VII Queens

I'm curious about how the kingdom of darkness apparently has a queen of light.
Could nys have been the result of a political marriage linking two countries?

Olna's core was broken.
He stays in the sea a lot to her watch over me.
The water was poisonous and the creatures that live in those waters were extremely dangerous.
There, they were, taken in and helped.
I think the comma might be misplaced here?

She and Nem were related. They came from the same place.
It's nice that she feels her doubts were assuaged, but I am noticing more and more signs to the contrary.
"Nys, Nemone loves you dearly. He only wants to keep you safe. He felt helpless last time and now he can protect you. Don't distrust him, he really is only trying to keep you safe. I'm sure this time it will be different." Cherrini said.
Not once did she say or imply that we are siblings.
Nemone and you lived there.
"Lived". Not "born"? A small difference, but noticeable.
My mother and his thought it was a good idea for us to be married.
"His", not "yours".
How did a Queen of Light end up in the Kingdom of Darkness?

Wait. How can we be a Queen and have no memory of ruling anything? Illacrimina had its own queen. Could we have been a princess?
And yes a princess can become a queen after her mother's death. But this isn't the case for Nys.
...no, that's not it either. Then what is Nys a Queen of?

"The world differed greatly from this one." Nys said staring at the reflective crystal.

Cherrini nodded. "This world is a pale imitation."
How long has this been going on? This world has a history too, and there is no place for old world in it.

How old are we? How long was it since we experienced the memories of Illacrimina?

"Aria... W-well, I can't say she didn't deserve it, but please forgive him. He lost his temper. I'm sure Olna scolded him for it."
Ah. It looks like Vahnaine had its own alliance. How many kingdoms were on it?

There are two topics I would be happy with.

[x] History
-[x] Just the names of the Kingdoms and their allegiances before the world was shattered.

We are in the middle of the plot and still don't know the names of half of those. How many kingdoms and queens are there?

[ ] Person
-[ ] Nemone's mother - my mother? - and the wish she made.

[ ] Person
-[ ] Sine

...you know, Nem, this is the kind of information we wanted from you.

Could Nys have been the result of a political marriage linking two countries?
Which countries would that be?

To hear Lei tell it, Vahnaine opened with hostilities from the very first meeting:
Unfortunately, Vahnaine took notice of Illacrimina. Sine, the Vahnaine Queen, was a devout follower of a religion devoted to Escha. Her zeal for that god drove her to annihilate those she deemed unworthy.

The meeting of the two queens only led to disaster.

We've got two different votes, but I'm going to go ahead and answer all of them. Next update will probably be a borderline info dump. It should clear up some things

A History Lesson I
"You want to know about the Queens?" Cherrini asked.

Nys nodded as they travel further into the cave. "Everything. I want to know everything about them. Start from the beginning."

"It's a long story."

"I know, but right now, I don't know what to think about anything. If I take the time to learn about where I came from and the world that used to exist, then maybe I can figure out where I stand."

Cherrini nodded. "If you insist. I'll give you a history lesson, but you better be prepared."

Nys nodded, and they slowed their pace a bit.

"Before Queens and Kings, there was the Alkren Empire. Alkren ruled over most of Elemencia for almost a millennium. It is also where the first deity ascended." Cherrini said, looking toward her mother. Mine nodded and held her hand out. In her palm was a droplet of water that expanded and changed until it was a replica of what the world looked like.

It looked nothing like the world Nys knew. It was familiar, but also completely unfamiliar to her.

"Acleon was the name of the royal city. It was known as the center of Elemencia. The Emperor Alycone Ienis was the 77th ruler. His rule only lasted ten years." The water changed until it showed a beautiful city with a palace in the center. The city was astounding even without the proper colors.

"That's a short time." Nys said, wanting to touch the display.

"Alycone's rule ended abruptly because of the ascension. Though the history of Alkren is murky in some areas, yet what is known is that the appearance of a young woman name Nurue forever changed the course of history. This is because her affinity for manipulating Kren was given to everyone in Elemencia. At first only certain royal family members could control Kren, but after her appearance it was spread to everyone."

"So she's the reason we can use our powers?" Nys asked.

"Yes and no. Nurue is the reason everyone has an affinity for manipulating Kren. Alyconeiru is the reason Queen's have power."

"Alyconeiru?"

"It is the deity that the Emperor Alycone and Empress Nurue became after the ascension. Alyconeiru is the Perfector of Kren, also known as the Deity of Dusk." Cherrini said as Mine created a replica of a crest Nys had never seen.

"Unfortunately, history is unclear on how or why they ascended together. All that is known is that once it happened, Acleon was annihilated and everyone died except Prince Valenth, Alycone's brother. He was found in the ruins."

Nys turned her attention to Cherrini, "What? Why would they kill everyone?"

"Although their rule together over Alkren was the most peaceful, their ascension ended the first half of the Alkren Era. Nothing was left of the royal city. Alycone's brother Valenth eventually took over what was left and the second half of the Alkren Era began. Fortunately, that history is well documented. King Valenth Ienis of Qivahana."

"The king didn't know what happened to his brother and sister-in-law either?"

"If he did, he told no one nor had it been recorded. He never spoke of his miraculous survival either." The water gave a three dimensional bust of Valenth. He was familiar to Nys, but she couldn't place where she had seen him.

"He's kind of cute." She said absently.

Cherrini burst out into laughter. "Well, the 78th Emperor was quite the eye candy. It was well known and was entered into our history books like a cold hard fact."

"There are no records of the 77th and his Empress?" Nys asked, wondering what they looked like.

"No, it has been completely erased from history and the memories of those that knew as well. The power of Alyconeiru at work."

"Okay, so if Alyconeiru gave Queens their power, then why not stop what happened with our world?"

"I don't know, but the creation of the Queens was the work of two deities. Alyconeiru and Eschalia."

"Eschalia is the Conductor of Kren and also known as the Deity of Dawn. Two halves of the same coin." The crest that appeared caused Nys to grab her chest in pain.

"Nys?" Mine grabbed the girl to steady her.

"I'm sorry. I had a weird feeling. Fear...or terror." She mumbled to herself.

"We should move on." Mine said, letting Nys go as she got her balance.

"No, tell me about Eschalia."

Cherrini looked at her mother and seemed to wait to see if Nem would stop her. He said nothing, so she continued. "Eschalia ascended during the era of the Three Kings. Again, a strange event that hasn't been well documented. Escha was a descendant of Alkren. His relatives and background are unknown, but he was known as the Bestower of the Circlet."

"Circlets were a power given to certain people to control Kren. Though everyone had the innate ability because of Nurue, it was still impossible to actually bend Kren to one's will. Circlets were created by Alyconeiru to do that and Escha was the one to give them to worthy ones. Kren was out of control during that time. This was because of experiments and the constant misuse of Kren, causing it to become volatile. It was the duty of the Circlet holders to control the Kren and keep it from tearing apart Elemencia."

"Let me guess, something terrible happened?" Nys asked.

"Yes. The experiments of Klaire Phanelle cause the creation of Kren Miasma. His experiment also tore open the Aetas Gate. That is how Dahlia arrived. She was the second half of Eschalia and a person from the future."

"What? This is getting weirder than some scifi novels I've read." Nys said. She already had a hard time getting over the fact that she was a queen. Now time travel was a part of history. It historically happened.

"Elemencia history is exciting and terrifying all at once. However, it is thanks to this time traveler that Elemencia was saved for a second time and the Queen Era began. Once Eschalia ascended, both deities created the Queen system." Mine showed Nys the world again. This time, there were more continents.

"Finally, I can tell you about the Queens." Cherrini said.

Nys nodded and prepared herself for the story to come.

"The Three Kings were all holders of Circlets and for many years they could keep the Kren under control. Unfortunately, the Miasma spread and tainted much of the first Celestria. It shortened the lives of the inhabitants and eventually caused Akre, a Kren sickness that killed many people. Kren Miasma eventually mutated into the shadow element. It was the second element to be born."

"Shadow element, it sounds familiar." Nys said, wondering where she remembered it from.

"Anima was the first, along with it Eone was born. She was born far before the Three Kings, but back then she wasn't a queen. She was simply a new existence created by Alyconeiru."

"So Eone wasn't always a queen and became one later." Nys said.

"Yes." Cherrini said before continuing. "During the Three Kings time, the Star King tried to contain the shadow element, but failed because of his Queen, Hanu'el. Again it becomes murky with the details but the Star King Nire lost control and merged with the shadow element becoming the Shadow King. That is when everything was once more almost destroyed. Celestria sunk into the ocean and the area became known as the Black Sea. The Shadow King terrorized all of Elemencia for decades before he was killed by the other remaining Circlet holders."

"Their deities couldn't save him." Nys felt a little angry that the most they could do was kill him. Though she killed the Voids in the beginning. She felt like they should have done more.

Cherrini shook her head. "After the death of the Shadow King, Eone became the first queen. She established the second Celestria. It was known as the Jubilant Kingdom of Celestria. Her rule helped in the recovery of many places. Centuries later, my mother Cherrimine was born. She was the first Queen born to Elemencia and the second queen. She ruled over the Luxurious Kingdom of Aquinnia. It was the largest kingdom in Elemencia. As many of the inhabitants of Aquinnia were first under the rule of the Snow King, Wyne and his wife Cherrimin during the Era of the Three Kings. Cherrimin is my mother's grandmother."

"Many centuries after my mother's birth came the third queen, Moiira."

"Moira?" Nys said.

"No, Moiira." Cherrini enunciated the name. "Moiira is the queen of the Lightbringer Kingdom Vahnaine."

"But I thought her name was Sine." Nys said, confused.

"Moiira Sine Eithne. The third queen and conductor of the Fire Element. She was a charismatic queen that rebuilt Vahnaine and inherited the Phoenix King Elocius' bow Xia. The only queen to inherit a weapon from a former King. The three of us did so much to fix Elemencia after the abuse of its power." Mine explained, showing Nys a reel of the Three queens and their feats.

"Moiira..." Nys found her breathing a little odd. Hearing the name didn't bring memories. It brought emotions that clawed their way out, but under that she was fearful of something else. What if Moira was a queen? What if she was that queen?

"The fourth queen and the sixth queen were born at the same time. Eurytia, the fourth queen, is the Queen of the Glittering Kingdom of Argenia. She is in control of the Silver Element. She supports the elemental family of Alyconeiru. Vi is the sixth queen. She is the Queen of the Radiant Kingdom of Hymnnia. She controls the Golden Element and supports the elemental family of Eschalia. She is known to you by the name Ai. Those two elements are mysterious even now as neither queen has ever explained their power. They seem to be the servants of their respective deity. Not much is known about them other than that. They didn't really associate with the other queens."

"Servants of the Deities." Nys said, wondering what that entailed.

"The seventh queen is Aria. She was born last and was the queen of the Forever Spring Kingdom Ventuia. She controls the Wind Element. Her kingdom was the smallest, and she was the most immature, though she was born to the same parents as Eurytia. Aria is known by Hyacinth in this world."

"They're sisters?" Nys asked and realized that they shared the same strange eye color.

"Yes. They are." Cherrini said, walking a little slower. Nys slowed down.

"What about the fifth queen? Me." Nys asked.

"You know who you are. You're the fifth queen. You control the element of light. Your home was Illacrimina."

"Then what about my mother? Who was she and where did she come from? What was her wish for me? And what about how everything got ruined?" Nys asked.

"Cherrini." Nem called from ahead. "We're at the exit."

"Nys, your mother is a wonderful person. She gave us you, the one person who can help bring back the Elemencia we belong to, which is her wish. As for the rest, we'll have to wait until another time. " Mine said and Nys sighed but agreed. Cherrini nodded, but her expression was oddly forlorn.

"We have to hurry." Mine said sprinting to catch up. Both women followed behind her. Nys had a lot of questions, but she had to save them for—

Nys threw her hands out suddenly and Liri just suddenly popped into existence. She caught him knowing exactly where he'd show up.

"Liri?"

The doll looked up at her, "I told you to stay out of trouble."

"Stay out of trouble? Where the hell have you been!?"

Before she could receive an answer, the silence crowded out her thoughts, but it shouldn't have been possible. Nys flinched as the pain returned. Liri grabbed his head and was in pain as well.

"What is that!" he said, almost shaking in pain.

"A new Void. It's a long story but it shouldn't be able to enter this place or that's what they said." Nys shook off the pain and kept moving. She couldn't hesitate. They reached Nem and Callen. Both of them looked like this were in pain but doing a better job of standing it than Liri. The doll was almost incapacitated.

"It's waiting for us to leave." Callen said, motioning at the exit.

The Void sat patiently, waiting. The surrounding color faded away from the environment.

"Wh-what is that thing? It doesn't belong...N-nemone, what is that?" Liri could barely speak. Nem turned and looked at Liri with an odd expression that Nys couldn't read.

Her brother came over and picked the doll up. His violet eyes inspecting him. "An abomination. Deal with the pain for now. We have to destroy it if we want to leave." Nem said, patting the doll's head a few times gently. Nys could see a soft purple glow from his hand. After a few more pats, Liri was alright again.

"My prince, thank you." Liri said jumping on to Nys' shoulder. Nem nodded and looked toward the monster at the exit.

"Nys, will you be able to destroy it all at once?" Nem asked. "You should feel stronger since you've traveled the Depths of Silence."

Nys thought about it. She felt different. She didn't even realize it until Nem said something.

"What happened?"

"The Depths of Silence are a trial from the past. Queens would take the trial when they were of a certain age. It enhances their power and gives them quite a boost. The only thing is you can only take it once. You got to pass so easily because you talked through the whole trial. Congratulations on somehow cheating." Callen explained quickly.

"Callen." Liri said warningly. "Don't tease her."

Callen smiled and turned his attention to the Void behind the barrier. "Yes sir."

"Do you have confidence, Nys?" Liri asked.

"Yeah. I think I can take it out." Nys said, flexing her fingers.

"Then let us proceed." Nem said, calling his weapon. Callen did the same and Nys was surprised that he had one. No other voids fought with a weapon. At least none she knew.

"Surprised right?" Callen said, showing off the black and red sword. "It'll be fun to finally show off."

"Nys be careful," Cherrini said, standing back.

If "Three Queens" is a name similar to "Three Kings", both words should be capitalized. Otherwise none should be capitalised.

Nem said, patting the doll's head a few times gently.
An unnecessary line break?

Okay, let's try to sort things out again.
The Illustrious Kingdom of Darkness, Illacrimina - Crimina? (Darkness/Black Queen) / No one (Imprisoned and not reincarnated). Subjects: Nemone (Prince), Elirius (Knight), Lei (Royal Maid), Quinn (High Maid), Ailan/Void_BEG, Eleni/Void_Envy, Callen/Void_???
Nope!
There never was a Queen of Darkness!
  1. The Jubilant Kingdom of Celestria - Anima (Life?/Elemencia) / Eone / Cara
    * Subjects: Ren (Knight)
  2. The Luxurious Kingdom of Aquinnia - Gelu (Water/Elemencia) / Cherrimine / Mine Tau
    * Subjects: Cherrini (Princess), Olna (Head Knight), Crim Dolsa (Royal Consort)
  3. The Lightbringer Kingdom of Vahnaine - Ignis (Fire/Elemencia?) / Sine / Moira Adryelynn?
  4. The Glittering Kingdom of Argenia - Argenti (Silver/Alyconeiru) / Eurytia / No "false" identity (sister to 7th)
  5. The Illustrious Kingdom of Darkness, Illacrimina - Lux (Light/Elemencia) / ??? / Nys Lumillia
    * Subjects: Nemone (Prince), Elirius (Knight), Lei (Royal Maid), Quinn (High Maid), Ailan/Void_BEG, Eleni/Void_Envy, Callen/Void_???
  6. The Radiant Kingdom of Hymnnia - Chryseum (Gold/Eschalia) / Vi / Ai Ashbridge
  7. The Forever Spring Kingdom Ventuia - Ventus (Wind/Elemencia) / Aria / Hyacinth Ashbridge (sister to 4th)
Okay! First of all, we get to eliminate the introductory character. She was a Queen of Darkness, who was Nem's mother and whom Liri served for years, but there is just no place for her on the chart! The Queen of Illacrimina is, was, and always will be Nys. However that works!

Edit: I take it the Kingdom of Illacrimina could have been destroyed which may have resulted in a permanent change of leadership. Nys could have succeeded Crimina (?) that way. There was the mention that her palace felt wrong for her, as if it weren't her own.
Is it possible to replace queens? Can a queen of Darkness mother a queen of Light? It leaves more questions than it answers.
What about the Shadow element? What happened to it?

Next!
Anima was the first, along with it Eone was born.
[...]
After the death of the Shadow King, Eone became the first queen.
It took me inordinate amount of time to realize that the titles of the queens correspond to their elements. I mean, I did know that on some level, but Argenti and Anima were outliers that made it difficult to categorize them.

Funnily enough, Anima in Latin also stands for "wind", or at least "a breeze". I thought she'd be aligned with Nature, but it appears her element is Life itself? Nature is certainly within the purview of Life magic, but it doesn't fit that well with the Fire/Water/Wind themes of other queens. And then of course there is a divine elemental family which are entirely different from the rest.

...so what is Nys' name?

It looks like Sine aligned herself with Aria and possibly Vi in the war that shatterred Illacrimina. But for what reason, and why her servants seem to continue waging this war independently from her?

Edit:
You probably will notice the issue with Sine name. Everyone called her Sine rather than her element. I can't explain that yet since it spoils some things.
So I read Cherrini's summary, and I don't see anything spoilery in there. She says Sine is supposed to have a Fire affinity. We have never encountered a Fire queen before Moira fired her bow, and by that time there wasn't much left to spoil.
However, there is the fact that Nys hears nothing looking at Moira. How could that be if she is from the same elemental family as the rest of them?
Is Sine secretly a divine agent?

Almost all of that right. Ignis is Moiira's name. Chryseum would be Ai's. Eurytia told Nys this in Complications.

Nys didn't hear a hymn with Moira but heard one with someone she shouldn't.

The Shadow King was the predecessor of Illacrimina. The shadow element still exist but it's the dark element now.

It is possible for a queen to have a child with a different element. That happens only when her spouse is of a different element. Cherrini for example has no elemental affinity because of her father not having an element. Which is why she can't help in battles.

Chryseum would be Ai's.
Right. WallFlower even pointed it out to me, but I was still entertaining "Ai is Fire" theory at that time, since I didn't know Moira was an option and there was a glaring hole in place of a Fire Queen.
Nys didn't hear a hymn with Moira but heard one with someone she shouldn't.
Some-one, or some-thing?
Nys felt odd being in the garden. Anxiety was building in her chest as she was led closer to the pristine white cage. Inside the cage was a sword that was a replica of her sword. Except the sword was black and red instead of gold and blue. Above the sword, a black orb with hints of green hovered.

"Why is that here?" Nys moved forward without Cara's urging. She escaped the woman's grasp and walked to the birdcage. She touched the bars gingerly and a hymn started to rise in her mind. The lyrics fell on deaf ears as she slipped her hand through the bars and reached for the sword that was well out of her reach.
I still have no idea about what that sword was doing there, or what the black orb was.

I mean, there is only one queen missing, and it's Mom.

The orb was Ren's core.
Edit: It was someone not thing

That was very a illuminating look on the past.0

*Nys can now contact Eurytia or Cara when she needs to. Just add it to any choice you pick. You can ask a question or ask one to join the party. **Sometimes they both might come join the party.

Can we call Cara? I think that Terra drive could be very useful in this case.

I think that calling both Eurytia and Cara might be a good idea if we are going to take Cherrini.
Eurytia's Steel Resolve can protect her.

It may also be worth it to see if Vocivuses count as 'Noble Voids' for prayer.

Now that Liri has joined the party we can also teleport poeple out. (or does locked mean unusable?)

____
Huh, that I didn't notice that before.
Illacrimina

Liri can teleport out others without issue since he has Nem's blessings. I need to update Liri's character notes.

Vocivus would not count as noble voids since their considered abomination and are not pure anymore.

Crimina is a placeholder name. It is not a real name, which is why it looks like this "Crimina".

Right. Time to vote then?

Except I don't know what we are asked to vote for.
ATK: 2550 (295) -Fifth Affliction (+55)
What do the numbers mean, again?
"Nys, will you be able to destroy it all at once?" Nem asked. "You should feel stronger since you've traveled the Depths of Silence."
Is there any other kind of destruction?
Or does he mean "in one blow"? Then the answer is "no", because that's a big chunk of HP the enemy is packing.

[x] Choose your party setup.
-[x] Nys, Mine, Nem, Callen, Liri.
-[x] Nys and Nem pair up for stronger attacks, Mine runs protective buffs and interception of enemy attacks.
-[x] Callen does whatever; he is the one who wants to show-off. Surprise us!
-[x] Liri stays on the sidelines in case we need his healing, though hopefully it doesn't come to thet. Don't let yourself get caught!
-[x] Cherrini stays where the Void can't reach her.

What is the point of choosing a party when we only have five members? They are all going to fight.
Liri should stay on the sidelines; I have no idea if he has any useful moves, and the Voids ignore him. He can heal Nys, too.
Callen is new to this. He should have some powerful attacks, if we can judge by our one interaction with him. Let's hope he puts them to better use.
Mine just recently showed she can do protective spells. Let's keep it that way. If her waters can serve as a barrier for enemy attacks, all the better, because we can't afford them connecting.
Nys is the primary heavy-hitter, and she feels like she can take the Void down this time. Let her prove it.
And of course, Nem is still the most experienced fighter. Let him be the strategist behind the attack.

[x] Call Cara and Eurytia. It is getting hot in here.

Drellius can always conjure up more Voids, and Cherrini needs protection. We may need to split our parties if we wanted to take the battle to him, because we can't take Cherrini with us.

Besides, we need to start mending the rift between Cara and Hyacinth somehow. If it doesn't work, we can put them on different teams, but I'd like to put our youngest queen on the same team with Eurytia and see if it helps jog her memory.

...it may have been locked for a good reason though.

@Nevill This is exactly what I was asking. Just how everyone should be setup and how they should proceed with the battle.

You can kind of ignore power level stuff, it made things complicated so I just left it behind. It's really there now only to give you an idea of who's stronger and who shouldn't be up front leading the fight.

Nys technically shouldn't be able to one shot anything normally but she had the advantage over Vocivus since her light element can destroy it's body no matter how small. She only needs to have a large enough AOE to take it out which she has gained.

Liri is only ignored by regular Voids since they don't generally attack their own. Vocivus are under the control of Drellius and have no higher intelligence outside of that control.

Meanwhile: The Voice in the Dark I
"Eone, take her down," Eurytia said, supporting the woman in front of her. Ren stayed closed to her, ready to attack if he needed to.

The green-haired woman moved quickly toward the woman with purpose. Her movement swift and elegant as she dodged the spinning scythe. Her fist were clenched and gauntlets ready for use.

The golden eyed woman misjudged her and Eone landed a fierce hit. She was staggered and dropped her scythe, retching. A void moved away quickly from them, finding its way to the sewers.

"Are you going to play nice now, Vi," Eone asked with a bit of mockery in her voice. Vi looked up and sneered at Eone before speaking.

"Are you really going to kill a queen, Cara? Will that fix the world?" Vi said, looking at the woman with hatred burning.

"Then stop killing the voids. They are her subjects. If you continue, how will she even be able to stand your presence? Haven't we done enough for her?" Eurytia asked.

"Should we let them run wild, devouring innocent people because they belong to her? They were monsters from the beginning. This new form is fitting for those things." Vi chuckled.

Ren looked away, not willing to think about her words.

"She's right they can't roam free, but murdering them only causes more problems." Eone said.

"You all are clambering to make things right, but will she accept your efforts?" Vi asked. Her eyes were on Eurytia, but the woman said nothing and her face remained blank.

"Whatever the consequences, we need not make things worse." Eurytia finally spoke, not answering the woman's question.

"You shouldn't have fought against the will of Escha." The Golden Queen said.

"He has nothing to do with this. Sine is the one who caused all of this. You know well she had no blessing for her actions."

Vi didn't speak, she only turned her back to them.

"Nys needs our help. We should hurry." Eone said, suddenly changing the subject. She received a call for help.

Eurytia looked to Vi and the golden-haired woman folded her arms. "She's not looking for my help."

Eurytia didn't respond, but turned her attention to Eone. "We should go then."

The woman tapped her staff on the ground and opened a portal.

Vi picked up her scythe and sighed. "We'll finish this later."

"Stay away from the Voids." Eurytia warned her, stepping through.

"Ren, try to control the ones that might start trouble." Eone said.

The knight nodded and Eone followed the other queen through the portal, leaving Vi and Ren alone. The two glanced at each other before going their separate ways.

-------
"Yomi, try to be careful." Lei said to the Void carrying the mirror. The woman was riding atop a huge void that bore a strong resemblance to
a wolf.

"...ccc-ca-ca-care...ful," it moved slower now. The large void moved like liquid across the broken ground of the ruins.

"Yes, careful. You're doing great now." Lei encouraged the former knight.

Lei looked around at the ruins of her home. Even rewriting everything couldn't erase the ruins of Illacrimina.

"She could not rid the world of us completely." The wolf void spoke.

"No, that queen overestimated her power." Lei said, looking around. She saw the ruin, but her mind overlaid the city with how it was rather than the place it was now.

"Wh-whis...persss," Yomi moaned.

Lei looked in a mirror. The black glass was consuming the surrounding color.

"She's excited. Our queen will be with us soon." Another void said ecstatically. It walked behind them and appeared to be a young man.

"If that is the case, Lei. Will Elirius regain his full memories soon? " The wolf said.

"What good will it be if he remembers." Lei said sadly, "Our queen sealed off those memories for a reason. If he awakens, then his rage will very well ruin everything. How could anyone push forward and work with the very ones that destroyed your family? Elirius cannot awaken until they all wake up. Though those memories seem to surface on their own. We must hurry before he regains it all."

"What will we do if he does? Should we protect the queens?" Wolf asked.

"No, our prince will have to hold him back." Lei sighed, "But the prince may not wish to."

"Prince Nemone won't let anyone prevent the world from returning to normal," the happy void said, walking behind them.

"Let us hope that is true." Lei said, looking at the palace as they got closer. "You're almost home, my Queen."

"Are you going to play nice now, Vi," Eone asked with a bit of mockery in her voice. She looked up and sneered at Eone before speaking.
There should be a question mark at the end of the speech.
The last person mentioned is Eone, and thus "she" erroneously references her instead of Vi. "The woman" could work, or any other descriptor, really.
"Then stop killing the void. They are her subjects. If you continue, how will she even be able to stand your presence? Have we not done enough for her?" Eurytia asked.
"voids".
Eurytia is talking about Crimina, right? If she is trying to say that Vi wronged her enough already, and considers herself accountable as well, then it probably should have been "have we not done enough to her?"
The woman was riding atop a huge void that bared the resemblance of a wolf.
"bore a resemblance to a wolf"
She saw the ruin, but her mind overlay the city with how it was rather than the place it was now.
"overlaid"
How could anyone push forward and work with the very ones that destroy your family?
"destroyed"

"He has nothing to do with this. Sine is the one who caused all of this. You know well she had no blessing for her actions."
Huh. For some reason I thought the deity to be feminine. I am not sure why, perhaps because of the duality between Escha/Dahlia, or Eschalia/Alyconeiru.
...wait a second. When they say "Escha", are they referencing a part of Eschalia, or the deity in their entirety? Because accoirding to Cherrini, Escha is the name of a pre-ascended mortal.
"What good will it be if he remembers." Lei said sadly, "Our queen sealed off those memories for a reason. If he awakens, then his rage will very well ruin everything. How could anyone push forward and work with the very ones that destroy your family? Elirius cannot awaken until they all wake up. Though those memories seem to surface on their own. We must hurry before he regains it all."
Wait a second. If Liri doesn't remember, then why did he lock Hyacinth's memories? I thought this was done specifically to avoid complications of having a "hostile" queen work with Team Illacrimina. What point is there if he isn't aware of Aria's loyalties?

...is it a coincidence that only the queens awoken by Liri don't have their memories?
"He has nothing to do with this. Sine is the one who caused all of this. You know well she had no blessing for her actions."
Great. Now whose will did Sine carry out, then?
Unfortunately, Vahnaine took notice of Illacrimina. Sine, the Vahnaine Queen, was a devout follower of a religion devoted to Escha. Her zeal for that god drove her to annihilate those she deemed unworthy.
If your god can't make his will clear himself, you still have two other queens capable of translating your god's will into words.
Yet apparently historians believe that the religion was the reason behind how the war turned out. How come?

They call their deities by the name of whichever one is in control or by their full name. More on how they know who is in control later.

Liri has almost all his memories but they have been tampered with and some have been locked away. He isn't aware of everything and is being manipulated kind of like Nys.

your god can't make his will clear himself, you still have two other queens capable of translating your god's will into words.

Sine might not care what her god wants and just using him as an excuse to attack.

"Should we let them run wild, devouring innocent people because they belong to her? They were monsters from the beginning. This new form is fitting for those things." Vi chuckled.

The world is seen as being fake but the people in it are being considered real enough that they are 'innocent people'. I find this an interesting point for when the world returns to 'normal'. This might mean that there needs to come a reintegration effort in the future, after the queens re-seized their power.

The world is seen as being fake but the people in it are being considered real enough that they are 'innocent people'.
I think they are the same people? Not some virtual constructs from the Matrix, but actual people from the world before, or their descendants, who forgot how things were. That's why Drellius hunts down those few who remember.

I am not sure what determines who gets to keep their memories and who doesn't, but only powerful individuals close to their queens seem to have retained theirs. Either the proximity to their rulers shielded them, or they had more Kren than others and could resist whatever effect keep the memories suppressed.

Knights of Vahnaine
Nys hurried behind her brother as they exited the cave. The rest of their companions followed. Cherrini stayed close to the back of their group.

Nys' goal was to destroy the Vocivus in one strike. She was positive she could do it now. Nys wasn't sure how she knew, but it was like a door opened to her and she could see all the things she was capable of doing. She had this new power and she would do her best to protect Nem. She ran ahead of Nem and he followed closely behind her. Callen was with Nem, and Liri was on her shoulder as she sprinted forward toward the monster.

The Vocivus differed from the other, as it was much larger and had a more animal-like form. On all four it waited for them. It made no move to attack yet. It was awaiting orders.

Nys wasted no time. With her broadsword in hand she launched herself into the sky above the void. Nem and Callen both attacked with quick successive blows. Making sure the void attention would be on them rather than her.

The Vocivus took the hits without a reaction and tried to attack Nem. Nys was still in the air, as everything was happening at once. She hurled her blade at the Void. The broadsword lit up a blinding white as it hit the Void. The Fifth Affliction was embedded into its back and Nys landed on the hilt. The movement was effortless for her and she didn't realize how different she felt or moved.

"Nys, what do you intend to do?" Liri asked, holding on to her.

"You'll see." she said, raising her hand above her head.

Liri watched, almost amazed at seeing the ground light up in a circle around the Vocivus. Nys focused on widening the circle, but leaving Nem and Callen outside of it.

Mine took her cue from Nem and called her weapon to her. A stylized 'C' appeared on an ancient crest in front of her. She reached inside, pulling a silver spear with sapphire accents from inside the crest. The blue-haired woman took the spear and threw it so it would land in front of Nem and Callen, creating a water barrier around all of them except the void.

Nys took Liri from her shoulder and tossed him into the barrier. He was surprised, but didn't have a chance to say anything. He went through the barrier of water with no trouble as Mine recognized him as her ally.

Now alone with Liri safely behind the barrier, Nys continued to summon the annihilating light in her sacred palace. Reaching for the astounding power was frightening to Nys. She worried she couldn't control it and would hurt her friends, but if she backed down the Vocivus would no doubt hurt her companions.

Have no mercy on it. Our people are no longer in it.

Nys nodded to the familiar voice and the light from the ground consumed the Vocivus and her. In the burning light, she could see the void slowly disintegrate. Nys thought it was too easy as the light died down, leaving her standing in the Vocivus' place.

Unfortunately, her assumption was right as more Vocivus appeared from the ground like they had been called. Mine lowered her barrier and erected one around Cherrini. The girl sat in the bubble of water calmly.

"It seems it's not over yet." Callen said, smiling. His smile was a little unnatural and too wide, but Nys was more surprised at the flames lighting his blade up. The crimson blade of the sword was on fire and the black hilt was giving off wisps of Dark Kren.

She definitely had to ask him about that later, but for now she turned her attention to the five smaller Vocivus that had appeared. She had to focus if she wanted to take everyone of them out without letting anyone get hurt.

-------

Eone was surprised when she and Eurytia arrived at the battle. She didn't think Nys would grow so much in a short time. She wasn't this proficient when she left for her trip. It had only been a couple of days and she made so much progress that Eone could see the elegance of the former queen.

The young woman moved with grace and accuracy that was outstanding. Nemone was behind her, giving her any support she needed as her blindingly white Fifth Affliction cut through the weird looking Void and disintegrated them.

"Don't allow them to touch you!" Mine said, rushing past them.

"I see." Eurytia said, lifting her staff and summoning Kren to the area. The glowing golden lights fell like snow to the ground, but soon it clumped together into larger golden orbs that slowly took on the appearance of long sharp spikes that gained speed as they fell to the ground. Eurytia aimed the golden spikes toward the Vocivus. She was able to slow their progression.

Eone noticed that the amount of them was beginning to get absurd. She didn't know the details of everything, but so many Voids in one place was rare and not so many that looked so strange.

"Alright, you're on support. I'll give them a hand." Eone said, reaching down and touching the ground. "Terra Drive."

Pale green lights travel across the ground to each combatant on her side. Mine thanked her, and Callen chuckled at the boost.

"Nemone, please lend me your help." Eurytia said, and the blond reached his hand out to her. The golden lights tripled as he spoke in an ancient language. Eurytia closed her eyes in prayer.

Eone glanced back at her friend. She knew they were in dire straits if Eurytia was calling on the Escha. "It's weird to hear that prayer come from you rather than Vi."

Eurytia said nothing since she was busy, so Eone went to help Mine.

------

The battle continued with more Vocivus appearing every time they defeated some. Nys was getting tired. They couldn't continue like this, and she needed a permanent solution. If she destroyed everything in their vicinity, would that stop whoever kept calling them at least for a little while if not, it would give them a few minutes to regroup. The Vocivus kept coming, but when enough was taken out, the time of the next batch's arrival slowed.

Yes it will stop him.

The voice answered her again. Nys was really wondering if any of the other queens had a voice in their mind that wasn't their own. It should have freaked her out, but at a time like this it was nice to have company to keep her alert. She was the only one that could destroy the Vocivus and everyone was working to herd them into groups that she could easily destroy.

You're going to be drained before you can take them all out.

'Then what should I do?'

If you continue on like this, Nemone will get hurt or one of our other subjects. You should take action soon.

'I'm sorry, what am I doing now!?' Nys said, almost yelling in her own mind.

Playing.

'Playing? I am not playing! I thought you would be helpful. You're just a useless voice.' Nys said, destroying another Vocivus that was too close to Callen.

Take out all of them at once. Raze the area if you must.

'What about everyone else?' Nys moved quickly around to the other side of the battlefield destroying a group of Vocivus that Mine trapped.

They will be fine. They can't be killed by your light. At most, it will hurt.

'What about Liri, Nemone and Callen? They're of the Dark element, right? If I use my light, I could hurt them.'

I'll protect them. It's not that far of a reach for me… It's good that you are remembering the little things.

Nys was confused by the voice, but she didn't have time to think about it, so she agreed. 'Fine, help me and I'll go all out.'

Good, I'll help you.

Nys stopped short and dropped her broadsword. She reached for her sacred palace as she heard Callen yelling at her to protect herself. Liri was also saying something, but she couldn't make it out. The voice said it would protect their subjects. Nys had to trust the voice or none of them would make it out alive.

------

Nys opened her eyes slowly. She felt disoriented as she pushed herself up. She looked around. The exit of the cave had led to a huge area blocked off by rocky structures, but now they were gone and all that was left was a view of the ocean. She remembered starting the fight, but then everything went blank. Her memory was gone. Everything after she stepped outside of that cave was missing.

She was quick getting onto her feet and a bout of dizziness slowed her, but she was more concerned about her family, so she pushed through. Stumbling across the sand, she looked for Nem.

He was unconscious, katana still gripped tightly in his hand. His blond hair was a beacon in the waning sunlight. How long had she been unconscious? Wasn't it around noon just a few minutes ago?

"Nem." She called him as she shook him, but he didn't wake up. She checked to see if he was breathing. He was, but like everyone around her, he was out.

Nys stood up, eyes drawn to the raging fire ahead of her. An older man stood in front of it, talking with Callen. The man was dressed like a knight in dark crimson and white. His grey hair was cropped short in a standard male style. He was familiar.

Callen was barely on his feet and looked like he had been fighting a losing battle. The inky substance that was usually on his skin had been burned away in some areas, leaving his actual skin visible. His blade was in his hand as he spoke to the familiar older man.

Nys moved slowly toward them. She felt dizzy and moved with great care. She couldn't hear the first part of the conversation, but as she got closer, their voices became clear.

"—thought you had been freed. If we had known you'd suffer like this—"

"Drellius, neither of you cared about what I wanted. If you had known? If you had known, would anything really change?" Callen asked. Nys thought he was being uncharacteristically serious. How did she know that? Were her memories really returning? "You told her I was just a monster wearing her brother's face. You knew, didn't you? You knew the whole time who I was and you still… you still..."

The gray-haired man's face fell. All emotions gone, like a mask of emotion was removed. "The priest told us you were dead. He said you were a puppet. Everything that you were was gone. I knew it was not entirely true the moment I met you again."

"And you kept the lie going? You never bent your knees at the altar. You're telling me you would serve that damn priest over me. I was your prince!" Callen lifted his sword to point at Drellius.

"The queen was broken. You had died at the hands of our enemy. Only to brought back by those—"

"She never believed the priest for as long as I can remember. She was always against the worship of Eschalia. She can't have suddenly become a devout follower just because of me. She can't have done those things to hurt and ruin Nyseria over me!" Callen yelled at the knight. A stronger fire had ignited on the blade and Nys could hear voices screaming and crying in agony, but her thoughts stopped on the name she heard.

"Nyseria?" Nys whispered the name to herself. That name was familiar. More than familiar to her. She knew that name like she knew her own name. Was this her chance to finally know the truth? She hesitated, unsure if she should interrupt or let them finish. Callen was in pain and the voices were only getting louder. They were in sync, but at this moment Nys didn't think that was a good thing. He was still losing control.

[X] Interrupt and try to calm Callen down.

Callen is our subject. No matter how interesting the conversation is I would rather have him not become a void.

Have no mercy on it. Our people are no longer in it.
Crimina's voice was always italicized so far, and this should be no exception.
Eone noticed that the amount of them was beginning to be absurd.
"get"?
"Drellius, neither of you cared about what I wanted. If you had known? If you had known, would anything really change?" Callen asked. Nys thought he was being uncharacteristically serious. How did she know that? Were her memories really returning?

"You told her I was just a monster wearing her brother's face. You knew, didn't you? You knew the whole time who I was and you still… you still..."
Usually a new paragraph means that the new line belongs to the next person in a conversation. This line break confused me a little, as I asstibuted the second line to Drellius.
Only to brought back by those — ,"
The comma at the end is unnecessary, as interuptions are denoted by em-dash only. I usually stay away from punctuation, but this one made me think it was not interrupted speech for a second.

Alright, this confirms that the voice in our head belongs to Crimina. Not that there was too much doubt after getting Crimina's Pendant, but still.
...why doesn't she reveal herself to us? She never calls us her children, even though she clearly places Nem before her subjects.

Callen is our subject. No matter how interesting the conversation is I would rather have him not become a void.
Technically, he is Sine's subject.

According to Callen, Sine turned to the Dark Deific Side after his alleged death. And... something else must have happened there. How was he brought back? I thought the Voids only entered the world after the fall of Illacrimina.

And yes, the mention of Nyseria is strange. He said "ruin", making it sound like a place. Hasn't our home been Illacrimina? He could have meant it as a person's name, but then it'd have to refer to us. How were we "ruined"?

[x] Interrupt and try to calm Callen down.

We are taking over. It's a shame our party is out of it, or I'd like to be rid of Drellius before he sics his next human experiments on us. While we may be needing all the queens for the grand finale, we don't need all of their subjects.

How come Callen's affinity is Dark instead of Fire? Does being a Void replace one's original affinity?
How come he is conscious when Nem has been knocked out by our spellwork even through his mother's defences? Is there a difference between an affinity granted by Voidification, and being a natural born Dark Prince?

The Prince of Vahnaine
"Callen!" Nys interrupted the two men speaking. She couldn't let it go any further. Callen was succumbing and she wouldn't let that happen.

Callen turn his attention to her as she sprinted over to him. Once she was by his side, she spoke. "Control yourself. Don't let him goad you into losing control."

His crimson eyes stared at her unblinkingly for a few seconds before he nodded and smiled at her. "You're right. Thank you Nys."

Nys stayed close to Callen. Drellius hadn't moved yet, but she could sense that he was dangerous and at the moment she was still drained.

The cold gray eyes that watched her were piercing. His face remained passive, but she knew he was watching for an opening.

"Why would you experiment on them? What you've done to those people is unforgivable." Nys said, wishing she could attack him.

"People? Do you really see those monsters as people?" Drellius asked calmly.

In that moment Nys felt a rage boil over that she didn't understand.

"They are not monsters! You are the monster. You use those words to rationalize the horrifying experiments you have done on them. They are innocent in all of this. Casualties that even in death can not find peace. You and that woman have killed countless people for a god that has never asked you to do such things. How could you call my subjects monsters when you are the reason we are like this?" Nys felt the words spilling out of her mouth, but they were not her words. They belonged to that voice. The rage belonged to her too.

Callen was taken aback. His red eyes stared at her with confusion and something else. He hesitated to speak but finally did, "Your Majesty... is that really you?"

Nys felt her body look to Callen, then Drellius. Then she felt her head nod. She was being controlled by the voice.

'Who are you?' Nys asked the voice.

Remain silent. If you want to protect what is ours, then you will let me handle Drellius.

Nys wanted to say more, but Nem was still unconscious and she knew just by being near Drellius that he was dangerous. She needed to keep her family and friends safe foremost. Even if that meant being a puppet for a little while.

"You're back." Callen lit up in a way that Nys didn't think was possible. He was ecstatic.

Nys felt her head shake. "No, my knight. This is only temporary."

Callen's smile fell, but he didn't show any other emotion.

"So our efforts were in vain." Drellius said, his hand hovering near the hilt of his sword.

Nys felt her body moving, but went along with it. She had to keep telling herself that she was helping her friends so she wouldn't panic. Then she spoke. "Did you think the light would save you? If you hid it away in this false world, would it protect you from me? Would it fight by your side and swallow up the darkness you all feared? Would it forgive you for your sins against it?"

"You are nothing but the spawn of the Shadow King. You want to pretend as if you were innocent, but you are not. His crimes are yours. You even took our prince from—"

"She wasn't the one that did that to me!" Callen interrupted the knight. "She was the one that saved me. Why won't you listen to me?"

"Because you are not the prince. You are not my nephew. You wear his face and use his memories to hurt us. That is unforgivable." the knight pulled his sword out ready to attack.

"Even now, neither of you want to believe me." Callen spoke more to himself than to them. Nys wished she could speak, but it was like being held under by a strong wave. She couldn't find the surface even if she wanted to.

"You're a monster given life by that abomination. I dare not even entertain the idea that you could truly be the prince I trained and raised." Drellius spoke softly and Nys laughed suddenly.

"You all are so blind to the truth. Sine never listened to me even as I begged. She ruined my homeland. You killed my consort and orphaned my child. Why? You heartlessly drove my people into those wretched forms. Forcing them to live as dreadful monsters that can find no peace in this world and I am the monster. I am the terrible thing that must be sealed away." Nys continued to laugh humorlessly as Callen reached for her.

"Your majesty, please you can't continue like this. It will strain you too much." Callen said, then whispered to her, "It's not time."

Nys stopped laughing and straightened herself. Her posture much more elegant than it had ever been. "You are right. Our meeting should involve everyone. Everyone must be here for the end. Well, almost everyone."

Nys looked to Drellius and his eyes widened at seeing the soft blue fade to a deep, bloody red. "Everyone but you."

Callen moved quickly, blocking the imperceptible attack for the older man. Callen looked at his hands, almost shocked that he had saved the man. The off-colored Fifth Affliction that was parried was in the ground beside them.

Drellius stared at Callen at a lost for words. Callen looked back at Nys. "My Queen, forgive me. I moved without thought. I did not mean to do that. I am not betraying you."

Nys stared at Callen with no discernible expression before she reached out toward them. Nys tried to stop her body but could. She could only watch in horror, but her hand was grabbed before whatever the voice intended to happen. Nys felt her body look up.

"Forgive him." Nem said softly, "Callen is your knight, but they were his family. His heart will alway linger in that place, but he belongs to you now. It is a mistake Mother, do not be as harsh as they are. We are better than his family. That is why he pledged his allegiance to you."

Nys eyes softened as she stared at Nem. She agreed and lower her hand. "I wish I had more time to speak with you, but it is already over. Until we meet again, my little prince."

Nys felt herself gain control of her body, but it was in vain because she was unconscious after that.

Much appreciated, my Queen; it was almost worth becoming a pupp--

Callen, what do you think you are doing?

Dammit; we'll have to do all mid-boss encounters the hard way, will we? And here I thought we could cut some corners and get rid of one through a cutscene power-up.
Sine may live, but Drellius is going down for sure, no matter what any of them have to say.
Kind of an abrupt end to the arc. I thought Nys would end up fighting Callen, but I think this worked out well too.
Over what? Would it be when he'd lose control if we didn't interfere, or because he would cover for Drellius, or for some other reason? When precisely did you think that? I am curious how much of a story is open for being changed, and what are the prequisites.

[x] Liri
[x] Eurytia

Someone from the other elemental family would be nice to talk to. To gather the perspective of the opposite team, inasmuch as there are opposites after what happened.
Why is she with us and not them, what happened, what do the deities really want - we have a lot of questions.
I'd prefer Hyacinth, but she has her memories locked.

...also, Eurytia never mentioned Hyacinth was her sister. Why is she keeping it away?

[x] The Golden Queen's Truth

Sibling drama! What do you mean, she is not my real sister!?
