The Smallest of Dragons, The Loudest of Roars (An ASOIAF Valyrian Adventure Quest)

[X] Comfort Among Justness
-[X] The Conservatives: Your Father's foremost enemies in the Senate, not for any personal reasons, but out of pure dedication to the Constitution of the Freehold. They do not believe your father to have warranted an execution… merely an exile. They were horrified by the true nature of the executions and murders that had taken place, and wished to see the perpetrators punished, as that execution violated every single law in Valyrian history… But they fell on deaf ears. They are the second smallest faction right now… if only because many of them are disgusted by one of their own… betraying everything they held dear for power.

-[X] Confusion: You wanted to know why your father died. And your family had to die as well? What did the Senate fear from you… that made them do such drastic action?
-[X] Taking Account: Your father and family had a long list of coin, and assets meant only one thing. You needed to secure them before they were seized by opportunists and opportunistic enemies.
-[X] Bury Your Family: Your family's corpses deserved a proper burial. You are going to make sure that they will rest in peace.
-[X] A Regent in Control: Your father's senate seat has a regent… a man who was appointed by the Consul to rule until you were of age… You will not allow yourself to become a puppet to the man who murdered your father.
-[X] Senatorial Allies: A pair of Senators who worked with your father has come to you… to pay their respects… and to tell you a few things they knew about what really happened.

[X] Putting our Affairs in Order
-[] Mercantile: The Men of Coin, who are interested in other things… colonies in the west, the south, even towards the Narrow Sea, where the Pirate Valyreon's have taken up a shelter at Driftmark. They want Valyria not only to rule the world… But to control everything in it, by coin and power. They are the second most powerful faction… Thankfully, they do not want war… War is bad for business after all.

These are all things that I think we should do ASAP, lest the opportunities slip away. Picked confusion because it seems like the right attitude to move towards unraveling the circumstances that led to our family's ruin. Also picked the Mercantiles because our Legendary Stewardship would make us fit in and they are a powerful party that could protect us.

I would like to argue that I highly doubt any of these Option (except maybe Burying your Family and Taking Account) are gonna be removed or diminish in Reward after just one Turn.

Also, I'd argue that it's more important to get to work on removing or diminishing our Bad Traits and Stat-Penalties then to play Politics right away. Both will obviously take a while, but one will get much easier if we do the other first.

[X] Plan: To Entrench the Dragon's Claws

regarding the faction-debate: I would argue that the only reason we are still alive is that the Senate did not want to deal with the hassle of deciding which of the hunderds of equites-level family would be elevated to senatorial rank, or which of the 40 families would be allowed to split of a branch. As our family has alreade rocked the boat enough and no faction will likely be happy to be associated with our name I think it is better to stay on the sidelines. It means we will not have allies if we are attacked, but at least we will not be attacked out of fear or political goals. Of course it might heigthen the chance someone will attack us to seize our assets, but we have legendary stewardship and only a fool tries to steal the treasure of a dragon.

I am wary of those Senators getting cold feet, and taking account is definitely time sensitive. Definitely want to nip any shenanigans the Regent could try in the bud as soon as possible too.

Forgot the X's for your vote to count.

I'm not really against the Mercantile Faction, they'd be my second choice honestly. I just think we'd gain more from Conservatives for reasons I've already stated. Also if we help build them back up into a higher position with our Stewardship we may well become too integral to risk losing. I Would be open to switching over depending on how things shake out though.

If our primary stat was diplo/intrigue I'd totally agree with you the Conservatives would be the first choice. But we are a 17 yo without much rhetorical ability, so our ability to help them pull themselves up is kinda limited imo. The Mercantiles though would have no reason to throw us under the bus, since they aren't that involved in non economic politics, and our main stat would be a lot more help to them than to the Conservatives. Thanks, fixed it!

Fair enough, but I still think that at least for Turn One, it makes both narratively and mechanically more Sense to do personal Stuff. After that though, we can get back to the political/administrative Stuff.

Burying our parents can qualify in that, and I'd argue that not talking to our friend right now can make sense narratively. My best friends father just died two days ago of cancer, she is putting her affairs in order and is very busy, so she is putting off talking to me and her other friends because of it, even though we're offering our support. So it is not completely unreasonable.

[X] Plan: Mourning and Comfort

-[X]Mourning: Your father was dead… Your Family was dead… how could you feel anything else, but great sadness.
-[X]Alone: You did not align yourself with anyone. Let them play politics and alliances. One man was not worth the vote. Abstaining was a legitimate form of representation. No one would control your voice in the destiny of the Freehold… It did not deserve it.
-[X]Taking Account: Your father and family had a long list of coin, and assets meant only one thing. You needed to secure them before they were seized by opportunists and opportunistic enemies.
-[X]Bury Your Family: Your family's corpses deserved a proper burial. You are going to make sure that they will rest in peace.
-[X]Ride your Dragon: You want to fly away for awhile… Spend time with the only thing that cares about you.
-[X]My Best Friend: Rhaerya came riding in on her horse… she wanted to see you… to make sure you were okay. After all, that's what friends were for.

Eh, in the end, everyone handles Grief differently... I guess an Argument could be made that both ways make Sense.

Also, my Condolences to your best Friend for the death of her Father.

Yeah, she is a very diligent person. So I was not that surprised at it.
Also, my Condolences to your best Friends Father.
Thanks, he's been sick for a while so it was not a complete surprise, still hit her hard ofc. She's a resilient person though, so she'll persevere at least.

[X]Plan: What is Life Without Those of Your Blood

An Imperial Valyrian Empire sounds like something grand, not keen in joining the Freehold they killed our family.

'Friends, Valyrians, countrymen, lend me your ears';

An Excerpt from the Play 'Eleanor' by famous Playwright Vycarion Teanebrus

Taemon Tarreos:

Friends, Valyrians, countrymen, lend me your ears;
Today we have come to bury Eleanor and his Family, not to praise them.
The evil that men do lives after them.
The good is oft interred with their bones.

So let it be with the Eleanors. The noble Gaeliar
Hath told us Eleanor was a Traitor.
If it were so, it was a grievous fault,
And grievously hath Eleanor and his Family answer'd it.

Here, under leave of Gaeliar and the rest of the Senate–
For Gaeliar is an honourable man.
So are they all, all honourable men–
Come I to speak in Eleanors funeral.

He was my friend, faithful and just to me.
But Gaeliar says he was a Traitor.
And Gaeliar is an honourable man.

He hath brought many captives home to the Freehold
Whose ransoms did the general coffers fill.
Did this in Eleanor seem treacherous?
When that the poor have cried, Eleanor hath wept.
Treachery should be made of viler stuff.
Yet Gaeliar says he was a Traitor;
And Gaeliar is an honourable man.

You all did see that on the Senate Floor,
He again and again spoke out for our brave Soldiers to be paid their due
As was their right and our Duty: Was this treachery?
Yet Gaeliar says he was a Traitor;
And, sure, he is an honourable man.

I speak not to disprove what Gaeliar spoke,
But here I am to speak what I do know.
You all did love him once, not without cause.
What cause withholds you then, to mourn for him and his Family?
All of whom lie dead now, save for young Raegon.

O judgment! Thou art fled to brutish beasts,
And men have lost their reason. Bear with me;
My heart is in the coffin there with the Eleanors,
And I must pause till it come back to me.

A.N.: I just REALLY wanted to put Mark Anthony's Speech in valyrianised Form into this. I love this Speech SO much! Also, I hope this still counts as an Omake...

I cannot give it a canon status. for it has not happened yet.

So take a +10.
