especially as Taris was rendered almost obsolete due to new more efficient hyperlanes being discovered before the events of the original KotOR. the outpay doesn't make up for the risk and limited payoff involved
Ahh, it has a destroyed Jedi academy. Not sure if that's worth much. Presumably we could comb through the wreckage without colonization being necessary?
We could rebuild it from scratch, but we could build elsewhere too.
Taris would be a pretty clear moral symbol and demonstration of what the Jedi can do for the people of galaxy.
We also have a rare respite to actually get some civil projects in, so I think it's best to get the ball rolling on as many as possible now. We don't really imminently need a new big academy site like Coruscant or Tojoora.
Also on a more ethical note, providing relief to a devastated world is both the right thing to do and peak Jedi.

I'm not sure it qualifies as relief at this point. Not many people survived the bombardment, and I would imagine most of the few survivors evacuated the charred ruins as soon as possible. I think this is more like a recolonization from scratch sort of project.
I realize we don't strictly need the space of another installation anytime soon, but there are three other reasons to get moving on it.
1) In the Coruscant Temple there are relics and things left behind that would be useful to us, and they're potentially being looted over time so we don't want to leave it too long.
2) Individual installations give us training and possibly other bonuses. Right now all we have is a generalist no bonus installation on Dantooine and a small Guardian-specific facility on Taris. Having facilities for our other Jedi specializations will make our people stronger. And it would not surprise me if the Coruscant Temple had special bonuses of its own, like to our ability to engage with Republic politics.
3) If we put it off too long, it's possible we will lose the opportunity forever. The planet could be allocated to someone else for colonization, the Temple could be put to another use. I'd rather that didn't happen, so we need to get on with establishing our claims.

Perhaps, I'm mostly supporting it to ensure there is a stronger Republic presence and weaker Sith presence there by the time of SWTOR, that and the possibility of saving the Promised Ones.
Ah well, the die is cast, let's see what happens. The plan does at least save a fair chunk of points, so we can grab the Temple or the planet next time around, and the other one after that.
Oh yeah the promised landers, Carth and maybe Bastilla would know about them - and they'd be overlooked. Coruscant is also a good point tho, but atm I come down on treasures of the Jedi being less important than the possible lives of innocents. Definitely want to push for Coruscant next time, I think tho. Assuming, well, the sky doesn't fall on our head or something.

[X] Plan: Building up for the Sith
-[X] Send a Jedi with a Republic archeological expedition(15 PP)
-[X] Reestablish Jedi Scoutmaster (Head of recruitment) (50 PP)
-[X] Attend Czerka Asset Auction (20 PP)
-[X] Back The Vara-Wall Bill in the Senate (Proposes the formation of three new Special Activity Centers, IE fortresses+shipyards, along the Perlemian Way Trade Route) (+15 PP if passes, -15 if failed)
-[X] Back the Ashes of War Act (Pushes up colonization of Taris)(+30 if passes, -45 if fail)
-[X] Make friends with Senators (25 PP) (Gain more information on potential bills and acts)
-Send a Jedi with a Republic archeological expedition(15 PP)
- Jedi Knight Garna Val is dispatched to the Pyzkal system, formerly a fortress of the Legions of Lettow. There were a number of stolen Jedi artifacts, including ancient scrolls describing Pre-Jedi Force use among the Mon-Cala people.
--
-Reestablish Jedi Scoutmaster (Head of recruitment)
While the most obvious and outward facing duty of the Scoutmaster is recruitment, they are also, by your understanding, responsible for the finding and colonization of potential enclave worlds; at least, the two duties often overlap.
Therefore, the candidate you choose needs to be reasonably friendly with a number of Republic officials, a task you set to with aplomb.
--
-Attend Czerka Asset Auction
- You pay particular attention to the potentially useful for colonization and development assets which Czerka kept: shield generators, moisture vaporators, construction droids and so on.
By the end of the auction, you've grabbed enough infrastructure to leave Telos at about the same point Dantooine was at before the planned expansions there. There are also a few starcharts, and a single, pyramid, holocron.
Not an encouraging note.
(+16 Telos, +18 Dantooine, +9 Ossus)
--
-Back The Vara-Wall Bill in the Senate (Proposes the formation of three new Special Activity Centers, IE fortresses+shipyards, along the Perlemian Way Trade Route)
-Esseles, Jarcelles, and Roche are to be the new sites of these Special Activity Centers, after a surprisingly fierce and close debate and vote.
(+15 PP)
--
- Back the Ashes of War Act (Pushes up colonization of Taris)
Now, everyone in the Republic wants to reclaim Taris. It is a symbol of Republic might, and the ability and willingness to rebuild everything the Sith destroy.
The problem, and what has kept the various bills, acts, and so on from ever going anywhere, are the two distinct camps that want to recolonize Taris: one that wants to rebuild Tarisian society exactly as it was before Malak went to town on the planet with his orbital fury, and everybody else, who got the short end of the stick. The Ashes of War Act is, pointedly, aimed at aiding the aliens, refugees, and poor who want to rebuild a better society on the ashes of the old, because they represent exactly what is best in the Republic.
Namely, you promised your help as a scientist and engineer to the recolonization efforts if they were carried out in that matter: designing shields, recreating the Rakghoul vaccine from the few sparse samples Revan turned back into the Republic after defeating Malak, that sort of thing.
That, plus the promises of Jedi to help maintain order, clinch it, and the bill finally passes.
(+30 PP next turn)

Make friends with Senators
-The good in the galaxy needs to clump together.
You offer your protection to a number of senators from potential Czerka reprisals, or mad assassins, or...well, you get the idea.
This will let you gather much more information about legislation before it passes, and if there is one you think is wise, perhaps to throw your weight behind it?
(Gain more information on potential legislation)
-- Keypoints of the Senatorial Briefing of Jedi Councilor Mira
- Domo of Azil in the dominant language of the dominant cultural group, but extremely varied and prone to diversity
- Nearhuman species, mostly differentiated by extremely integrated technology compared to the galactic average, extreme variation in hair color, and size, as well as internal organ structure.
- Pre-Contact with Czerka invaders, embroiled in insurrectionist Civil War between outlying colonies and their technological aristocracy and the central government over issues with Bio-Integrated Droids, which used scans of ranking figures to create incredibly advanced but very doomed Droids
-In all, this was a double edged sword for the Czerka mercenaries and their forces: on the one hand, plenty of Domo infrastructure was destroyed in the war, leaving them weak; but on the other hand, they had a veteran, skilled force; more importantly, they had the Companions.
- The Companions are a fully-volunteer Special Forces infantry group, given incredible enhancements both technological and and biological as well as the most advanced training; for the Domo, they were the saviors of the war.

A bit more information on the new guys. I realize it's a bit sloppy of a presentation, but bluntly, I couldn't think of anything better.

Seems like the rolls went in our favor, that's good.
I'm not positive if pyramidal holocrons are always Sith, but yeah, that's suspicious. At least this way we can destroy it if it is Sith so it's not out there circulating causing who knows what mischief. I'm glad we went to the auction.
The Domo sound like a cyberpunk society. Cool. It's possible they even have a thing or two to teach the Republic about implants and prosthetics. The Republic might be a bit horrified by biodroid technology, though.
It'll be interesting to see what perks the Scoutmaster candidates come with.
I'm guessing scoutmaster is between Mira and Visas. Atton might've been on the list too, but uhhhh, yeah we'd have to pull him off Battlemaster so obviously not.
Both Mira and Visas are very qualified, but neither really have what we'd call political clout. Hmm...

It's just gonna be a side mission, my dude, unless we get the Master Chief expy to become a Jedi I doubt it's gonna show up that much. Unless someone decided to turn it into a real story.
In the new, slowly rebuilding Order, there are a few potential candidates for Jedi Scoutmaster that immediately come to mind:
[] Bastila Shan
She has maintained a personal interest in all matters archaeological, including but not limited to old, abandoned Jedi temples and outposts that might be suitable for recolonization.
(Small bonus towards chance of discovering colonizable worlds)
[] Visas Marr
A hunter of echoes; and of things that might become, echoes. She will guide explorers of the galaxy towards species of...weight.
(Small bonus towards making first contact)
[] Mira
Someone who finds people; she will be a great aid in recruiting new Initiates to the Order.
(Small bonus towards recruiting new initiates on missions.)
[] Write-In
One of the other councilors can fulfill this position.
(May vote for any member of the council to fulfill this office, as long as they are not already appointed to one. This eliminates Atton, Bao-Dur, and Mical)
