually be going to the Citadel with it within a few years.

You patent the Repulsor with the Systems Alliance. They however, say that you are to make no civilian sales of this technology at the current time. (They also would like it if you didn't sell any IFV lasers or advanced combat VI to civilians either).

Going to the Citadel might be a harder sell this time.

[X] Start that Private Military Company. Allocate 200 million for extra-large barracks, admin building, and training facilities.
-[X] Hire legal, admin, and marketing teams for our PMC. Set new teams to work gauging market demand for our services.

There is plenty of demand for all sorts of PMC services. A lot of it comes down to the force you have to offer and the type of job you are looking for. In the near future your most likely to see site protection contracts (most likely for colonies), event security contracts, and raiding or assault contracts in the Traverse and Terminus of varying moral and legal quality.

[X] Offer to donate ten 150GW Arc Reactors to the Post-Scarcity Society this quarter and every quarter afterwards for as long as they are interested. (15m loss per quarter)

The Post-Scarcity Society do not expect their need for power sources diminishing anytime soon and welcomes your donations. The Society sends you a nice plaque acknowledging your donations and also extends an invitation for you to attend their yearly convention where the society and other charitable groups discuss issues, project and such things (occurs 2174-Q2).

[X] Begin work on establishing an Underground Base on Elysium (3,469m)
3x Factory III - 1,000m
1x Lab I - 20m
1x Research I - 20m
1x 150 GW Arc Reactor - 1.5m
1x Barracks - 10m
1x Admin Building - 10m
1x Basic Security Measures - 250k
1x Perimeter Sensors Suite - 250k
1x Reconnaissance Drones Set - 1m
1x Advanced Security Measures - 7.5m
4x Research Teams
15x Security Teams
1x Legal Team
1x Investigation Team
Yes an underground base! One more thing off of you thing to do if I ever get rich list. Sadly it is not a volcano. Other then that under the talented leadership of Captain Hwan construction goes well.

[X] Begin construction of 3x Factory III (3,000m) and a Barracks (10m) with 5 security teams in each of the other cities on Elysium. (9,030m)

Capitalism Ho! (What else do you want me to say?)

[X] Hire marketing teams for new products and services:
-[X] Develop a marketing plan for and prepare to sell Arcane Blur stealth armor for fighters, Tiger IFVs, and upgrades to weapons/armor systems for current Alliance hardware.
-[X] Develop a marketing plan for and prepare to sell Veles civilian-grade armor, developed in Slayer Anderson's omake. None is military-grade, so it can be sold to all Citadel races (pending legal approval). Include options for nonlethal weapons and wrist-mounted SMGs, especially for the larger variations.
--[X] Will probably need to hire additional marketing teams and design teams to compete effectively in the civilian market.

Marketing could indeed use more personnel. 500,000 credits per quarter more would be nice. And then of course we need ads and other such things! People can't buy what they don't know you have. Having at least a few million to spend on ads would be great.

-[X] How did that game design come out? Can we hire a creative team to continue development on these lines, maybe spin off a subsidiary focused on code products (games, VIs, etc)?

Misaki's early life was marked by misfortune and ill-luck. Crippled at an early age by a virus it was a miracle that she could use her arms as little as she could much less her legs. She was thirteen when she was first introduced to the game.

Getting the neural interface band on her head hadn't been easy, but the ability to use it while working though the menus was worth it. Her family's small house hold fabricator worked on the avatar she had designed. Hikaru she had chosen to call it.

With a electron beep the fabricator finished its work. The small doll stood only fifteen centimeters high. Misaki grinned, this should work and it was going to be awesome.

Link Started
Handshake Confirmed
All Systems Green
Safeties Cleared

And Misaki was a 15cm doll sitting in her family's fabricator.

She stood and hopped out of the fabricator. She could walk! She walked and ran, jumped and tumbled over the counter top exalting in the joy of mobility as she learned to control the small doll.

"Awesome!" she exclaimed. She could talk easily using the doll's voice! No more struggling with nerves and muscles that didn't want to work!

And now for the final test. The part that had cost her the rest of her saved up allowance. The doll ran over to a set of small bottled waters set at a easy height for Misaki to reach. The doll glowed blue as it picked up one of the bottles and ran it over to Misaki's still body. The doll placed the bottle into a holder on Misaki's chair and removed the lid.

"Hmm... oh a straw, that'd help." The doll then jumped over to the straws and retrieved one, using its element zero abilities to for maximum mobility.

"Misaki, do you need any help?" Her mother asked as she walked into the room.

"No mama, I'm fine! See look at what Hikaru can do!" Misaki said showing off her new toy.

The game turned out quite well, Misaki is using an advanced interface here.

--[X] Set up a division responsible for working with VIs. We already have code-monkeys - organize them, get more, and put them to work. Our improved algorithms are a major breakthrough, with dozens of applications even if we don't want to freely distribute our full-fledged Security systems and the like. This division will be responsible for creating VIs and operating systems for a variety of products: military, police, medical, industrial, and commercial. Other companies can build their products, and license a Paragon Industries VI/OS to run them. We can have standard line to replace some widely used ones for common products, we can create specific ones on request, etc.

Selling VI products is a good way to make money without using up factory time. Starting off you make an additional 50 million credits. With time (and advertising money), this number should go up. Potentially into the billions depending on the products and the market.

[X] Hire more investigative teams this quarter, to handle the following:
-[X] Have our people look into starting a construction company, or at least putting together a construction and maintenance division at PI. These days we're just building constantly, and since we're doing it constantly it's better, more efficient, and more secure to just hire/vet a permanent construction crew.

There's nothing really stopping you from forming a construction company other than filling out the paper work and getting its stamped (or e-signed or whatever needs to be done). The main issue is that most construction companies are either local or owned by big companies. PI may wind up shipping stuff around and that costs credits and hiring a local company or using a branch of a larger one may be cheaper in the short run and possibly in the long run. On the other hand it works out okay for EAE, but then they build entire colonies.

Feel free to take a corporate action to form a construction company and tell me how you plan to use it!

-[X] Have our people look into proactive recruitment. We may be coming up against the limit of how many ex-Marines we can hire, so we may need to start an Academy of sorts to train new security personnel.

There are a lot of ex-marines, and plenty that can be hired for security. On the other hand expanding your hiring pool might be good and an academy for your PMC would make the PMC far more organized.

I'll add in some academy buildings. Now to figure out how to price that too!

-[X] Have our people look into other expansion opportunities; I want to be able to start building factories and labs as soon as we have the cash. Maybe Terra Nova next? Beckenstein would be a good place to plonk down Factory IIIs exclusively to make Arc Reactors for Citadel races.

Most new colonies would be fine places to expand. New colonies rarely have a reason to deny one access. Terra Nova has cheaper raw materials which should make goods cheaper to produce there. Beckenstein on the other hand is close to the Citadel and is protected in part by the Citadel Fleets due to its location. Neither would have reason to prevent your expansion there. The question becomes what do you want? (In the OP there is a link to some SA colonies of note.)

-[X] Have our people look into the legalities of arming orbital shipyards for use as a planetary defense platform. Especially around Mindoir.

The legal ins and outs of the situation are many and varied, but your legal team summarizes the restrictions as, "Nothing that can bombard the planet in close orbit, and don't interfere with the flight paths for ships." (The armed space factory/station variants are fine.)

[X] Arrange for a 12 month Corporate Loan of 36 billion credits assist in financing our expansion.

Getting a loan is surprisingly simple. For some reason you had though the process would be more complicated. Oh well you now have a 35 billion credit loan for 12 months with a 3.9% interest rate, compounded continuously. You can pay the loan or part of it off early, but the full amount is due at the end of 2174-Q3.

[X] Build a Single Product (5GW Arc Reactor) Space Factory II above Mindoir. (25 billion)
[X] Build a Specialized (Infantry Weapons) Space Factory I above Mindoir (5billion)
[X] Build a Specialized (Small Drones) Space Factory I above Mindoir (5 billion)
[X] Build a Specialized (Starships) Space Factory I above Mindoir (5 billion)

Four new Space Stations begin to grow over Mindoir. Each a clear sign of Mindoir's transition from farming world to a major industrial center. Mindoir's future looks bright.

100D10+260=>830 + 49=879/800 Finished! Overflow+79/2=39.5

Computation can be done in many mediums, in fluids, using gears, electrons. However the existence of the mass effect and its ability to manipulate light make optical computing extremely attractive. Using mass effect fields to effect light allows for massive potential increases in computational ability.

The increases would help with both simulations and large problems sets. You can even run Crysis X: The Extreme Definition Remake on the highest settings! Well at least until the release a new patch with even higher settings.

You now have access to optical computing, the cutting edge of computing! +10 RP per die bonus and all that.

[X] Hyper Modularity [400]: 70d10+65 (98.23%)
70D10+65=>473 473/400 Finished! Overflow+73/2=76

As you watch a house is rapidly assembled from panels. In less than half an hour a small home stands with running water light and the usually amenities.

"Its like a video game." another observer comments.

"Yeah or legos or something."

As neat as the development is the modularity come at a cost. The extra linkage points require more material and the increased flexibility comes at the cost of efficiency. That said it does make upgrading easier and the benefit of being able to build and design your own... whatever is amazing. Of course there are more selective uses such as the ability to make ships that have flexible mission segments that can be quickly and easily swapped out. Say replacing a cargo bay for a fighter bay? One for long range cruises the other for heavy combat.

You can make things that are extremely modular. How modular with effect both cost and efficiency.

[X] Liara's Prothean Artifact [100]: 0d10 + 50 (Well, if it ain't broke . . .) + 50 (The Accipter) (100%)
100/100 Finished! Pooled RP-100=100

You sit back in your chair staring off into space. Before you is a holoscreen showing a pair of exploded mechanical schematics.

"Hey Revy!..." Conrad says as he walks though the do, the diagrams on the holoscreen distracting him almost immediately.

"Hey, Conrad. Great, look at those two diagrams, tell me what you see." You say.

"Well the one on the right... that's an exploded diagram of an arc-reactor. On the left..." he pauses looking at the diagram on the left for a few moments. Then he begins looking between the two diagrams.

"Okay I don't know what the one on the left is. But that," he points to part of the leftmost diagram, "Is an accumulator chamber, much like that," he says pointing to part of the arc-reactor diagram, "Or at least it looks like it might be. So the entire thing is probably a generator?"

"I came to the same conclusions. That components design is too much like parts of the arc-reactor for it to be chance." You say.

Conrad grins, "What is it?"

"As far as I can tell its the power core of a Prothean device Liara asked me to look at."

"So Protheans used arc-reactors?"

"No," you shake you head, "They may have used something vaguely similar, they apply similar bits of physics. About the same as comparing a steam engine to an internal combustion engine, both use expaning gasses. However, the systems uses eezo and dark energy is not helpful for arc-reactor operation. Somewhat detrimental over some power levels. Which to me says that this power core would never work as well as an arc-reactor. I'm not really sure how it works exactly, I have a few wild hypotheses."

"So, arc-reactors are better than what the Protheans used?"

"Pretty much." You say with a satisfied grin. "As far as I can tell the generator design is a curiosity at best in the face of what the arc-reactor can do."

"Of course the best part is this," You say, causing pats of the diagram to collapse. "As you can see the accumulator chamber is fairly close to the surface and the material used in that part is semi-transparent to x-rays. Part of what allowed the scans to get such a good picture. I'd bet that bombarding the accumulator with x-rays would jump-start it."

"But that wouldn't be enough to make it work would it to get any power you'd need other systems to work. Right?"

"Ah, but you see," you alter the diagram more putting the wires back where they belong, "The wiring for some odd reason forms circular pattern right around the accumulator. Wires that have no reason to pass though the area."

"Induction!" Conrad exclaims, "You could make a fairly small tool that would restart the generator. It's nicely set up to do that."

"That was my hypothesis. Mind we still need to find the right wavelengths, voltages and the like but I think that can be done."

You can now turn on some deactivated Prothean artifacts.

[X] Train Biotics
+2 Training actions from Omakes

The first step for a Biotic is learning to use the eezo nodules in the body. Lucky biotics can do so instinctively. Other have to resort to methods ranging from stimulation therapy to bio control exercises.

Activating your nodes is just the first step. After that you have to learn to activate them together in complex patterns. The Magi implant and amp help with both. You observe the changes to both your nervous system and the Magi's VI as the learn and grow together refining your biotic abilities. The data is very interesting, and properly visualized produces an interesting holographic image for you lab.

The first two biotic arts are generally called "Biotic Agility" and "Biotic Stability", the first requires the biotic to make them self lighter allowing them to jump higher, move faster and be far more mobile than would normally be possible. Mastering this also combines well with your Parkour abilities. Though for safety's sake you do most of your early tests in a well padded room. Biotic Stability on the other hand is the opposite increasing the biotic's mass making them harder to move and producing a weak shielding effect making them harder to harm.

Together the two effects push even a normal biotic into the realm of the super human.

Next on the list of basic biotic abilities is "Biotic Fall" which is the fine art of making your self light and using a repulsive effect to make yourself fall slower. Seemingly basic this skill is related to both levitation and the complicated skill of flight. The hard part is getting two fields going without causing issues and projecting one externally. This skill combines well with Biotic agility allowing one to survive the large jumps one can make.

This then leads to basic Telekinesis, seen in almost every being that has biotic abilities some claim this is where the name biotics comes from, "BIOlogical telekineTICS" which is as good an explanation as any other. Regardless of the name being able to move small objects is next on the list of things to learn. Your training makes you fairly comfortable with using the skill, however you have a long way to go be for you reach the level of instinctual use that some have. This also lead to far far to many Star War references.

To round out your biotic training binge you learn how to produce a weak barrier. You can only project it for a short time, but with training, if those online videos are right, you could make a barrier strong enough to take hits from missiles. Not your missiles of course.

Your rate of biotic development is incredibility fast, no doubt due to the Magi and your own awesome brain. Rahna again recommend getting a biotics trainer from another race. You're fast reaching the point where she won't have much more to teach you.

"I'm up! I'm up!" You look around your room, "Umm.. Hi mom, what's up?"

"Are you okay Revy?" You mom asks, worried. "You were staring off into space... and drooling."

"Umm... oops." You say as you try to wipe away some of the drool. Your new CASIE implant helpfully suggests that you explain what happened and then suggest a solution. "I guess I got to caught up using my new implant and lost track of time. I suppose I should add an alarm or limit or something like that so I don't get to distracted."

"Revy, sometimes," she sighs, "You really need to find someone to look after you." She chuckles, "Me and your father aren't going to be around all the time."

Interstellar Expansion Part Two
Interstellar Expansion Part Two
2173-Q4

Selected News For 2173-Q3:
Attempted Assassination of Claude Menneau
Claude Menneau, one of the two candidates for leadership of the Terra Firma Party, escaped an assassination attempt by one of his guards and the pilot of his ship. Mr. Menneau credits his survival to the arc-reactor powered shielding he had recently obtained.

"While I am not 100% behind her politics, I can definitely say that Dr. Rebecca Shepard delivers a good product."

Both the pilot and guard were killed and no leads regarding who was behind the assassination attempt have been found yet.

"I'm not saying it was my opponent, but I have little doubt the attack was politically motivated" said Mr. Menneau

The polls now show Claude Menneau with a five point lead over his opponent...

Kassa Unveils New Guardian Angel System for Arc-Reactor Powered Armor
Paragon Industries' Legionary Powered Armor has an impressive power budget and Kassa Fabrication's new Guardian Angel System put that to even better use. Each pair of units is a high-powered shield generator that interfaces with the existing shield system. Not only does each pair add one and half time the base Legionaries' shielding ability, but the system allows for these shields to be projected. Thus the soldier equipped with the system can protect injured comrades, critical targets, or civilians. In addition it turns the soldier into mobile terrain allowing them to block choke points and prevent passage.

Each unit plugs into one of the legionaries' shoulder mount slots allowing for flexible battlefield reconfiguration.

Pirate "Fleets" Sighted in the Terminus
Pirates usually operate in small groups and only congregate around pirate ports and trading areas. However, in the last few months pirate forces in the Terminus and Traverse have grouped into fleets.

Most credit this phenomena to the increased hostilities with the Systems Alliance. Individual pirate ships are unable to match warships in most cases; however, as the saying goes quantity has a quality all its own.

This has also increased the striking power of the pirates in the terminus, leading them be bolder in their attacks and attack more often. Something that has many Terminus powers worried and angry.

A minor but growing faction of Terminus powers has turned their wrath on the Systems Alliance, "Ten thousand citizens of Bivez died yesterday. Ten. Thousand. We were able to keep the pirate at bay before. But now their attacks are able to do significant damage. This is all the Systems Alliance's fault. Stay out of Terminus business humans, or we'll see about kicking you out!"

However, others disagree, "Speaker for Bivez has poor understanding," side the Speaker for Litinana, "Sometimes to cure one must sacrifice part of what is healthy. Pirates attack Systems Alliance. Systems Alliance destroys threat. Perfectly reasonable. If others are harmed then they clearly were not meant to be where they are." [Editorial note: Litiananian translations packages are fairly simple so they may be some errors]

Isolationists Rally
While many of their members come from the Terra Firma Party, members of the growing Isolationist Party come from every walk of life. Today's rally is an attempt to formalize the party's goals an stances on a verity of issues.

According to one member the rally was instigated in large part due to the Systems Alliance's increased activity in the Traverse and Terminus regions. "Getting involved there is really more trouble then its worth. Hell they don't want us there, we should stay out."

However, other people outside the Isolationist Party have observed that if thy didn't want us to get involved they should have said something sixteen years ago. "Bit too late now isn't it?"

Political Briefing 2173-Q3:
First off a quick briefing on two of the races mentioned in the news article you sent my way:

Bivez:
Technically the name of their planet, the race is actually called the Gento In simple terms they might be described visually as rat-people, which is probably offensive, but gets the point across. They have managed to maintain a stable government in the Terminus for about two hundred years. They have a fairly strong navy for a one world Terminus power, but it's mainly made up of escort frigates that serve to protect their trading ships from pirates.

The also are rather angry with the Systems Alliance for stirring up the pirates.

Litinana:
Both the name of the species and the planet the Litinana are humanoid and covered in fuzzy purplish red stuff that no ones know if it is clothing or fur (or something else). It's hard to say much else about their appearance as it seems to vary a great deal. Some have three fingers to a hand some five, height is all over the place, as are body ratios etc. That aside what the Litinana are good at is bioweapons. And by good at I mean able to make the Genophage look like the common cold. Pissing them off is a good way to die a horrible and painful death.

Thankfully the Litinana tend to stick to themselves, only speak up when they find something interesting or want to trade, and are extremely blunt. Pissing them off is pretty hard too. It's only happened three times, once when pirates landed on their world (which may have been their first space fairing contact), once when a pirate group attacked a Litinana ship, and once when someone tried to invade their planet. This resulted in the death of every pirate involved, an asteroid base filled with a mess of pus, and the complete extinction of the H'Jik race. Pirates wisely avoid them now and most other tip toe around them in fear of setting them off.

Citadel:
In territory closer to home some one has stirred up some anti-Human sentiment among other races. They've mostly been working the warlike and violent angle pointing out the Systems Alliance's activities in the Terminus and Traverse regions. Looking at the material there is a fair bit of spin being placed on everything.

We've gotten fingered a few times in the process. Mostly pointing to us as part of the human war machine or calling us merchants of death. Even Paragon Industries' more benign activities are either treated as cover ups for what we really want or treated as having a hidden agenda.

This stuff is minor now but as they say an ounce of prevention and all that.

On another front, what I'm sure is someone else is trying to discredit arc-reactor tech a bit. A small group of people are questioning the safety of "something that glows blue like that". Frankly that's all classic tinfoil hat stuff. There is also an article about a possible health hazard. Looking into it the original science is from a Hanar that observed that placing an arc-reactor in water would contaminate the water over time. Something we even include a warning about in the manual. Something to do with Palladium decay? The original science was part of an effort to figure out how to counter that so the Hanar could use arc-reactor technology more easily, but some sensationalist started running away with it.

The "Humans have Prothean tech they're not sharing" rumor has gain a little more traction as well.

Terminus:
Anti-human sentiment is growing here too. Not sure if purely "natural" or if someone is actively encouraging it. The afore mentioned News article hits most of the points here.

I'd recommend a brief ad campaign to counter the trend in Citadel space. Marketing says that flippant is the preferred flavor of the times.

Events for 2171-Q3:
Scientist Salarian
"So anything interesting in the mailbox today Cortana?" You ask.

"You have four hundred and twenty-one pieces of spam, ten internal memos, five death threats, sixty-two thank you messages, and one message from the University of Sur'Kesh." your ever helpful VI informs you.

"That last one sounds interesting bring it up!" You'll get to the boring stuff later.

Dr. Rebecca Shepard,
Have looked at recent advances in biotechnology made by Paragon Industries. Would like to discuss possibility of applying some technologies to other races; believe that there could be great potential benefits from working on such a project. Some notes and thoughts in attached file.

Dr. Mordin Solus
University of Sur'Kesh

Looking into Mordin Solus' background you quickly discover that he is a not only an expert in the field of genetics, but also quite competent in other fields. He also seems to like the arts particularly singing. Your investigators check him over and he is legitimate as far as they can tell. He's a Salarian professor and nothing more.

What will you do?
[ ] Invite him to Mindoir to talk
[ ] Politely refuse
[ ] Ignore the message

Fleet Upgrades
"You have an incoming call Doctor," you VI informs you.

"From?"

"Caller ID is Admiral Steven Hackett of the fifth fleet." Cortana informs you.

"Okay put him though, " you say.

"Hello, you are speaking with Doctor Rebecca Shepard of Paragon Industries how may I help you?" you greet cordially, the Alliance calling usually means more money and more money means more research!

"Admiral Hackett Alliance Fifth Fleet." he greats you "I've been ordered to draw up plans for some of the new block upgrades to our ships. Obviously several technologies Paragon Industries produces have potential in this field. I have a large discretionary budget for developing any upgrades so funding shouldn't be an issue."

"Well I guess it depends on how quick of an upgrade you want... Several of the technologies we offer are fairly simple to plug-in. The Fire Control and Point Defense VI based on the one the Tiger IFV use is extremely simple to install, I think we could easily offer a per ship license if you computers are setup the way I believe they are. Arc-reactors are also simple. Though you may need to upgrade the power-grid. Arc-reactors produce an incredible amount of power for their size you could power an entire dreadnaught off of a few industrial scale ones tossed in the back of the cargo hold. 160 Terrawatts of power is just over twenty-five cubic meters. Adding extra shield projectors should be easy enough from there."

You pause a moment to let that sink in enjoying his raised eyebrows, "We also have some new stealth anti-laser armor plate, better than Tungsten base, but inferior to carbon. Though at a much better price then carbon armor. A more significant upgrade would take time, mostly involving optimizing the power systems, upgrading GARDIAN lasers if need be, figuring what to do with the space the fusion reactor used to take up and replacing the engine housings and putting repulsors in.

"The quick stuff would be readily doable for any ship class. Main limit is production. At the moment though I think we're only able to develop a full upgrade to a frigate."

"All of those sound like things the Alliance would like. The VI upgrade and enough arc-reactors sets for our active dreadnaughts would be worth getting sooner rather than later. Shall we get down to the finer details?"

The Alliance would like: (May combine choices)
[ ] 647 Fire Control and Point Defense VIs 64.7 million credits now, 4 million credits service and care per quarter. Delivered this quarter.
[ ] Five sets of four 40TW arc-reactors and cabling. 2.5 billion profit per set, 10,000 production per set. Delivered the sooner the better, each set can be delivered individually (Earliest looks like 2174-Q1)
[ ] 2000 Units of Arcane Blur Plating. 750 million profit, 2000 production. Not as much of a rush.

In addition the the Systems Alliance will pay you to develop the following within the next two years (Research vote later!). In addition the SA will buy Block upgrade packages once they are developed.
Huai-Hai Class Frigate Block 6 Upgrade (50 RP):
The oldest and most numerous of the SA's ships. 200 million credits development money. (Requires Frigates)
Waterloo Class Frigate Block 3 Upgrade (50 RP): SA's newer frigate deployed 6 years after the first contract war. 150 million credits development money. (Requires Frigates)
Geneva Class Cruiser Block 4 Upgrade (100 RP): A lighter cruiser for Skirmishing. 250 million credits development money. (Requires Light Cruisers)
Tokyo Class Cruiser Block 3 Upgrade (100 RP): The main combatant of the SA's space forces. 350 million credits development money. (Requires Heavy Cruisers)
Everest Class Dreadnought Block 7 Upgrade (150 RP): The elder of the SA's two Dreadnaught designs. 500 million credits development money. (Requires Dreadnaughts)
Kilimanjaro Class Dreadnaught Block 2 Upgrade (150 RP): The SA's brand new warship design. Already out of date. 600 million credits development money. (Requires Dreadnaughts)

"Doctor, Security has detected anomalous activity in the research and security servers. They believe a hacker is trying to gain access, but the method they are using is to access the systems is unknown." Cortana informs you.

"And shutting down the servers might make a physical attack easier. So call that plan D." You say, "Odds the hacking is a prelude to a physical attack?"

"Probable, the targeting of the security server puts the odds well over 70%."

"Make sure everyone that needs to know, knows. I'm going to..."

Special Event Part 2 and Update I Forgot
Special Event Part 2 and Update I Forgot
2173-Q4

That Thing I Forgot:

[X] Start writing those papers on Liara's artifact and what you gleamed from it, empathizing the differences between its technology and yours. Embelish Liara's role - make it look as much as possible as her discovery with your minimum help; this way it would look less like you inventing evidence.

"It's amazing!" Liara exclaims to you, her exuberance overflowing. Her cheerfulness is infectious even over the comm.

"We fabricated a copy of the tool you developed and the device turned on immediately when we used it!" for a moment there is a minor dip in her mood, "most of what was there was corrupted. But! We got one file to work and... It was like a SimulStim, recording. A Prothean's memories recorded and stored for millenia! I'm not entirely sure how the device could even project the memories to me, SimulStim normally requires calibration even for an Asari. Its something to look into later...

"Anyway, I used a simstim rig to make a recording of the memories that could be shared. I'll send you the file! The actual memory is very interesting. Even if one only got the first few seconds it tells us so much! We get to see what an actual Prothean looks like. No one knew what a Prothean looked like before this, we even get to see some other races from that time!

"That's not the best part though! The memory is directions of some sort, sort of a chain of memories of places. I think you're meant to follow the places remembered, like a treasure map or something. The last memory shows a cave. And in that cave..." Liara pauses for dramatic effect, "Is a box!"

"A box?" you encourage her to continue.

"Yes a box!" she says with a smile, "From what little I can tell . It a very sturdy box meant to resist the passage of time. Sort of time capsule like. Whatever it is may still be there, intact."

"That could be interesting, any chance of actually finding it?"

"Well one of the memories shows the stars, and working from there I determined that the location wasn't on Altahe. But instead is on Intai'sei."

"Hmm... Intai'sei, hot, arid, human colonized near-garden world?" You ask looking up the planet.

"Yes that's the one. This dig should be concluded in about a month. I would love to go looking there next." Liara says longingly, "Who knows what could be there?"

"Something to think about in the future. More immediately is there anything else?"

"Well yes, I have written up a few papers using what we've found. I'd like you to look over what I have on the device and the tool you developed. I've also...," Liara looks actually unhappy for their first time during the call, "made a trimmed down version of the memory for the papers that makes it so that no one can find out about the box. A prize like that would be snapped up quickly. People will find out once the artifacts are studied more, but it'll delay any looters."

"Sensible if unfortunate." you say, "I'll get on that paper then."

Possible Company/Personal Action, Treasure Hunt on Intai'sei
Dig final results next quarter!

L-l-l-l-l-look at you, hacker!
[X] ...put my suit on then...
-[X] ...counter the hacker

[X] Bring PI security to full alert in all PI facilities. All power armor teams are to suit up. Defenses are to be warmed up. Non-combat personnel are to be evacuated to shelters immediately.

[X] Initiate full server isolation (as in no power, all connections are to be physically cut if need be, do not leave a single route of attack against the database) for research servers. Security is essential in keeping online, but no need to give potential attack route to PI research database. Send security teams to sweep the facility for potential infiltrators.
-[X] If power can't be cut for some of the servers for some reason (such as sensitive data only present in energy dependent memory, or long-term calculations in progress), at least cut connections.

[X] Alert Mindoir militia and System Alliance forces that a hacking attack is occurring against PI and that a physical attack is highly likely.

[X] Security teams are to move to critical locations. (Security sector, armories, research databases, etc)

[X] Researches who need to save all files before going to safety have dibs for the shield belts in laboratory storages. Gaver Dor is allowed to charge his guns.

With a thought you send a message to security, bringing them to full alert. Security sends out quite alarms and notifications across the Paragon Industries compound. A second message orders the shut down of the research server. Hopefully no important data is being manipulated.

Dumb luck roll: 1D100=>11 Nope nothing important.

That should keep things safe. A final command sends teams to check the data lines showing abnormal activity. You open a mental window to watch their progress.

Security should know what to do from there. Now it's time to pay attention to your own personal safety. You quickly move over to your personal version of the Legionary. The suit is well equipped with all the latest technology you've developed. Now if only it was quicker to get on. Eh... Mk II functionality.

Current Mounted Armament:
4x Hasta Autocannons on arm mounts
2x Pilum Mk II Missile Launchers w/ 3 rounds each on side shoulder mounts
2x SMG Turrets in AMS configuration on top shoulder mounts

Change? (Will take more time)
[ ] Yes
-[ ] With what? (8 Mounts two per arm two per shoulder, any PI gear)
[ ] You're good

That aside you begin trying to counter the hacker. As you begin running programs and sorting data from the servers you keep an eye on the security teams sent to investigate the data lines. Neither team has spotted anything yet, the corridors are free of signs of forced entry nor is there anyone who shouldn't be there present. From your AR window you also notice a distinct lack of anything amiss as the teams move though the corridors. The lack of anything is worrying.

However, you are quickly forced to refocus. Who ever this hacker (or hackers) is, they are apparently very skilled indeed. As unlikely as it seems they are operating a similar skill level as your own. As quickly as you begin to run a program, the hacker notices the change in the network and starts to counter with its own. Chances are if you hadn't stepped in the hacker would have had access right now.

18D6E5=>7|ones:3 Based on the hacker's current rate you've reinforced the security server's firewall enough to last long enough for you to do one other thing.

Do you...
[ ] ...terminate the data line. (lose the services of some of the security computers, hacker is no longer able to use that access point)
[ ] ...hack the attacker back. (May gain intel on hacker, success will delay hacking)

Event notes:
Security teams are concentrating at critical points, campus walls are less defended.
Drones are active and patrolling.
Turrets are online.
Non-combatants are being evacuated.
Investigating security teams have found nothing
Recon drones and sensors detect some activity elsewhere in the industrial district, no indications of hostility.
Research Server is offline.
Security Server is secure... for now.
Mindoir militia, police, and System Alliance forces have been notified, but they will not act unless hostilities or physical illegal actions occur.

-----
GM's Note: Well that took forever. I wanted this done nearly two weeks ago :(. Oh well it here now. All the usual. I'd like to in theory, depending on the rate of response resolve voting in a day or two. That way the stuff can get resolved in a timely manner. Assuming I update quickly...

Special Event Part 3
2173-Q4

[x] You're good

You've got enough firepower to cut though six tanks and several units of infantry. That should be enough.

[X] ...hack the attacker back. (May gain intel on hacker, success will delay hacking)

Base Roll: 18D6E5=>2|ones:3 + Edge Roll: 3D6M5=>2 + Exploded Dice: 1D6M5=>0 = 4 VS Unknown

As you attempt to hack the attacker back though their access point you are distracted for a moment wondering how the hell the access point they are using even works. As far as you can tell it not physically there at all and might be... moving? The investigating teams still haven found anything.

Curiosity seems to not have done the cat any favors this time. This distraction delays your response for only fractions of a second, but its enough. And you discover that you were wrong. This hacker isn't operating on your level at all, the access point they are using is just holding them back. Out matched and a little panicked, you're surprised when the attacker opens another connection and tricks your Neural Interface into running your VR program.

The virtual space loads quickly. The server for this space seems to use as little bandwidth as possible. You load into an open city with tall gray metal buildings. However the style doesn't match any that you know of the blue and green luminous highlights are not something you can recall from any race or location. The presence of small open decks on the side of some of the skyscrapers and other tall buildings stands out as well.

Sadly the low bandwidth means that you are missing most of the art assets. Many objects around you are represented by polygons covered in either red or black and white static . Which sadly ruins the beauty of the city. It probably looks quite nice when the art is available.

You try to calm yourself as you look around. In front of you is a sphere covered by red static. The sphere spins as you hear a voice, "Welcome Progresser child. Flawed as you are, you are interesting to us."

What do you do?
[ ] You put overrides into the Neural Interface for just this reason! Use them! Get out.
- [ ] And shut down the security server completely.
- [ ] And disable any known compromised part of the security server hope the rest is fine.
- [ ] Then go where or do what?
[ ] Who ever this is seems willing to talk so you'll try that.
- [ ] What will you say/ask? (Writing questions and stuff yeah?)
[ ] Explore the virtual space some, maybe you'll find some clues?
[ ] Something Else?

Event notes:
Non-combatants have been evacuated.
Research Server is offline.
Security Server is probably compromised.
Investigating security teams have found nothing.
You have no other information on what is going on.

----
GM's Note: Well that went poorly for you. On the upside... well we'll see how this goes. Anyway all the usual. Oh also you can use the overrides to pop out of the VR whenever you want. A shot and quick update just as I wanted! Yay! Some part of me wishes it was longer, but I felt a vote was definitely needed here.

[X] You put overrides into the Neural Interface for just this reason! Use them! Get out.
-[X] And shut down the security server completely.

The overrides do their job well. You experience a moment of disorientation as the VR space replaces reality. A quick check shows that the OS and firmware layers of your implant are fine. The hacker only effected the application layer as far as you can tell. Even then the actual weak point may have come from the VR program itself. The program does conform to modern VR standards and there may be an exploit there. Something to check later.

For now the security server is the real risk. A quick check of your data feeds catches you up on what you missed. The hacker has crashed the communications network and the E-war systems... and that's it so far as you can tell. Based on how effective the hacker was against you would have expected far more. Looking at the data, you'd almost say they weren't trying as hard for some reason. Or it could be something else.

Thanks to your own ability and the improvements to neural interface technology your analysis takes only a few moments. With the comm net down you'll be forced outside to call security. You open your lab's door and leave the lab opening a comm channel to security as you do, "Security Server is compromised, shut it down."

"Figured as much, I was considering shutting it down anyway." the head of security replies, "I'll start the shut down now. I've also sent a runner to get past the jamming, they should be able to contact the alliance and local forces. Don't know if you missed it but just after the comms cut out a bunch of construction robot attacked the west wall. Turns out industrial fabricators and lasers make halfway okay weapons Odd part is that some of them a projecting large shield bubbles. We have a large advantage as far as I can tell, but I'd bet good money on it being a distraction. For what's the question."

As the head of security updates you, you walk out a little more and get a better view of the west wall. Splattered burning "plasma" jelly clearly marks the attack's location. Your security forces are keeping down and behind cover for the most part. Occasionally an explosive detonates and you can see your drone zipping around. The attackers keep your forces busy but achieve little more. Though the wall will need repairing later.

You could help out at the wall, but the attack seems well in hand. Finding out what the distraction was for seems more important. And you've notice a small problem. The Legionary is heavy armor and the extra mass makes your biotics slightly less effective then you'd expect. Which explains why most biotics avoid heavy armor. Though you can probably fix that issue the MK II. Oh well not like you need biotics to kick ass.

Murphy, however, is not done with you yet today. As you consider your course of action a biotic blue detonation occurs in the middle of the defending line. The explosion tosses Legionary armored troops around and the wall receives even more structural damage.

Thanks to the advanced sensors of the Legionary and your neural interface that you get a clear view. You see a humanoid shape standing in the middle of the detonation. A massive aura of dark energy surrounds the figure. Though whether they are human, Asari or Batarian you cannot tell; between their grey-black armor and the aura of dark energy it's hard to see much. A far more immediate issue is the fact that the biotic super soldiers attention is directed towards where the local research server is. Great.

Well what now? (If you're getting into a fight feel free to add in some tactics notes)
[ ]You're in a perfect position to intercept the biotic super soldier. You stand the best chance against him with you upgraded Legionary. Though your combat skills themselves aren't the best.
[ ] It'd would be better to fight with support, engage alongside the security team guarding the research server; even if it risks the server and labs.
[ ] The security team at the server can handle it. With the additional damage the west wall may be at risk, help out there.
[ ]Something else?

Event notes:
Non-combatants have been evacuated.
Research Server is offline.
Security Server is offline.
Investigating security teams have found nothing, they have been re-tasked to guard the servers.
Construction robots are attacking the west wall, security is winning.
Security teams are concentrating at critical points, campus walls are less defended.
Drones are engaged in fighting.
Turrets are in autonomous mode and have reduced effectiveness.
You are being jammed, long-range communications ineffective.
A runner has been sent to escape jamming.
A biotic super soldier has attacked the west wall.

-----
GM's note: Yay more updates. Not much to say here sort of a bridge piece between the hacking and the outside combat. The biotics and heavy armor not getting along thing is from the observation that dark energy effect is dependent on the mass of the target, and combining that with the no heavy armor for casters thing that bioware did. It effects buffs and debuffs more then attacks though. "Plasma" Jelly is basically the unholy love child of napalm and thermite, in other words super hot burning goo. No actual plasma involved unless its a super hot verity and creates plasma as it burns.

[X] You're in a perfect position to intercept the biotic super soldier. You stand the best chance against him with you upgraded Legionary. Though your combat skills themselves aren't the best. We've managed to beat a squad of Legionaries practically by ourselves before; one guy shouldn't be that much of a problem, but best to be cautious anyway.
-[X] Get high, and get far; you're fighting a biotic, and biotics don't tend to go for range boosts. Fire 4x Piliums as an alpha strike, and go 3D by using your Repulsor jetpack to get on the roof of one of your multi-story buildings (using the building itself to cover your movement), where you have the high ground, cover, and enough distance that your weapons can hit, but the enemy's biotics won't be able to reach you, or even see you.
--[X] From there, massed autocannon-fire should do the job; duck behind cover to dodge biotic abilities. Bring up your Barrier ability if it does not interfere with your shields.
[X] Have Security send a runner to activate any idle Tigers in our factory, waiting for shipment. Call it a secondary Quality Control test.

Initiative: 12D6E5=>3|ones:3 + 12 = 15

A biotic super soldier headed right for your labs and research server can't be a good thing. Interception sounds like the best plan. An opening salvo of Pilums may finish this fight before it even gets started. As you take aim you are able to take a closer look at the attacker (10D6E5=>1|ones:2), but you can see little more than you noticed the first time.

Your enemy acts quicker than you do; in a burst of biotic energy the biotic super soldier teleports 60 meters. The infamous biotic charge, one of the top reasons biotics are terrifying weapons. Elite Vanguards are known to hit 40 meters reliably. Regardless one more of those and the attacker will be next to the labs. Two more and they'll be in range of the research server.

Your shoulder mounts spit out two pairs of Pilum (Mk II) missiles in rapid succession. And all of them miss (repeat 4 7D6E5=> 1|ones:2; 2|ones:2; 1|ones:1; 1|ones:3). The timing of the biotic charge must have been just perfect. Today is not your day: there is a higher power, and whatever it is just does not like you. At least the missiles will come back around.

Your missiles have drawn the biotic super soldier's attention. Another charge propels the attacker sixty meters in your direction. A second charge that fast is very impressive, though you can see the consequences of it -- occasional bolts of miniature lightning jump from the soldier. As an added bonus, the attacker has chosen to end the biotic charge by ramming into one of the labs, damaging a wall. Damn it, those cost money!

You're not sure how effective getting onto a roof will be, but going up will put distance between you and the attacker, possibly saving you from a charge. Raising your arm, you hope for better luck with your Hasta than you had with the missiles. Your first burst is a hit (9D6E5=>4|ones:1) and strips away some of the biotics' defensive maelström. Your second burst hits as well (8D6E5=>2|ones:4) and strips a second layer of defense. Sadly you also managed to shoot up the wall the biotic slammed into. Oops!

The missiles loop around again for a second pass (repeat 4 7D6E5=> 5|ones:1; 2|ones:1; 2|ones:2; 2|ones:3). The first strikes true, but the biotic storm protecting the attacker is far more than a light show. The warping effect of the barrier rips the missile apart before it can deliver its warhead. The next missile misses, but the last two missiles hit. Maybe it's luck, or maybe the missile's simple VIs leaned something from the first's demise, but regardless as the missiles' defensive barriers fail, they detonate inside the swirling volume of the biotic's raging shield.

The twin detonations knock the attacker flying, slamming them into another wall. Damn it, lab walls aren't meant to be abused like that! Thankfully the once raging maelström around the attacker is no more than a few wisps of biotic energy. Good! Getting hit by everything you shot that bastard with should have done something!

However, even lying there the attacker's biotic aura flares again. A third biotic charge puts the biotic super soldier a mere meter away from you, lightning jumping off his/her form. Oh and the maelström of biotic energy is back. Because biotic charge does that. Refreshes barriers. You hate everything. All of it. The only silver lining to this black cloud is that the charge wasn't strong enough to toss you around. Yay.

Initiative: 12D6E5=>2|ones:1 + 12 = 14

If that wasn't enough the super soldier quickly pulls out a grenade like object and tosses it near you. In an amazing bit of irony the object bounces back at the attacker into his barrier... and explodes. The storm of biotic energy is massively lessened by the blast and the attacker gets to go flying a bit again. In an extra bit of irony, the blast barely effect you, as the attackers barrier absorbed most of the effects. Of course, you're not allowed to have nice things, so another of you lab buildings is damaged. You did not sign off on a sunroof being installed!

In accordance with your general hated of everything and this asshole in particular you decide that some more missiles are in order along with a large helping of autocannon fire. The missiles of course miss (7D6E5=>0|ones:3, 7D6E5=>2) That's why they're called MISSiles, right? In other news the autocannon bursts actually hit something (5D6E5=>4, 5D6E5=>2) and they effectively shreds the remaining barrier. You last wandering missile from the first barrage comes back around and in an impressive display of competence detonates on impact with the now un-shielded biotic (7D6E5=>3|ones:2).

Good the fucker is dead, terminated, gone, mostly vaporized and other wise not longer a problem. Those were some of the most frustrating seconds of your life. And of course there's a bit more damage to another building.Your opponent neutralized, you loudly vocalize your feelings of anger.

"Well, looks like you don't need my help. I'm going to go shoot some robots. You should join me; you sound like you could use the stress relief." Gaver Dor says, lowering a large PI micro missile cannon.

His suggestion sounds good. You work out your stress by abusing construction bots. By the time the Tigers join in and support comes from other sources they're pretty much dealt with.

Aftermath:
Minor injuries to Security teams.
Significant damage to the west wall, damage to the labs. (Repair cost 20 million)
Security server reset and cleared, no clues.
Research server cleared, no clues.
Investigation roll:
1D100=>10.

"So what do we have?" You ask the team assembled to discuss the aftermath of the attack.

"Our investigation into the hacking... has turned up nothing." the head of network security says annoyed, "And I mean nothing. No physical signs, no clues in the data. The best we've got is a new security program that will watch for similar intrusions and lock them out. I'd say we're as secure against this sort of hacking as we are any other now."

"On the subject of the construction bots," the commander of the security teams says, "It looks like the bots were stolen from other construction sites in the industrial district. On the night of the attack the just up and walked away from their job sites. Companies are looking to increase security in response. Lawmakers are also talking about making higher security required for construction bots.

"The interesting part is these", he says bringing up a hologram. "This device is an extremely high powered bubble-type shield generator. It's this that made the construction bots from target practice into a credible annoyance. Of course even then that shouldn't have been enough. But these," he says switching the image to a few gasps of surprise, "were."

"Arc-reactors?"

"Yes, four of them in total. Based on the palladium degradation they were sold recently. Between that and some wireless power transfer... well. Sadly from what we can tell the serials were scrubbed. I don't think trying to figure out who bought them would achieve much anyway even if we did have the serials."

"So, not much we can do here either." you say, "Sure there's some sales opportunities and political stuff, but investigation wise this is a dead-end. Great"

"Anything on the super solder?" You ask. You're pretty sure you know the answer.

"Well," one of the scientists begins, "we did get a sample of the armor material. Yes, its a big fat unknown, some fancy carbon nanotube alloy. On the other had if were ever see it again, we'll have an ID. I'm pretty sure that the material is beyond the ability of any current manufacturing. So we're looking at, what did you call it that one time? Prothean lostech? Or some other precursor tech. Maybe some one invented something new, but I'd doubt it."

Another scientist chimes in, "We did an analysis of the battle footage, its hard to see much what with the speed of the fight and the biotic aura the guy has, but we picked out a few things. The Body armor looks fairly... organic, though the helmet looks more like a Citadel hardsuit helmet. The lightning grounding off the guy also shows that he was putting a massive amount of power through his biotics. A normal sentient of any race would be dead. In addition, when the Pilum vaporized they guy there is an... interesting visual effect. We're not 100% sure but we think that the effect might be caused by an arc-rector detonation. Now maybe that's from the Pilum's repulsor, but the effect is too large. I'd argue that it the effect was due to an arc-reactor detonating. Thankfully the safeties worked."

"It would explain why the guy was so well vaporized. Other than armor fragments we have nothing left. I can tell you that the guy was probably carbon based, but so is pretty much every race so that's a dead-end."

"Guy was definitely overcharged. Arc-reactor would provide more than enough power to do what he did," Gaver Dor adds in, "Thought you could only do that to Krogan. He also showed off some impressive biotics techniques. That maelström barrier is new. It's actually similar to one of the research proposals I tossed your way. Warp Barriers. Looks pretty effective based on the way it tore up some the walls the guy smashed into. Doesn't really give any clues though,"

"Right so that's it then?" you ask frustrated. You get several affirmative replies. It just hasn't been your week.

The meeting breaks up and you take a moment to relax in you chair, glaring at the ceiling.

"You look like you need to break more stuff." your Krogan employee says.

"Yeah that might help a bit, doesn't change how frustrating this all is."

"You cost who ever it as an elite agent. Those aren't cheap and they can have many."

"They better not!"

"You have to remember this was a win." he says, assuming a tone as sagely as a Krogan can produce, "Even if were don't know who the attacker was you know what kind of forces to expect. And the attack was negated for very little. You know how much damage those bombs the guy was carrying could have done. I'd bet good money that one of those was block leveler, it looked like a custom modified version of a type you can get in the terminus. That, BOOM! Lab complex broken. The enemy failed their objective. It cost you little. That's victory by most definitions. You just haven't won the war."

"Yeah thanks."

"Besides you don't have to worry to much about a group who's elite agent basically blew himself up."

Errr... Anything?

GM's Note: So yeah that was an embarrassing end for that NPC. I though he/she/it might live! Yes that NPC was built to be a massive pain in the ass. Do recall though that there were sent right into your base they kinda had to be built to be OP. All though I forgot the bit about charge rechaging barriers until I went to double check the range of a charge. Charge is OP esp when you can use it over and over again. Please nerf.

Also those dice! Major LOL moments there with some of those rolls. I may have been a bit nicer to you that I should have been a couple of times and forgot a penalty or two. But with some of those rolls! The best part was the roll for the bomb. The throw was 0 success on 6 dice. Then the scatter direction was right back to the thrower... and it flew three meters back. Oops! And to top it all off it detonated in the barrier.

On the investigation some of the poor showing was due to bad rolls also just they way things fell out in the fight. If Gaver Dor was able to engage for a bit he would have had some insights. Also the kill being via Pilum to unshielded face... Feel free to ask for details from the investigation that I left out. Though chances are the answer will be some variation on "you don't know".

Anyway we should be back to our regular quarterly fun next time. And I need to update the tech tree as well as think bit on biotics techniques!

Edit: Thanks to @Kaizuki for some grammar correction particularly punctuation.

It's been a while since your last date with Brian. (He's doing well by the way, having passed basic training and is working on advanced combat training. His skills have even landed him a training squad leadership position.) Discounting time spent with your employees you really haven't spent all that much time being social. Maybe you should hang out with people. Maybe even try dating?

Your mom has also pointed out that you could use, "someone to look after you". What ever that means.

Rahna, your biotics teacher, suggests you acquire a more talented biotic teacher. Her ability to teach is limited and she isn't a combat biotic and considering your position that maybe what you need. Turian Cabals train some of the best combat biotics, a Salarian biotic may have a better understanding of augmented biotics, of course the Asari have some of the best biotics and biotic trainers. There are other options as well. That said Rahna can still teach you a few things about control and a few techniques.

System Notes: Training hasn't been very clear in the past, so some basic rules. A training action gives +1 to a stat, unless it maxing a stat or training to super human levels (those take two training actions). Having a teacher allows a second +1 to a stat. Usually not the same stat though. (Often a related skill/attribute combo.) Teachers of course can't train you beyond their own ability/knowledge.

While you can train as a sort of social action, the effects will very depending on which is the primary goal is and the people involved.

Sustained Barrier: Used by some biotics instead of shields. A biotic trained in this technique can continually project a barrier that's strength depend on their power. In addition the technique requires almost no concentration. The continuous nature of this barrier makes it an excellent anti-assassination tool.

Throw: Known by several names this technique allows the user to strike targets with blasts of telekinetic force. Most combat level biotics can send their targets flying giving this technique its name.

Lift: A useful technique that can be used to levitate targets. Well know or it combat use where the biotic leaves the target hanging "helplessly" in the air.

Yank: Often described as the opposite of throw this technique violently pulls a target to the user.

Construct: A technique for producing simple objects out of biotic force fields. This level only produces weak objects of extremely simple geometries. (Cubes, Pyramids, Spheres) Many biotics develop their own personal advanced constructs or controllable ones based off of this technique. For example Gaver Dor's Biotic Hand technique.

Develop Biotic Technique: Invent your own technique or try to learn a technique you don't have a teacher for. Success depends on you mastery of biotics and the difficulty of the technique. [Hard, counts as two choices].

Pooled: 200 Research Points

[ ] Flawless black boxing/FRM [368/3200]: By riddling your technology with superfluous wiring and casing, adding minute self-destructive devises, and shielding it all from all known forms of non-intrusive tomography, you have been able to keep your rivals (and most governments) guessing as to how it is your devices work. Now, you start getting serious about secrecy. (Makes reverse engineering your technology practically impossible to any of the Citadel species.)

[ ] Plug and Play Skills [800]: Want to learn Kung Fu? Here's a chip to slot into your brain. So long as the chip is installed you know what the chip knows once you get used to the new skills. It can also function as a teacher. Only challenge can be finding some one to record the skills from.

[ ] Advanced Prostetics [800]: Once you've got wires in your brain giving you robo limbs is easy!

May have strange side effects that look kind of like super powers depending on the programming.

Now available
[ ] 500m MAC [800]: Stepping up to the next size of mass accelerator cannon will require solving many of the same problems all over again. However the end result will be a weapon that delivers terajoules of kinetic hurt.

[ ] Swarm Networking [800]: Distributed proccessing isn't anything new. The real challenge here is threefold. One must allow elements to dynamically enter and exist the computing system without compromising algorithm execution, secure the network from noise and hostile action and prevent AI formation. That Geth thing didn't end well for the Quarians.

Gaver Dor's Projects:
Warp Barriers [400]: It's not uncommon to here members of a race offer the wisdom that the best defense is a good offense. Now most of them are offering the philosophical observation that if you've destroyed your enemy you don't need defenses. It's far more fun to take them literally. Reactive armor and point defense weapon all show this is literally true as well. So let's take one of the nastiest offensive dark energy effects and make it a defense. By oscillating the strength of a shield's projectors we can create a warp effect in the shield. Sure we'll need to calibrate things so that the shield doesn't start producing biotic detonations (Hmm... new idea...), and we'll need sensors and stuff, but that's achievable. End result should be a barrier that can rip apart incoming projectiles, which should be murder on missiles or anything that gets too close. Do it right and it'll still work fine against normal projectiles too.

Stasis Plate [1600]: Stasis makes the effected object almost invulnerable if mostly immobile. So apply it to armor plating and bam! Awesome armor that's good against anything, including lasers. Down side is the effected plate can't move fast due to the speed of light so no FTL or, hell, probably no cruising either, and shields of any sort can't be used while its on, barrier interference principle and all that. It'll also burn power like nobodies business, which is why no one ever considered trying this before. Small price to pay for an incredible defense. Oh and not actual invulnerability, just really hard to hurt.

Starship Block Upgrades:
[ ] Huai-Hai Class Frigate Block 6 Upgrade (50 RP): The oldest and most numerous of the SA's ships. 200 million credits development money. (Requires Frigates)

[ ] Waterloo Class Frigate Block 3 Upgrade (50 RP): SA's newer frigate deployed 6 years after the first contract war. 150 million credits development money. (Requires Frigates)

[ ] Geneva Class Cruiser Block 4 Upgrade (100 RP): A lighter cruiser for Skirmishing. 250 million credits development money. (Requires Light Cruisers)

[ ] Tokyo Class Cruiser Block 3 Upgrade (100 RP): The main combatant of the SA's space forces. 350 million credits development money. (Requires Heavy Cruisers)

[ ] Everest Class Dreadnought Block 7 Upgrade (150 RP): The elder of the SA's two Dreadnaught designs. 500 million credits development money. (Requires Dreadnaughts)

[ ] Kilimanjaro Class Dreadnaught Block 2 Upgrade (150 RP): The SA's brand new warship design. Already out of date. 600 million credits development money. (Requires Dreadnaughts)

GM's Note: Mostly just a bunch of votes and some fluff. I'd advise checking the previous two main updates for a refresher. Tech Tree should be updated. Also new techs!. Also should I split TIR Systems into TIR Shielding and TIR Stealth? As for the last update. Well, there were some comments tossed around (an like one vote) so, I figure that you'd cooperate with the authorities and keep records of the attack which I planned you'd do anyway.

[X] You'll pay, it's tax-deductible and thus the government is paying anyway.
Dear Doctor Rebecca Shepard,

I cannot convey to you how difficult and painful the effects of my L2 implant were. Nor can I truly convey my gratitude. I'm not poetic or good with words, so I'll say it simply: Thank You. It is good to see that there are good people in the galaxy trying to fix its wrongs. I and many other L2 biotics were beginning to lose hope.

With Gratitude,
Stephan Burton

[X] Offer them 50x 150GW Arc Reactors in 2174-Q1 and 1x 150GW Arc Reactor per quarter afterwards for as long as they are interested, with 1 quarter's notice before cancellation, at 3,750,000.
EAE's response can be summed up as "Shut up and take my money". They are more than happy to pay. In the months that follow EAE can been seen adjusting their corporation away from the helium market and switching toward the raw materials for high-tech goods, including palladium, platinum and superconducting materials.

Yep, you totally built the house at the farm. While we're on the subject of little details, what are PI's colors?

[X] Develop Arc Reactor that glow all colors of the rainbow (simply have an adjustable filter of or a weak ME field to adjust the color of the glow) - depending on what color the user prefers. Do it in a way that makes it obvious you are making mockery of ominous blue glow thing.

[X] Release a series of sarcastic mockumenteries, titled Please Do Not Lick the Arc Reactor, targeting all the silly rumors about Arc Reactor dangers, and let them go viral.

A woman in a lab coat begins speaking, backdropped by a high-tech office. She is wearing an arc-reactor strapped to her head "Recently PI complaints and feedback department has not gotten certain pieces of feedback, and have only heard about them via second-hand sources. We believe this is because they have been misaddressed to the galactic media, not the PI complains and feedback department."

"However, we can totally understand how this happened. The addresses are nothing alike, so of course the feedback will go to the galactic media. It's not like some one would be trying a public misinformation campaign." She pauses confused, "Or maybe it's because they can't find the contact address conveniently provided in the 'Contact Us' section of our extranet site. Just in case, a handy link is presented below."

"So because we do not have any addresses to send our responses to, we figured that releasing an informative series of videos would have to do."

"As you can see," the woman points to a torus of kinetic barriers filled with fusion plasma, "Thanks to the fusion torus being made only out of dark energy barriers, fusion reactors also glow. Unlike arc-reactors, they do not glow a pleasing blue color."

The woman receives a note from a man in a lab coat which she quickly reads. "Ah, marketing has discovered that not everyone likes the color blue for some reason." She looks confused, "Well to correct that, PI has created multicolored arc-reactors! Now available at the PI store."

"Now we will drop the fusion reactor into the water, just like the manual tells us not to do and see what happens."

The fusion reactor upon submersion shorts out and releases a cloud of bubbles filling the air with steam.

"And next, we'll test an arc-reactor!"

The arc-reactor is placed in another tank of water. It sits there and glows blue as the woman waits impatiently for a few seconds.

"Well, looks like nothing is going to happen. Clearly, arc-reactors are far more water safe then a fusion reactor, even without a water safety case. Of course, the PI manual for arc-reactors says that submersion may cause minor amounts of Palladium toxicity, but that's only if you have it sit there for a few weeks. Amazing! The manuals were right. Who knew?"

"As you can clearly see, firing a high-powered laser into a fusion reactor is about as dumb as doing the same to an arc-reactor. Amazing, destroying high energy equipment when it's on isn't safe. Learn something new every day."

"And that's why licking the power leads of an arc-reactor is dumb."

Your other less silly videos are far less popular, but you feel they've helped make the galactic public less inclined towards... well... stupid.

[X] Prepare for an interview charm offensive, now that you have your CASIE and know how to use it:
-[X] In the Spotlight with Tim Vargan
-[X] Galactic Luminaries (after you've had a bit more practice)
-[X] Look for more interview opportunities.

The CASIE, you discover, works far better with someone to analyze. Yes it helps with the interviewers, but it would work far better if you could also get a good view of the audience. Unfortunately atemporal telesight is beyond you. That doesn't mean it doesn't help.
...

You sit at a round table across from Tim Vargan. A light illuminates the two of you making you the focus of the scene.

"A great deal has been made of your philanthropic efforts." Tim Vargan says, "Working with Sirta PI has made genetic medicine more available than ever and you've paid for the upgrade of any L2 biotic to your new Magi architecture. At the same time your efforts focus seem to be on PI derived tech rather than more general charity work. What's the thought process here?"

"Well I can't deny the tax benefits," you reply with a smile, "but a large part of the idea is that PI is changing things and to some degree what were trying to do in make sure those change happen in a way that helps a many as possible and harms as few. It's never going to perfect, but a purely reactionary method of dealing with these changes may lead to unpleasant results."

"So you'd say its largely fueled by a sense or responsibility?"

"In part, I can see an issue coming and I can do something about it so I do. But also it comes down to the fact that I made something to help people so, I'm going to make darn sure it's going to help as many people as is reasonably possible."
...

Matriarch Havana is definitely a master of debate and discussion. She's also quite likable and you can appreciate her drive to understand a being's reasoning and the principles of said being's reasoning. You'd say that you've learned a few things about your own self as a result of Havana's dissection of your positions.

"Some analysts believe that Paragon Industries' technological improvements are going to precipitate a war between the Systems Alliance and the Batarian Hegemony or possibly some other Terminus power, do you think this is true?"

"Well, new military technology is going to effect any situation that involves the military. Obviously." you begin, "However, I think that people thinking of it that way are probably missing some information. Mindoir, a Systems Alliance planet colonized before first contact was invaded by forces including a cruiser, a design developed by the Batarian Hegemony and until recently used by their military. There have been several other attacks on human worlds. If that kind of stuff is happening to you, you are at war. The SA was specifically founded to deal with this kind of issue, to defend its members from attackers. So, no, PI's actions can't start a war, we're in one. I'm helping my side win.

"In addition is the question of how this conflict plays out. Over the last thousand years the Batarian Hegemony, pirate and slaver forces have caused the death or loss of over 20 billion sentient beings from the Citadel races alone, plus unknown numbers from the Terminus. Not to mention the enslavement of well over 10 billion beings based on conservative estimates. The issues we have with them are not going to be fixed anytime soon and the current method of dealing with them is resulting in a slow bleeding. As much as war sucks, everything I know tells me that for this case a war is the cheapest way to resolve this.

"That said, if the Batarian Hegemony is willing to stay out of it and doesn't engage in any acts of war, I'd be satisfied with getting rid of the pirates and slavers."

"An understandable perspective. Do you think the Batarian Hegemony will stay out of it?" Havana asks.
...

You think maybe that's helped? Galactic opinion of humanity is shifting. Humanity's militarism is being blamed more and more on an unfortunate history of being attacked. Sort of like a metaphorical sleeping dragon that's been poked way to much.

The Spy Who Loved Me
[X] Invite him to Mindoir to talk
-[X] Make sure that he and Gaver Dor don't come to blows.

"I pretty much give zero fucks about the Salarians," Gaver Dor informs you bluntly, "As long as he's not an asshole, I don't care. Hell he could be one of the ones that invented the genophage and you know what I'd say? I'd say, 'Thanks for not wiping out my entire species, because I like existing'.

"If he's an ass though I'd rather not have to put up with him. Asshole plus guy with permanent murder rage is a bad combination. Anyway, I've got better things to do then go over that tired old Krogan-Salarian-Citadel-Genophage thing. I'm 40, the event was centuries ago, moving on. Waste of time. It happened and it's not going to be undone barring the end of the galaxy as we know it."

Huh... well that's interesting. There may be a story there, but Gaver Dor is far more interested in playing with mass effect fields. Or maybe there isn't.

Regardless about a week later you meet with Mordin Solus. He's a middle-aged Salarian, which is an odd thing to say about someone only in their twenties. He has this interesting habit of trimming words from his speech, possibly a side effect of the rapid fire Salarian thought process.

"Greetings, Dr. Shepard. Looking forward to speaking with you. Many possibly benefits from cooperative work. Hopefully will make galaxy better place."

You discuss the possibilities and challenges of developing biotechnology meant for several races and he offer several insights.

Mordin Solus is clever, insightful and probably a polymath. It's an interesting experience talking to some one at least close to your intellectual weight class, and one that knows more than you about the field in question. He's friendly, likable and has character.

However, regardless of any advice he may offer or your opinion of him the real question is will you work with him and how?

"Simplest option: Hiring me. Allows PI tech to remain in-house. Blackboxing tech shows desire for corporate secrecy, why? Don't know. Could be many reasons. Alternative: Cooperative work with Sur'Kesh University. University has many contacts that would be helpful. Also would not have to pay me."

The Mordin Solus plan:
[ ] Hire him
[ ] Work with the University of Sur'Kesh
[ ] Turn him down

-[X] Look into other aliens with specialties in biology - Mordin raised a good point; your advancements would really benefit other races too, if they could be spread to them (and bring you quite a lot of profit). Getting help from specialists of the races you might be developing medicines for would go a long way. Ask your staff to try and locate volus, vorcha, hanar specialists. Those are the more alien of races, after all. Those Litinana guys might be interested too.
Mordin was rather helpful in pointing you in the direction of several institutions and individuals that could help. You could probably put together a multi-racial team.

The oddest response comes from the Litinana, biotech advancements don't really interest them. You'd guess that they think they have a handle on that sort of thing. On the other hand they would be willing to offer their biotech expertise in exchange for VI technology. Any of the VIs made with the Improved Intelligence Algorithms technology would be useful or the technology itself.

Of course it also depends on what you want.

Litinana deal: (Because negotiations are complicated fell free to discuss things with the GM)

Kahlee Sanders is one of our best scientists and should be able to keep up with your developments and explain them so that the less technically inclined members of the Navy Command can understand."

He pauses, " I also have been asked to pass along a request. Paragon Industries has this interesting habit of upsetting the current order of things and it's hard to plan an ORBAT when thing keep changing. The Fleet Admirals would like it if you gave them a heads up on anything big coming up. You can have Kahlee pass anything you wish to share along."

Your factories spit out extra gear for your companies' use.

Human Resources:
[X] Hire 8x Research teams for the new labs - 3.2m
[X] Standardize security personnel pay at 350,000cr per team. - 45k
[X] Hire 10 additional security teams for Mindoir HQ - 3.5m
[X] Hire 3 additional security team for Dardania Factories - 1.05m
[X] Hire 3 additional security team for Macedonia Factories - 1.05m
[X] Hire 3 additional security team for Darcia Factories - 1.05m
[X] Hire 5 additional security teams for Elysium HQ 1.75m
[X] Hire 25 military teams for ParSec at 3.75m per team - 93.75m
[X] Search for skilled and experienced commanders interested in managing ParSec
[X] Search for skilled and experienced commanders interested in commanding Company(5 teams) sized units for ParSec

HR finds research, security and military teams quickly. However they fail to find anyone exceptional or accetible to command ParSec. However, they do manage to find a talented company commander.

Jelica Eveliina is a talented company commander with a impressive resume. Good with both biotic units and highly maneuverable commands, she should be able to use the Legionary to incredible effect. There's one small thing that maybe a problem. She's an Asari, an ex-commando, to be precise. She is married to a human though, and has a home on Mindoir. It's not like the Legionary armor won't fit her and PI has started employing aliens.

PI's investigators can't find any issues. She has several positive loyalty indicators (married to a human, lives in SA, good character history) and only one negative, her previous service in a foreign military.

Jelica Eveliina: Company/+4, Biotic Specialist (+1 to Biotic units), Mobility Master (+2 to highly mobile units)
[ ] Hire her
[ ] She may make a good commander for all of ParSec with some training...
[ ] No thanks

Should we start employing aliens on a more general level?
[ ] Yes.
[ ] No.

Purchases:
[X] Purchase a comprehensive security penetration test – 50m

The security test discovers no holes or issues. They do offer some procedural tips. In addition, one of the testers points out that some of your problem is that some of the threats you need to handle are less, "security" and more "armed conflict".

[X] Purchase Kasa Guardian Angel shielding for all our Legionaries – 220m

And now your suits will be even more ridiculously hard to damage, but hey, it's only cheating if the other guy does it.

Investigations:
[X] Investigate the state of Biotic Training (Civilian and Military) in the Systems Alliance.
-[X] Look into what would need to be done to set up a Biotic Boarding School and whether it's practical to set one up at Mindoir or if it would have to be done at Elysium or even Earth.

Biotic Training is mostly being handled on the level of SA member states. The SA's current policy seems to be: 'we fucked up, lets stay out of it for now'. There is still a lot of drawing on outside expertise and humanity hasn't really developed a good core of trained biotics or a lot of data on the subject. Most human biotics aren't much older than you!

As for setting up a Biotic Training Facility of any type? You need students, of course, and teachers. Other than that, a decent level of public openness about policies and training would help. One issue with BAaT was a lack of oversight. PI being a corporation might have been an issue, but the reputation gained from dealing with the L2 problem has the public viewing PI as cleaning up the messes of Conatix.

As for the location... a site in a relay system would be better, but Mindoir would work. Hell Mindoir has a small Biotic population. Though the majority have very minor abilities.

[X] Investigate what would needed to be done for Paragon Industries to get an AI Research License

The paper work is the least of the difficulties. Assuming you fill out all the forms correctly the Citadel Council will have to vote to allow you a license. It takes a fair bit of digging, but eventually a source in the Turian Hierarchy gives you a brief explanation of the general dispositions of the Council members.

The Turian Councilor tends to look at the quality of the leadership of a company. Rebecca Shepard is a brilliant scientist of good character and she holds basically absolute control over the company. The Turian vote is probably a yes.

The Asari vote is usually more concerned with the stability of the company. PI really doesn't have any stabilizing factors and reports to no one save Rebecca Shepard. Barring time or politics. this vote is a no.

The Salarian representative is the quiet one and tends to be the swing vote in divided issues. Despite the Salarian tendency toward... dangerous science at times, they don't encourage others to research dangerous things. They are going to need a better understanding of the company and its goals, particularly its goals for AI research, before they'll say yes. Right now PI looks like a magic box that pops out new stuff, some of which could become very dangerous.

[X] Investigate existing construction companies with an eye to purchase one.
-[X] Make special note of General Williams' company.

There are a few companies that do large-scale construction in the colonies. EAE is far out of our price range. Colonial Construction Inc. is one of the larger ones both doing initial prefab work as well as second and third wave industrial construction (CCI also employs General Williams). Alternatively Deep-Space Building builds a lot of space stations; they are the ones building your stations.

Buying control of CCI would take at least 500 million credits. Total ownership would cost 1.25 billion. DSB is worth several billion, 30 billion for majority control, 70 billion for total ownership.

Interested?
[ ] Majority Control CCI
[ ] Total Ownership CCI
[ ] Majority Control DSB
[ ] Total Ownership DSB
[ ] Nope

[X] Investigate jobs suitable to ParSec.
-[X] Focus on jobs requiring either Company (5 Teams) or Platoon (1 Team) force levels. Remember to factor in the force multiplication provided by the use of Legionaries.

Numerous human frontier colonies and colonies further off the relay network are looking to supplement their security. On average you could earn about 5 million per team assigned to such jobs. However there's more profit to be made in other less "safe" jobs.

An anonymous employer is offering a 200 million bounty for the destruction of a terminus slaver base in the Gusuk system. The bounty is for the total destruction of the base and the death of every slaver. Problem is we don't have the space power to attack even if they probably only have raider vessels. We could however try to be extremely clever, sneak in and either hijack the site's GARDIAN, or steal a vessel or two to destroy the others. It would take five teams at a reasonable minimum, but its a risky op with what we have.

The abolitionist faction on Anhur is offering us 30 million credits per team for a year-long contract. Anhur is becoming a proxy for some of the Hegemony-SA conflict and there are very good odds any teams sent here will see combat.

Do you wish to take any of these jobs? (You have 25 teams and a Tiger)
[ ] Guard Human Colonies, 5 million per team (How many teams?)
[ ] Destroy Slaver Facility in the Gusuk System, 200 million (Requires at least 5 teams)
[ ] Send teams to Anhur for a year, 30 million per team (How many teams?)
[ ] Keep forces at home for training/other jobs (How many)

Politics:
[X] Hire a lobbying firm to advocate for our interests in Alliance Parliament and Citadel (25 million per quarter). Items of current note being:
-[X] Repulsors
-[X] Cabria
-[X] AI Research

Several items are ones that your lobbyists tell you will take time to see any major effect. Information on the Cabria design does make it to the ears of a few of "the right people," and you begin to pick up requests for more details. At this point some of the ship is more theory than anything else, but people are aware that you're intending to make ships and they, like all other tech PI produces, will be something incredible.

[X] Try to capitalize on saving Terra Firma party chair, make him less hostile. Hint that more support in Parliament might persuade us to open distribution hubs and marketing/design HQ for civilian products back on Earth.
Terra Firma is above all else an Earth-centric party. As it stands PI being a colonial company puts you at odds with their general policy. They're going to have to see something from you first before they're willing to support you. Opening facilities on Earth is going to score you far more credit with them than anything else. However, the Party leader does say that he will discourage members from getting in your way on issues that aren't a primary part of Terra Firma's platform.

Other:
[X] Publish the connectivity side of Hyper-modularity as an open standard, and apply for an ISO specification

It's done. Now people just need products that use the tech.

[X] Sponsor the creation of a BNI/ANI E-Sports league.
Creating an E-Sports league has helped popularize the NI technologies and games played with them. There's been talk of having a large convention for the final rounds.

[X] Offer to supply up to 100m to fund Liara launching an expedition to Intai'sei - 100m
-[X] Send a company (5 teams) of ParSec Troops to provide security for the expedition. Someone might suspect Liara found something since she is organizing another expedition so soon after her last.
-[X] As a surprise gift send along a set of top of the line, publicly available, Biotic capable armor retrofitted to include an Arc Reactor and Kassa Guardian Angel Shield system - 1m
-[X] Use your Alliance contracts to make sure warning that an archaeologist friend of yours has determined an important Prothean relic is very likely on Intai'sei gets through to the right people. Mention that you are sending a force along as an escort while she searches for the location, but there could be a possible security situation on the planet if anyone else comes to the same conclusions, and a "random patrol fleet" just happening to be assigned to the area until the relic is found might be a good idea.

The Alliance thanks you for the heads up. You're not sure exactly what they're planning to do, but you're a civilian, and telling you may break opsec, or something. The visit to Intai'sei is surprisingly fast. Less than eight days later, Liara is back with a block of solidified rock, presumably containing the box.

With your permission, Liara borrows a small lab room and begins to use a variety of low impact tools to chip away at the rock, slowly revealing a sealed metallic box. The lab room is sealed and the air replaced with neural gases before the box is opened to prevent any artifacts from degrading.

Several people including yourself stand in the lab room in breathing gear for the opening of the box.

"Liara, you okay?" you ask as she stands before the box, a little out of it. It almost looks like her eyes have a blackish tint.

"I'll be okay. I had to sink into the memory a bit much to find the box, and well... I remember burying this box. As though it were me all those years ago. It messes with one's perspective a bit." she says with a weak smile.

"Regardless," she says and opens the box's seal. Inside are a variety of items: a stack of plastic cards with writing on them wrapped together, a handle, a thin metal rectangle, two bottles containing unknown fluids, a rectangular plastic box, and the item that stands out the most: A plush doll of a bipedal alien creature. A quick scan shows the items inside to be safe as far as an initial scan can tell.

"I wonder who you are that someone felt it worth putting you in here?" Liara asks as she removes the doll.

"I think it's less a 'who' than a 'what'. It looks mass-produced and it's a small plush doll, the sort for children. It wouldn't look out of place on my stuffed animal shelf. And as Fanel's rule of thumb observes: 'if a Prothean artifact looks like something than it will be just that most of the time'." you say, "So at least one message is clear: 'We give our children dolls to play with, do you?' Or something like that."

"True, but still, what is it a doll of?"

"A Prothean?"

"As good a guess as any other."

The greatest shock comes when Liara removes the thin metal rectangle. An electronic device of some sort, it activates the moment Liara's gloves touch it. You quickly attempt to move it away in case it's dangerous, but all you succeed in is being in contact with it when it turns on, and you see.

You are in Paragon Industries HQ/The Citadel/Center and you gaze upon the greatness of your Company/Empire/Achievement, and it is wondrous indeed.

Then you suddenly stand outside Landing/An Unknown City/Home and it burns. From the sky come ships. Black-Necron?-Tyranids??/Metal-Insect-Cuttlefish/Destroyers and they destroy all that oppose them. Even the Cabria/Particle-Beam-Crusier/Powerful Warship floating above the city to protect it is swatted aside. You turn and run.

After a journey you are exuasted and spent before a cave. In the cave you approach a box. Opening it you see a set of items. Toys, pieces of a civilization. You pull out a ANI/thin metal rectangle, bring it to your head and...

Returning to reality, you pause, "So that was either the fall of the Prothean empire, or a commercial for a movie."

Liara looks profoundly disturbed, "The first, I'd argue. That city... it's the one that the treasure hunt for the box said to start from. There's nothing there any more. Just a flat plain with no signs a city ever stood there."

"You should probably take a break. You said you were too far into the memory before, that had to have just made it worse." concern filling you voice.

"Yes that may be for the best. I... I think I'll take a nap."

As you leave the room, you contemplate how to tell the galaxy the Protheans were wiped out by giant Metal-Insect-Cuttlefish things. At least, you're fairly sure the Necron and Tyranid imagery was your brain trying to translate the memory using your own associations. The galaxy is screwed if the people who invented 40k were on to something.

Research Actions
[X] Warp Barriers [400] - 50d10+165 (97.7% chance of completion)
50D10+165 → 420 =420/400 Finished! Overflow+20/2=10

"We got the sensor network talking with the VI managing projector power properly, and with some intelligent projection triggers the Warp Barrier project is a success." Gaver Dor reports, "We liberated several ideas from the Cyclonic Barriers system, so I'm pretty sure we could install that system on any thing and it'd be compatible with Warp Barriers. Vice Versa as well"

"It also passed the non-hostile contact tests?" you ask.

"Yep, it won't activate and damage things it shouldn't," Gaver grins, "and will activate when you punch things."

"And that's what truly important."

"Of course! Mind the safeties aren't perfect, but anything that slips past them will be an extreme edge case."

Can include Warp Barriers and Cyclonic Barriers in products or sell mod/upgrade kits.

[X] AI License Preparation [800] - 90d10+360 (97.92% chance of completion)
90D10+360 → 839 =839/800 Finished! Overflow+39/2=29.5
Preparing to research AI is a subject with several elements. Surprisingly, the increased security is the least of the problems. Specialized VI programs are run with a massive hardware advantage to simulate an AI attack. Additional cut offs, both manual and automatic, and specialized hardware environments are developed.

The other issues are moral and legal. Morally speaking the creation of a new sapient or sentient entity is a complex issue, not to mention one of the requirements for an AI license is having produced a work on this subject. To consider this issue, you have collected your scientists to discuss the issue and review all previous work on the subject. Hopefully, you can assemble a consistent moral and ethical framework to use.

The legal issue is the oddest. In your review of previous AI works you find A History of AI Research by Basen Vel. In it, you learn about a very interesting legal mess caused by the Geth Rebellion. Prior to the Geth Rebellion, the enslavement of AI was made illegal and there were small numbers of free AI running around Citadel space. The Asari author specifically mentions that the latter fact is often forgotten, sarcastically pointing out "It was only 300 years ago." After the Geth Rebellion free AI were also made illegal in general and the creation of AI without a license was banned. Both sets of laws remain on the books.

Legally this means that any AI produced needs to be sub-sapient, going much beyond that risks triggering one law or another. The entire thing is extremely awkward.

Of course you still actually need to get a license.

Have met the requirements to apply for a AI License.

[X] Anti-starship Torpedoes [400] - 40d10+160 + (30d10+110)/5 (97.16% chance of completion)
40D10+160+(30D10+110)/5 → 453.4 = 453.4/400 Finished! Overflow+53.4/2=56.2

Anti-starship Torpedoes are very complex feats of engineering. Advanced VI, powerful engines, and armor all endeavor to get a powerful warhead close to a ship through a gauntlet of interception fire. Most don't make it.

PI however has made advances in all those fields, the only thing you need is a big enough warhead. A simple fusion warhead is merely the starting point. An x-ray opaque case will channel the detonation into a filler material that will transform the energy of the detonation into heat which will super heat a layer of metallic hydrogen into a spear of super hot plasma moving a significant percent of the speed of light. Not that this is a new idea - project Casaba-Howitzer suggested the idea over two centuries ago - but updated with modern materials and techniques, such a warhead should severely damage a starship.

The resulting package should be a major improvement with a lower sensor profile, fast speeds and thus far more likely to hit and deliver its payload. Adding Arcane Blur plates would be an even greater improvement.

Can now produce Anti-Starship Torpedoes.

[X] Huai-Hai Class Frigate Block 6 Upgrade [50] - 0d10+50 (100% chance of completion)
50/50 Finished!

Huai-Hai is incredibly outdated. The thing was originally developed pre-first contact, after all. You do the best you can to revise the design and integrate new technology into the ship, but half the time you find yourself reworking a previous designer's attempt. You efforts will allow the existing ones to fight better and have improved the ship's operational parameters. However, when sending the finished schematics to the Alliance Navy, you append a note suggesting that no further block upgrades be made after this one, the design is just too dated.

[X] Waterloo Class Frigate Block 3 Upgrade [50] - 0d10+50 (100% chance of completion)
50/50 Finished!

A much more recent design upgrading the Waterloo is a fair bit easier. Several design elements can be upgraded either with new tech or proprietary PI technology. The part you're proudest of is the vastly increased rate of fire for the spinal gun. Thanks to the arc-reactor, the spinal's capacitors can be recharged so fast that the main limiting factor is the rate a new round can be loaded into the gun.

[X] Flawless Blackboxing/FRM [368/3200] - 40d10+115 (95.34% chance of 673/3200)
40D10+115 → 337 + 368 +53.2 = 761.2/3200 Work In Progress

You continue to pursue better and better ways to obscure the details of your product's operations. However, this will take much more work.

Pooled RP: 50

[X] Prepare for your upcoming Interviews
Communication is a complicated subject you quickly find, much less persuasion or presentation. Practicing with people you know and digging into the the theory leads you to one conclusion: you should take a class in this.

The University of Serrice offers a class in practical multi-racial discussion, debate and presentation, which you determine is worth taking. The entire class is actually handled in a VR space, allowing you to attend anonymously and remotely. Matron Del, the class' teacher, offers a variety of insights into how to present the same argument in different ways, depending on the audience as well as several insights into the different races' mindsets.

Overall you learned a lot and the class involved a large number of practical exercises, so you feel quite practiced.

Negotiation +1

[X] Begin peak human treatment (May be chosen twice per quarter. One quarter per single stat upgraded (stat=>6) or four quarters for a "full" upgrade (physical=>6), +1 quarter for large (>=+4) upgrades, +1 correcting extreme health issues, +1 for attempting maxed or super human upgrades (=>7+) ala Captain America, -1 [min 1] for smaller (<=+1) upgrades. May choose to raise stat to a lower level than 6 if desired)
-[X] Full Captain America Upgrade (Part 1/5)
-[X] Spend some time doing some relaxing like playing video games, messing around in a VR world, remotely accessing computer monitors across the facility to act like some kind of
ghost in the machine. That sort of thing.
Laying around while your body is altered would be really boring if it wasn't for the ANI system. Thankfully, you can spend your time doing something else with your brain. You enjoy playing games and just generally taking time off. Of course, your idea of taking time off is to build a VR world where you literally play God. Your SimUniverse is quite fun, although one of your longer running setups started tripping the psuodo-AI warnings... best not to let that happen.

Exploring the facility is entertains you for a while. Before long though, you find yourself visiting Liara studying the contents of the box in one of your lab rooms on a semi-regular basis. You apparently make a very useful VI-like lab assistant and hanging around is fun. Both because Liara is one of your few friends and because learning about the Protheans is quite fun.

"Artifact four of the Intai'sei Time Capsule Cashe, appears to be a handle of some sort. Grip material is an unknown plastic substance. Detailed engravings present on segments not in contact with presumed hand placement. High visual similarity to bladed dueling weapon handles found in many races. Dark energy emitter at top." Liara observes, her voice recorded as she studies the described artifact.

"Internal scans show an eezo system and a depleted power cell. Simulations show that the emitter would project a dark energy field that produces massive shear capable of cutting though any solid material. Power cell is of unknown type and nature. It can cannot be recharged at this time." You add looking over the data, "I'd hypothesize that this is a sport or ceremonial weapon. The engravings are not consistent with the observed nature of Prothean military gear, see Jasdafon et al."

"I would concur. Most likely sport, due to the grip."

"The projector is apparently designed to produce a shear weaker than it reasonably could, indicating a concern for safety with such weapons." You pause the recording grinning, "I'm going to try and build one, I can't imagine what I'd ever actually use it for, but it be really cool."

"The melee energy weapon is a common cultural archetype, though which weapon varies. Turians have a thing for spears, Salarians daggers, both humans and Asari swords. I recall reading a paper on it," Liara says thoughtfully.

"And it appears that Protheans may also be in the sword category."

You have acquired a replica Dark Energy Shear Blade. It's basically useless in modern combat as far as you can tell, but it's really cool.

News:
Tento Ra Iy interview with Sana Vand
"So how does you new power generator compare with the arc-reactor produced by Paragon Industries?" The interviewer asks a young Asari.

The Asari, Sana Vand, responds, "While the arc-reactor is great for large-scale or high power needs we're hoping to provide a cheaper power source for small lower power systems. Arc-reactors are rather expensive for civilian use and our new DESC cells provide reliable long-term power at a lower price."

"Goddess, Gilla will be insufferable," Benezia said turning off the holoscreen on her desk, "'Hey look, I'm the Matriach funding the company that is providing the humans some competition.' Maybe I should take a vacation so I don't have to listen to her."

"Woman doesn't even know about the Beacon. Useless as it is right now. Crazy girl claims she figured it out by looking at the data Liara got from PI. Then again Shepard claims that she just "figured out" the arc-reactor, no Prothean tech or data involved; maybe we're beginning to surpass them? For all we know the rest of the Beacon contains a million and one stir-fry recipes"

Benezia smiles "I should at least send Liara congratulations. She's come far."

Final Moments of the Protheans?
Liara T'Soni (PhD Prothean Archaeology) shocked the academic world yesterday when she sent out a data file containing a recorded memory asking for it to be reviewed by the Prothean archeological community. Dr. T'Soni had previously released another memory file that showed a path to a location, now determined to be on the Alliance planet of Intai'sei.

The new memory, extracted from an artifact found on Intai'sei, depicts what some, including Liara T'Soni, believe are some of the final moments of the Protheans. Available for viewing here. The imagery has been described as haunting, especially if you've seen the earlier memory.

While there is some debate over what it exactly means, the summary provided by Dr. T'Soni covers it well: "It's either a memory of the end of the Prothean Empire or a trailer for a movie. And it makes little sense for a trailer. Why depict going out of the way to one hidden spot? Why is the city that was there so thoroughly annihilated? I think evidence is mounting that any 'natural disasters' had little to do with the end of the Protheans. it's far more likely that there was a war of mutual annihilation, something that seem to be an all too common galactic event. Alternatively we may have just found out about the goddesses described when precontact theorists said it was more likely that we'd meet, 'goddesses or slime' than others at the same level as us. Unfriendly as they seem to be."

Hostilities on Anhur Increase
The rate of skirmishes between the Na'hesit and the Abolitionists has increased to a nearly daily level. Funding from both the Hegemony and the Alliance has some fearing that this will turn into a proxy war and possibly a testing ground for new weapons of war.

Analysts and locals both have little hope that a civil war on Anhur will be avoided. "It's basically started. 'Just that no one's wanted to commit to a large engagement yet. Both sides are hoping to get the edge before they start anything," said local news caster Hugo Delman, "PI gear from the Alliance, Batarian warships, anything that'll tilt the odds in their favor. A prolonged battled might draw in the Alliance or the Hegemony, and then it'll all got to hell.

Pirate Raiding in the Terminus Damages Trade
Trade in the terminus has suffered a major set back. Concentrated Pirate forces have be able to attack previously well guarded targets. Trade in the Terminus region has always been at risk due to pirates in the area but the increased activity has produced a slow down in the Terminus economy. May governments are increasing military spending, but trade is mostly like only going to get worse before it get better analysts warn.

Ilgus Velon at the Hierarchy Center for Interstellar Criminal Activities, points out some interesting additional factors. "They [the pirates] have not targeted the Alliance even though the Alliance is largely responsible for the newly concentrated pirate forces. In addition they haven't attacked the Elkoss Combine, a major Terminus manufacturer. It's hard to tell what that means, but it is odd."

Turian Hierarchy Unveils new Powered Armor
The Turian Hierarchy unveiled their new Sagon powered armor today. Similar to the LegionaryTM produced by PI, the Sagon is designed for the Turian form and is powered by a PI Arc-ReactorTM. The main feature of note is the integrated Shield Network System, which coordinates the shields of several Sagon armors into a unified whole.

"The battlefield of the future is changing and the Hierarchy has no reason to be left behind." Said one general.

High-Energy Plasma-Ion Drive Unveiled
Severcen Aerospace, a Salarian company has revealed the newest development in space transportation. The new High Energy Plasma-Ion Drive (HEPID), works much like older drive designs, but to increase performance the energy of the exhaust has been increased several fold. Using the output of the Arc-ReactorTM the drive creates unparalleled thrust using far less fuel. However, the drive also produces increadible amounts of heat, which is counted using the newly developed "thermal superconductor".

Severcen expects to see a boom in both their bulk hauling product line as well as selling individual engine units.

Political Briefing
Terminus
There's been a lot of back and forth over the pirates effecting trade. Generally speaking there's three groups. The blame the Alliance group, the blame everyone randomly group, and the patently endure it group. Needless to say we shouldn't really develop any business plans for this region of space, not only are it's pirates, but some of the locals might be hostile.

Citadel
Well the advertising worked. Humanity is more "cranky pissed monster" than "war mongering assholes". It's not exactly the best diplomatic reputation, but we'll take what we can get. It's changed the view some have of PI as well. These been around of "if only" regarding the raid on Mindoir and PI's start-up. If the raid didn't happen then maybe PI wouldn't be so invested in weapons production, for example.

In other news the Citadel faction have been sniping at each other, in no small part over the whole how did the human (and Batarian) thing get so screw up. Lots of blame game, let's keep our head down to much metaphorical shit is flying.

Systems Alliance
Trying to get the Repulsor to the civilian market or to the Citadel isn't making us any friends right now. Some people are saying that we're to focused on profit to consider the strategic goals of the Systems Alliance.

Anhur
You've seen the news. There's going to be a war here. It's a job opportunity for ParSec and the abolitionists have morality on their side. Bad news is that it's probably going to turn into a proxy for the Systems Alliance and the Batarian Hegemony. These already been a fair amount of diplomatic harsh language traded. It could be what sets off the Alliance-Hegemony conflict. I know there's been some debate whether the Alliance should be sending ships over.

Jeneta Entertainment a large galactic company that produces simstim movies and runs many theaters would like to buy FRM licenses for our ANI system for use in production and viewing of their films. They would either like 47 million licenses or a pay-per use license.

As required by our being paranoid about everything we have reviewed the company. We see no reason to believe they have malicious intentions. They just seem to want to upgrade to newer technology.

Licenses?
[ ] Sell 47 million licenses (15.228 billion expected profit)
[ ] Sell an unlimited pay-per use license. (5 billion profit, 1.38 billion per quarter for each quarter afterwards for eight quarters)
[ ] Don't sell
[ ] Some other offer?

Should we also be using FRM Licenses more?
[ ] For everything
[ ] For General Sale
-[ ] Including Arc-Reactors
-[ ] Not Including Arc-Reactors
[ ] Nope

Special Events:
Spectre
"Dr. Shepard you are receiving a video call. The caller is using a government ID, registered to Ambassador Udina of the Systems Alliance Citadel Embassy." Cortana informs you.

"Okay then put him though." You say wondering what this is about.

Once the connection forms, you address your caller, "Doctor Rebecca Shepard speaking how may I help you?"

"I'm Ambassador Udina. I'm calling to inform you that you should be receiving a Spectre in the next few days to investigate claims of illegal held Prothean artifacts. It shouldn't be an issue, but I figured since I knew I should give you a heads up." he informs you.

"Surprising that you would, seems like it's something that the Council would want to keep quite about until it happens." you subtly question.

"I may have been in the meeting where they decided that this was a reasonable course of action." Udina explains.

"And you had no influence on them making that call?" you ask.

He grimaces a little, "I may have responded to their 'discussion' regarding PI and humanities technological development, with the observation that they were free to check and that humanity had nothing to hide." he admits.

"Ah well, not like that isn't true. Now all I have to do is figure out how to deal with a Spectre around and my proprietary technology and research." you contemplate.

"I'll have one of my aides send you any files I can dig up."

A few days later:
A tone draws you out of your thoughts as you contemplate reality and how to twist it for your on ends. "Dr. Shepard?" a voice says over the intercom.

"Yeap, I'm here, what's up?"

"I have a Hanar here, by the name of Datin. He claims he's a Spectre and would like to inspect the facility? There's also a Drell." you can here the 'I just work here' in the receptionists voice.

"Right have security run an ID check to see if he's actually a Spectre. I expect he is, but need to follow proper procedure and all that. I'll be right down five to ten minutes."

As you rush down to the campus entrance, you get a message from security. The Hanar Datin is indeed a member of the Council's Spectre forces.

Well here goes nothing, you walk up to the Hanar, "Docter Rebecca Shepard CEO of Paragon Industries, how may I help you?"

"This one is Datin of the Spectres." the Hanar replies, its bio-luminescent speech translated into verbal speech thanks to the magic of translators, "The Council has instructed this one to investigate your company regarding any illegal Enkindler artifacts." The Hanar sounds indignant, though it's the council that is the target of his annoyance.

"So, how does this work?"

"This one will sign a non-disclosure document regarding anything this one and this one's companion see in this facility that isn't related to this one's investigation. The document will be filed with the Spectre office and will be binding. Spectres may be above the law in general, but their agreements are bound by the authority of the office. Then this one and this one's companion along with an appropriate escort of your choosing will check the facility. If you have any complaints or issues you can take them up with either the Spectre office or the Council. This one has done this before; this one has a degree in the artifacts of the Enkindlers, thus the council sees fit to have this one investigate such matters."

What Datin has said does match the files Udina sent you. The Drell has stood silently by this entire time.

Right so this investigation is going to be a thing:
[ ] Go along yourself
[ ] Eh a couple of security people should do it
[ ] I have a few questions...
-[ ]Write in
[ ] Something Else?
