I have to say that the minor spirit of strength looks amazingly useful. That is enough avatar discount to make it free and thus give us the chance to make monsters and demispirits AND pick up melee to let us defend ourself. It is also not something we would otherwise earn the way moon affinity is. This would firmly established us as something that can't just be driven off as we can fight and make a brood. I hope people will seriously consider it despite being a bit out of theme.
 
Bonus: Mythos of Gaerig - The Moon Sphere

In the early days, Gaerig swam all about the sea, raising the waves and calming the sea in equal measure, laughing at the foolish men that tried to touch upon the surface, braving the waves for sustenance and glory. During the long night, Gaerig asked the stars why she could not always see the moon's beauty. The stars replied, "O Gaerig, look into the deep places, where a piece of the moon's silver has fallen."

So Gaerig went.

For many days and nights, Gaerig traveled the deep places, searching for the piece of the moon among the places hidden from man's eye. At last, she came upon the sphere, and exclaimed, "This beauty is what I wished for, what I longed to see! But I do not wish to go so far to gaze upon the moon! I will take it myself, and place it upon my shoal!"

So Gaerig took.

But Gaerig had underestimated the Moon's weight, which could even crush the air and the sea to sink and rise as it loped across the night sky. Under it's weight, she struggled to bring it from the deep places, and grew disheartened.

But Gaerig continued.

The fishes and creatures of the sea decried her and whispered discouraging things in her ear as she went, jealous that Gaerig would take for herself the glorious moon. Gaerig ignored them, and went farther and farther still, before coming to her shoal, and climbing all the way to the surface, where she displayed the piece of the moon in the light of the moon.

And the People were awed.
 
Why do people want Astral Affinity - Moon? Given that Traits are soft-capped, and we Fear-buy traits each turn anyway, I don't see why we should be interested in picking up traits unless they are a phenomenal fit for us or an upgrade to something we already have. I fail to see how this qualifies.

@Powerofmind - I assume that this is a genuinely "free" upgrade, and isn't going to take up a shrine-improvement slot when those start happening, right?
 
...I need to be convinced to pick between ornamentation and Avatar (to finally get Monsters!!!)! I like making the Moon Sphere a part of our hoard, but I sorta think I want our horde more.

This is a genuinely free bonus element you can pick up in exchange for not getting to use the sphere itself (you can't take that back in the future), and not getting the other immediate bonuses that the other choices provide. It's the extra long-term special reward option on the list.

Long term, we get more Legend from Moonbeam. Plus we are more likely to fear buy Moon. Definitely a bonus at this point.

We have a lot of ways to get that Avatar point, tbf.

I think you should consider spirit of strength instead of flat avatar. Both options discount the next rank of avatar to 0, but strength gives us the ability to fight and defend ourself that just avatar does not provide.

The moonbeam looks cool, but I hope people keep in mind that it is a very long term option, and we are still in the shit in the short term. If we are caught outside of our shoal we might lose the social rolls with Saiga and be in big trouble. Or the crone might show up, or the people from Saiga's village might gather together and come to kill our humans in an attempt to make us stop. We don't need a long term solution we need something now

Except, we had a rough plan for right now, and none of it included the results of the moon quest.

Yes, anything can happen, but if we treat this as the most extreme emergency so we need to blow our one chance at the Moonbeam attribute.... I think that's a bit shortsighted

Meaning it's likely to unlock Moon Affinity on its own ,at least via putting it on the table a lot easier. Besides that, we get Legend every time we succeed an Astrology roll. So... I'd be better overall.

Ah but gaining Moon Affinity now gives us a Major legend roll and increases Gaerig's astro skills and wave powers just in time to boost our rather lackluster 8

I have a couple of problems with this.

First, we are going to be picking up traits that are "a bit out of theme" all the time, given that we have only fuzzy control over our Fear buys. I'd like to avoid making this worse by picking up out-of-theme traits intentionally. After all, this does make everything else more exensive, plus it gets us closer to our (soft) trait cap, plus it gives us a new locked skill that that we would need to work on to make this "physical fighting" thing actually work.

I'll go for the permanant shiny option (literally), though we area going to have to be really careful not to lose the shoal. That said, at this stage losing the shole is equivalent to losing the game, so I guess it isn't a major issue as-of-yet.
 
I'm pretty sure we haven't even come to a real consensus on what our theme even is.

I wouldn't mind spirit of strength.

Eldritch abominations are supposed to be powerful afterall.
 
I suppose that ultimately I think a trickle of legend when we have a major success on an action we don't always take is less useful than an immediate gain that helps fix actual problems that we are currently facing. Some day we will have a net gain of legend off this thing, but who cares when we are generating enough legend as is. SV is not the kind of site that stops doing new things and thus stops gaining legend. Adding an extra occasional minor legend roll to that is not as useful as current hard benefits.
 
If we don't vote to put it forever on our Shore what happens with it?
Does it dissapear with the other option or is it still part of our treasury just without the direct effect?
