The leading vote for Resist includes Identity Lost as one of the consequences, which will make Dorian's character less interesting and diminish the appeal which got him selected as a MC in the first place. As it is, unless things change, then those who want to continue playing as a character that is similar to Dorian are better off voting for Sucumb and then pushing for the MC of the next quest to carry on some of the traits Dorian had.

Birdsie said in the Discord "unless you guys pick Magic Academy Quest, there won't be any more character picking." which seems to imply that will also not be an option.

Identity that he may piece together again. That is a classic, a better narrative than we could have hoped for.

I would do everything in my power from now to the end of the vote to pursue this.

And just to make sure, the issue is not that we failed. Rolls happen. The issue is that even now not a single Faceless Ness voter can explain me what we would get from it. You are can't do risk reward calculations if you don't know risks!

And again, no remorse, no ownership. Remember how we randomly wrote in something that pissed off March warden for no reason? I do.

If you let monkey just randomly pick options for us, we would do better. For myself, as I pride myself in skills, this is utterly embarrassing.

Embrace Identity loss and become Nameless instead.

It was the entire point behind the experiment, to bring Dorian to the brink like so.

The point of the experiment was to get Facelessness-related superpowers. Identity Loss kills Dorian, it doesn't 'bring him to the brink.' Even if he recovers the story of what happened through context clues, his memories and skills are gone.

This is like saying lobotomizing someone 'brings them to the brink.' No it doesn't, it just removes who they were. If you want a dramatic tale of overcoming the consequences of hubris, that requires the character who made the decision to survive the decision. Identity Loss explicitly does not do that; it simply tells the story of a new character who was spawned by that decision - a character who sucks, and has no skills, backstory or capabilities.

Sorry but the idea we could stop this and potentially play an ancient or a beckoned in the ormulum if this quest dies makes me want to die

Calm down, its just a quest. You aren't winning the Olympics here.

I'll give free vote markers to anyone who votes to just die and keeps it that way until the end of this vote? Sorry I'm going full asshole but I want a beckoned quest Isekai protag in the ormulum or an ancient.

It does sound like starting anew with a fresh quest would be better for both Birdsie and many of the questers:

1) Birdsie would be able to work on a fresh quest with much higher engagement
2) He's expressed interest in planning a Dominion or Beckoned Quest where we'd have much more initial agency and a single, coherent setting to engage with
3) The existing structure of this quest is burdensome on a QM - they have to write and compose backstories for new characters constantly, many of whom are swiftly made irrelevant by Dorian's planeswalking. Who still remembers or cares about the denizens of zombie world? Who will remember or care about Henry and Maria in twelve updates, if this quest survives?
4) Even if a player is invested in a character or world, the chance that we'll see them again is very low, and this causes players to drop out or not be interested in the first place
5) Burning the Import that invested players made in order to mitigate the consequences from numerous blank voters is essentially forcing the invested players to pay for the mistakes of the blank voters, which is very bad for convincing people to be invested in the future

In light of this, I'm going to change my vote, and encourage others to do so as well. As Birdsie has now confirmed that Import will carry over to the next quest, there's little reason to vote for Resist and many reasons to vote against it.

In the end, exploring the entire Ormulum is rather too diffuse a concept for a quest - rather a story, where Birdsie's writing pace isn't interrupted by the constant need to wait for votes. A single setting fits better.

Yeah I'd rather keep import and play an Isekai quest than go through more this system while being crippled by spending import.

[X] Succumb

Mm, the structure of this quest makes it additionally difficult to feel truly invested in Dorian himself, either character or capabilities. It's not as if Dorian himself cares overmuch either. Better to make a character with real roots, a real cast, and coherent long term ambitions that the questors can be excited to pursue and perhaps achieve in time. Give me a single truly sick blurb to chase over a buffet of less meaningful powerups any day.

Just let it die. Take our Import and move forward. Have Dorian do something not completely worthless for once in his life and let his and legacy of this quest carry on at least that much.

No, he's going to fight tooth and claw the entire way.

And even if he succumbs the next character has more Import to use for char gen. There isn't a loss here.

I mean the loss is the import to continue to play a system I don't really like and a character whose build just got sorta fucked up and will for 10 import break less than even and continue to barely travel various worlds.

Cue Musorov showing up again and trying to explain how this unmitigated disaster is actually somehow a successful science experiment

edit:
Y'know that would actually be really funny if dorian got used as a street-initiation ragdoll
Well assuming Musorov isn't also dead
