Maybe this as a plan:

Mami brings the following forces to Seto's area for a one day action:

Mami
Kyouko
Taya
Kaoru
3x Clairvoyants
6x Barrier Generators
4x Healers

First action is for an initial scout force of Mami, Kyouko, Taya, Seto, Kaoru and 1x barrier girl to enter the miasma (all Serene's wear full Kevlar). The goal is not to find the demon, but to see if Kaoru's magic can counter act the negative emotions effect of this demon.

If the answer is no, then they pull back and Kaoru and barrier girl join other group outside the miasma to provide emergency evacuation and healing. Reforming, Mami, Kyouko, Taya, and Seto go back into miasma and kill the demon with just them.

Taya provides clairvoyant warnings so we avoid getting killed in a surprise round. Seto provides teleportation. Her main job is to make sure no one gets killed. Mami wraps it up in ribbons to hold it down and snipes. Kyouko and Clone provide the primary melee attacks to kill the thing after Mami has it tied down. We have to be very aggressive to kill it quickly before the miasma effect wears us down.

If the answer is yes, Kaoru's magic does counteract the demon's negative emotion ability, then they withdraw and reform in the following organization:

Hunting Pack that returns to the miasma:

Mami (w/ full Kevlar)
Kyouko (w/ full Kevlar x2)
Taya (w/ full Kevlar)
Kaoru (w/ full Kevlar)
Seto
Seto's team healer (Vet)
2x other Serene Clairvoyants (Vet) (w/ full Kevlar x2)
5x Serene Barriers (Vet) (w/ full Kevlar x5)
2x Serene Teleporters (Vet) (w/ full Kevlar x2)

Healer and Evacuation group outside miasma:

Seto's shielder (Vet)
Seto's shielder (Green)
Seto's Healer (Green)
Seto's Generic Vet x3
Seto's Generic Green x1
Serene Healers x4
Serene Clairvoyant x1
Serene Barrier x1 (w/ full Kevlar)
Serene Teleporter x1 (w/ full Kevlar)

Plan is as follows:

We have Taya and the 2x Clairvoyants provide our early warning, so minimize the chance we get surprised. Barriers provide barriers protecting us while we snipe the enemy, they can trade off and reinforce each other, Elite's excepting Seto provide attack power (Mami and Kyouko especially, Kyouko can summon additional spears you know, spears can be used as throwing weapons.) Seto provides battle filed mobility, making sure no one gets killed. Other 2 teleporters are there to provide evacuation for any injured. We have a healer in the main group to provide on-site healing if needed, she is to focus on stabilizing girls so they can be teleported out for greater healing at the healing station. Extra barriers can provide protection to teleporters evacuating people. Essentially the combat attack force is mainly Mami and Kyouko, with everyone else in a support role (barriers, teleport evac, clairvoyant warning system, healer).

The Clairvoyant with the healers is there to provide teleportation coordinates to the teleporters going back in to the hunting group. The teleporter with the healing group is there to immediately teleport to join the hunting group when another evac comes out to be ready to provide an evac to a new person. The teleporter going back to the group can take the Barrier generator with her to provide immediate defense on arrival in the hostile zone. The teleporter that stayed with the hunting group is to wait until the teleporter that has just arrived is charged up again before leaping out with 2 Barrier generators, one of which will jump right back with the teleporter with the healer group (along with the healed injured girl, we got to keep the Elites fighting).

This way there should always be at least one teleporter in the hunting group ready for immediate evacuation teleport, and usually two. There will also always be a minimum of four barrier girls in the hunting group, and usually five.

This of course assumes that the teleporters and the barrier girls are not the injured parties. If a teleporter is injured, then after teleporting the injured teleporter out, the teleporter on standby should take the uninjured teleporter back with her when they telport in and the injured teleporter goes on healer station standby once healed. If a barrier girl is injured, then there is no need to teleport 2 barrier girls to the healing station and leaving one there as the new standby, instead the injured barrier girl will become the standby once she is healed.

What? 40000 square meters is a circle 112 meters in radius. It ain't that large.

Or a 200*200 square.
Yeah this is right, I was wondering where Lightmage was getting 25 square miles, lol. I suppose I could have put m^2 instead, but saying square meters is equally reasonable notation where I'm from at least.

It's pretty much 4 average city blocks, vs a normal one being around 1 city block.

Yeah, I'm used to Meters Squared as notation... so when I saw square meters my brain was like OK 40^2 km. It was a word ordering sort of thing.

Haman's plan looks fairly solid. Gonna try and think on it more in case I can find something we can add to it / improve. Hopefully not the sort of OH WAIT 40^2 km thing. XD

<nod> Good idea to probe for information first. Also, have Taya scanning to test her ability to detect the demon, as well, though not detecting it is not a failure condition, since it could conceivably be outside of her range (worst case is 280 meters away; what is Taya's range?).

Taya provides clairvoyant warnings so we avoid getting killed in a surprise round.
Hopefully she can do better than just warnings. She broke through the stealth of a pair of coordinated specialists; hopefully she can penetrate the demon's stealth, and keep a telepathic connection so that everyone else is aware of what she's aware of, so that it effectively has no stealth bonus.

Mami wraps it up in ribbons to hold it down and snipes.
As a fallback for Taya's clairvoyance, I wonder if Mami can make the entire area for like 100 meters out into a field of grass/ribbons (like hairs on your skin), allowing her to detect any movement across it?

Other than those possible additions, the plan sounds good.

Hm. I wonder if Kyouko will go for this. I feel that she may tell us to simply let Seto hang.
The Kyouko of two months ago might have, but she's been living with Mami for two months now, and there's no way she could have missed how relatively easy things have been for her and everyone now that we've reached a critical mass. Heck, the fact that we can just casually toss together a hunting pack of 15 specialized veteran and elite meguca for a major outing like this ought to be convincing in itself.

Besides, abandoning Seto is wasting a huge opportunity; we all know how Kyouko feels about waste. :)

The thing that worries me the most here is that this is the most dangerous risk we've taken since the first few months of the Serene. There's a very real chance of someone, even many someones, dying, even with all the precautions we've taken, and I'm worried that's going to shatter the weird little bubble of invincibility we've lucked our way into these past 14 or so game-months.

So a quick thing we should do before we fight the super demon, I think it would be a good idea for everyone to write a letter to everyone else to be read in the event that they die. It's a way to prevent grief domino's as it allows for at least a little closure for those mourning.

On the one hand, that's something that should be done. On the other hand, it's not something that should be done right now. We're going into a dangerous battle; we can't have people dwelling on thoughts of dying. However, given this little wake-up call about the risks of our lives, it's something that people should give thought to once it's over.

You know, I'm still curious about this miasma deal. Obviously it would be really, really useful if we could force super-demon to fight other demons before we try to kill it, but since we can't kite a demon outside of its miasma that begs the question of whether or not the miasma itself can be manipulated. Can meguca manipulate demon miasma, maybe push it around with barriers and the like?

Hm. I wonder if Kyouko will go for this. I feel that she may tell us to simply let Seto hang.

Yes, I figured this would be worth an omake. One with Mami pointing out that since it is a wandering demon that entered Seto's area from the north east it might very well be headed our way. So better to co-operate and take it out now while making friends.

Maybe also point out that the main combat sub team is Mami and Kyouko. Just like old times.

Will probably write the remainder of this event as 1-3 more sections, depending on how combat rolls go.

I'll likely write the next section in around 12 hours. Mostly because you're still missing something, which I kind of expected to be in the first like 3 questions. (Which could mean I am expecting too much because of my skewed perspective, but it should have been really obvious to ask.)

Hint: You have others you could ask about things like this besides Seto.

Oh, duh! Did anyone think to ask Kyuubey about the super-demon?

Questions for Kyuubey:
-How strong/adaptable are demons like the one described by Seto?
-Any known ways to destroy demons like this?
-Is it possible to divert "weak" demon miasma to intercept the miasma of the super-demon, and does that usually help?
-Could we pay a few cubes to have you kill the super-demon for us?
-Could you analyze the miasma/super-demon for us, to get more information, at least on projected path but maybe including strengths and weaknesses?

To planners: how many cubes can we afford to spend on answers, if he asks?

Another nice one would be:
-How common are demons like this?

Kyuubey on Class 3 Demons
Kyuubey On the "Superdemon"
I do not know how strong the particular demon encountered by Seto Tomoe is. Going by its description it is likely a Class 3 by Incubator standards. This would mean a potential threat to a population of one million humans.

At this rank it is deemed that those you refer to as Green are combat ineffective, and typically a liability. While Veterans can be expected to have significantly degraded combat capabilities. Elites are mostly unaffected at this level. Multiple Elite level combatants are recommended to engage this Class.

It can be destroyed in the usual methods, though it can be expected to be more durable in all respects than normal.

The more serious issue of demons of this classification and above is that they begin to exhibit not just abilities which aid them in the defeat of Contracted, but also similar abilities to the Contracted. Attempts to force it to engage other demons are typically impracticable, as they demonstrate an awareness of the miasma of other demons and will move to avoid it if needed.

It is recommended that you handle this situation with care. Demons of this classification and above are known to be able to gain abilities from Contracted that are defeated and such can cause an increase in threat rating.

Incubators do not directly kill demons, that is what Contracted are for. It would be an energy loss if a demon was to be killed by an Incubator as it is one of the inherent abilities of the Contracted for grief cubes to form from slain demons. Though I can offer you an additional payment of 9 grief cube units at this time if you successfully defeat it.

Its future path cannot be determined with much accuracy, it will likely attempt to head towards concentrations of Contracted where possible while avoiding other miasma. Estimation of its particular abilities would be an extra expenditure, 3 grief cube units would suffice.

Demons of Class 3 and higher have become significantly more common lately. There are currently several dozen active in the Tokyo area where this one likely originated. An unfortunate circumstance as the rate of Contracted losses in Tokyo is increasingly unsustainable as a result at this time.

...Fuck.

Edit:

So, Tokyo is an effective Deathscape. That's rather alarming. I would say forget about the place, but given the info that these demons are attracted to groups of meguca we'll have to deal with them sooner or later. The thing is, going there in force will just get all the Serenes murdered horribly.

So it looks like somebody in Tokyo is now a victim of their own success.

This is likely one of the things that happens if you drive demon strength up too much

Yeah there's reasons why I said the "Meanwhile in Tokyo" omakes didn't match with what I planned :p

Grief and Hope in balance.
I believe I said somewhere that one of the premises of this quest was that Madokami's sacrifice only made a happy ending possible, rather than making it assured (at least in my version).

Yeah. Now I'm imagining that Homura, if she's in Tokyo, is mostly going around killing these things when she can. Since as a Legendary she'd be one of the only ones who could reliably kill them.

Heck, the Incubators may want to just stop contracting in Tokyo for a few months, let the demons kill off most of the meguca, then let the demons adapt towards predating on humans again before resuming contracting. Otherwise they might run out of girls.
