[X] No, HSWB is a perfectly fine name.

I missed yesterday's update due to a case of busy day syndrome, but I'm pleasantly surprised by how well negotiations came out! Well done, you all!

As a side note, I had been imagining the Daughters of the People as an out-and-out rebel organization. Turns out they're just space Mormons. Oops.

I do, but spirals don't evoke the same roughness that angular shapes do:

I really like #9, honestly. The twisting loop evokes an orbital trajectory, and the circle (a sun?) being off center is a nice touch that distinguishes the design from the common bullseye-style aircraft roundels.

#7 is also a lot of fun. I figure the bars are meant to be stylized wings inverted, but it looks to me like a black hole passing over a plane in 3D space. Ominous!

When it comes to roundel design, both of the spirals as well as 4, 6, and 7 look good to me.

Should the HSWB's name change? Yes - Division

A Change of Tack
With a balance found in the tensions bordering Home, the Space Warfare Branch retreats into its own selfish focuses once more. At the top of the list, and becoming more pressing as time passes and a more general recruitment pool becomes available, is the choosing of a name that really defines the force properly. As such, the following options are bandied about:
- Retaining the Home Space Warfare Branch title, as has been in use for several decades now. It retains the historicity of the combat branch, details the responsibilities of the service and gives little over to nationalism or jingoism.

Unit patch of the 5th HSWB Research Unit
- The second most popular option would be a far more forwards - and outwards - looking choice: renaming the force the 'Home Interstellar Navy'. This would be as much a mission statement as a name, an intention and a goal. Introducing ourselves and the HIN would tell our future allies and enemies a lot about us.

Prospective HIN Unit Patch
- Third on the list is the Home Space Warfare Command, or alternately, the Home Space Warfare Service. Recognising the extraction of the space forces from the City Militia into a force of its own, these names are as much about pride in the service as they are about recognising the nature of the force.

Prospective HSWC Unit Patch
Which of the four choices does the force prefer?
[ ] Retain the HSWB name
[ ] Switch to the HIN
[ ] Switch to the HSWC
[ ] Switch to the HSWS

Insignia, Emblems and Ensign
With a new name comes new and more focused imagery to tie the fleet together. The following emblems have been submitted to the Fleet:

The flag of the [whatever we name ourselves] is a simple bicolor flag of two horizontal colors of White, for Home's frozen poles and seas, and of Green for Home's vibrant evergreen taigas. The colors are equally split in a 1:1 ratio of one horizontal bar of each.

At the center of the flag is a 7 pointed star, with the points curved inwards in a counter-clockwise fashion, the universial meteorological symbol for Home's superstorms. Emblazoned on the star is a verticle two-pronged trident.

Please select up to 3 of the 10 proposed designs to move forwards to the next round, in the following format:
[-] Draft 1, 2 and 3

[X] Switch to the HIN

Still my favorite.

[X] Draft 4, 6, and 7

For me it's all about the huge patch of black in the center, representing the void.
