We Will Never Die: Rebooted (A Halo Spartan Quest)

More like they were given the choice of "come with me if you want to live." And they took it because the purges were about to start.

Actually the fleet is fairly represented by the the races though the Shanghilli are predominantly in charge due to it being their ships and they are the officiers.

though the grunts do command several civilian and smaller vessels due to this being a refugee fleet as well.

those little basterds are better at being frigate commanders then elites funnily enough, and Thel Vadam has been the only elite that noticed.
Unggoy have a proper pack mentality. While I don't think that would properly aid them as strategists, as tacticians and proper soldiers I would trust them more than the Sangheili. The Sangheili are exquisite champions but so much is all or nothing within their martial culture. There are a lot of places it just won't translate to.

Unggoy are also one of the groups that will bounce back from their position as refugees. Adulthood being reached between the ages of five and eight, producing between five and twelve offspring in an annual clutch? At that rate they would fully populate a world in a single, unaugmented human lifetime. It would probably be infrastructure that limits their expansion more than anything else.

Are there any methane-heavy worlds on the cold-ish end of habitable? God knows we can't use the things for jack all, not until or unless we tack environmental adaptation into our augmentation regimes, though there would be lots of negotiation before we let the guys put down roots.

Depends on your definition of habitability:

For humans, and other races of the Covenent besides Grunts?

No.

For the Grunts themselves? Oh hell yes. In fact, there are almost twelve of them that can be colonized by the fleet if they so wished... in Human territory, provided they join a new government with Humanity.

THey would be so grateful that they would never betray humanity... and even find a way to start another Grunt Rebellion in the Covenant... and win.

That and they are actually very good engineers and pilots. While they aren't as good as Jackels when it comes to piloting, and industrializing, and starting up a trading empire as they can...

The Grunts can build up a world pretty quickly... provided they are given assistance from other powers.

I would argue that they are like the Japanese right before the Meji Restoration. In dire need of some new ideas, but fully willing to use them if they see it work. And thankfully, Humans are anything if not happy to share ideas... even the bad ones.

But they most likely... (Well the ones that wish to not fight) would rather take part in an agrarian life ruling over a fiefdom, then try their hands at industrialization. Though they are pretty good at trying their hand at being Japan if they really decided it was a good idea.

Which they most certainly might.

hmm this could be one of the negotiating points for the grunts and would make the breaking of the Covenant even more easier

It will take a lot of haggling but, barring mishap, it would be a good deal all around. They don't compete with us due to aforementioned environmental tolerances and methane worlds, while evidently not rare, are still by far the minority.

The worlds would still be nominally claimed by other powers and I imagine we'd need to institute some minor quid pro quo there on top of other dealings with the broader Exile fleet. But just taxable income, or tariff income if an arrangement is made that lets them remain more autonomous, would pay for it in short order. We'd need them to properly hash out one or more governments, at least the foundation stones, before touchdown though.

Jackals are brilliant opportunists but seem to have a worse time maintaining population numbers than even First World humans. Their homeworld doesn't even have a billion of them, its reasonably pleasant, and they haven't been mass conscripted like the Unggoy. There are a couple of billion more elsewhere in their long, long fully colonized system but they tend not to fill anything to capacity regardless of timeframe. They will probably be overshadowed through the virtue of pure numbers.

Wealthy, but demographically underrepresented.

That goes both ways. Some Covenant ideas will end up displacing or complementing our own.

Its more like we got lucky with the lottery that there are worlds that can support Grunt populations in our little sector of the galaxy.

So basically the Irish during the british empire after the famines.

With Giancarlo... he'd just found his own religion and the former covenent worship him as a living god.

Seriously, of the available missions, one of these things is not like the others....

[X]Operation Armor of God: Oh… Mjlnor is finally ready. "Hey guys Wanna wear my power armor?" (Joining the Spartans for getting power armor.)

I really want to see the Spartans become even more bullshit at this point.

calling the vote, Operation kingmaker and Light getting nudged wins.

Operation King Maker 1: A Quiet Place.
Operation King Maker 1: A Quiet Place.

It still made you ache when you could not hear the presence of Light in your mind. It was like a part of you that was always there, gone… yet somehow, still remained through a connection of memories and… shared experience.

But even though you mourned… you reminded yourself of one thing. You were a soldier and an asset to the human race. Slightly less now that Light was gone… but still a formidable one.

That was why you were tasked with leading the security team to protect the ambassador to the newly exiled fleet.

Of course that meant you were flying to Harvest, the only planet that the Fleet was allowed near, to make sure things would be alright.

And start killing and escape if not.

"Tell me Caleb, did you see Aliens appearing in your visions, or was this a surprise?" You asked as you got an MS5b prepared and attached to the small magnet attached to your back to keep it in place.

Caleb just sighed. "Are you talking about an invasion from these guys former bosses or them?" He asked.

"Either or." You stated as you looked to Daisy. You were still angry at Halsey for… forcing the two of you into that kind of position.

"We got lucky I think, that this happened. Otherwise I believe Harvest would be glassed in five years." Caleb stated. You didn't turn to give him a response. You believed him. "Though I think you're more focused on your daughter." He stated.

You sighed, allowing yourself to smile. "A girl… thanks for the tip."

Light always said…

You looked down, letting the thought banish itself from your mind. "I'm just-"

"Lost without Light?" He asked.

"Yeah." You stated.

"Well… im sure he'll be back in one way or another." He stated, putting a hand on your shoulder.

Daisy than sat in front of you and Caleb. "So… how are we planning the security?" She asked.

You rolled your eyes. "Security is mostly fleet security forces, but they are a little antsy. They use plasma weapons, meaning one shot and we're fucked, even with Titanium armor."

Caleb stated. "So if we start fighting, go for the elites, then jackals and then the Grunts."

Why would he call them that? "Caleb, we don't even know their species names." You replied.

"Trust me, they're far easier to remember than what they will call themselves." He stated. "And it's not even racist, because thats what they call themselves."

You found yourself smiling. "Wait… did you-"

"Yes." Caleb smiled.

Ralph than walked out of the cockpit, with a vet full of C36, a shotgun with enough shells to kill a small ship, and a fuck ton of grenades that would likely blow him up more than the C36. Because somehow it always did. "So… we're five mikes out, let's get to the doctor."

Doctor Ellan Anders. The foremost xenobiologist in the UNSC and… well she was the person that the UEG considered expendable enough while they were sorting out… their shitfest that was ONI.

That she was protected by you and Purple Team made things a little bit easier… and understandable that she was not to die… if you could help it.

"No, We're going in blind with half assed translation software, I need something better to not cause an intergalactic incident." The doctor said while she argued with the UEG liaison from Harvest.

"It's the best we can do Doctor, we've only had enough time before they requested a meeting to get this much." The representative stated. "Just stick to the basics, be nice and try not to get yourself killed."

The call disconnected. "Well at least i have some help." She stated as she looked at you. "I take it you have some skill in diplomacy?"

"No." You replied bluntly. "I'm good at inventing things that kill things, and killing things." You stated.

Anders nodded. "Great… Well, try to no screw up."

"I should be telling you that." You replied with a smile. The Doctor nodded.

When you arrived at the Tempest Pride, you were greeted by:

[]The Admieral, Thel Vadam: The… Alien himself who led his people in exile. The Highest Ranking person in the Fleet.

[]The Grunt: Ornak, the Dozen Battles The Fearsome Grunt commander of his own shock battalion was kinda cute when you saw him… he looked… adorable.

[]The Jackal: He was… Zak… a pirate, mercenary… and a drug dealer… was he really the best person to make a good first impression?

[[The Hunters: What the fuck were those things… worms? And how were they going to… Wait, they were psychic… almost as if they expected you to… read into their bond?

[]The Huragok: He cooed at you… and he said. "Welcome Child of Technology… I am Vava… THe AI you have in your possession… may I speak to it?"

[X] The Hunters: What the fuck were those things… worms? And how were they going to… Wait, they were psychic… almost as if they expected you to… read into their bond?

Well, everyone here is doing things whether we are talking to them or not. They would just be talking to OTHER people.

Jackal is... well, they are an interesting culture. If the fleet is offering something, and its possible, he's probably offering the same thing under the table. He'll probably end up negotiating with Oni or some other faction under the UEG since even minor operators have the starting resources he needs to get going. And seventeen other Jackals will be doing the exact same thing. I don't judge him harshly, if that is the case, though it just means that we need to keep him occupied with something, something that makes his being useful profitable to him.

Thel Vadam I can sort of count on to not let other people screw things up quite as much. He is pragmatic enough to grit his teeth if he needs to while trying to defuse things.

The Huragok... I'm assuming that 'Vava' is a direct transliteration of their whale song, on those rare occasions they actually use noise to communicate. Doubled syllable so I'm assuming his name is referencing his buoyancy being way too far either up or down, or else perfectly balanced. This is better communication than even the Covenant gets out of them 99.9% of the time and, yeah, damn insightful to know at a glance that we are an engineered creature.

But, damn, we are probably the only creature who can speak with the Hunters as peers at all. Anywhere.

It might be best to look at this from a perspective of urgency more than anything else.

Indeed. This is who you talk to.

Well, the Jackals are pretty much Ancap, with intrests only in profit, and power, instead of just...you know, other things. They would be nomads if they don't have to pay taxes.

Thel is pretty much the only sane man in the entire fleet.

Well, lest just say that the Huragok pretty much like hummanity based off of us.

Also, really, they can read computers... I'm sure they can figure out our not so special biology and we having superpowers
But, damn, we are probably the only creature who can speak with the Hunters as peers at all. Anywhere.
indeed, so interesting.

If Covenant races got their own new capabilities.. we should figure out what they are..

Canons gotten tossed out the window.. need to see the new universe...

I mean... you guys did ask for cannon to change... so it's changed...from the butterfly wings of change... We got this.

No I'm still not bitter at Karen Traviss for giving me the migraines with her shit story telling, and charecter work to just up and make a better story because I can...

Oh wait.

Well, lest just say that the Huragok pretty much like hummanity based off of us.
We are an homage to their life cycle. We were crafted by inherited rote, by the marks made on our father, by reincarnation, by what it takes to become a Spartan, and then the engineering we carved upon our brothers and our own flesh that allowed us to go beyond commonly acknowledged physics. Tool and wielder and crafter never being treated as separate from one another, the concept of 'want' being taken as part of the parameters of what it is to be that specific tool. We do not question a 'want', we refine the tool and the person around it. One does not demand a hammer be a wrench, one makes it into the finest hammer it is within your hands to make and then also finds a wrench.

Instrumentality is nirvana. I can see how there is a poetry there from their eyes.

You do know that they have seen Evangelion... it's kinda why they think we're like them so much.

And no, a race of super computers still don't understand Evangelion.

Or better yet... Wholesome.

Let's make these Covenant Refugees wholesome... :V
