[X][Weapon] a saber that was shattered leaving behind a curved jagged edge. (Warscythe, a tool of harvest turned weapon of war)
Except reaper and harvest scythes are unviable due to being unwieldy and requiring an insane level of strength and dexterity to make use of even somewhat as a weapon and then there is the issue with how it is constructed offering many many weak points where the shaft could be broken.I should note that regular harvest/'reaper' scythes can be viable, you'd just need to be really, really, REALLY, skilled in their use, like, master level. This is because they have characteristics like having a blade that is parallel to the shaft, meaning it's very difficult for a defender to block it properly ("Oh, you want to block my scythe with your shield? Nah, it goes around.") What's more, it can be used as a hook to grapple peoples limbs or weapons, which can be quite useful in a fight.
...Although this entire argument is pointless, as we are a child, not a some master duellist.
Not to mention the one sharp edge on it faces towards the user instead of the enemy.Except reaper and harvest scythes are unviable due to being unwieldy and requiring an insane level of strength and dexterity to make use of even somewhat as a weapon and then there is the issue with how it is constructed offering many many weak points where the shaft could be broken.
Very true, though there are some weapons which make use of such a trait magnificently. Admittedly they are few and far between but they do exist. Not to mention the one sharp edge on it faces towards the user instead of the enemy.
That's just an assumption. Monk approved of the Scyth being a valid option to vote for. That's it. Nothing on it giving us plant bonus or whatever you mean.
Except that is quite literally the only reason I can imagine that Demi-gods fight with sword (the worst melee weapon) instead of better melee weapons. Or maybe they are all just idiots. Also even if we don't get magic boost the war scythe is better since pole arm > swords.
Her weapon was a scythe in the myths but since riordan swapped it around i am assuming it is now a sickle. Also, please do remember that Demeter's most famous weapon was either a sword or a sickle, depending on which legends you're looking at. I believe in the books it never states which one she uses
Do you have a source? Her weapon was a scythe in the myths but since riordan swapped it around i am assuming it is now a sickle.
She did not use a sword. Her symbols are wheat, bread, the cornucopia, a torch, poppy flowers, winged serpents, and the lotus. Her sacred animal is the pig.
EDIT: I blame my obsessive knowledge on boredom, to much time on my hands, and a love of mythology and folklore.
Yes.
i brought up the sword thing back when we talked about godly metals in this universe she has a imperial gold curved sword in here Greek form. She did not use a sword. Her symbols are wheat, bread, the cornucopia, a torch, poppy flowers, winged serpents, and the lotus. Her sacred animal is the pig.
Her symbols i got from this siteyou have a source?
Everywhere I can find it states that Demeter used a Sword or a Sickle and was called "Lady of the Golden Blade."
That or they don't mention a weapon at all.
Because our character has an emotional connection and memories connected to them.
Your dad had gotten you imported Dutch Tulips as you hadn't expressed an interest towards anything except books and plants, which made it a tad difficult to get you a present, or so you assumed. Of course, the tulips were living only by the barest of margins when you got them, and yet, by the time you had them planted and moved to your room, they were practically in full bloom.
The tulips you're growing in your room are just about five years old, probably older considering they were fully grown when you got them, rather than being seeds. Due to their nature as perennial plants, they were still alive, though it might also have to do with the whole "Demigod Child of Demeter" thing you have going on.
You pluck a single tulip out of the many you've grown. You can tell, by the feeling of the familiarity the plant feels to you and you feel towards it, that it was one of the original ones that your dad bought for you half a decade ago. You take it, along with a clump of dirt for its roots, outside, and then you push the concept of piercing into the flower. This time, it's much easier for you to do so, and the tulip soaks it up, unlike the dandelion. Then, you go and test it out on the same loose wooden plank you used to test the dandelion. The tulip's roots spread through the solid wood as if it were loose soil.
You grin and leave the tulip planted into the wood beam as proof of your accomplishment.
You grin. "Sure." You glance over to where several tulips are growing in a bed. These are the offspring of the tulips you got for your third birthday. They'res still quite young, not even beginning to flower yet. You reach out to one, and as you do, it blossoms into a fully grown pink tulip. You pluck it easily, one of the benefits of plant manipulation. You'd done a bit of reading on the language of flowers, mainly because you'd been curious. Pink tulips had several meanings, but as you held it out to Blossom, there was one at the forefront of your mind. Friendship.
So, seems like we need to get some Pig Caverly for when demeanor cabin starts to use some sacred Caverly.
I know Percy got that benefit from being near water and generally being a very talented swordsman, but I always assumed that it was because he was the Speshul Protagonist. The only other time the books mention some magical effect making someone better at fighting is after Luke and Percy both take a dip in the Styx or talking about children of Zeus. I always assumed that most campers learned the sword because 1. it's tradition, 2. it's common and therefore easier to find someone to teach them, and 3. they're teenagers who likely have no idea what the best pre-modern weapons are. There's also the possibility that swords are somehow better for fighting monsters as the majority of human weapons are designed to kill humans.
Also, please do remember that Demeter's most famous weapon was either a sword or a sickle, depending on which legends you're looking at. I believe in the books it never states which one she uses.
It helps that the sword is one of the more well rounded weapons.I wonder if boar is a valid substitute for pig. Still not as fun as bear cavalry, but you gotta do what you gotta do to stick with your theme.
The real reason it's all swords is because Riordan doesn't study that kind of stuff.
If you want in universe reasons, it's probably convenience. A spear, polearm, or similar weapon of choice is much more of a hassle to get around with. If the weapon doesn't fit easily in a car it's probably too big. Swords fit in cars while still having better reach than a dagger*. Quests spend a fair amount of time running away from threats rather than fighting them.
Remember that to beat most monsters, a demigod just needs to land a good hit with a celestial bronze weapon.
*Most demigods probably learn a bit of the dagger too since that's most likely the weapon they have on them if they're a summer only camper.
