Give me all your yaoi. Get everyone else to give you all their yaoi so you can give me more yaoi. It's sustainable, trust me. :V

You know what, I want to see more of the reverse. Let's have more women who are designed like Kratos and whatnot, as hardcore power fantasies to be occupied and emulated, rather than thirsted over.

Idk, maybe I'm just tired of horniness in general.

(Disclaimer: I'm talking specifically about OT Kratos in relation to ye olde sexual framing debates, I'm very aware of how many people thirst for Dad of War)

Some of this posting is making me realize I'm going to need something like a sensitivity reader, but for the sexiness of dudes.

"Listen, I want some MANservice in my story, is this shit sexy to you, person-who-is-attracted-to-men"?

Isn't there a noticeable difference between "Male fanservice catering to gay men" and "male fanservice catering to straight woman"?

I've heard from other parts of the internet that while there are overlap, there are definitely aspects from each side which the other would find repulsive.

Also, it is a bit annoying and disheartening when people point to all of the skinny twinks in shoujo/josei in an attempt to say that all wömen like that body type. There's not enough love for muscles (outside of bara).

you'd have to pay me to put on the clown makeup in public this consistently, but at least the fact that this topic always keeps coming up means we can always post more beefcake in here
Hey, as a straight male gamer, I am happy to raise the call for more beefcake.

Especially it feels like most of the male fanservice these days tends to be bishie Twinks. I do not have the body frame to be a bishie twink. That is not my power fantasy

give me more of this
I am then immediately reminded of this

Equal Opportunity Manservice for everyone!

I am more of an otome game template kind of guy. Like what kind of personality fits well with the genki everyday girl.

Hey, I'm a big fan of bishie twinks. We need more fanservice of them.

I like really huge muscular guys, but only if they have wings.

I like bishie guys. but only of they've got a prehensile tail.

I blame Nightcrawler and Angel from XMen for my taste.

Oddly, Dan Shive from El Goonish Shive seems to share a lot of my taste.

I'm halfway through the Dead Space remake. And.

I'm reminded of my conviction that Dead Space 3 actually kind of had the right idea regarding its turn to "universal ammunition?" The DS1 remake has the same issue as the original and DS2 - there is very good reason to use the plasma cutter and nothing else for the whole game. Just shove all your power nodes into upgrading the damage on that thing. And then you get a positive feedback loop where you get a nice surplus of plasma cutter ammo which can be sold off for more power nodes, and so on...

The ideal might be something like Resident Evil's system of a very limited ammo pool in the whole game, all of which is found on the ground, instead of the Dead Space "enemies and item boxes drop ammo for whatever you're carrying" system. Though that might require a hefty rebalance of the weapons to make some of them objectively worse (like Resident Evil's starting pistol with abundant ammo vs grenade launchers with scarce ammo) so, eh, maybe not worth it.

Though I will credit the remake for adding a legitimate reason to carry a secondary weapon: the "peeling" system. Now you have one weapon for stripping the flesh from the gribblies and another for cutting through the exposed bone and dismembering them. Brutal.

...oh, also the OG Dead Space games did difficulty better by making ammo and resources more scarce on higher difficulties, as opposed to the remake which just makes enemies harder to kill.

The remake is still good though.

...Horizon Zero Dawn kinda?? like this sorta describes Aloy???

Por que no los dos?

But yes, even if you insist on the fanservice make them overtly formidable and scary as well. Indeed we need more maker prioritizing the latter.

Kkkkkkkkkinda? She's certainly not 100% designed just with thirsty chuds in mind. She's got a very "real actual women have this face" sort of look, as a lot of weird folk got very screamy about. But idk, otherwise her design doesn't really evoke intensity or power, her presentation is generally blandly competent rather than any sort of death machine, and the actual mechanics of her gameplay are more "desperate scramble against overwhelming odds she has to pick apart plate by plate" rather than a more straightforward sort of power fantasy. Not to knock her as a protagonist or anything (there's much more legitimate reasons to critique her character writing) but she's not quite what I mean.

A couple of examples that are closer to what I mean, 'cos while rare they aren't completely nonexistent.

If you vibe with Aloy in that way don't let me stop you, but she doesn't hit me like these characters do.

I never liked that idea a whole lot, because almost every time, the super big muscular girl looks like a guy with a wig on. Bonus points if they wear lipstick.

I like bricc girls in fiction too, but my God, they just make them look Mannish for no reason at all.

Edit: your example of Marisa from street fighter 6 is a perfect example.

The problem is, I've seen way too many people begging to have their head crushed between Kali's thighs.

Although, I think that's the case even if you reverse the genders. I'm pretty sure you could find a good number of women who wouldn't mind OG Kratos doing a QTE on them.

Wait do you mean Mannish?

I dunno how to tell you this, but Butch women exist bro.

And the whole point of the thought exercise is that the sex appeal of the character isn't being prioritised. So while your objection is noted, and also kind of sexist, it isn't relevant. :V

There's always going to be someone who gets horny over a design, that's not really worth thinking about. The point is the vibe and framing in the character's actual design and context, go check out Squirtodyle's earlier posts for a crash course in that.

Oh ok. I actually wasn't trying to be sexist, I really wasn't, I was just bringing in my experience when I come across girl characters like that, because, again, they are depicted in the way I described them. So I guess I misunderstood what you meant.

Okay, I'm going to give you this one for free. If you don't want to come off as sexist, maybe don't respond to someone saying "I think [underserved market/aesthetic] should get more content" with "I don't think [underserved market/aesthetic] should get more content, because I personally do not find it attractive." It is, as the kids say, not a good look, especially when you say it in such aggressively heteronormative language. "Basically a man in a wig" "Mannish" shit like this has been used constantly in attacks on gender nonconformative women since...basically forever?

And yes, you did misunderstand what I meant. On that, at least, you are correct.
