[X]Talk to Dad: You didn't expect to see your father here… or again for that matter… why was he here.?

Would be cool if we in the future got the opportunity to make them reconnect with their families.

Would be really awkward considering they were all replaced by flash clones that'll be dead in a few years and their families don't even know they were kidnapped. Plus what magoose said.

That made the doctor pause. "That's good… John and Sam are in the city on their weekend pass with Sergeant Major Lopez. Go to them, and… be prepared to inform him of the situation."
Given the rolls we had with Halsey and fact Lopez is cleared with ONI to have spartan 2 candidates with him..

Seems like he got involved with the Spartan Project, but in a way to keep the kids mentally stable...interesting

We are going to be like Jesus to the Spartans except we don't have powers but then again jesus also help the ones that had emotions issues if you look at it

Indeed, wonder what effects it will have down the line..
Let me put it to you this way:

The ODST's won't hate you with the passion of a few thousand suns.

Also, maybe ONI won't do stupid shit, and maybe will think like rational... or at least pragmatic people.

Careful, Jesus died for everyone's sins... and that might mean a short quest.
Be more personable with the marines at least... though.. dont know if it will go to the extent of John using his luck to win every hand of Poker he can play...
John beats everyone at poker, not just the marines.
Though if their top brass ever needs to bet thrown under the bus it would be a very good way to distance yourself from the old administration. "Blame your predecessors" is a time tested strategy.
Except that we'll know, and can blackmail the administrations with facts and logic, and can do some mad science on the side.

Good. I know inter/intra service rivalries are a thing(every military or ex-military person I've ever known has talked shit about everyone else) but there's a time and a place and the ODSTs in the books never seemed to know when that was. It made them seem like overgrown children instead of supposedly elite professionals.

We'll figure out how to pull the odd ressurection eventually. The only part of the human body that you need to save is the head and I have... ideas there. Schlock Mercenary has been an excellent muse.

But we are clearly the antichrist.

You can but, if its anything like the CIA, they can be flighty bastards who tend to react when caught out with even more poorly thought out behavior. It all depends on whether or not the people up top are reasonable people.

We'll probably have to help influence things so the right people keep being promoted rather than just lopping off heads. People tend to listen better when they owe you something, even more than if you hold something over them.

So... fighter jockeys, essentially?

These guys are our bread and butter though, considering that we're shaping up to be a black ops, deep penetrations specialist. If we see a friendly combatant, 90% of the time its probably one of these guys.

Well, maybe not us... there are far more evil people around that will try to destroy us if we get in their way.

Though I shall say: Compared to John, the Jesus parallel... We're the Paul in this story.

Hopefully we get some of our people into the higher ranks.

Hopefully... well, without turning all of the Spartans into enlisted men who are unable to become officers... Because that would be a dick move.

Because some people are stupid.

Very stupid, and they might want to prove their the best... not us.

A losing proposition, but an understandable one.

We start out being one of the persecutors until we have a change of heart? I have to wonder about poor Saint Stephen.

One of the advantages of officially not existing is that rules can change in the shadows. Against us or for us. If someone pushes, we pull them into an arm bar when the time is right.

Considering we aren't Serin... Well... actually, Serin's Paul...

We're more luke actually.

Also, I think Sam is Stephen.

Or as I like to call it:

Hippity hoppity... You are now my (Blackmailed) property.

Its a little like being a dragon rider in ASOIAF: You can either keep the dragon so chained it becomes stunted and useless or you accept that you are its master only as long as it wants you to be. And then you make it want you to be.

At some point you just decide you need to feed the dragon some prime cattle whenever you take it out burning down cities or whatnot.

[X]Talk to Dad: You didn't expect to see your father here… or again for that matter… why was he here?

You sat down in front of your father, next to the bar.

"May I speak freely?" You asked as you sat down next to your father. His eyes turned to face you, and he gave a smile. The same kind he gave you when you spent time with one another.

"Of course." He replied, placing a hand on your shoulder for a moment, and patting it.

"Why are you here?" You asked.

Your father gave a small nod. "Jack, give me a few minutes alone, please."

"Got you, sergeant." The bartender and the owner of the restaurant replied, and he walked into the back, behind what you assumed were soundproof doors.

Your father then gave a very long sigh. "When you were kidnapped, I was about to go on a one-man rampage through ONI to get you back."

"And you could have survived that little escapade of anger and emotion?" You asked.

Your father gave a smile. "I'm tougher than I look, and I have enough friends to make life for most of ONI a living hell if I really went at it."

"And they haven't killed you why?" You asked.

"Because they tried that. Then I re-enlisted, just to get them to stop wasting their resources on me." He chuckled.

"And you being here? As our Sergeant Major?" you asked. You had noticed that the position was rather vacant when you first arrived, only to be filled in a few weeks ago.

"As much as Dr. Halsey understands that you are the most important assets the UNSC has ever attempted to create, she also realized that you are children." He stated. "And someone needs to keep the marines in line so they don't try and kill you."

Oh. "The Marines want to kill us?" You asked.

Your father nodded. "No… at least not the Corps itself, but certain unit commanders have been swayed by other ONI project leads and officers to wreak havoc on your program. Sabotaging it to make it seem it is ineffective."

Politics… you really wished that you were not involved in it. "So you're trying to make sure we survive against ONI saboteurs?"

"Yes." Your father replied. "I and Mendez have set up a system where if officers have received orders from ONI, and they attempt to attack without our authorization, we gain valuable blackmail against those that would wish to harm you, and Dr. Halsey will work her magic to make sure that person… is dealt with."

Great. "I thought we were all on the same side." You stated bitterly. Of course, everything was not as it seemed.

"We are, just some people think they are more important than others… especially when it involves project funding," he stated. "Without a war to fight, ONI is relegated to inhumane or downright insane science projects to keep themselves busy. Dr. Halsey is a favorite of the Admiral, so she got her Spartan Program… leaving a lot of others with table scraps."

"Is there anything I can do to help?" You asked.

Your father laughed. "Not that I would want you to help son, you have enough on your plate already."

You looked back to the Spartans who were eating some fried chicken and french fries that were served to them.

He then gave a nod. "You may not be the one the Spartans consider their leader… but you are something that all leaders need." He paused. "You are going to be lacking in many of the things that make people normal. That will make people fear you." He took a drink. "Don't let them become soulless. Don't let them turn you into machines. Because you aren't… and if they do… they will be broken, and they will fall."

You gave a small nod. "Of course."

There was silence between you both, as you understood that… well, if John was a leader… you were the heart.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ah, it was good to be back…

At least Mendez screaming at you is better than wandering around in a giant city with little to no help whatsoever.

Actually, it was about equal.

But no you were home.

What do you do?:
Choose 4
[]Riflemanship: You are being taught how to use, maintain, and clean a standard battle rifle.
[]Battlefield Tactics: You are going to learn how to command people on the battlefield.
[]Robotics: "Do not rely on this machine to win your battles."
[]Hand to Hand: Time to learn how to fight well.
[]Vehicles: "Technically You are not supposed to learn how to drive until you are ten...but Fuck what the chief thinks."
[]Piloting: "Good thing we have flight sims."
[]Genetic Engineering: Dr. Halsey wants you to try this, something about… a fresh perspective.
[]Cybernetics: There were a few cool movies you saw. Scary ones but the way the hero replaced his limbs with robotic ones was amazing.
[]Information Warfare: You want to learn how to use computers to destroy the enemy.
[]Starship Tactics: You want to learn how to lead a battlefleet. It feels… right.
[]Spycraft: You want to be a Spy.
[]Weapons Mastery: You want to learn to use all the weapons on base, to proficiency.

You have some free time on Sundays… something about military tradition or something, what do you do with it.
Choose 4
[]Spend time with Purple Team: Ralph is happy that you are around, but still… not the best right now… Daisy is mad that you are stopping her from stealing things… and Caleb is infuriating, finishing your sentences because he knows what you are going to say.
[]Spend Time with another Team: You want to spend time with your other spartans. They are your family now. (Write in a Team Below this option)
[]The Black Market: It seems that Linda and Daisy are going to start a Black Market of Contraband goods. Might as well give them some help and pointers for base security.
[]Request to Speak to Dr. Halsey: You wish to speak to the good Doctor, and see how much has changed since your last encounter. Hopefully for the better.
[]Go for a walk: You know what you're tired of being on base, you're going for a walk.
[]Gamble with the security group: You have nothing better to do, might as well build a reputation.
[]Talk to Chief Petty Officer Mendez: There are some questions you wish to ask. Like can you help with rooting out traitors, or other things?
[]Snooping Around: Oh what is this, an unlocked door, and a computer that is open… don't mind if I do?
[]To Plan and Plot: You are going to make whoever wants this project to fail die… or owe you big time.
[]A Celebration: It's the One Year Anniversary of your kidnapping… And you are going to view it not as a bad thing, but as a good thing.

AN: Enjoy and Vote in Plan format.

Welp, we have our explanation..

Rival ONI sections screwing each other over for funding..
Guess someones going to be... "clearing house' as it were very soon
