Let's make a clarification that the intention behind the vote is to not interfere unless a queen is endangered, at which point I'd like to weigh in on a losing side. I also want to listen to what they have to say under pressure, if anything.
Nys stayed still. She watched as Hyacinth moved swiftly, dodging the arrows Moira shot at her. The girl laughed as she twirled the wand in her hand and danced around the arrows that tore into boutique walls.
"Your aim isn't what it use to be is it?" the girl said stopping some of the arrows with a burst of wind.
"My aim is fine," Moira said calling a long arrow to her hand. The tip of the arrow had a white fire blazing. She aimed at Ai rather than Hyacinth.
"You really are angry," Hyacinth said stopping short. "Would you really try to kill Vi?"
"She started this the moment she spoke," Moira said pulling the bow taut. Her burning gaze on the golden-eyed woman.
Ai didn't move or say anything. A smile was still on her lips as she watched Moira.
"You really don't think we can keep going at this point right? She is about to rip that dimension apart and you want to keep this going. Is that fake personality still in control? Why are you so weak to it?" Hyacinth said lowering her wand.
"We don't have time for this." Ai finally said taking a seat on her sofa. "Turn the key."
"No. I won't go back to that world. There is nothing left there for us. It is a world of ruins. Why should we return to that place?"
"Well, I like being a queen better than this whiny teenager," Hyacinth said looking at her hands disgusted.
"Why is the world ruined?" Nys asked softly.
All three women looked over to Nys. The blonde-haired girl watched them with a blank face. Ai looked to Moira as did Hyacinth.
"Once the balance was destroyed, the corrupted Kren spread everywhere." Eurytia finally spoke. "Because of the light that was ripped away the delicate balance was broken. The void was created as Illacrimina's people were a collective, a hive. The corruption spread from their queen to them and they mutated into the monsters you know as the Void."
Nys watched Moira as Eurytia spoke. The bow in her hand disappeared and she averted her eyes from Nys.
"Then the false world, how did it come to be?" Nys asked.
"Moiira created it," Ai answered. "We didn't expect such an issue when we got rid of Nyseria. We had the light so we foolishly thought everything was finally the way it should be. You should have been given to one of us rather than her. Eschalia bestowed the Crown of Light on the Queen of Darkness. It's just like him to create something so tedious."
Nys remained quiet. She didn't feel like Ai saw her as a person but as an object. "So the false world was created because--"
"Because I ruined it," Moira spoke. "I broke the balance of the world and cause it to fall apart. Shadow Kren returned and the corrupted dark Kren tainted countless people causing them to change as well, but not into Void. Because of that wars against the creatures the people became took place constantly and soon the only safe havens were in the cities where we queen resided. I couldn't control the light or use it to its full extent but I was able to create this world to fix everything but I lost the light before I finished creating this world."
"Lost?" Nys asked.
"Nemone found a way into my palace as a servant. He took you after that. With the new world created I didn't have much use for you then. Even unfinished it was enough to save a quarter of the world's population. Many of the others are still there." Moira explained.
"You just left them there to die."
"I did what I could Nys. I didn't know this would happen. When I found you again you were a person in this world and I was different. I don't know what Nemone did to do that. I don't know if it is because this world is made from your power or if one of those deities wanted you this way. I just wanted to make things right. I wanted to protect you but she still found a way to ruin everything. Why can't she just...leave us alone."
"Protect me." Nys laughed awkwardly. "I don't even know if I should be angry with you or not. You lied to me. You locked me away in a damn birdcage! I don't know what I am. All my memories are screwed up because of you and now apparently my other half hates me because I don't have the same pain she does. You ruined me and I still can't find the anger and rage."
"Sounds tough," Hyacinth said yawning.
Moira threw a glass vase at Hyacinth, "Say one more word Aria and I will light you on fire."
"If you can aim it correctly." the girl said before abruptly jumping back from her standing position as the spot caught on fire.
"So since we've all calmed down, why don't you fully awaken yourself Moira," Ai said picking up a cup of tea. Nys noted insistence Ai was.
"No. I don't need to be awakened to fix this. We only need to lock the prison again."
"Then what? Remain here is this place with all our memories restored." Hyacinth said looking around, "I'm used to a higher level of luxury."
"We can't stay here Moira. Your plan failed. I only agreed to help you because you said it would be temporary until we could fix our world. Nothing is going to move forward if we stay here playing house. The Voids are endless here and we are losing the very ones you want to save." Ai explained.
"This world is our only hope. Going back is not an option. Can't you see that there is nothing left? Those we left behind must be monsters by now. Why go back?"
"Because it's where we belong. Where I belong." Nys interrupted.
Moira shook her head, "No it's not. You became a person here. You belong here."
"I was already a person. Moira, I'm Nyseria. No matter how you try to separate me from myself, nothing will change. The same person you called a monster. The same person that you stepped on. Sneer at. Laughed at. That's me. That was me. Being my friend now doesn't change that. I want to go back to my real home. I want to be my real self again." Nys said wiping at her eyes. She wasn't going to cry. She had been through so much that losing her best friend shouldn't hurt so much.
"No, no, no! You're not like her at all. You're not a monster. You're not that thing. You're not her at all. You're the light that should have been a queen all along. Why do you keep saying you're her. You're my best friend. I can't lose you. I made mistakes but I'm not that person anymore. I'm not Ignis and you aren't Nyseria." Moira said desperately.
"Someone's having an identity crisis." Hyacinth took a seat beside Ai that was drinking tea.
"Are you awake?"
"Hmm… I guess I am," Elirius responded.
"How does your body feel? Nothing is out of place is it?" Nyseria asked inspecting the man.
"No, it's fine." He said clenching his fist. "How did you manage it?"
Nyseria pulled at the blonde locks of the knight. She didn't answer and was more interested in poking the man.
"Nyseria."
"Savil'aln. She came and created you a new body. I can't manage something like that. To give you back your true power, she had to be the one to create it." she explained sheepishly.
"Where is she?"
"She said she had other matters to attend to. Her servant had good news for her. Something is occurring and Nys is in the middle of it. That woman is being exposed or something like that." she said.
"How much longer before the gate opens."
"As soon as the key is turned. We leave this place forever." Nyseria said staring up at the stars.
"What is it that you want to do to them?" Elirius asked.
Nyseria instead of answering, asked, "What do you want? Since all the memories have returned did the emotions come back or do you still feel like that doll I sent away?"
Elirius didn't speak. His violet eyes were on the starry sky. He held his hand out and Nyseria's Fifth Affliction came to him. "I will end them and do what I was born to do from the beginning."
"The end of the Era of Queens," Nyseria said softly laying her head against Elirius's shoulder.
What should Nys say?
[] Tell her that they can fix this together
[] Ask her why she hated Nyseria
[] Remind her that they are still friends
[] Tell her to stop hiding from what she did
[] Write-in
The void was created as Illacrimina's people were a collective, a hive. The corruption spread from their queen to them and they mutated into the monsters you know as the Void."
There is also a mention of "the void" being created, which I am not sure if it's significant or not, but appears to be describing something different from monsters.
Shadow Kren returned and the corrupted dark Kren tainted countless people causing them to change as well, but not into Void. Because of that wars against the creatures the people became took place constantly and soon the only safe havens were in the cities where we queen resided.
SImilar issue there. I am not sure if there is a significance between singular and plural, but "Voids" as a species (?) have been referred to in plural so far.
Nys stayed still. She watched as Hyacinth moved swiftly, dodging the arrows Moira shot at her. The girl laughed as she twirled the wand in her hand and danced around the arrows that tore into boutique walls.
Oh. It seems I misunderstood her. She wasn't asking whether Ignis would like to fight with her, but against her. Now it makes... some sense.
Not enough to know why Aria got involved in the war in the first place. Was she bribed?
Who is? Nyseria? What did she do? Most of the queens got awakened without her meddling, and how does any of what she does harm this dimension in any way? Nyseria's plan doesn't work without turning all the keys, so there is no contradictions in one's desire to keep the illusion going. Is there? I am not following.
[...]
So Nyseria was gifted with the light. Or... the Light, as in, a capitalized element, created specifically for her by Eschalia? Vi said it was the will of Escha to take it back, but it's complicated since Eschalia is a composite entity and several other queens argue her on this. And then there is Alyconeiru's conversation with Nyseria about how this was "necessary". Why?
Then it was ripped away from Nyseria, but she still had enough to prevent Elirius from succumbing to the taint, at the cost of her life and sanity. The stolen light was used by Moiira to protect a quarter of their people in a false reality while leaving the rest to be corrupted. (Why did she say she did not have much use for the Light after the creation of the False World? Didn't she say it was unfinished? Why didn't she finish the job?) Nemone has reclaimed the light, and the next thing we know, it became Nys and Moiira's personality was changed to Moira's. The reasons for this are unknown.
So Nys isn't really a person, but a quintessence of an element that made Nyseria once. That much was said before, but only now it sunk in that it wasn't a metaphor, and that which made Nys could have been worn much like a pair of shoes. Moiira thought it'd be fine if she could just take and use it. Why couldn't she; why did their plans fail in such a spectacular fashion? What made Nyseria special?
Also, what was Moiira's great plan for fixing the mess they created? How did the false world help protect against corruption? Why did the queens have to be asleep for this? I am afraid I can't quite make the logical connection between Nyseria being locked away and the mass illusion.
Furthermore, they said that people of Illacrimina were a hive as if it didn't apply to people of every nation. But isn't every Void a hive? Even those that belong to different queens, like Ren?
No, no, no! You're not like her at all. You're not a monster. You're not that thing. You're not her at all. You're the light that should have been a queen all along. Why do you keep saying you're her.
Uh, you seemed to have missed Nemone's and the Voids' nigh fanatical belief in that Nys is what people mean when they think of Nyseria. You don't think Nemone is a monster. You don't share Drellius' conviction that people of Illacrimina are all monsters. Then what defence do you really have left?
I think you are the one who should be explaining why you keep saying Nys isn't her.
[x] Ask her why she hated Nyseria
That's the crux of the issue; Moira thinks that Sine was wrong about everything but this, while we have no idea about the rest but have multiple people claiming that we couldn't have done anything we are being blamed for.
We have Callen on call. Would she brush away Nys' explanation the same as she did Nyseria's?
I wonder what happens if the last of her justifications is blown away... but I also wonder what happens if it turns out that she does, in fact, have a legitimate grudge.
Do we know how Callen died? We have Nyseria's statement that she didn't do it, but why did everyone believe she did? Who framed her, and why?
"Why do you hate Nyseria?" Nys asked. She needed to get to the root of the problem. Though she learned a lot there was still so much she didn't know and the start of everything was Moiira's hate for Nyseria. There was a reason for Moira to hate Nys so vehemently.
"She took away my brother. She killed Callen." Moira's voice cracked as she spoke. The pain of losing her brother bothered her even now.
"Moira, I want to go over what happened without letting emotions get in the way. Is that okay with you?" Nys asked.
The dark-haired woman nodded as she calmed herself down. "It's about time you understood the events of the past. I owe you that much."
Nys took a deep breath not wanting to tell Moira she owed her more than that. She decided she was going to dig into the events that led to everyone's downfall. She only hoped that she could remain impartial about everything. Even if she didn't feel what Nyseria felt hearing about what was done to her was enough.
"First, Nyseria said she said she didn't kill Callen. Why don't you believe her?" Nys asked, hoping Moira could remain calm and objective. From the small meeting she had with Callen, she didn't think he would hang around with his murderer. Nyseria also didn't seem to be someone willing to kill so easily. At least not before now.
"She is a monster. The residual of Shadow Kren. The remnants of the fallen Shadow King. Why should I trust her? She only wanted to consume everything like that abomination from the past. Why they allowed her to become a queen is baffling."
Nys felt something tugging at her mind. A memory that was from a long time ago. A man's voice was telling her something important. Before she could grasp the memory it slipped away. Nys knew it was something she needed to know but she could not remember it anymore. She didn't think Nyseria was preventing her from knowing.
"She wasn't even a normal queen. Her subjects were all connected to her. It was eerie. Like they only pretended to be individuals." Hyacinth interrupted with a disgusted voice.
"I should have tried to destroy her," Moira said, clenching her fist. Her angered expression turned to one of regret. Nys wondered if Moira really thought that killing Nyseria would solve everything.
"Why didn't you?" Nys decided to ask the woman why she didn't. Moira looked away and Nys vaguely wondered if she could exist without Nyseria.
"Killing a queen is an offense neither deity could ignore," Ai explained. "There would be a punishment dealt."
"So you imprisoned her instead. Why didn't you talk to Callen?"
"That thing is not my brother! She created that thing to use against me. She killed him and then tried to replace him!" Moira said enraged. Sparks were appearing around her.
Nys stayed calm. "Have you ever tested him? Have you ever asked him things only he should know?"
"No... Why would I? It's clear that it's just one of her subjects using his memories. My brother is dead. I won't be fooled by that doppelganger." Moira said.
"Does she really have that kind of power and if so what would be the point?" Nys countered.
"I don't know. It never made sense to me." Moira admitted in a whisper.
"Moira, what did you think about Nyseria before Callen died?"
The woman stopped and thought about it, "Nothing. She was just a new queen. I was happy because there was less work for all of us."
"Okay, so you didn't really care one way or another for Nyseria. She was someone who could help you lighten the load. One more question, where did Callen die?" Nys asked. She didn't have a reason for Nyseria to kill Callen. What small memories she had of the real Nyseria convinced her that she was a nice and reasonable person. There was something else going on.
"He...died on his trip to the black sea." Moira seemed to be reliving a moment in her past.
"So those with him saw what happened?"
"No, they died as well," Moira calmly spoke to her. Nys was happy to see her friend resurface.
"So how do you know it was her? Was she violent to others?"
"No. No, she wasn't. Cherrimine had told me she was too nice, too sweet." Moira's breath caught in her throat like she was coming to a realization.
"You two had never met. From your standpoint, she was going to be helpful. Why would she kill your brother, when she never met you. Even if she is a remnant of Shadow Kren would the deities of your world really allow something so dangerous to become a greater force again?" Nys made sure her argument made sense. She had to convince Moira not only to turn the key but to see that there was more to the events of the past.
The tugging began in her mind as another memory popped up. This time she was able to grasp it fully. It was the day she met Callen or rather the day Nyseria met him. It became clear to Nys that Nyseria never harmed Callen, but rather that she saved him. " What if I say I have some of Nyseria's memories. Will you believe what I have to say about them? Will you trust me?"
Moira hesitated as Nys came over and took her hand. Moira closed her eyes as she squeezed Nys' hand. She took a shaky breath before answering, "Yes, I trust you."
"Nyseria found Callen's body in the Graveyard of the Star King. She had never met him before that moment. She didn't even know he was your brother. The first time she met him he was already dead. He had been murdered along with his knights." Nys could clearly see the moment in her mind when Nyseria stumbled upon the torn-up bodies. The fear and sadness were overwhelming. The boy had been tortured and didn't even look remotely like a person.
"Why was he there? The trip was across the black sea to reach Eone's Kingdom. It was dangerous but many knights had done it before as training. Why would he be in that graveyard? Drellius promised that Callen wouldn't go too deep into the territory."
"Why indeed? Going to the graveyard of the Star King was prohibited by Eschalia. No one is allowed there." Eurytia added.
"Moira who told you Callen was murdered by Nyseria?" Nys asked.
Moira let go of Nys's hand abruptly. "No, that doesn't make sense. Was that Callen all along? He tried to tell me but I-I couldn't believe him. He said it couldn't be possible. Callen had no affinity for any kren. That's why I thought he- I thought–"
"You became such a devout follower of Eschalia after Callen's death, even I was touched, it was so strange though. Someone was always by your side from that moment forth. One person that supported your new self." Ai said, watching Moira's expression become grim.
Moira backed away and then ran from the boutique. Whatever realization she had sent her rushing away.
Nys wondered what the woman remembered. She also was confused about why no one had asked these questions before. Then again it seemed like they disliked Nyseria because she was related to the Shadow King and she was different. It was also probably hard for Moira to remove herself from the situation to see what was really going on.
Nys sighed inwardly not understanding why Eschalia didn't step in and prevent what happened. If he gave Nyseria the light for a reason why not protect her? Why let her suffer?
In a place far from Elemencia sat a person who watched over a small child playing. The person that watched over her was solemn. Time was moving too quickly and soon the tiny child would have to leave and fulfill her duties.
"Father. Father look!" the small child held up a pure white ball of Kren that she condensed. She played with her creation showing it to her father.
Escha looked down at his daughter holding the Kren. Her stormy gray eyes were full of life and her pointy ears poked out adorably from her dark hair. "Seria come sit with me."
The little girl scrunched up her nose at the nickname. "Nys. I want to be called Nys."
"Nys does not sound like a name." He said holding his arms out. The child turned her head from him unhappy.
"How about we let your mother call you Nys. I will call you Seria or would you like me to call you by your name, Nyseria." Escha said watching the girl come over and hold her arms up. He picked up the child and let her sit down beside him on his throne. Above them was the vast emptiness of space but the stars were always shining brightly.
"Little one, when you leave I will not be able to protect you any longer. Your mother will stay with you on Elemencia and watch over you." He explained to her as she stared up at him.
"You will not be there?" she asked.
"I can not come Seria. I have to remain here and keep Elemencia safe. That is why you were born. So that all the elements will finally have a balance. Kren is everywhere and hard to control but once other forms of Kren appeared things became more complicated. Then because of the experiment of Klaire and his betrayal--" He stopped abruptly. The child was not paying attention to him anymore. Instead of continuing to dump a bunch of history on her, he gently tapped her shoulder. She looked up at him again.
"Seria you are unlike any other queen because Nurue and I created you together. She purified a small amount of the shadow element to make the dark element. I took what was left of the Star Kings element which was light and we made you out of them."
"But you still can not come with me."
"Who will hold back Nire? I gave him the Circlet and caused all of this to happen. I wish that I could watch over you but Nurue can not hold Nire back. If he gains any leeway he will try and return to Elemencia. That's why we are sending you to purify the shadow element. Inside that element are all the cores of the countless people killed by Akre and devoured by the element. They power Nire. When you purify them they will become your subjects, but unlike the other queens, you are tied to your subjects, because a part of you came from them." Escha showed the child the glass that was the throne room's floor. It was normally dark but now it was clear and below them was something huge. It was a mass of black smoke but inside that smoke was something even more dangerous. A voice whispered from the depths and Escha covered Nyseria's ears. "Do not listen to his words."
Nyseria nodded and he let go of her ears. "Will you come to see me when it's over?"
"Of course. Remember to cultivate your light. Make it grow strong and sturdy, but tell no one what your true duties are. There will be those that use my name to do horrible things. They believe that we are deities but that is not the truth. One day I will explain it to you. For now, keep to yourself until you are strong and capable. Be careful of Savil'aln. She is not evil but she wants to save Elemencia in her own way."
"Father."
"Yes," he answered.
"Can we play now?" the child asked holding up the orb of light kren.
"Of course. Just remember that your light helps the dark. It keeps the Dark Kren pure, so keep it protected. Come on let's send a few of these up," He took her light orb and made it float up. Nyseria's eyes widened and she giggled. He knew she didn't understand but he hoped his words would stay with her until the time was right.
It was the day she met Callen or rather the day Nyseria met him. It became clear to Nys that Nyseria never harmed Callen, but rather that she saved him. " What if I say I have some of Nyseria's memories. Will you believe what I have to say about them? Will you trust me?"
Ah. So Ren being a part of the hive was the result of attaching him to an already existing collective. Cherrini said something to that effect, but I lacked the context to understand.
What about Olna? What did she become? It was said she wouldn't be able to exist after being tortured if it weren't for Callen. What did he do?
What is a subject's "core"? How does it connect to their respective Queen?
What did Nyseria mean that Nem is the only "pure one" left? Why is that important? Others should be able to be purified the way they were before, no?
Then again, if they are all connected, having all of them be corrupted might mean the corruption becomes a part of the collective for good. But if the Queen is already corrupted, why does Nemone matter?
Is Nys not a part of the collective by virtue of being an element?
What is corruption, again? I think I asked this before, and this is what we got:
"First, what is the corruption you mention earlier and how does it spread?" Nys started.
"The corruption is the result of something very precious being stolen from its rightful owner. Without it, nothing was left, but the void and from that abyss came the Voids. The corruption can not spread to humans in the way you think. Humans cannot become Voids, but they can be devoured by one. Thus, adding their souls to the Void's collective."
Savil'aln filled the void left by tearing Nys from Nyseria, and corrupted the collective. The Voids started devouring others, growing in might.
How did the creation of the false world help anything?
How does Savil'aln help Elemencia by destroying the Kren? The queens talk about her as if she were a "True Enemy"... which is probably due to the queens being inherently magical creations, but what would the results be of a world free of Kren? What about the corruption spreading and the world collapsing to a single collective (if I understand the end result correctly)?
It's the second time I hear about Klaire's failure and betrayal, and at first I thought it to be a dropped plot element from the time of this quest's conception... but is it going to be relevant?
Alright, so we see that Escha's will wasn't to destroy Illacrimina, and that he in fact predicted the events that would follow; not that hard since Dahlia, his second part, is a time-traveller. I am still not sure about the relationship between Escha, Dahlia, Alycone and Nurue, as apparently they are in part converged entities and in part individuals, enough so that only two out of the four are considered Nyseria's parents. What's up with splitting the names and personalities in two? It's like a running theme at this point, but the significance isn't the same.
The evidence points to High Priest shifting the blame to Nyseria, but would they go to war just for the sake of power if they couldn't have predicted its outcome? It could have just as easily wipe them out instead. Was there a mastermind, or was it the petty power struggle that destroyed the world?
Was there a conspiracy between the army and the priesthood? Or did Nire somehow whisper in the Eans Valeii's ear? What was Callen doing in the Graveyard of the Star King?
She also was confused about why no one had asked these questions before. Then again it seemed like they disliked Nyseria because she was related to the Shadow King and she was different.
So am I. You'd think there would be an attempt to investigate it from either side, and that something would be out by now.
But apparently we are only just now starting to piece everything together.
[x] Ask Callen about his memory of the events
[x] Ask Ai about what she knows
I'd like to leave Moira to her own thoughts for the time being. Looking into Callen seems to be more helpful now.
What did Ai know about the "will of Escha"? Why is the Forsaken, and what is the new source of her strength?
It's the second time I hear about Klaire's failure and betrayal, and at first I thought it to be a dropped plot element from the time of this quest's conception... but is it going to be relevant?
It's different from the deities' naming scheme which makes use of double names. Escha, Dahlia, Alycone and Nurue were all people that merged into divinities. Nyseria was whole all along, and what later became Nys was just Light bestowed on her by a deity. Technically, the entity you propose to call Seria is Nyseria the Queen, just mutilated and hollowed out. She is the one recognized as the rightful ruler by her subjects, and is a part of their collective. Nys is only acknowledged by Nemone who wants his mother back -- not just the queen -- and perhaps by the ones she saved.
It is still fitting, because what else do you call Nyseria without Nys?
Nys watched Moira leave the boutique, but didn't follow after her. There was still a lot she wanted to talk to her about but Nys would deal with that later. Instead, she turned her attention to Ai.
Hyacinth was laughing about something but stopped when she noticed Nys looking at them. "I think it's time for me to leave."
Nys didn't respond to the girl. She found herself a seat. "Can we talk Ai?
"Sure Nys. We've got time."
"Okay, I'm leaving, it's about to get boring." the girl said, getting up and leaving the shop. Nys didn't bother to speak to the girl. There was no point as the person she knew as Hyacinth was gone. Something she didn't want to think about too deeply.
"You know more don't you?"
Ai nodded slowly, "What do you want to know?"
"Who is behind all of this? Who was that person by Moira's side?" Nys asked.
"Vahnaine's High Priest Eans Valeii. A devout man with only one goal." Ai said.
"And that goal is?"
"The eradication of Alyconeiru and all her servants." Ai said with a bored tone. "He's been after that for so long, you'd think he'd get the point that its not possible."
"Why would he want to do that? I thought that Alyconeiru and Eschalia worked together. Why would he want to do something so stupid."
"Eans had never thought about anything but what he thought was right." Ai sighed, "But he was alway more interested in his own glory than that of Eschalia."
"If you knew all of this, why not stop him or at least tell Moira."
"Nys, it wasn't my job to stop him. Even if I suspected him, how would I accuse the beloved priest of something so vile. I was a messenger but still the queen of another kingdom. I would be viewed as a threat and that would put my own kingdom in danger. Plus, Moiira wasn't in a good place to even listen objectively." she explained.
"Then why join them? Why-"
"Nys, my reason for doing what I did is my business. You should think of me as a monster. Someone who is selfish, heartless, and does whatever they want. That is the only perspective I will allow you to have of me." Ai said.
"But you're a messenger like Eurytia. Why would you do something that you know Eschalia would hate?"
"Because I have my own goals! I won't be a puppet like Eurytia. I won't let my will be overridden by his. What I want is more important to me. I made my choice and I don't regret it." Ai said.
"So the lives of so many people mean nothing to you. What you allow her to do to us-"
"I don't care, Nyseria! I killed your people. I murdered them and I would do it over and over again for what I want. Just like you want vengeance for what was done to you, I want the same."
Nys wanted to ask what was done to Ai but she turned away from Nys and looked at the huge painting on the back wall of her boutique. The picture was of a young girl that looked very much like Ai. Golden eyes and hair and a blank look that was somehow sad. Nys hadn't paid any attention to it when she entered. She had thought it was a picture of a younger Ai. Now observing it she realized it wasn't.
"Who—"
Ai didn't speak and Nys didn't ask again. There was so much left unknown and at this point Nys didn't want to know.
On her way back to her apartment Nys called Nem. He picked after the first ring, "Hey, Nem."
"Are you alright?"
"Yes, I was wondering if you could contact Callen. I wanted to talk to him?" she asked. Her talk with Ai revealed a lot but nothing was resolved. She still didn't know why Callen died, who killed him or why he was at the Graveyard of the Star King. All she learned was that Eans definitely had a hand in what happened.
"I'll call him to the apartment. He should be here by the time you get here." Nem said. "Anything else?"
"No, I should be home in a few more minutes."
"Alright, I'll be gone by the time you get here. Dinner is in the fridge. If you get hungry you can warm it up. I won't be back until tomorrow I have a stakeout." he explained.
"Alright, you don't have to worry, I can take care of myself." she said hurrying home.
She got home and Callen was waiting for her. He was watching TV. He looked up and smiled getting up from the sofa.
"How can I help you, Your Majesty.?" he asked.
"Um, how did you…"
"Die?" he finished for her. He didn't look bothered at all about what they were going to talk about.
"Yeah." Nys said awkwardly. "More like what do you remember from that day?"
Callen's happy face dropped for a second before he gave her a smile. "Nothing."
"Nothing?"
"Completely blank. Unlike Ren, I haven't got a clue what happened to me. All I can say is I was going to the Black Sea with my Captain. I was a knight. Every time I try to think of it, I can't focus. I draw a blank or everything in my mind becomes a jumbled mess." He shrugged. "Sorry, I don't have anything else for you."
"What about Eans Valeii, what do you know about him?"
Callen smiled, dropped again and didn't return. "He was the priest. He was always annoying my sister. She wasn't like everyone else. Even my parents took his words as law, but Moiira was always avoiding him. She didn't like to participate in prayer or things like that. She hated him and tried her best to keep his power at a minimum. I don't remember much else. Dying kind of messes up your memory," he said with a chuckle.
"It's okay Callen. I just have one more question?"
"Go ahead."
"Does the Graveyard of the Star King mean anything to you?" Nys watched as Callen fell into deep thought or a memory.
"Callen?" She called him gently.
"I died there. I should have already been dead… or they thought I was. They left me there so I would be found. "
"You remember?" Nys wondered who was supposed to find him.
"Fragments that make no sense. Let me think about it for a while. I haven't tried to think deeply about what happened in quite a while. I may be able to piece it together with a little more time. How did you know I was at the graveyard?"
"I remembered it," Nys said.
"Is Her Majesty helping or…"
"No, I think I'm just getting back memories that I should have as Nyseria. Or something like that. Everything concerning me is too complicated to explain." Nys said going to flop down on the sofa in the living room.
"Well, If you remember anything else let me know. It might be helpful for me. It might lead to me getting my memories back." Callen said.
"I will," she said as he disappeared into the room's shadows. It was weird to see but she was used to it. Nys sighed deeply, not wanting to think about anything. Still, her mind went back to Hyacinth. The girl was completely different. She wondered if that was going to happen to her. Would she cease to exist if she became Nyseria? The thought scared her but what would happen to Nyseria if she didn't go back.
Closing her eyes she fell asleep. It was after midnight when she woke up. She slept the whole day away. She opened her eyes to see Liri watching over her. The doll sat on the armrest of the sofa. Violet colored eyes stared at her with the normal expressionless face, but Nys knew right away something other than the doll's eyes changed.
"Liri?"
The doll didn't speak, just continued to stare at her.

*Character profiles has been updated. Elirius has been added and Callen had a new look.
"She has to be just like me. That's all that woman wants, but I don't want that. She should be free. I want her to be free but what can I do. She'll never surpass me but you, you'll ruin her."
"Ai…what are you talking about. I would never hurt Hyacinth." Ren didn't understand why the woman was being aggressive, but he was afraid of what she was planning.
"She's in love with you. She's madly in love with you and if mother finds out… she'll only get hurt. She'll only get broken because of you. You who's not worth her attention. You who strive to knock me from my throne!"
Ren knew there was more to this than Hyacinth liking him. He was getting closer and closer to surpassing her record at the university, "You're doing this for yourself."
"No! I would never do that. I-I'm doing this for Hyacinth. You don't even acknowledge her love. How could you deserve her! Then…then you try to take my place. No one can be better than me. No one deserves to be better than me." Ai said grabbing Ren by his collar and dragging him closer to the fountain. He struggled but his hands had been tied.
"I don't want to do this, but I can't lose. I can't lose to anyone. I can't even play simple games with my sister without having to beat her. I can never let anyone win. How sad…right? That woman made me a monster." Ai cried as tears welled up in her eyes.
How long was it that Ai gained her memories and awakened fully? If she was conscious before she murdered Ren, then what did she do it for? It served no purpose.
If it was her "sleepwalking", and an expression of the personality that was the queen, it could be explained away... but a few pieces are missing for it to make sense. The ruthlessness, self-justification and shifting the blame are all there, but what is this about being made a monster by someone else?
Who is Ai's "mother"? Is that Eschalia given flesh?
Then, who is Alyconeiru's vessel? Shouldn't Eurytia know?
What is the significance of the Grave of the Star King, why did Eschalia forbid entering? The story is coming to a close, and we still are no closer to understanding what transpired.
I think even if Nys doesn't know he fell under Nyseria's sway, she knows enough to feel he's evaluating her. The question is, is now a good time to stay true to our nature, or should we stay on guard? I'll go with trust here, for the service rendered to us and to our brother, if nothing else.
[x] Update him
The other two topics are trickier. I am worried about Hyacinth, but what's gone may be gone for good, and I am not interested in Aria in the slightest. Though... being called an Envious One and wishing to "Devour the Light" may be cause for concern.
[] Hyacinth
And Hyacinth's problem is one that should trouble us. If we go back to Nyseria, what will we become? What do people expect from Nyseria if/when she regains the Light?
[x] Nyseria
Does Liri know the reason why Ai does what she does?
How long was it that Ai gained her memories and awakened fully? If she was conscious before she murdered Ren, then what did she do it for? It served no purpose.
Vi didn't kill Ren. Ai the false personality did. Like Hyacinth, Ai awakened but not fully. She had her power but the false personality was in control, which is why she could use her queen powers.
Escha is still where Nyseria last saw him. Watch over the imprisoned shadow king, he's not on Elemencia. Ai and Hyacinth's mother has no connection to Escha. She was just a terrible mother under the influence of the void.
Ai got her memories back some time before the Black Tide. Since the choice The Pride of Amare Ashbridge wasn't chosen we skipped past all that. The story happen off screen without Nys.
Ai woke up fully on her own and killed Amare. I probably need to do a quick -from the other side- for it.
"Liri, are you okay?" Nys said, rubbing at her eyes as she sat up. The doll watched her without moving. Violet eyes glowed in the dim light. Nys yawned and turned on the lamp near the sofa she was on.
"Are you okay?" he answered with a question of his own.
"No." Nys blurted out. She fidgeted with the hem of her shirt. She had so much on her mind she decided falling asleep was the best thing to do rather than think about any of it.
"What wrong?" he hopped into her lap and she caught him.
She bit her lip before speaking, "I spoke with Moira and Ai today."
"Was it eye opening?" he asked as if he already knew what happened.
Nys nodded, "Ai really is heartless. She has no remorse for what she's done. I wanted to make sense of it all but none of it makes sense Liri. Do I have to forgive her? I feel like I have to forgive them all for what they did. Like it's my duty, but the more I learn about them the harder it becomes to feel forgiveness."
"Nys, you don't have to forgive any of them if that isn't what you want."
"But if I don't, how will Nyseria? How will she forgive them? I have to help her move on before I disappear. I don't want her to be lost in her rage." Nys said, ignoring the tears welling up in her eyes.
"Nys, you won't disappear." Liri said.
Nys looked down at the doll through watery eyes. "I'm just like Hyacinth, right? I'm just a fake persona. I'll disappear when I go back-"
"No, you are half of Nyseria. You won't disappear. You'll become whole again and gain back all the things that belong to you. She will gain back the parts of her that were ripped away. Nys you hold all the pieces of Nyseria that made her the very person she was. You won't disappear because you grew to become half of her." Liri explained.
"I don't get it. I thought I was just a piece of her. The light that was taken away, how did I become half of her?" Nys was confused.
"In that prison the small amount she had left was used to save…me. Once her light was gone there was nothing left but the darkness. Dark Kren is not inherently evil but it did come from Shadow Kren. It needs the support of the Light. Light can exist without the darkness but it isn't the same for the darkness. Nyseria can't exist as the person she was without you. When you were taken from her more of her personality and self was taken than we knew. Nys you are Nyseria. You make the person I-" he stopped abruptly and Nys wondered what he was going to say.
"Liri?"
"Just know that I won't let you disappear. Nemone needs his true mother back. Not the hollow one left in that cage. Illacrimina needs their true queen as well. When you return to being your true self then you can decide what to do about the other queens."
Nys nodded, wiping away the tears that finally surfaced. "I also found out that someone named Eans was behind the attack on Illacrimina. He's some kind of-"
"Vahnaine's High Priest. He was there doing the attack." Liri said.
"He had something to do with what happened or he used Callen's death to manipulate Moira. Whatever the case she realized it and I guess went to confront him. I didn't follow. I spoke with Ai and she… she said she didn't regret what she did. She even realized what Eans was doing and stayed quiet. Yet she says she has her reasons. She was looking at a picture of a girl that looked like her. Do you know why she would do this?" Nys asked.
"I know nothing about Vii'ahn. Our Kingdoms had no relationship, but she had a child taken away from her by Eschalia. I don't know anymore than that." he explained.
"That makes sense. Queens wouldn't know much of anything about each other's personal lives unless they were friends. Especially not someone that was probably considered a threat." Nys sighed deeply and then looked at the doll in her lap that was staring at her. "What?"
"Do you feel better?" he asked sincerely.
Nys nodded, "Thanks for explaining. I really thought I was going to be like Hyacinth. Which is great that I'm not but I still feel bad for Hyacinth. I didn't even get to say goodbye to her."
"I'm sorry you lost your friend Nys."
"Me too." she said, patting Liri's head. The doll didn't move away or stop her. He sat on her lap content. "Oh, yeah. Where were you all day? What's up with your eyes?"
The doll smiled and Nys almost threw him off her lap because it was the first smile she got from Liri and it was creepy. She didn't throw him but she felt nervous.
"I spoke with Nyseria," he said.
"You can just talk to her?"
"Yes. I can speak to her. She was the one that made this doll so going to her is easy for me." he explained to her.
"So the doll isn't your real body?" she asked.
"No, of course not. It was the only way Nyseria could save me." he said not elaborating.
"Then who are you? Are you a knight like Callen?" She thought he might be the way Callen answered him when he showed up at the Depths of Silence.
"Yes, I am a Knight." he answered.
"My knight?" she asked excitedly. She had no idea why that made her happy. Callen was her knight but she didn't really care.
"Yes."
"So you knew Nyseria really well?" she asked, wondering what life was like for Nyseria before everything happened.
"Yes, I knew you very well." he answered. Nys noticed that when Liri spoke she was beginning to hear another voice under his doll-like voice. It was a voice she knew but she couldn't place it.
"I know you. I remember your voice." she said, trying to place where she heard his voice from.
"We'll meet soon enough Nys. For now try to get Moiira to turn her key. Once she does. Nyseria will be free and you can merge with her. She will fight it and want to hold on to her anger and pain but you can win. I know you can."
"What happens when I do win?" she asked.
"Then we work on leaving this false world. After that you can decide what you want to do."
Nys nodded and sighed. She wasn't afraid so much anymore. Still apprehensive but she trusted Liri more than she did the other queens. Something in the back of her mind kept telling her that Liri was safe and would never do anything to hurt her. "I think I'm going to sleep now."
"Goodnight Nys."
"Goodnight Elirius." Nys yawned as she sat the doll down on the sofa and headed to her room. She didn't realize what she said, only that she was weirdly happy.
--
Elirius watched Nys leave. She clearly didn't realize what she said or she would be confused. Nys was picking up more of Nyseria's memories. He wasn't sure if that was good or bad. It would be easier for her if she knew herself better but she could get her memories of the attack back. Nys wouldn't be able to handle that.
He didn't want her to remember that yet. She had to stay Nys until she merged with Nyseria. If she was just as enraged as Nyseria he dreaded what would happen if they merged. He looked to the apartment door to see Nemone coming in.
The blonde haired man was blank faced before he saw him sitting on the sofa. He stopped short after closing the door. Liri sat watching Nemone as he came over. His eyes searched him. He was looking for something and found it.
"...father?" Nemone said softly.
"You've gotten big." Elirius said taking in his adult son. "You grew up too fast."
Nemone chuckled but became serious, "You're not going to destroy them are you. I don't want to fight you."
"I'll let your Mother handle those Queens when she is whole again. For now we need to help Nys become Nyseria. Your mother is… hollow without her. She can't move forward if she stays that way and Nys can't exist in the true Elemencia without her real body. Since this world is made from her light she can exist but the true Elemencia would rip her apart."
"I remember. She almost disappeared when I finally got her from that woman. Still you're not angry? I thought you would…" Nemone trailed off.
"Nemone, I am more than angry. I thought about escaping that prison as soon as I woke up, but I can't leave your mother there. We have to go together. She'll be more inclined to listen to me if I stay by her side. We only have one chance to save her. I can swallow my hate and rage for her and you. Stay by Nys side and don't let Moira sway her. She wants to stay in this false world." Elirius explained.
"I understand, but what about grandmother? She…she's up to something."
"She hasn't changed. She wants to save Elemencia in her own way but Nyseria wouldn't be happy with her way. She's using Vii'ahn as her pawn this time around. Whatever she has promised her has the queen doing whatever she can to get Moira to awaken fully." Elirius said.
"She's been killing mother's subjects." Nemone said.
"That has nothing to do with Savil'aln. She's doing that to provoke Nurue. Those two took her child away and she will do anything to get back at them. Even hurt Nyseria, their child. We need all the queens to open the prison. After that… we'll see if your mother is forgiving."
"If she is?" Nemone asked.
"Then we will respect her choice not to kill them herself. She may not want to kill them but someone has to pay for what was done to us." Elirius said.
"I understand. Please take care of her. I'll take care of Nys."
"Good. It was nice seeing you all grown up, Nemone. We'll speak again later." Elirius said as he disappeared.
"Lei." Nemone called out for his servant. The woman appeared.
"Yes, your highness."
"Watch over Nys and keep her safe. Take Callenii with you." Nemone gave his orders.
Lei nodded and left the apartment. Nemone collapsed on the sofa. The end was near and he would see it through. He would make sure that his mother was returned to her former self and they left the false world. What would happen after that? He didn't know. He hadn't decided which side he would take if his mother did forgive those queens.

Once Nys was back in her room and out of earshot, Nem turned his attention to the doll on the couch, "You may speak freely."
"Thank you, your highness." Liri said bowing deeply to the blonde, "I do not wish to question your actions, but was this the time to reveal your knowledge of her being a queen?"
"It will be fine like this. She will believe what I tell her. She has no reason to question me. For now, let her do what she wishes, but keep her safe. Gather them together. I'm sure that is what she wished for. When the time comes if Nys needs my help I will help her."
"I will continue to do as she commanded." Liri was about to leave when Nem held his hand out. Liri figured out what the man wanted so he hopped on to the offered palm.
"Since you've lost your blessing so foolishly, I will give you mine," Nem said letting the same purple aura wash over the doll before sitting him back on the couch. "Guide her carefully, so that when the time arrives, she will make the right choice."
I know Liri's memories were not all there, but it's strange to see a complete lack of respect from most subjects consdering they all knew who he was. Was it deliberate, or did Liri's part change during the story?
That's... the easy way out. Designate an acceptable target -- we even have one readily available -- and let them have it; then act as if no one else did anything wrong.
Even if killing queens is not an option, that does not mean we have to forgive them. Look to our own kingdom first and our allies second, and let everyone else rot for all we care.
Come to think of it, rereading the earlier updates I find this interpretation for why the false world was unsustainable:
"As one of the seven queens, it is your duty to stop them. If not this world is doomed to be devoured," the doll opened its eyes and stared at her. His red eyes showed no emotion but Nys felt like she was being judged.
"Seven, there are more like me?" Nys didn't know if that was relieving or disconcerting that someone else would have to experience what she had to last night.
"Yes, the six remaining queens must be awakened. You can not win this war alone against the Void," Liri started turning his attention to the comforter he was lying on.
"Does the Void have people inside all of them?" She asked afraid of the answer.
"Yes."
"How did they get inside those things?"
"They were forced into the darkness against their will. It happened a long time ago. The story is not important to your mission," he said pointedly.
[...]
As she prepared for class, she had a nagging thought that would not leave her. One she knew she would not get an answer to any time soon.
Do we have enough information to piece together everything that happened?
Once the balance was disrupted, Shadow Kren corrupted Dark Kren, creating monsters and forcing survivors into the cities directly controlled by Queens. Meanwhile, Illacrimina people turned to Voids, who are expressions of the Void, which is itself is expression or creation of... Savil'aln? The false world allowed protection against the monsters, but not the Void, as Savil'aln somehow existed there, and slowly ate the world from inside out.
...is this broadly correct? Or am I splitting hairs?
Is Savil'aln the answer to the last question?
If the balance of Kren is restored, how does it help the world?
I am not sure what to vote here. Moira is the most directly pressing... but I kinda want to talk to a deity there. And not Alyconeiru; Nyseria already tried that.
[x] Ask the Dawn
It was their priest that went out of control, and they have something going on with Ai and her daughter. I think we might want some answers about that.
"I understand, but what about grandmother [Savil'aln]? She…she's up to something."
"She hasn't changed. She wants to save Elemencia in her own way but Nyseria wouldn't be happy with her way. She's using Vii'ahn as her pawn this time around. Whatever she has promised her has the queen doing whatever she can to get Moira to awaken fully." Elirius said.

Seria you are unlike any other queen because Nurue and I created you together. She purified a small amount of the shadow element to make the dark element. I took what was left of the Star Kings element which was light and we made you out of them."
Nyseria job is to purify the Shadow Kren. Changing it into Dark Kren. Her people are almost all people who where formerly a part of the shadow kren but not exactly the person they were before. Because they are technically not human anymore, more beings of pure dark Kren, all of them are connected to Nyseria. Which is why they are a collective or hive.
The people of Illacrimina became monsters because Moiira took Nyseria's light from her. Her light keeps them all in balance or protects them from the shadow kren. Since it still exists as Nyseria hadn't finish her job. They are all easily corrupted since Illacrimina sits in the center of the Shadow Kren. As long as Nyseria had her light, Voids wouldn't have come into existence.
As for Savil'aln, she had nothing to do with Kren. She destroys it. While the other two "deities" basically keep the planet from falling apart, Savil'aln only wants to annihilated everything. Her plan to save the world is to wipe everything out and start over. She can't kill the queens in the false world. It a dimension she can't access, which is why she is using Vi to force Moiira.
If Nyseria returns to the real Elemencia she can stop the hordes of Voids and Shadow monsters that those left behind are fighting. As for the general issue of Elemencia being a world always on the brink of collapsing that is another story.
Sorry for the confusion. Hopefully that clears it up. Onward to the end.
Yes, this was fairly well established. I'd say "so what if Illacrimina people turned into monsters, they are just an isolated people sitting at the end of the world", but the rest of the world also had been affected by mutations inflicted by Shadow Kren:
"Because I ruined it," Moira spoke. "I broke the balance of the world and cause it to fall apart. Shadow Kren returned and the corrupted dark Kren tainted countless people causing them to change as well, but not into Void. Because of that wars against the creatures the people became took place constantly and soon the only safe havens were in the cities where we queen resided. I couldn't control the light or use it to its full extent but I was able to create this world to fix everything but I lost the light before I finished creating this world."
The questions left unanswered (on this very page) are: how did creating the False World help save people?
My current guess is: it reduced the world to "the safe haven where the queens resided". We have not seen any monsters around that aren't the Voids.
The Voids, however, still exist here (why?) and are the reason the false world is slowly coming apart. Or is it that the Queens are waking up? Both?
The question left unanswered: if the Voids could be killed off (which is what Vi's been doing), why are they said to be "endless"? The number of people of Illacrimina was finite.
Hmm. I can see that she has nothing to do with Kren, but does she have nothing to do with the Void?
My logic for connecting her and the Void was thus: we know Kren is what makes Elemencia by now (although it was not always so), and the Void is not of this world. The existence of the quesion "who created the Void?" implies there is a conscious actor responsible. What is a "void"? It is something left in the absence of other things. Destruction of a thing causes absence. This is why upon learning of a force whose purpose is the destruction of Kren in opposition to the creator deities I immediately nicknamed Savil'aln the Void Goddess.
Was that a mistake?
Who is the "true enemy" of the world we were supposed to fight?
"Then make her accept it. It's the only way you'll be able to fight the true enemy of this world." Liri stopped patting her head and she looked up at the doll.
"It's not just the Voids?" Nys asked.
"No, it's not. There is a reason I am gathering you and the other queens together. You don't have to worry over it right now, but it is something you should keep in mind. Rest for now and we'll figure out the rest later." The doll said sitting down beside the woman.
When you say Savil'aln is using Vi, what do you mean? Is she her conduit, unable to resist her command like Eurytia her deity, or is she just a spiteful accomplice who does it of her own free will? Waking Moira up is supposed to weaken the prison and let Nyseria out; how does this help Savil'aln? We are trying to do the same thing.
My guess is that letting Nyseria out without reuniting her with Nys will lead to the false world and the measly protection it grants shattering without being able to restore Elemencia. How do you go from there to the wholesale destruction of Kren?
The Voids we can purify, probably. The monsters we'll... have to kill, probably? I suppose there won't be any new ones, so that's a plus, but it's going to be a long road to normality if it ever comes to that.
The Void like Lei and Callen exist in the false world because they followed Nem there. They can enter it because they are still Nys' subjects. The other mindlessly ones are constantly coming from the real Elemencia to find the light. The Void aren't really affecting the false world other than devouring it's small population. There are a few sentient Void that stayed in the real Elemencia to help the people left behind fight the shadow Kren monsters or other mindlessly voids.
The false world is coming a part because of Moiira. She it made poorly since she doesn't know how to control light Kren nor is she able to do so correct even if she knew how. She wasn't making the false world to save anyone.
The question left unanswered: if the Voids could be killed off (which is what Vi's been doing), why are they said to be "endless"? The number of people of Illacrimina was finite.
Exaggeration. There is a specific number of Void, but the population of Illacrimina was huge. Nyseria had been purifying the shadow Kren for centuries. The population could be the size of a large country. So Vi would be fighting for a looong time.
That depends on the choices made. Like if Nys becomes Nyseria or doesn't. If Nys is forgiving or not. All I will say is there is three true enemies paths for this quest and two can be done as one.
When you say Savil'aln is using Vi, what do you mean? Does Vi actively work for Savil'aln of her own will? Is she her conduit, unable to resist her command like Eurytia her deity, or is she just a spiteful accomplice who does it of her own free will? Waking Moira up is supposed to weaken the prison and let Nyseria out; how does this help Savil'aln? We are trying to do the same thing.
Vi knows she works for Savil'aln. She is very, very spiteful. Savil'aln wants to help them escape the false world, so at this point she is really on their side. Except she will forcibly make Moiira awaken, which isn't good, but a path that can be taken.
Letting Nyseria out with her reuniting with Nys won't destroy the false world right away, but Nyseria can destroy if she wants to.
Elemencia still exist outside the false world. There is still people there alive and conscious that all the Queens are missing and have been for some time, leaving them to fight an endless battle against shadow monsters that don't have a finite number.
I'll settle for asking once the story is over, because I can not imagine doing nothing at a crucial moment would lead to anything good.
The events are speeding up. I want to talk to a couple more queens before confronting Moira and freeing Nyseria, but I don't know how much we have left before the events are forced.
At best, inaction cedes the initiative to Savil'aln... but given the current state of the world even that may be considered an improvement.

Doing nothing could however could allow someone else to approach us. Or it could allow Nys to get to grips with Seria. It's more of a wildcard than actually doing nothing.
