Pretty happy with these purchases from Black Friday sales, although I confess to expecting them to be cup sized, not what they are. The thing in the middle is my USB dongle, as they're standing on my desktop.

The Legend of Momiji (Wikipedia JP)

In the Heian era, a warrior by the name of Taira no Koremochi -- of the rival clan to Ushiwakamaru and Raikou -- had an encounter with a beautiful woman. Her true identity, however, was Momiji (紅葉, also pronounced "kouyo"), the Oni of Mount Togakushi. This was the subject of a Noh drama in the Meiji period, mostly recounting Momiji's defeat and capture. The Noh drama version of the character is referred to as Sarashina-Hime.

According to a version of the legend published in the Meiji period, she was an Oni possessed of the power of the Demon Lord of the Sixth Heaven, who came to be a concubine of Minamoto no Tsunemoto. Upon discovery of her nature, she was exiled, and ended up in Togakushi.

In more elaboration, she was a scion of the House of Tomouji; a descendant of Tomo no Yoshio, a disgraced courtier of an earlier era. Born as a daughter of a man named Ban no Sasamaru, by prayers devoted by him and his wife to the Demon Lord of the Sixth Heaven (第六天の魔王), she was named Kureha (呉葉) at birth. When she came of age, she was sought as a wife by the son of a wealthy house. However, as she and her family opposed the marriage, she used the powers of the Sixth Heaven vested within her to create a clone of herself. Her family took the dowry and escaped to the Capital, while the clone flew up into the heavens after the marriage.

In the capital, her beauty was noticed by Minamoto no Tsunemoto, who brought her into his harem under the new name of Momiji. However, after she cursed his wife to fall sick, she was suspected of being an ayakashi, and was chased from the Capital. Thereon, she ended up in Togakushi, where she brought the villagers to believe that she was innocent. In a village there, she gave birth to Tsunemoto's illegitimate son. Afterwards, she cross-dressed and began activities as a bandit lord, taking under her wing the famed bandits Onitake and Kumatake, and a girl of bizarre strength, referred to as Oni no Oman.

After the death of her father, who had tried to restrain her excesses, her banditry expanded in scale. Subsequently, the emperor issued orders for the army to suppress her. Taira no Koremochi was among the officers who joined this effort. However, in the end, a purely military effort failed.

At this point, Koremochi -- at the observation by his subordinates that Momiji's powers might be nothing so simple as mere illusions, but of an evil nature instead -- opted to pray to Kannon. In a dream, he was gifted with a short sword vested with purifying powers by an old man. When he woke, Momiji was cursed with a strange inability to use her Oni powers, and afflicted with illness. Drowning her symptoms in sake, she fell into a deep slumber.

Koremochi shot her, using the sword as an arrow, bringing an end to her reign of terror.

So, looking into the weird names/rank of the Mage Association with @fallacies, and it turns out that they make a lot more sense when you can see the actual kanji :V.

冠位 "Grand" -- Station of the Crown. (The same characters as are used for Grand Servants, on a side note.)
色位 "Brand" -- Station of Color. (I wonder if this is related to the colors that really badass magi are assigned, like Touko's Red and Aoko's Blue? -- Wait Touko's a fucking Grand)
典位 "Pride" -- Station of ... this one's hard to translate. 典 can mean "ceremony"; can also mean "code of law"; can also mean "canon" or "records". Given the MA's focus on the past and the English title, I'm with @fallacies in thinking that it's probably "Station of Recordkeeping" or the like.
祭位 "Fes" -- Station of Celebration. This is the first one that makes way more sense in Japanese -- 祭 means "festival", so Fes is short for "festival".
開位 "Codes/Cause" -- Station of Opening. Baby Noble rank. This is where Gudako ends up after FGO Part 1, I think? Sasuga MA.
長子"Count" -- lit. "oldest child".
末子 "Flame" -- lit. "youngest child".

--- Actually, the JP wiki says that "Fes" is a special title only given to people with "skills beyond that of a magus" -- Waver's teaching or Bazette's Enforcer skill, forex. That makes me wonder if "Pride" isn't "Station of Celebration" as well, to line up with "Fes".

Because it's kinda annoying:

It's an "indication."

That's interesting.

Given that Servants indicate fate in Requiem, I wonder how people who summon weird/monstrous Servants with bad endings are treated? Probably ostracised to some degree, hence why she's the friend of a weirdo who has no Servant of her own.

Man imagine someone summonig Saber Gilles

You are a good person destined to meet someone great and then go batshit evil insane once that great person dies unfairly

Imagine being the kid who summons Medb
...You are fated to go against tradition, convention, and your own family due to strong personal convictions, but ultimately, to succeed in standing up to your beliefs, breaking the mold society has been trying to put you in, and rising above your intended station in life, to gain power and prominence, and end up living your the rest of your life as you see fit? :eyebrow:

I don't know why anyone would be opposed to such a destiny.

Oh also, can we post fics that we're working on here? I'm working on an F/GO crossover using the idea I posted earlier and I want some thoughts from you guys?

In that case, where is the Type Moon fic idea thread? I've been looking for one everywhere but can't find it.
